Thanks Tim! At a really brief glance, it looks like ALL 3 CA hotels have gone up a LOT since 2009...![]()

I was just looking at the Disney website for cash reservations for the hotel rooms, I was looking at the beginning of May.
All rooms standard view
California Grand $316 per night
or 43 points
Disney Hotel $260 per night
or 37 points
Paradise Pier $188 per night
or 29 points
This is seriously gouging DVC Members.
You could rent out your points at $9 a point and pay cash for the room and have extra cash for dvc merchandise.
To rent out @ $9 a point to pay for a cash stay, you would receive $261 for 1 night at the Paradise Pier, $333 for Disneyland Hotel and $387 for one night at the Grand.

Mar 2010 Paradise Pier DL
Nov-Dec 2010 VGC
May 2011 VGC
Oct 2011 VGC
May 2012 VGC (Son in-laws and daughters points)
Nov 2012 VGC
Feb 2013 VGC
Apr 2013 VGC

Ok, this should be solid proof that we need more DVC rooms at Disneyland, ASAP!

That sort of value is consistent with other non-DVC trade options. I hate to sound like a DVC sycophant but that's pretty much what I expected. Pull up some cash prices for a DCL cruise someday and compare to the points. The exchange value there will be in the $7-8 range. The economics involved with using points for DVC resorts is much different than non-DVC.
That said, some dates at DL resorts are priced better than others. One date I pulled at random showed a $480 rack rate at Grand Californian vs. 50 DVC points. Add in the taxes and you're getting better than $10 per point value.
Don't think there was ever any doubt. But those potential sales will always exist. Disney spent $800 million on Aulani. Even if they severely misjudged demand for Hawaii, they aren't going to quickly throw in the towel and move on to other things. They'll give Aulani a few years to attract the west coast market before there's another DL DVC. (IMO)

I agree that the point cost is very high, but the cash price for a standard room goes for about $600./night. It is just crazy how much hotels cost. In my case, I tend to use my room to shower and sleep. I don't know how anyone justifies $600./night.

That's an interesting perspective!
