A little help from my OKW loving friends –
07-17-2008,03:12 PM
I have friends using my points for a July trip... 4 nights in an OKW studio.
A couple with a young son. They want to be near the main swimming pool and I'd like them to have a quiet room with a nice view.
So, are there any buildings I could request for them that would be walking distance to the pool (I think son is 3) AND have maybe a water or golf course view?

None of the Hospitality House rooms will have easy access to the main pool. Here's a map of OKW:

Personally, I think building 62 is awfully close. It is right across the street from the boardwalk. I would go with that building personally because the view would also be water. If they can't get that, building 16 is right next to it and would also be a short walk. We were in 19 near Miller's Road quiet pool and the walk to the HH wasn't bad, but 62 and 16 are right there.

If you keep walking down the boardwalk, you cross the street and there is building 62.Last edited by jen; 07-17-2008 at 08:06 PM.

Should I ask for building 62...high floor and might there be a view? quiet? or is it near the bus route or the main road?

The problem with asking for a specific building is if you don't get that specific building. I've asked for Building 55 a number of times but haven't gotten it yet.
Building 62 is near a main road, but it's not on a bus turnaround. But I've never heard any outside noises at Old Key West.~~~~~~

This thread has totally derailed already! We're all talking but no one is answering anyone's questions!

So, I'll take a stab at this pretending people answered....
1. If you have booked the "Near HH" category, they are all technically "nearest" the main pool in OKW's view. The reason building 62/63/64 aren't included is they are the elevator buildings and (supposedly) reserved for getting less mobile guests to upper floors.
2. If you have booked just the general category, I'd ask for a room from "among 15/16/62/63/64 on Miller's Rd."
3. Studios at OKW are generally tucked a bit back and sometimes fairly thick with foliage. A higher floor doesn't necessarily negate this, though last visit the Southpoint area studios' foliage were definitely getting "haircuts." Hopefully they are making inroads in all sections of OKW by now.
4. A higher floor is a mixed bag. If your friend doesn't want to walk to the main pool, will the family want to walk up and down 2 or 3 flights of stairs? Personally, we love walking and don't mind having the kids go up and down the stairs, but our family is weird.
Good luck!

I was just going to add that I've never gotten a great view in a studio because of the foliage. Which the foliage in itself serves a purpose since they are at the end of the buildings where there is more road noise. Maybe the haircuts nono reported will help with the view and still have protection from the noise.
I like nono's suggestion of buildings. However--I've almost gotten to the point where it doesn't matter what we request at OKW, they have always tried to put us someplace opposite of where we requested.

Ahhh....the OKW CMs are playing passive aggressive these days!
Thanks for the responses...I've requested top floor for their Boardwalk stay (over bigriver grill) or center of wave of the crest building but I had no idea what to ask for re OKW.
I'm thinking if my sister and I go for a few days late Sept, that we'll be staying at OKW too. But I'd rather be 'far from it all' and quiet than on a bus turnaround street.
