The point charts have been released for the booking of non-Disney Vacation Club hotel rooms at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. *Members can begin booking these rooms for stays on or after April 1, 2012. *

That is great news. That should help a lot until they get the water park and new hotel built (even though no dvc until 5yrs or so).

We have some family that have been trying to get into the the Grand California using RCI for the last 2 years, it is not a Villa but it will work

Well we got what we wished for, I think. Is it just me are those points per night real expensive? I tried to check the price of a cash room for September 17 with a check to of 09/21 and I couldn't find any option online for room type. It would always give me standard view. The cost for a standard view room was $1420.00 plus tax for those four nights. I also tried to get a quote for 4 week nights June but I think my figures are suspect and now I can't get the system to work for a June date. I keep wondering what a room with a view would cost or even the club level.

For those who plan to go to DLR regularly this could be an expensive solution, but better than putting the cash out for a GC room.

We are very happy with our SSR original purchase. After all, DisneyWorld is the mother ship. But, WOW! these Disney Collection points allocations are unreal. That is why we did an add-on for points at VGC and this makes me glad we did. We wish we could have bought more, but was pushing it to get the 125 pts that we got.

Since then we have bought into Aulani as well. Both work for a west coast dweller (for this I think Utah is west coast). But my, oh my, point usage is much more favorable to go to Hawaii if you can't get into VGC and have to pay points for the regular hotel rooms at the Grand Cal.

I realize that building a DVC at the Disneyland Hotel, as was once rumored, may cut into the Aulani sales, but DVC would make a lot of sales to people that would buy at DLR, if available, that would never ever consider Aulani.

I know I am rambling, but I think DVD is missing the boat on this thing. There needs to be another DVC at DLR faster than 5 years. It took over two years from announcement to opening for VGC. That means that if they don't make a decision to build another DLR-DVC for 5 years, we are still 7-8 years out to when it opens. With the culmination of the major upgrade to California Adventure and other parts of the DLR, I wonder if there is a lack of confidence in how well the additions and upgrades will be received. If they were confident, they would build DVC rather than sending all of the excess accommodations to the "good neighbors" hotels. Give us another DVC at DLR sooner, not later. VGC is probably my most favorite resort, but 48 2-bedroom equivalents is woefully short of demand. Even with another DVC, it still won't be as nice as being in the heart of DLR at VGC.

I can understand where DVC would hold off another California destination until Aulani is close to selling out.

The financial mistakes made on Aulani will probably take a long time to recover from. On my kid's Aulani contract, they can only raise the fees by a small percentage each year under Hawaii law to get to the fees to where they are supposed to be. I know the new Aulani contracts are where they are supposed to be, but that is still quite a shortage. If the sales of Aulani slow down because of a new more desirable California destination, (I might be biased but I would think a California DVC is more desirable than Hawaii
), I think it could put a huge drag on Aulani, maybe to the point where they would possibly have to sell.

The option they have released is a small but expensive band-aid to hold over until Aulani is close to selling out. I think this will help the RCI people who have been dying to get into the Grand. Now they can but not a villa which is ok with me

I might also be biased in the fact that I am VGC with VGC add on and always plan trips at the 11 month window.

Maybe I'm missing something, but how will Gand Cal Hotel being put back into the Disney Collection "help RCI people"? I thought external exchanges were only for DVC properties...

On another note, has anyone compared this chart to the old pre-VGC one? I don't have it handy but I'm curious about how close it is and if any increases for GCH have been proportionate to the DLH & PP...

Our son-inlaw's parents are RCI and they can book at the Disney Hotel or Paradise Pier under the exchange, and after they saw our villa during our first stay, they have been trying to get in ever since. To the point where they are trying to have him book at the 7 month window for them and they will give them an RCI stay (not a fair trade at all in my opinion lol)

Found a points chart from pre VGC at http://tagrel.com/util/dvcChart.php
