Check-In times. What's been your experience?

We've had success the couple times I've attempted an early check in at WDW.
Although it wasn't that early, generally around 2-3PM following a resort switch.

Out West, I've attempted early check in 3 times at the Grand Californian Villas, always before noon.
One time I was given our studio right away, the two other times we had to wait 1-2 hours for it, but still got in very early.
I love the fact that they give you the keys and then text you with the villa # when it's ready, no stopping back at the front desk.

This past spring break vacation was the first time we had much of a wait at all. The rooms were both ready around 4 pm and we received texts when they were ready. I can understand it as it was a busy time with Spring Break. Most of the time we have been able to get right into our rooms or very shortly after checkin.
