As one of the "early Aulani purchasers" I am very relieved to hear this...it was the right thing to do!
Slight modification to story after contacting Rena Langley. KITV said buyers "will not see a dues increase over the life of the 50-year contract." Not true. A subsidy will be calculated based upon the 2011 disparity (original vs. revised) and that subsidy amount will be carried-forward until the end of the term.
I had assumed they would structure it that way but glad to get confirmation. Langley said many are reporting that aspect incorrectly.

I was sure that fixed dues for life would be too good to be true. That clarification makes the fix sound a lot like Vero.
Something I'm wondering- will it be written up so that if subsidized owner sells the resale purchaser gets it or will the sub be original direct purchaser only?
For that matter, with the resale changes what is Vero's status on transfering subsidies?

At Vero Beach, the subsidy stays with the deed even if it sold on the resale market. I don't think there are many subsidized VB deeds that hit the resale market.

While this was a disaster for Lewis and the other higher-ups who lost their job due to this mistake.
How awesome is it for those of you who bought Aulani early???
Wish I had.

It will be interesting to see how they track the two levels of dues when it comes to paying the Transient Tax. I assume early Aulani owners will pay a lower tax based on their lower dues rate.

Wow, I hadn't thought about the TO Tax implications for a dues change. My guess is that the tax would be off the FULL price, not the subsidized one though. The sub is from the developer and has nothing to do with the state, but I could be wrong...
