I think your idea should be fine as I have read a lot about these situations although you will spend a lot of points you will have the new contract, but I would like to know if I am wrong.

Question about Cancelling and Rebooking a Reservation –
06-22-2012,09:08 AM
So I just want to run this by the brain trust here to make sure I'm thinking about this right :-)
Earlier this month I made a reservation for May 2013, where I used 2013 and 2014 points (I have an April UY). I now want to make a reservation for January 2013. I was hoping to use some resale points for the Jan 2013 ressie, but the resort/room type I want is filling up, so I feel like I can't wait for mid-July when the new points will show up in my DVC account. So I'm thinking about doing the following:
-Cancelling our existing reservation for next May, so all of the points are available again. I know my borrowed 2014 points will stay in 2013.
-Rebooking it (the room/resort I wanted is still available) and borrowing an additional number of points from our 2014 UY so that 2013 points are now available for my January ressie.
-Booking my Jan ressie.
Is this going to work? Is there some catch in cancelling and rebooking that I'm missing here? I know this will pretty much strip my 2014 UY, but my new contract is coming with 2012 points (Oct UY), that should be available through Oct 2014 if they are banked into the 2013 UY (correct?) so we should be okay.
Thanks!!Beth--I love weather so much, they call me the cloudnut :-D

I believe if you borrowed your 2014 points into 2013, they are available for use starting with April 2013 through March 2014. Therefore you could not use those borrowed 2014 points for a reservation in January 2013 since that month is in your 2012 UY.
So you could only make a January 2013 reservation using your 2012 points (if you have any left) or any borrowed 2013 points.--Denise
