A DVC member's Home resort provides him / her with a four month booking advantage over owners of other resorts. *For some locations / seasons / villa sizes, having that advantage can mean all the difference in the world. *Other members seem to have little trouble booking their preferred accommodation seven months from arrival.

Topic: *In your own experiences, how important is the selection of a Home resort?

It Doesn't Really Matter For Us...

I have heard all the arguments about how you should buy into the resort you plan to stay at. And, while I agree to a certain extent, it hasn't really had much of an affect on us. We are owners at BWV, and while we love it there we have only stayed there a couple of times. My kids like to try out all the other resorts, so we've tried out just about all of them! Also, I rarely make reservations before the 7-month mark anyway. So, for us, it's pretty much moot. But, if you're a person that is very particular about which resort you will stay at every vacation and if you love the grand villas then your home resort is VERY important.

All I know is that we LOVE DVC!!! We wouldn't have been able to go on the many Disney vacations we've been blessed with. The memories (not to mention our wedding at BWV gazebo) has made DVC VERY, VERY special to us. We've made a lot of sacrifices to keep this ownership and I am so thankful that we can call DVC our Home Away From Home....whichever resort that may be!

Now that online ressies are available, I have been checking out availability somewhat often at the 7 month mark on resorts I do not own at. If you want to stay in certain villas in certain times of the year, your home resort(s) is very important.

2 Bedroom Boardwalk View villas appear to be very difficult to get at 7 months. (And why do they only have lockoffs in the 2 bedrooms? Curious what the mindset was when constructing them) Of course 7 months out is October right now so my tests may not be consistent as the seasons change. VWL, BCV & BLT are not guaranteed either it seems at 7 months.\

HHI is VERY difficult to get into over the summer at 7 months and VB is a little hard as well.

AKV, OKW & SSR (besides the Treehouses at SSR or Concierge at AKV) seem to be the easiest to get into at 7 months.

We almost always book our home resort at the 11 month mark. And sometimes we try to switch to another resort. I like the security of knowing we'll have a room if we book our home resort at the 11 month mark. Since we often travel during less busy months, I don't think booking at the 11 month mark is necessary. But the Home Resort Advantage is a great perk if you are booking a reservation in December and around major holidays.

I had some technical issues today merging two identical threads. If anyone notices their post is gone please re-post and accept my apologies.

I never thought the rule would affect me, until it did. For my last trip in January I didn't plan it far enough ahead. We booked everything in August which was our mistake. I couldn't get us in to the resort we wanted to be at (BWV) nor my home resort (BLT) due to us wanting a 2 bedroom and it being marathon weekend. We ended up at AKL which was actually amazing. I would have preferred to stay at BWV, BCV or BLT for the trip due to transportation reasons. So now I have started to plan a bit better and we book our home resort at the 11 month window so we have a guaranteed room, and then at the 7 month try to change it.

We bought points at BLT and AKV because they are our favorite resorts. Although we like to try out other DVC resorts, we like knowing that we can get an accommodation at BLT or AKV when we want. For our next trip, we'll be staying at AKV in a Concierge Club studio. We booked it at the 11-month mark when our home resort window opened. I'm certain that accommodation would not have been available if we had to wait until the 7-month non-home resort opened.
