We pack light-ish when traveling down for a week or so since we plan on washing clothes even though our drive down is about 7hr or so. (We've only flown once to WDW when we lived in Charlotte for a quick weekend trip and that was before the dreaded bag fees so everything was in one large suitcase instead of everyone having their own small carry on bag.) However when traveling down for a weekend we don't plan on washing anything so we just pack everything back up in laundry bags and put those bags in our suitcases. Bags that were formerly used for prepackaged snacks work great.

Laundry use in the dvc –
06-13-2012,02:22 PM
Well since the baggage fees do not apply to me because we drive down to Disney we still pack light and we do make use of the in room washer and dryer in our villa at BLT , we think that it is the greatest to have that at your finger tips .
Thanks everyone

Laundry detergent –

For my next trip to WDW, I plan to bring along laundry soap. Does anyone know if the DVC washers require HE (high efficiency) laundry detergent?

Yup, we use the laundry. A lot. 2 toddlers, light packing parents = lots of laundry. we have an OL, so we keep Pods and some dryer sheets in there. Last trip, both kids ended up sick (the 2 yo DD says that "Disney World make feel better", so I guess being trapped in an AKV savanna view studio totally sick is still better than being sick anywhere else on earth to her), and we were running laundry constantly. Had we not had that free laundry available, DH or I would have had to take a cab to a laundromat and we would have had to pay for T&T several times. <3 laundry!
Note, we are very light packers, I can't think of a single trip in >8 yrs that didn't have a stop at a laundromat or a friend's (or the bathroom sink loads!) of laundry done. That includes business trips, if I can't fit everything into my rolly bag + my laptop bag for a week, I'm doing something wrong.

I am a very new person to the DVC (less than 2 months) and am glad that there is this facility as I ran out of clean stuff the last visit and had to shop. I do have a slight trepidation as I have never used a US washer or dryer being from the UK
How different are they? I use a powder that includes the conditioner here what is the free stuff that comes in the room like? Any suggestions of what to get from the supermarket? Thank you in advance.

Welcome Sally! It is a Tide powder I believe that mousekeeping provides. One DVCr we met last time on our way to the airport said she just hunts down random mousekeepers during the day to get more soap for free. The Tide powder is good, but you still need a dryer sheet type thing.
