Ever been to Aulani? My family is headed that way in December, and we want to make the most of our time. Any recommendations on what NOT to do? I've heard that the food choices are somewhat limited, and that it's probably wise to rent a car.

Any help or ideas how I can make our stay more exciting would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Tony

I have not stayed there, but I did drive by it while it was under construction. You will want a car. Aulani is located in an area that isn't very close to any of the major points of interest. Oahu has Safeway stores for groceries and also many ABC stores which are like convenience stores, but some have a good selection of food and they carry a lot of items, clothes, towels, etc. The prices are very low for Hawaii. They all carry different stuff.

If you decide to visit Waikiki, be wary of the free and discounted tour stands. They will offer you free or discounted tickets for any attractions on the island that you are interested in, but will make you sit through a high pressure vacation club sales presentation.

Aulani itself looks like a great place to stay put. However, if you plan on going to other parts of the island, let me know what types of things you want to see and I will share more of my own experiences. There really is a lot to see on that island.

Thanks... this is helpful. I am a part time fine art photographer, and I would really like to take some nature pictures, including waterfall pictures.

That's my favorite area on the island. Waimea also has a beach area on the ocean. There are large rocks that people jump off of. http://www.google.com/search?q=waime...w=1252&bih=710

I have never been to the area that Jurassic Park and Lost were filmed at. That looks like a very nice nature area, too.

When your December trip is done, can you please comment on here about the weather?

We are going in 2013 during the winter and I would like to get some idea about that. Some people say it rains a lot, but others say it's still one of the best times to go.
