To be fair, my list is short as there are things like the coconut water that I'll just get upon arrival in FL. And I just carry it in a water bottle as I dillute it down anyways by about 10-15%. And I have a pair of running shoes in my Owners Locker already.

OK 4 gals, and you know who you are, if I don't have your email address, or if you have a preferred email address you want the artwork sent, PM me.

The actual artwork is 10 mb, but compresses down to 1.5 mb (using standard windows zip compression), so you each should be able to receive it. You'll uncompress it on your side, as at teh running banana site you do a direct upload.

BTW, don't be distracted when ordering on running banana -- they ask you about the front of the shirt first -- where your number is going. So, I'm just putting my screen name there, and the artwork on the back with Team Peacock. :) (I don't think we all have to do the same thing btw, just saying again what I'm doing).

I hope I can figure out how to order the shirt. I can't figure out Gangster battle on facebook to save my life. ;)

Well my 10K, well went today. Let's just say it's a good thing I don't take things too seriously in my life. Or at least I can laugh at myself, which I often give myself plenty of material. This is a funny race, think I'll write a small RR.

Temp: Hot as hades, 200% humidity, actual temp mid 70s in the am, heat index must have been close to a thousand degrees. I think it felt so hot because I haven't run in hot humid weather in a few months.

Location: Out in the middle of nowhere. Deserted country roads will the occasional cow to cheer you on.

Participants: Very small group, word is this used to be a premiere race, but has fallen over the years since they had to move from a waterfront course. I think it was the 29th year, it was a Cancer Memorial for St. Jude's, and there were only maybe 100 people--if that.

Outfit: Skirtgoddess running skirt that did NOT breathe. New (yes I broke the rule) Zoot teal racing shirt with mesh slits in the sides for airflow. I should have just worn my running bra. :blech: I didn't see one man with his shirt on, and most of the girls were shedding shirts. I just have a pooch that prevents me from going hybrid. New running shoes, well I have worn them twice.

Course: Out in back, up and down side roads with orange cones. Described as "flat as pancake" but it's a LIE.

Most Memorable Moment: I couldn't find the FINISH!!!!! I was too busy making smart arse comments before the race at the race instructions. (Farmer Ted explaining in accented voice the most confusing route you could imagine) With a 1/2 mile to go, I left my RP. And yes we have a solemn vow that we will never hold each other up and we are to leave each other, and this was the first time I left her--she was having heat issues, otherwise she is usually way faster than me. Anyhoo I got in the zone for the sprint, doing imagery, breathing everything else that I do in Track work now to dig down. Felt good, but then I was like "where in the crap is the finish". Looked down at Garmin that said 6.1 and I saw runners still running ahead so I followed them. (actually they were continuing their run after race...) Then I heard the Higher Power, "Robyn, What are you dooooooooooooooooooooooing????????" at the top of his lungs.

I turned and a sharp left turn down a gravel path was a small sign and a orange flag with "finish" with time clock. I did see people standing all around there, but figured, well hell I don't know what I was thinking. I had ran by it! So I had to cut through a irrigation ditch, through knee high grass through the crowd and weave to the finish. My coach asked "what were you thinking?" :confused24: and I said "clearly I wasn't" and he busted out laughing. I guess at that moment he realized I was not one of his racing team members just a gal that is paying him. He said something like "never a dull moment" and probably is laying on his couch and wondering what the hell he signed up for trying to train me. Anyway, it is a funny story that I have laughed about all day. Humilate self in front of racing community? Check!

Oh almost forgot, time was around 1:04:00. I was happy with it, especially considering the heat. :)

I need to go back a few pages...but the shirts are up and ready to be ordered? I want to get one before the March race!

I am not doing the 1/2 on the 10th. I am just not ready. I have gained weight this year instead of losing more (which I desperately need to). While I am back to better, more healthy ways, I would rather cheer people than fall over dead from trying something I am not fully prepared for.

However, I am on track with my schedule for the Porncess! So - not giving up that WDW medal (or tiara as the case might be)

My pre-race list. Very basic but I go over it like 20 times before leaving home. The outfit (entire thing - count pieces...etc), hair pulling up equipment (which isn't so easy now that my hair is shorter! takes more than just a rubberband), shoes (always take two pairs when traveling...paranoia I suppose), body glide, beans and cash. Carrie had told me about the after massage and that is a nice thing to be prepared if you want it.

For pre-race day....eat dinner semi-early....lay out clothes...check them all 37000 times to make sure all is there and number is in correct place, etc....stare at ceiling...ask myself why am I doing this?....toss and turn until regular time to sleep anyway...get up one last time to double check alarms and wake up calls....finally fall asleep and then

BLAMMO!!!! Out of the bed like a shot when the first alarm/call comes in. Scared Chuck last year at the 1/2. Make myself eat breakfast. (oatmeal works for me since it is hours until real race time). Try not to go insane waiting until the race starts. Use the rest room 27,000 times knowing full well that I will be tempted again when the race first starts because you are thinking to yourself...do I have to go? no....ok - do I have to go now?...hmmm nope....maybe in a minute...now? and my bladder is going "hello - have we ever failed to tell you when it is time to go???" ok ok - sorry...nerves

And finally...it starts and is fun.

I am hoping to do 3-4 other small races here in GA this year to get more used to this and to MAKE me do what my fat butt needs to do to keep going. I am someone who gives in and I am soooo incredibly stuborne, but not when it comes to make time for myself. There is a big note behind my door at work that only I can see that says "Have you worked out today?". I am willing to try anything at this point to keep going.

So...there you have it - basically...I am a nutcase!

You know Laura, doing the local races is what helps me keep on track. I find that I have no motivation if I don't have "something" circled on the calendar. I have never stayed on course with working out before, but running local races seems to keep me steady--maybe it's because I know something is always around the corner.

I know you are going to do great in March. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and before you know it, it will be March and you will have that tiara around your neck. :thumbsup2: You have had so much on your plate, I am proud of you for everything you have accomplished this far. :)

OK, I have sent everyone but LLL the artwork. I think I can get LLL the artwork too, as Mr Nono has decided it would be fun for us to make our own running singlets, so I'm going to have to buy more fotolia credits anyway!

Two rest days for me. I am a slug. I am drying out and trying to come off the sugar high. The booze is easier so far (well, ask me again at 7 pm). :rotfl2:

I hope this is the course. It'll be one heck of a good challenge. I agree with Stevie Ray Lopez (he's got a blog) who's done many of the Goofy Challenges -- the Jan 1/2 course could be anywhere except for mile 5, 6? through MK and the last mi where you barely loop through Future World of Epcot.

This could be a WHOLE LOT OF FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I gotta see how they are going to put that many people in there to start the race.

I didn't get out today for my run so I'll do it tomorrow. I did get out on Sunday for my LR. It was only 3 miles and I dressed for cold and it wasn't to bad out and I was so hot and soaked by the time I got home. This coming weekend is a 6 miler.:blech:

Nono, I'll order my shirt tomorrow when I feel a little more human. :silly: Thanks for putting this all together.

I thought for fun maybe we'd share our goals again for 2009. I want to Team Peacock to hold me accountable so here I go:
Run 800 Miles
Sub 29:00 5K
PR 10K
2:45 1/2 Marathon
Sign up for Full Marathon

Three goals:

1. Run 1000 mi.
2. Race an 18 miler.
3. Find a Feb. 2010 1/2 marathon (thinking maybe Hilton Head).

Your goals look awesome Rozzie!

Rozzie! I loved your race report - can't believe I did not post yet  You are doing so great and your goals are fantastic! Same for your goals, nono! I need to see what I did last year and come up with goals for this year. I am currently waiting to see how I feel after the full to decide if I am going to slip in another Mercedes Half on Feb 8 and then head to the Half at Disney!

I am so excited that we might get a change of pace on the Princess Half; I need to go look at the site!! Thanks for the info, Gail.

I may have to get my shirt ordered when I get back. What style shirt is everyone planning to order? I was thinking of listing Lisa on the front but maybe I will just go with "Withspirit" That is my name at Sparkpeople and I sure don't want to put withdisneyspirt - isn't that much too long???? thanks again, nono for getting our artwork done! :D

OOooh, that would be great Lisa!

Backstory to this request:

I decided as we are under 60 days till we arrive at OKW, it was time to plan (HA HA). So, figuring that in Oct. when we're there we'll be on day passes to F & W only (letting APs lapse), I'd better ask The Mister if there's anyplace in park that he must do this upcoming trip.

Surprisingly, he said Prime Time. Well, actually, he said, "That place in the Studios...where they have home cooking and the tvs...the one with the neat bar attached." :rotfl2: I said, "OK. Buuuuuutttt, we had a good time there before 'cause we were with our DVC gang. It might be different when it is just the 4 of us, and we have such little ones. Might not get the same action."

He agreed, then brightened up immediately and asked, "Would your running friends come with us?" So, there you are!

I'm thinking of a post race gorging the night of at Kimonos. Mr Nono said, "We'll be broke." I said, "Maybe not if we remember the 20% DVC discount this time."

What color are we doing for the lettering? I saw that you have to give them info when I was looking to order last night but didn't know what we were doing.

nono...when I got my e-mail my computer wouldn't let me open the file until I saved it and went in and unlocked it. So now the properties for the pic are in my documents. What info do they need for the pic?

Have you ever gotten shirts from them before. Do the sizes run true or small?

Oh, and Lisa I'm just putting Gail on mine. Mickeyndvcfan is a bit large also!!

nono
01-06-2009, 09:35 AM
I saw on the FAQ there that if you are at the top end of a size you might want to size up. This is my first experience with them.

I asked for lettering in the blue/green family. Figured they'd do something decent.

When I ordered my shirt, I just browsed to the file (you should now have an unzipped 10mb file of the peacock in mydocs if that's where it went). It then uploaded the full thing (takes awhile) directly into their system from the order form. Kinda like when you browse to a picture in photobucket...does that make sense?

mickeyndvcfan
01-06-2009, 09:56 AM
It is a bmp file, it opens w/Ulead instant viewer and the sz - 10.5 mb.

What kind of lettering did you ask for?

Lisa,

Here's the Prime Time Cafe's lunch menu, courtesy of allearsnet.com:
http://allears.net/menu/menu_ptc.htm

Mr. Nono likes going there for the option of Chicken Pot Pie, Meatloaf, and Pot Roast (none of which I've ever made). I like the option of having the Roasted Pepper, Stacked Sandwich or perhaps even the Fried Chicken. It's been about 5 years since I've had Fried Chicken -- maybe 1 day post-race will be the time to indulge! :eating: & :biggulp:

5 years since fried chicken? My last fried bird was 45 min ago. Those dern $1 McChickens from MickeyD's kill me. Okay, they are real small, and I hold the mayo. And I limit myself to 2 per month...

Take a really good look at the course people. How many miles do you run through the parks? For $120???!!

It's outrageous. I smell a rat too -- interesting that at 60 days out (too close for most to change their plans) they finally post it? It's the same old course -- so they've had the map. EMMI and Disney suck on this one big time.

Well I was just getting psyched about the race, and I have to tell you, I couldn't feel more deflated than I feel right now. Never again. I was even going to sign up for the ToT race as I was planning to be there then. No way. Not ever. I was going to sign the kids up for the kids races. I don't think so. Oh hey Rozzie, what are your paces like these days?? Just being nosy about what results you are seeing from the training.

I'm very envious of your having a coach.

It's bad enough that they changed the course, but they are making me have to do the nasty hill under the water to go by the Contemporary. :scared07: :blech: And where are all the characters going to be? They only have one food spot too. :eating: Well I hope all the whiney Princesses that wanted to go through the castle are happy now.

Amen to everything you said. Oh, seriously, does anyone (hint hint Rozzie) have access to surgical masks? I really really want one for that part of the course Gail...it's when I got really irritated last time. They had cars stuck in a traffic jam and idling! Gee, I run to get unhealthy!

We could get respirator masks at Home Depot but they are so uncomfy...I figure we could leave a surgical mask just down around our neck until we need it...

Well I don't know if the ear loop thing would work, but at least they have some version at the local Rite Aid.

I think it was cast members trying to go to work? So, get this...you get to run on the sidewalk on one side only....can you say bottleneck? So you can't just take a gulp of air and run like hell...nope you get to do a slow death march through the smog... :headbrickwall:

But forewarned is forearmed right? Want a mask? :D

mickeyndvcfan
01-08-2009, 07:05 PM
Yea, a mask for me cause if it is there again it will have me sick for the rest of the race. I can't even stand being behind a semi when I'm in the car.

Rozzie
01-08-2009, 07:52 PM
I got major access to masks. I'll start lifting them now to make it less obvious. ;) I figure I could sell some in the corral and pay for some of my overcharged race fee.

Gail, you hit the nail on the head. Whiny Princesses. I had to control myself on the Disneyrunning website thread. People think the castle is all there is to WDW. Oh folks, there are 3 other parks???????

Nono, the training is going great. It is very hard, a lot harder than what I thought I was signing up for. But I do feel stronger, it is amazing. For instance, we are running now 6 days a week. He really believes in recovery runs instead of days off. He says it keeps you loose. We do Track on Mondays, then during the week hill repeats, Kenyan Repeats, "T" zone workouts where for 2 min you hit a target pace then recover then repeat a few times, then of course some easy runs, and then the LR. At the end of this month I will have a 12 mile LR. He is pushing us to 15 for the 1/2. Yikes! When I got this months schedule I about flipped, but then I decided to suck it up and Just do it! I wanted to be stronger, and I do trust him. Heck he is like a g*d---16 Marathons, 10 of those BQ's. His racing team is ranked #1 in our area, and his top runner is predicted to break a Marathon course record for the First Light Marathon this weekend in town. Oh yeah, I am doing our relay for that with some other people from the GI Lab--Team Butts and Gutts.

Oh yeah, you asked me about my pace. Errrr, hard to say now, I have a 5K Jan 17 that should predict my progress. Another thing, he wants you to run at least 1 5K a month to track progress. Already though I feel stronger at the end of runs and feel comfortable at 10:30. (from 11:30) My race pace (5k) from Track looks like it might hopefully be closer to 9:45--but I hate to even say that without having a 5K time to back it up. So yeah, it's working, will take some time to get where I eventually want to be. But I am enjoying the ride! :) It really is the hardest I have ever worked at something in my entire life.

nono
01-08-2009, 08:07 PM
Very exciting stuff Rozzie!!!! I am running a simulated 5K this weekend since I blew my tempo run today. I went out in the afternoon to maximize my success, and let's just say I'll be running my weekly tempo runs now without the dog. I did turn it into a fartlek, so all wasn't lost.

Your coach sounds like he knows what he's doing. And, really, if you've run 15, how intimidating is 13.1? I have to rethink the end of my training schedule where I do 3 9s in a week 2 weeks prior...I guess I could call it week 1 of taper...which I don't really believe in for a shorter race like a 1/2. Yeah, for sure, I lighten up the week before, but if I'm healthy and running well, I think tapering for a two hour run is overkill. (but what do I know :rotfl2: )

Well here's what we can do. TRAIN LIKE HELL and get what we can out of this race. And practice your moves to elbow out of the way these Princesses who stop in front of the Castle in the middle of the race course to take a shot of themselves. DUH -- that's why there's race photographers... And, can you say weird vanity? Yeah, a sweaty "Princess" look in front of the Castle is a must do for me. Not.

I'm still :boohoohoo: over no Richard Petty. How cool was that going to be??? That was the sole reason I got into this with yous guys (well besides it was yous guys!!!)

Rozzie, do you want me to start looking for alternatives around FL to the ToT race? I'm pretty sure we can find something! Is anyone else from Team Peacock going to be in FL the weekend of 10/24?

I say we are allowed to moan for today only on the thread, and then we have to move on. Anyone with me on that?

BTW, the guy who emailed me back from the website telling me there was no change when I asked for a refund after Carrie's info -- I CAN'T FIND HIS EMAIL!

My big concern is that I don't want to get injured for my Ocean Drive 10 miler which is 2 weeks after. Mr Nono said to just run on the crown outside the cones on the mi 8+ area like he did last time. He said they would say, "Mind the course" or something like that. We laughed that I might tell them to "Mind my bleepin' ITB concerns, you bleepin' bleep." And then we decided I might be the first racer actually physically removed from the course by force... :rotfl2:

http://www.athleta.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=3874&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=9&iSubCat=161&iProductID=3874

Yes, I got it at the sale price! I gotta tell you, I ran with a singlet under it, but that thing is soooo soft and wonderful inside all down the sleeves, and it is a ski piece, so it wicks well, just like running gear.

This is a good time of year to load up on "non-standard" winter running gear -- via ski sales! Even you folks in the southern regions might find something like the pullover useful as it is lightweight.

I didn't go out yesterday because of the wind so I did Curves. Just got back from my 40 min. mostly walking and it was cold but bearable. I have been doing good with getting my pace lower. In 40 mins. I walked 2.77 miles @ a 14:29 pace. Hope the snow will be cleared out enough on Sunday so I can get my 6 miler done. We are suppose to get about 2" of snow here tomorrow.

So Roz...your're not going to the party?

Well I just broke the news to D that she'll be 5 when we're next at WDW which means she will no longer have a stroller. Why? 'Cause I'm planning on driving to the start of the race...room for 4 or 5 (hint hint). I have to dig out my Jimmy CDs so we can chill/nap (it's a 2004 Volvo and doesn't have an MP3 jack :scared07: ). Anyway, that means if I take the car, Mr Nono has 2 kids to haul around. And two single strollers is a no go.

I plan on bringing 15,000 baby wipes so I can clean up a bit after the race and not have to leave right away. I really wish they'd provide rinse off showers (heck, running clothes dry pretty fast)...but I guess that's just the shore girl in me talking. Anyway, I'm up for grabbing beers in Epcot or ESPN (!) and work our way back to OKW for real showers...

BTW, I'm still so disappointed with the race, but Mr Nono said, "Do the race, but this is it." I agree.

I found a Naples 1/2 marathon in January that costs $30 early entry and $60 late entry. If we ever decide we want to race together but still be using mostly DVC points, we could go there for two nights (girls weekend!) and race a great race, and return to WDW... Heck we could pay for the room with the race entry fee differential. And, I'm still eyeing the Hilton Head 1/2 for 2010 that's in Feb. We have a lot of years ahead of us ladies, and I hope we get many pictures with those Peacock shirts!

Ohhhh...the HHI 1/2 in Feb 2010 sounds great. I loved HHI and would love to go back. Of course we were there in June so I don't know what it's like in Feb. Is the race far from the DVC there? I can't believe that I'm talking about another 1/2 in 2010 and I haven't even done one yet!!:silly:

I haven't been to HHI as a DVC er, only stayed at Harbourtown years ago when I still golfed.

Okay I promise I am ordering my shirt this weekend. Nono has phone patrol to walk me through it.

Nono, if you can find a groovy race nearby in place of the TOT--that would be great. I'll have to work long and hard on Scott though, he really wanted to do the TOT after seeing me line up for it. I bet he could be talked out of it if we found a fun replacement. Longer than a 5K is all I ask for. :)

I agree nono, I was driving to work thinking of all the things in life that are misery--this is not one of them. I should be thankful that I can even run a 1/2. (or at least train for a 1/2 LOL, haven't finished it yet) I like to throw temper tantrums, as ya'll are all aware. ;)

Gail, maybe this could work better. Do Kimono's that night with the nono's (love how I invite ourselves) and then we daddle on down to check out the party. We paid money for it, and maybe there will be short lines for TSM. :p Love the idea of beers after the race too. Oh, and what you said about me keeping up with nono and Carrie and Lisa. LOL! They are light years beyond me.

So this race in Feb....is there a full attached to it Nono? My RP and I have already commited to a Full for 2010. She might could be talked out of Disney, maybe it might work.

I think she would go for almost anything. We've talked a lot about our race bucket list, and several are on there. We really want to travel the country doing all types of different things. A review off the top of my head---NYC, Chicago, Disney, Atlanta (ING), Hawaii, San Francisco, San Anton, New Orleans...I am sure we could find a cool one to add to this list. Got any cool one's up there? ;) If we were to wait till' Fall, we might squeeze in a cool Half or two to keep up the mileage. I think that is the key with distance running, always having something "circled" on the calendar.

Nono, I am too excited to sit still to thinking about the possiblity of you running a Full with us. :woohoodance: Gail? The time is now to dream big! We got one life to live, let's make it count. :thumbsup2:

Yeahhhhhhhhhhh I did it and I'm still alive. :yahoo: It was my 6 miler and I can't believe that last year I was working so hard to get my pace under 16 min. and now I'm working to keep it under 15 min. Well, I actually did 6 miles and kept my pace under 15 min mile. I walked the whole 6 too cause I went over to a different place and was playing dodge the poop. Well, at least I know not to go back there again. I was trying to find somewhere to go besides the neighborhood streets so I didn't have to worry about to many hills. I'm thinking about maybe going over to the track at the high school. We'll see. Ok I have to go and take a shower now.

I actually had to flipflop this weekend's runs. Today I did a recovery 3, since tomorrow is my Marathon relay. I got "nominated" to do the anchor, a 10K to the finish. I am slated for 8, so somehow I need to figure a way to get a warmup 2 and be at my post when my team member comes by. Oh, and it's supposed to be freezing tomorrow. So now I got to recoordinate outfits and figure out a throw away sweat shirt.

Well off to go figure out how to order this shirt! :)

The relay was fun, lots of laughs as it was like a episode of the Amazing Race to get from checkpoint to checkpoint. Organized we were not. I am sooooo signing up for a Full in 2010. It was so motivating to run in with the Full participants. Oh but one thing I do know, I will never do my city's Marathon. It had insane hills from Mile 12-17.

And then I went back to the McMillan pace calculator:

and put in this weekend's simulated 5K results...and it nailed to within 4 seconds what my A.C. 1/2 marathon time was....and then I looked over to the marathon predicted time....AND I CAN BOSTON QUALIFY if I can ever figure out how to run 26.2 miles!

NO, not a race, but do train on as many different surfaces as I can. I thought it would be different and fun to put on the list! And, since Rozzie's keeping the list...

The one thing that really attracts me to this is that while it is still a lot of miles, it might be a lot less harsh in terms of beating up the bod (like hard surface does). And, it just sounds neat.

What do you think about it Gail?

Well I caved. Just registered for the Full at WDW next Jan. Scott really had his heart set on running his first Half for this 38th bday. (the race is his bday weekend). So twisted my arm he did. Plus my RP had her hopes on Disney, she never gets to go and it may be the last time she ever goes. So I figure I'll do my first full there, and then I'm totally going to branch out and have a blast doing different races in different places. :)

Yes, there's a half and a full for the one in Tampa. It just looks like a cool, out-of-the-ordinary race that we could all enjoy. Maybe Nov 2010?

As it stands now, I am likely to delay Hilton Head for a year...'cause I'm probably going for my first marathon in Virginia Beach in March 2010. We just had a long discussion about it over dinner, and it's a neat weekend sponsored by Yuengling :biggulp:, there's kids races and an 8K on the Saturday (so Mr Nono and kids could run) and then the marathon the next day (so I could run). They also have pace groups, which would be helpful for my first trying to BQ marathon. And, I've been there before to race.

Congrats nono on making the plunge! :D They had flyers for your race at my packet pickup. (for 09) The race looks really really cool. I forgot to mention to you they had this running family in the paper the other day, blah blah blah, all 5 kids and parents are runners, but the parents said they said their kids running early, a mile at 3, and by 7 they are competing and winning their age groups in 5K's. All I could think to myself was "Oh little nonoette could totally take them!" ;)

So this BQ thing, what is the time you need to qualify? :listen:

Oh pencil me in for Nov 2010, most likely the Full. :thumbsup2:

Hi, everyone I have seen the runners before in disney. I have always wanted to know how doe it work to do the run? like I don't run for a living but when I run with others I can run for long distances! but I have always wanted to know how it works to run in the disney races, and how long they are? is there any cost to run in them? any benefits for running in them? like do you get one of the specially themed pins for being in the race? can anyone give me some details on how it works. I am sorry if someone asked the same thing but earlier but there are A LOT of pages to go through. lol!

Hi DIZ--

Disney's races that are held are some of the most expensive races out there. So, if you see a racer out there struggling, feel doubly bad for them, 'cause they paid a whole lot for the "experience." :blech:

Disney classifies their racing under "endurance events." Here's a link:
http://disneyworldsports.disney.go.com/dwws/en_US/amateurSports/sportDetail/detail?name=EnduranceDetailPage

That describes the races. They do have minimum pace requirements, so if you are entering, it is best to have a regular training schedule, so that you are allowed to finish the event. And, yes, they usually have special merchadise available for you to purchase, like pins, that are specific to the event. :)

I live in miami and we have some runner's groups which I used to go to when I used to live close to miami beach and we would all run up and down the beach I would say about 2 miles or more. The folks who run the WDW endurance series are quite decent. :yahoo:They are offering refunds to anyone who doesn't want to run the changed course.

I asked them one question which I hope they'll answer, and I'll make my final decision. I didn't write asking for a refund, I was just chiding them that the new course really was an old course. If I decide not to run, I'd just ask them to transfer my entry to the ToT race (see Rozzie, I might have a way to run that one yet!).

Anyway, I'm hoping they give me the answer I want and will run...cross your fingers for me!!!

My other problem these days is shoes. My everyday winter trainers are a set of 3: Nike Air Track stars, New Balance 825s and New Balance 790 (trail shoes for beach running). I also have my summer New Balance 825s in my Owner's Locker. And I have a brand new set of Nike Air Track stars waiting for warm weather.

My winter shoe size for running is 8.5. My summer is 9. I don't use trail shoes in the summer, just my feet. So, I'm covered. So where's the problem?

Um, my winter New Balance 825s have 488 miles and are finally about shot. I looked up my Owner's Locker NB 825s and they have 471 mi. on them. So, they are about shot too! And, Florida in March means I should use my summer sized shoes. But my new Air Track Stars have 2 mi on them, and are not comfortable in this weather to break in further.

So, what's a woman to do when she lives in the middle of nowhere? Order 3 new pair of brand new styles off of Road Runner Sports, that's what! Let's hope 1 pair fits and is OK for me to break in while I'm finishing up training. Oh, and what's nice is for $9.69, I can send any back that don't work for me. :yahoo: Wish me luck that one of those 3 is a winner...

Geepers nono, I didn't realize your knee was still giving you some trouble. It is the knee still right? Wow, I am impressed with your shoe collection. ;) I only have 2 active. Mizuno's and Nike Zoom. Really not liking the Mizuno's so they are for rainy weather, the Nike Zoom's are working well. They have more cushioning which appears to be what I need. The achies in my achillees I was getting all but cleared up when I switched. I think that is one of the most amazing thing about running, how important shoes are.

I am keeping my fingers crossed and sending the best PD I can that you are are 100% and we see you in the corral. (or wave to you from my corral LOL)

So I got another 5K tomorrow, and the temp will be 22. Think I still will do some capri tights (below knee capri's), and my courage shirt, gloves and ear band. I heat up so much when I am running. I admire the heck out of all ya'll northern runners--I can't imagine dealing with these conditions on a regular basis. :silly:

Hey everyone, I went to a running store and they fit you into a shoe that should be the shoe for you. now this happened a while back but they sold me these Asics GT2130 shoes they are pretty good but they are getting really used since I run and I also Jump A LOT of ROPE!!! can anyone suggest me any shoes? I do tend to use my shoes more on the back right of the shoes I have been trying to train myself into running heal to toe but I end up landing on the middle of my foot(I forgot what thats called) and rolling on that. any advice or suggestion?

Hey Diz,

I'm sorry I forgot to answer your other question about the shirts. I don't want to post as each person has ordered individually...and don't want to ruin the thrill for each person as they get theirs! But we'll get picks of us in them at the race and post. OK?

Anyway, NO I can't give shoe advice. However, I can give foot strike advice, which is try NOT to run heel to toe, but more whole foot...it distributes the "shock" across all those little bones in the foot and saves the rest of your bod!

Anyway, the reason I can't give shoe advice is that all the majors are great and then they all suck. Like New Balance. They suck right now...made a totally great shoe, replaced it, then discontinued the replacement. BUT, they're likely bringing out a new/improved version in the fall of this year. Then, they'll no longer suck. :D So right now, I'm trying out an Adidias model and two more Nikes...

Good luck finding what works for you. Can I ask: are you male or female? And, also general age range? That helps in providing "guidance." For the record, I'm a young "masters" runner (which means I'm over 40, under 45!) and female. :)

Diz,

At 20 you can probably run in anything and do fine! :D But, you'd be building bad habits. (I mean that in a coaching way, not a Mom way...my kids are 4 and 2, so even though technically I could have a son your age, I don't and can't think that way!).

What is cool about specific shoes to running is they take away a lot of the detriment of running so that you can do more, even while refining your skill. Kinda like crash helmets for motorcross :driver: or skiing http://www.world-of-smilies.com/wos_sport/smilie_ski1a.gif.

You really sound like you are ready to become a runner!

Okay, I wrote it. Hope its not way too long for y'all
Mickey Marathon Race Report:
Our day began with the alarm going off at 2am Sunday morning. Unlike every other longer race I have done, I actually slept pretty soundly! I quickly dressed in my full race regalia, lol.:w00t: Rick warmed a cup of day old coffee for me and I had a banana and cereal with milk. Off we went to the hospitality house! The bus driver was quite surprised to see us at 2:55am but we were #2 and 3 on the first bus!
Unbelievably, we found Carrie and Scott early on and visited and also attended a really neat prayer service prior to going to our respective corrals. It seemed a much shorter time that I was able to have DH stay with me than last year… I waited with another Wisher named Tricia (TnTsParty) in Corral F. She is faster than I am so we did not plan to run together.
By the time the race started, I was calm but still very excited. Off we went and I crossed the start line about 3-4 minutes into the race based on my chip time vs. finish clock time. The thing that shocked me the most was the huge numbers of male runners and even quite a few female runners that chose to use the trees and bushes as their port-a-potty for the first couple miles! :rolleyes:They did it again once we left EPCOT and this went on until the sun rose. I really did not see this as much in 2008 at the Donald!
I was in the red marathon start group but I did not pay very close attention to the race route prior to the race. I knew I would be running through all four parks but what I had no clue about was that I would be running through EPCOT twice!!! That was so great as a start to the race! :yahoo: We ran by the monorail and right by Spaceship Earth and I got a very cool picture there!
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d182/withspirit/Race%20photos/DSC01944.jpg
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d182/withspirit/Race%20photos/DSC01947.jpg
We went by Art of Disney and got to run through a nice sized section of the World Showcase too before we ran backstage and out of EPCOT. I was really on my plan from the beginning doing a walk three, run two and the miles started to mount up. I missed Rick at the 4-5 mile mark so the first familiar face I saw was DH at mile 9 at the Transportation and Ticket Center. He took a picture at each meeting we had:

My mom and dad were supposed to be inside the Magic Kingdom to greet me and disappointingly, I could not find them and really wondered what had happened. There weren’t so many people there that I would have missed them so I wondered what was up. When your parents are 71 and 72, you tend to worry when they don’t show up!! I did take a pretty awesome picture of the castle coming down Main Street and then from the back too!

I saw Rick again at Mile 12.5 outside the Poly. I just loved seeing him there because that stretch after the MK gets pretty boring and I was coming up on the halfway point. A word about fuel to help others (like Rozzie) planning to run. They have lots of opportunities to stay hydrated on this race but they don’t feed you anything until Mile 14. If I had not packed food, my race would have fallen apart through lack of food. For a slow runner, the three hour mark is way too late for food!! I did pack too much food as it turned out though because I did not eat as much after Disney gave us bananas – YUM!
I personally was not overly impressed with the actual amount of park time spent in AK. It seemed like we were backstage more than in the park but I may be wrong. It was very cool to see Expedition Everest though and I caught a neat pic of it running by! http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d182/withspirit/Race%20photos/DSC01969.jpg
I may have missed seeing a good picture of the Tree of Life but I really only saw a glimpse or two of the top of the tree and it wasn’t worth getting a pic of it.
I had told Rick that I had missed my parents in the MK and asked him to call them but he did not reach them. Lo and behold, to my great joy, I found them at Mile 17.8 right outside AK. It was soooo exciting to see them unexpectedly as we had not planned this at all. They thought I had already gone by at MK and left before I got there =( When that happened, they decided to go to AK before heading to the finish line. I gave them both a big hug and kiss. Daddy took a video of me coming up to them and somebody took a picture of us three together!
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d182/withspirit/Race%20photos/LisasMarathon2.jpg
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d182/withspirit/Race%20photos/LisasMarathon5.jpg
I left them and less than a quarter mile later, I ran right into Laura and gave her a great big bear hug. I was just so excited to see her – I hope you didn’t mind, Laura! Chuck came over to give me a very welcome hug too! I think those two meets kept me going through the worst of Miles 18 through 20.
Mile 20 starts the run out and back that Carrie dislikes so much. I was feeling that mile a bit more because I knew I had to repeat it but I did think it was kinda neat that we got to see fellow runners ahead of us and behind us on that stretch! When I had almost reached the turnaround, a couple Wishers ran right up to me and offered pretzels and orange slices along with a cold wet piece of washcloth! It was so nice of them to work so hard helping other Wishers!! That orange slice was pure heaven too.
I had told my boss I was going to run Mile 20 for him so I texted him and said I was doing it. He texted back, “You Rock.” I then decided it would motivate me to pick someone to run each of the last miles for. Mile 21 was for DS16, Mile 22 for DS19, Mile 23 for my parents, Mile 24 and 25 for my sisters, and the balance of the race for my DH (26.2 miles :thumbsup2:). One of my sons texted me, “keep going, you crazy MOM!”
Rick texted me to let him know when I was close to HS. I did and he told me to look for him on a park bench on the last street on my way out. I found him and he had bought me a fountain drink Coke. He thought I was going to take it with me on my run which of course would be very hard to run with but I did take several big drinks and took off again.
Right after I left HS to get to the Boardwalk, a young lady named Rachel befriended me. I credit her with making my last few miles so much more bearable. At Mile 23 or so, I had switched to a walk four, run one. I told Rachel my plan and she wanted to do it with me. She had trained to do the half but since it was full by the time she registered, she signed up for the Mickey with plans to quit at the halfway point. She was quite young though (maybe 20?) and she was still at it when she found me. It was great to have a partner right at the end to talk to and motivate one another!! I loved running through the World Showcase near the end of the race to all the cheering! When I rounded the last bend, I saw my parents under the big tree at the last turn and I waved and made my way to the finish line where I waved big when I saw Rick there!!
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d182/withspirit/Race%20photos/LisaMarathon1.jpg
I would have run faster at the end but for the first time during the whole race, I began to have shin cramps.
I got the Mickey medal and almost immediately ran into Carrie and got a big hug from her. I can’t wait to hear her race report too! From there, I went and had a picture made and then paid for a 15 minute massage for which there was no line – WOOHOO! Rick was waiting for me at the race reunion table where he took the pic I posted earlier and my parents soon followed. What a totally awesome experience it all was. :goodvibes: I am seriously considering making a try for the Goofy in 2010. I figure it’s now or never cuz I am not getting any younger, LOL!!!!

Oh quick RR from me. Warning--Peacocking ahead: I PR'd, shattered my old PR by almost 2 minutes. 27:22 unofficial. The higher power is in AZ this weekend doing the RnR Marathon out there, but he wanted a report immediately after the race. I could barely breathe on the phone with him LMAO! I am just happy to see how the training is paying off. Like Lisa said earlier, it really is the key--I would never have believed it before I started all of this. I can't think of another sport which gives you such tangible benefits in just a short amount of training. Running rocks!

Lisa, I meant to add--your outfit was cute as pie! Skirts rule! :thumbsup2:

Thanks, Rozzie! WOW, you should be peacocking around!!!!!! I am so proud for you on your PR :yahoo::goodvibes:

Lisa, great RR! I could soooo get a feel of how the full is going to be from your report. Minus the parents cheering me on that is LOL. How wonderful you have such a devoted family. Thanks for the head's up on fuel, I would have so died at 14 without food. How did the foot pain hold up? I am just so proud of you. I was actually thinking of you this morning when I did my first 10, and I remember you saying how 10 miles is easy for you now. I want to get to that place to be able to say that too! :)

How did everyone else's LR's go today? Like I said above, my 10 miler sucked wind. It rained buckets the entire time, my IPOD was dead, and I got this new right knee pain. (feels fine now) But all in a day's work, right? Looking back on it I know those kind of sucky condition runs will just make me stronger, right? :D

First...CONGRATULATIONS LISA & CARRIE on your marathon!!! Rozzie on your PR on Sat. Lisa great RR and pics....thanks for sharing.

Roz...sorry for the sucky weather today for your 10 miles.

I had a great walk/little running today. First time I have gone over to the HS track and it was nice. Did have a lot of people coming and going while I was doing my 7 miles and if my Garmin doesn't lie I had a 14:08 pace.

Really good pace Gail! I just got done with my 10 miles. Went out at 6 a.m. to do it, did 10 steps, said <expletive deleted> and turned the dog around and went back in and got under the covers. For hours. :blech: I've been hot, I've been cold. On and off over and over. So, I might be coming down with something. I dressed a little warmer than necessary and tried to sweat whatever it is out on my run...here's hoping that it worked! :biggulp:

Rozzie, believe me when I say you are right that some runs will be sucky one way or another but they do all make us strong. One run builds on another in a rather magical way :thumbsup2:

I really did not have any foot pain, YAY. I did feel an ache on the outside of my right foot at the site where I broke it a couple of years ago. That happens sometimes on longer runs. I do have one leftover toenail issue that still hurts though. I am in the process of losing several toenails again. Nothing I do seems to work for that??

I did not really do a long run today. I asked Rick to go for a walk with me and since he is very strongly considering doing the Half with me in 2010 :yahoo:, he wanted to do a fast walk. He really doesn't have the shoes for training yet and we really didn't pick the right trail either (it had too much gravel) but we did 4.5 miles at about a 16:25 pace overall with a half mile additional cooldown. I thought that was plenty for me as my MfM book calls for 2-3 miles slow and easy the Saturday after the marathon so I surpassed that.

OK, so while I was up at pre-dawn and not running, I ordered this super tape that Runner's World is hawking. I also did get some surgical masks (they are the ear loop kind, sorry guys). So, I'll bring the masks in March. I'll also bring the tape with a wicked cool print out from Runner's World on how to tape the most common problems (see what you can find online when you don't run at 6 a.m.?!!).

I also have Gail's fudge order. Anyone else need to make a flavor request? :D

Marathon is a Greek word meaning "run till you're dead".

Half Marathon was phrase coined by the not so talented runner name Ewepukeadis. He always vomited at the 9 mile mark.

Right now it would be more on the line of the 4/1, but we'll see how I am doing by the end of Feb. I am also using MfM. I'm always afraid if I run to much I will get to winded and won't be able to keep up walking fast enough. I think once I can get over that I will be able to run a bit more. It's a slow process but I'm getting there.

Well, my top 5 include many with nuts, but think about that if you are going to use these during the race. Order at least some without (you can break a lb. into two flavors, btw).

So that being said, I like Maple Walnut, Vanilla Nut, Pistachio, Vanilla Coconut, and Cherry Vanilla. Their chocolate is very good too, I'm just not a huge chocolate fan, hence why no chocolate in my top 5.

For using during running, Peanut Butter and Cherry Vanilla are my favorites. I like the concept of using red dye in the marichino cherries for evil -- it's gotta be like blood doping, don't you think? :rotfl2:

Yeah. I'm 8.5 narrow in the winter, 9 medium in the summer. Both of which are sold out. :(

So, for now, I continue to be a NB girl for the trail shoes (790s rock!), and a Nike girl. The new Adidas that just come in are pertty darn cool too and of course, they are also on closeout. :boohoohoo: BUT, they do match the color scheme of my house (I kid you not!), so I had to try them out. :rotfl2: They are also lightweight neutral shoes, so they made it into qualifying, but the fact that they were light blue and orange put them in my cart at check out....

Finding shoes is so hard for me. I'm thinking my last pair that I ran the marathon in were not my most successful pair...:confused24: I always liked the trail running shoes by Saucony so I got the new Saucony Triumph 6. Its for neutral runners which I am. They just don't seem to fit that well though. The hardest thing is not being able to buy my size in the store so maybe I should shop where nono did with low ship back fees...

Did you ever try Chiropractic, Rozzie? I absolutely swear by my "light touch" chiro doc. I think sitting and standing posture are also very important in warding off sciatic pain so no slouching, lady!! :D

nono

Lisa, what's great about road runner sports is you can run on the shoes and still return them. Never had to do it,as I can pretty much summarize by feel if they'll work for me, but it is nice to know I have that option.

OK, I just tied my first Ian knots, on the first try. I watched the video 2x last night and then did it from the diagrams this morning. Heading out to run. Will let you know what I think.

Okay, since we are all back to our designated parts of the country, I thought I'd ask what everyone's "plans" are for the next 2 years regarding races. I think it's fun to see what our individual racing plans are for the next while.

2009
Feb-Joe Cain 5K--Joe Cain Day is a huge party the Sunday before Fat Tuesday here. Mardi Gras is so big here, the birthplace of Mardi Gras, that kids get out of school for 2 days. I even get Fat Tuesday off LOL. Anyhoo my coach is the RD of this race, and has challenged us to "race it" without our "paraphernaila"--which he calls our Garmin and IPOD. Both of which he can't believe we race with. He is the ultimate old school. :D Anyway he only wants us concentrating on smashing and catching everyone in front of us. My hammies are hurting already. hehe.
March--Azalea Trail Run/10K--this is the biggest race of the year here. People run in it who don't even run LOL. Even the kenyan's come to try to break World Records in the 10K as the course is famous for being fast. It's a very old race and I just HAVE to do it now I'm a runner. ;)
Oct--TOT 13K. I think ya'll are familiar with this one.

Looking for a nice Dec race, maybe a half somewhere close, maybe Bham? Lisa?

2010
Jan WDW Full--My first Full, starting the tradition of running a Full every year. Ask me that about Mile 22 and I may give a different answer. :rotfl2:
March Gasparilla Marathon/Half Tampa--I am hoping to do that Bud Light Challenge thing, or maybe just the Half.
May-Flying Pig Marathon--I just have always been drawn to this race, plus RP is from Ohio. I hear great things about organization, loot and crowd support. I'll probably end up doing the Half, or maybe the Full? Who knows what type of crack I'll be smoking.
Nov-Tampa Trail Race--We still thinking about this, right? :)

Looking for a cool winter race for 2011 that's non-Disney. Jan or Feb. Open to suggestions. Was almost thinking about one of the RnR's. How on earth I'll get this much time off I have no idea.

Ian Knot:

I need to watch the video, the article just got me confused in that issue. Can't wait to hear how it goes!!!!!!!

Half in Hilton Head, got it! :)

Carrie, I don't have the stick, but I might have to get one if you like it for Piriformis. Actually I think that is exactly what is irritated, the muscle is tight on the nerve cuz' it doesn't radiate. Pigeon? I might have to google that. How often do you do the exercises? before run? After run? Thanks for the help. When do you get your pain? How bad is the pain and what else do you do for it?

I think it's cool too how Gail and Lisa are hookin' up. Nono and Carrie will be two specks on the horizon for me. Maybe they will wave when they flash by. :D I am actually getting into running it solo, it will be a good thing for me since I always have my RP by my side.

Rozzie - SInce I got the heel lift fr my short leg, I don't have to do it so much. Pigeon is before I run. Stick before to. Before adn after if it's acting up. I don't let it get bad enough fro teh nerve pain any more, but it used to shoot from mu pf all teh way down to my little toe. Ouch. Hamstricng stretches, mostly down dog I haev to do daily no matter what. Plus, whateevr I do in my weekly yoga.

Here's a 5 mile one at Valley Forge Park. We drive through there sometimes when we come home from the movies by the King of Prussia mall but I have not walked there yet.

Yes, it is a bit hilly...not too bad, though. Page down here -- there's an elevation map at the bottom:

http://www.kennettrun.net/RaceDay.htm

I ran it the first year I was running, and really enjoyed it. Want to do it again. You interested??!!

In other news, I took these shoes out for a 2 mile spin:

http://www.roadrunnersports.com/rrs/products/NIK1221/Womens_Nike_LunaRacer+_Racing_Shoe

I wouldn't call them racers...very soft underneath, and I like a racer to feel well: FLAT, since that's what I train in....but....
due to that, I think these will be excellent longer run shoes in the warm weather. I'm stoked.

:yahoo:

Also, this Saturday, I'm running my first ever 14 mi. training run. I'm just running out. Not an out and back. That means I should make it from my house to the northern tip of Avalon. For those who want to see the route:

Hope that works! Also hope Mr. Nono remembers to come pick me up!

Nono, thanks for the video! I am such a visual learner, I would have broken my neck trying to figure out that move LOL! I'll be with you in spirit this Sat, I have my first 12 miler. I'm also on call, and I will kill whoever has the nerve to page me with a case during the run. Oh, I'd bring the handy dandy phone with you, that walk back would suck! :D You got any fuel plans for your 14 miler? You going to taper, or go down to the wire? I think the higher power tapers some but he also believes in not a sharp taper for Halfs. I'm curious to see Feb's schedule.

So on your schedule, you say a Dec race in Jax? Like 09 race? I might drive over and meet you if you do, it's only 6 hours away and that might make a good Half (if they have a Half). In reality I am going to have to decide between Tampa challenge or Flying Pig in 10'. Might depend on spring break schedule for the kids, there is wailing and knashing of teeth between coworkers to get that week off. I think I'd make a enemy or two if I put my name into the lottery to get it off for a race.

Gail, that Valley Forge run would be a dream for me. Go and do it and take lots of pics. :) You thought any more about plans for the week we are down there? Or do you want to just mosey around? All I know I want a full day at AK, I didn't get that this past trip and I am going through serious withdrawal. :silly:

14 & 12 milers...I'll be thinking about both of you. Good luck with not getting any calls Roz and nono do take your cell for sure. According to MfM, I'm only suppose to do 4 miles on Sat. We'll see how I feel and how the weather is if I do more.

Roz...are you still thinking about maybe doing the Segway at Ft. Wilderness? Just moseying around is fine with me.

Hey -- thought -- bring all your race ideas to the Peacock meeting...something we can all discuss pre- and post-race!

Gail, there's a 5K at the Kennett event -- would be fun for you to do that one too, if you aren't feeling up to the 10K. Pretty low key event, with a nice post-race party.

Hello all fellow runners. I haven't been around much lately since we leave Fri for WDW. I'm planning on bringing my 305 with me to put in a few miles while there. My foot seems to be handling the pounding okay so far. Mind you, I haven't run farther than 4.5 miles yet. Trying to decide if I want to train for the Flying Pig or not. I better make up my mind soon or I won't be doing a full mary until fall.

I better get off this computer and finish packing or my DW will be smacking me in the head. Hope everyones running is coming along well.

nono, your running plans for the next two - three years are really awesome! I can't wait to hear your race report from the Boston Marathon!! :D I am excited to see you planning marathons now too! :w00t:

Looking for opinions and may need to do a longish run this weekend to help me decide but...the Mercedes Half is Feb 15, a week later than I thought. That could actually be good for further recovery from the marathon though. Do y'all think its okay to do two half-marathons three weeks apart? I don't do races for a fast time and during the early winter, four of my long runs included a half-marathon so that made 4 plus in only two months... I want to make a decision by the end of the weekend, if possible. :hyper:

You've got the base, I'd say do it. As long as you stay within yourself, you should be OK.
