Way back when Akershus resturant first opened, before Princesses, we used to be told we had to eat 7 plates to "Be a Viking".

This was probably in the mid-to late-90s, and it wasn't just one server, because we went several times and always got told the same thing. At first, we stuffed ourselves "trying to become a Viking" until we figured out that no one specified how much had to be on each plate, so we started going up and getting just one or two things each time. Does anyone else remember this? I thought back to it the first time I saw Viking's screen name-"Oh, he must have eaten in Norway!"

Dot, I vaguely remember that, most likely from our 1995 or 1997 trips. I know we ate there at least once during those trips. Back then, 7 plates of food was just the appy for me. While I don't recall exactly what the goal was (Viking status) I remember asking if achieving "it" earned me a free shot of aquavit.

I sure wish they'd go back to having at least one meal a day without Princesses.
Akerhus is the only sit down restaurant in Epcot I've never eaten at, and I'd love to try it.
I certainly understand the Disney's marketing and profit reasons behind the constant character presence, and I've got nothing against the Princesses.
But I just have no interest in eating with them.

I bet if you just tell them, they will be more than glad to skip your table.. but it does make for a much younger dining audience, usually made up of poor souls that thought they could get CRT when they called a couple of mos in advance.
