We were originally going to take ME to SSR & then rent a car to get around to parks, restaurants, etc.. But recently was wondering if we should just get a limo from the airport and just do the bus transportation around WDW. DH & I are traveling with my sister & her family...husband & 2 kids 4 & 2, and DH's parents...in the 60s.

What would you recommend? We normally rent a car...but it can be pricey for such a large group.

Thanks!

I guess I'm a little confused, but probably just because I do things differently. I mean, in my view, if you're going to rent a car anyhow, why not just do so at the airport and skip the hassle of DME? On the other hand, if you don't plan to rent a car but can take DME then why consider a limo, seeing how DME is free and handles your luggage to your room to boot? I guess there are airport surcharges for car rentals, so that could be one factor, but doesn't sound like it's an issue.

As far as "to car or not to car", that's a difficult question too. Generally, I feel it's worthwhile to have your own vehicle, especially with groups. Often you can get to the parks much more quickly with a car and have a lot more freedom to hop around, plus it's really nice to go off-site for shopping or some meals which can save quite some cash with a large group. Then again, perhaps there's a chance you won't share the same schedules? Someone might prefer MK, other's Epcot, some may want to stay at the pools? In that case a lot of you might be taking Disney transport anyhow even if there is car available.

Rental cars seem pretty inexpensive in the Orlando area, but, as with the cars themselves, your mileage may vary!

Sorry I should've explained better... We are arriving late the night before...thinking of taking ME to hotel & renting a mini van from the National Car Rental on property the next morning (much cheaper than at MCO. That being said...the mini van is still like $500. A limo will be like $200 roundtrip & will make a grocery stop. Just wondering if we should really pay to have a car at our disposal or just use bus service. Also with using ME we would have to wait to get our luggage since it doesn't travel with you on the bus.

How late is your flight? After 10pm you have to take your luggage with you on DME.

Yeah, $500/week after your include taxes sounds about right for a minivan :(. Maybe $450 with the right coupon and some luck. As you say, might not be worthwhile.
