I know the member I referred gets an incentive back but is there any current incentives I should have gotten myself for having a referral when joining? I know they have done that in the past but all I can find is now only the members name you use gets an incentive. Just curious! .
With the current regular incentives I did get -$12/point being I bought 220 and the 4-5 day park hopper passes so I can't complain really. Oh and a $40 gift card when I participated in a phone tour. The primary reason... Honestly, I never really heard about disney vacation club until just a few days ago and here I am considering making the plunge. The primary reason being to switch family dynamics - instead of arguing over a budget, whether to even go anywhere, and a million destinations, we would have fixed points budget that forces us to vacation while saving $ in the long term and providing a framework for quickly making decisions and arrangements. The three places we know we want to visit in the next few years are: hawaii, alaska cruise, and disney world florida so the DVC at least makes sense there. I'd also love the disney adventures to italy or elsewhere, but these seem beyond our budget at the moment.

In any case, after some calculating I determined that 320 pts/yr would be the minimum to make DVC worthwhile to us, with 340-370 pts being a sweet spot, and 400pts/yr being the gold jackpot. The best pricing for buying from disney directly is also conveniently at 320pts+. We like having the option to use our points for cruises and other vacation spots. Our preferred direct disney home spot would be the hawaii hotel.

So, I see 3 possible options here:

a) Buy 320pts direct for the hawaii hotel from disney now, and later add 50-80 pts likely through resale (ideally also the hawaii hotel). This would give us points to use for cruises and the best direct discount while also getting cheaper points for direct resort usage. The drawback would be that it is two transactions, it might be complicated to manage, and there might be some limitations on how we can combine the points or even what the rates locked in are.

b) Just buy 340-370 points direct from disney for the hawaii hotel and call it a day. This basically gives us what we want for a modestly higher up front cost, but it does feel somewhat extravagent.

c) Even though our preferred home hotel is the hawaii one and the one we'd like the 11 month reservation advantage for, it does have modestly higher maintenance costs and maintenance is the big expense long term -- perhaps I should try to buy direct from disney but via a waitlist for one of the cheaper/older resorts? I'm not sure how long this would take or how possible it would be for the number of points I'm looking for....

Also, a few use year questions:
1) If the contract is for Sept 1, we have to bank unused points by what month?? Is it 8 mos into your use year they need to be banked by??
2) If the contract is for Sept 1, and it says "35" as amount of points available for 13 in the listing, does that mean they've already borrowed for 2013 and that's all that's available starting this coming September??? (I will call on this today, but am curious now!)

I'm getting excited (even though I know the process may take a while)!!!:D
