I just joined DVCnews.com forums this am to ask a question about the DVC waitlists, when TJKraz recommended I post a new thread to celebrate joining the DVC. Yesterday I finally took the plunge and bought 100 points at AKV. As I'm single (though I plan to vacation with friends and family) and still in school, I felt I could reasonably afford this much. I have been planning a trip to the GF for Sept for almost a year, and have talked my cousins into going with me (obviously, not much talking needed there), when it became possible for me to buy now when DVC started the 100 point minimum first purchase.
Since I am spending ALL that money on the trip anyway, I thought I might as well buy into the DVC now. Though I know it is not point-efficient for me to stay there, I have planned on the GF for so long, I'm not ready to give it up. Because it cost so many points, and I only have 100/year, we will be splitting our stay between the GF and the VWL. Well, right now it is 3 nights at the GF, one night at OKW, and one night at VWL, being waitlisted for the other night at the VWL. I don't think I'd mind too much having to stay at three resorts--it would just move me one step closer to having stayed at each resort. Anyway, another reason I only bought 100 points is because I had such a hard time deciding on a single home resort, I figure I will end up buying into several different resorts.
Now I'm just waiting to get my member ID to be able to make ressies at the GF. I had requested a use year of Oct 07 (so I could vacation on un-borrowed points sooner), and got it, but when I went to make GF ressies this am, I found out I couldn't because I'm within the 120-day window :(. My guide said she could rewrite my contract to have a use-year of April 08. So I have to wait 6 more months to vacation on un-borrowed points. Oh well, I have 50 years!
And TJKraz, I saw you are counting down to your first Disneyland trip! I lived in SoCal for four years and had an annual pass. You will have so much fun! I think some people who are big fans of WDW are disappointed in DLR because it's smaller and right in the middle of Anaheim. To me, I'm in awe because I think, "Walt was here! Walt actually rode the Matterhorn." (My obsession is pitiful, huh). And thanks for putting together this website. The official Disney DVC website stinks in regards to getting actual, factual information. This website really helped me be informed to make the best decision (my guide kept saying to me, "You know so much! When you ask questions, I have to go find out the answers.").
Sorry this post has been so long. I'm just too excited to be concise!
