Has anyone asked MS if you can cancel the 1st day off of your reservation without cancelling and rebooking the whole reservation? I think this is a crucial point that needs to be cleared up. If they allow front end cancellations- the policy stinks, if not I think the new policy is great.
I was told that members WOULD be able to do that. (Cancel individual days without canceling the entire reservation.)
One of the reps I spoke with drew a comparison to the old day-by-day bookings, which itself was an abuse of the system. The program guidelines have always stated that we could book our trips 11 months from the check-out day. However DVC pretty much condoned an abuse of that rule by allowing people to book day-by-day rather than waiting until the actual departure date.
It seems like DVC could design some sort of rule pretty easily to keep this from happening. Perhaps they could only allow one modification to a reservation without having to cancel altogether. Would that work? Any other ideas?

I know abuse will take place and I know it's possible to implement penalties to discourage abuse.
Unfortunately there will be times when a member in good faith booked 7 days out & than had a legitiment reason for canceling the first two days. Penalizing them would be unfair, yet trying to regulate in safeguards for such situations would be nearly impossible.
Not to be insulting, but there are members who are confused by banking, borrowing and use year rules. Can you imagine the confusion caused by a "First day cancelation" policy ?

I am sure there will be a time when I get torqued from not getting the exact time I want, but I just can't imagine how so many people get so wrapped up.
Do many of you really have a hard time now getting the rooms you want at the time you want? (I am quite serious and not being a smarty pants. I have never had an issue with this. Maybe because I am a happy SSR owner and not trying to move to a different resort?)

As long as I book at the 11 month window I have no problems getting what I want at BWV. But if I wait too long I can't always get accomodations there. So, I just make sure to book in advance! :)

I go offseason, but I have always been able ot switch to a BW area resort at 7 months. (Not that I don;t love SSR, just makes some marathon weekend events a little weasier for us to get to). This year I switched to WLV at 7 months, not problem.
I think we're back to the issue of no buying where you don't want ot stay and needing to plan ahead. JMO
