CN- I'm jealous, but glad you're having fun! :thumbsup2:

Did 1800 yards @ the pool, and the main 1750 was in 29:21.68! :yahoo: I always like it when I'm under 30 minutes for that... :silly:

DG - can not believe that you ran 136 laps on a track...wow - you have some endurance. I think I might have gotten dizzy and fallen ;)

Beth - you're pics and posts have made Magic and Merriment sound like so much fun - wish we had decided to do it.

When I run, I run around a park and I have to run around it 1.5 times to make 1.2 miles approximately so I run around it 5 times to go a little bit more than 5k. I try to run around it 7 times to get a bit more out of it.

I tried to go running today in which I ran one mile and had to go back home as it started raining. I got home and got a rain coat the rain had stopped when I walked into my house as soon as I got to the sidewalk it started pouring like crazy! I stopped running...

Rick and I made it through our 15 mile run today pretty well. We are going to shoot for 20 next week even though that is a bit of a jump in mileage. Today was my longest run to date and Rick has done 16. We are grateful!! :goodvibes:

Great job, cyl-e; I think you did awesome, especially on the heels of your ten mile run!!

It was cold out there today, DG, but not like you have. sorry the treadmill is in your future :oweye:

Nice job cyl-e! Especially with all that traffic. I don't understand either the way folks seed themselves in the local races. It's one of my greatest pet peeves.

We managed 8 slow miles yesterday. Calves are still feeling tight after the race. More rolling in my future. :p

Diz- YMMV, but rain doesn't cause me asthma or other serious problems. As long as it isn't so intense as to seriously limit visibility I say just run through it; forget about a raincoat as that will just interfere with sweating properly unless it is a higher-tech fabric that blocks rain but remains breathable. In any case, good luck with the weather!

Lisa- Glad you got in those miles & I hope things go well for a 20!

Roz- Happy rolling, hope it helps!

32 minutes on the elliptical today. Gotta' head to work soon; haven't showered yet and should leave in about 5 minutes (like that ever happens)...

Dr.'s appointment tomorrow before work (to get the results of my sleep study!) and Praise Team rehearsal Tuesday night so chances are good it will be a rest day, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing... Maybe I'll play drums with extra vigor and call it cross training! :silly: (Believe it or not fitbit actually does have an activity slot for "Drums" that I didn't manually create! :thumbsup2:)

withdisneyspirit - great job on the 15 miler
All of you preparing for the marathon amaze me. I have been feeling like my 13-14 mile long runs are really long - can't imagine having to do more...

Bagged out on my speed work this morning - went to the gym and started warming up - but my legs felt like lead and I decided to give myself a break. So I went home and did a little (and I mean a little) yoga. Will try to get the workout in later this week. I think the 10miles, then the 5k race did me in, in terms of trying to have a real workout this morning.

Plus - I showed the restraint of my cat this weekend while eating (which is to say none...) - so the scale was a much less friendly number. Love holiday eating, just wish my scale would work with me more...

Amen sister! I am not sold on how important 20 milers are--the recovery from them needs to be realistic. If I ever do another full again I may knock them out entirely. I got 10/20 this weekend, but mainly doing it for my floundering fueling issues/confidence.

Wow! Everyone is meeting and beating goals! congrats!!!

I am going out for a run right now and remembered that I was wondering about running music. I have been listening to all kinds of music that I like but I cant keep a steady tempo with faster paced music. I was looking for something more calm or something like a radio talk show that is interesting. I have ran while listening to wdwtoday , I can keep my pace and it keeps me entertained. Any suggestions, I have an android phone so some options are out of the question. I also have an itouch with a lot of music but I dont want to update it as I dont have the original computer and will lose everything.

Knocked out 10 today -- first mile way slow warm up with my 7 yr old dd (She asked if she could take a break from her school work and go run 1 mi!). Then I did the boardwalk plus a bit by myself for 6 more, then picked up my dog and did a final 3 on the sand.

So, I'm thinking of dividing up my race into 5 segments, with 4 1/4 mile walking breaks after every 5 miles. Walking in my Nike Frees really seems to "reset" everything in my lower body, so I'm thinking to make myself more comfortable, I should do this. I am working this pattern into all my longer runs. I imagine the hardest part of all will be remembering where the breaks are: 5-5.25 mi, 10.25-10.5 mi, 15.5-15.75 mi, 20.75-21 mi. Must remember bic pen to write these on me that morning!

DiZ NeE 08
12-13-2011, 06:18 PM
Nono - congrats on finding a certain pattern that works for you!

today I just did the 5k as I started getting cramped up. I decided to go to runners depot which is a running store that is about 40 minutes from me, but I wanted to see if my running has gotten better, how my footing has gotten. barry which I believe is the manager told me that my running is getting a lot more efficient and im running on the balls of my feet instead of my old heal-toe which would give me massive shin splints! out of 4 shoes that I tried I only really liked one pair which are called newton - isaac newtons but they were 150 plus tax and I was planning on spending that much money on a pair of shoes that would be just for running because I tried to walk in them and after about 2 minutes of walking my calves started killing me!

does anyone else run on the balls of their feet? Do you prefer certain shoes?

nono- Great on the run, dd, and your interval plan! GL w/ the 23rd.

CN- I'm looking forward to checking out that thread when I get a chance.

Roz- Hope the 10/20 goes well.

Diz- I do conventional heel strike running and love the Brooks Adrenaline GTS series of shoes, but everyone's biomechanics are different. Specialty shoes like neutons are more expensive than more mainstream ones. I currently budget $108 per pair and to buy four a year, replacing each pair after I cross 283.75 miles on them (Since I'm pretty heavy at 243.8 pounds currently I break down shoes faster than some people; there are those who will put 300 - 500 or more miles on a pair before replacing them. My dad had some shoes with well over 1000 miles on them, but he's also now had 5 knee surgeries). Anyway, I keep 4 pairs of running shoes active at any given time; two that I alternate workouts on at the treadmill and a separate 2 I alternate for outside runs. Reason: There are schools of thought that giving shoes some recovery time for cushioning to decompress can help them last longer and help avoid injuries. Using different shoes on each workout can also help make sure the exact same points (muscles, tendons, etc.) aren't overused by casuing things to hit slightly differently.

I'm sure Roz & nono can give you better explanations (I spent most of my teenage years up to my early 30s rebelling against my dad and running so I'm not nessecarily that great a spokesman! :silly:), but I hope that gets your thought process started.

I just finished reading the last part of it and I loved it! Thank you for posting it. Amazing pictures!!!

Dg - how tall are you? I currently weigh 200lbs and I switch 2 pairs of nike moto 6 shoes that I found on sale a while back... I think I might have the same problem as your dad. I have shoes that I still use from high school because I love them so much, but not for running! I think the bad thing about the nike moto 6's is that I use them for everything. I have had them for almost a year I think. I use them so much since they are soo comfortable which is probably my down fall! I might have to go hunting for another pair of motos

Diz, be very careful about the Newtons. They are not for everybody. My sports Doc says he is going to write a thank you note to Newton for all the new business. (kidding of course, but he said he has seen a dramatic rise in stress fxs/achilees from folks incorrectly using them) Not to knock Newtons, as he wears them. He is a lean 170, over 6ft and very efficient runner. (he does not heel strike) What newtons do is almost train you into a proper forfront positin (not heel), but some people rebel against the action and do far too many miles in them all at once. Heel striking leads to injuries too and takes a lot more effort. Lisa on here had chronic knee problems and was told never to run again from a Doctor and then she stopped heel striking and she is a different gal now. It's good you are getting in the proper form early!! It took me about 2 years, and when I finally made the switch is when my pace started dropping. When I am tired I lose proper form and notice I still will heel strike (and knee pain will start), it's something I have to be mindful of all the time.

DiZ NeE 08
12-14-2011, 08:48 AM
Wow rozzie that is crazy! when I went to the running store I was looking for something like dg around 108. The newtons felt pretty good while running on the treadmill but walking on them gave me pain. When I saw the price tag I was like wow buddy! But thank you for letting me know...

The good thing is that now I know I need shoes that have slight stability and I like cushion, mucho cushion. Now just to find a shoe that is like that.

Diz- I'm about 5' 10".

In spring 2008 (or was it '09?) I topped out @ 303.5 pounds and was stage 2 of 5 to liver failure. Decided that didn't sound fun, esp at 33 years old so I started changing diet & began exercising. I managed to get as low as 214.0 on two seperate days, last time in mid-Aug 2010. Best race of my life was April 2011 @ ~225 #.

I need to get these headache & sleep issues worked out. I'm convinced that will help w/ energy, alertness, motivation & general health. Then I'll get back to fewer missed exercise days & meet my current goal of getting down to & maintaining 200 pounds flat. At that point I want a BodPod body fat analysys (and/or DEXA scan) to see if it is a healthy weight for me despite what BMI charts (which I hate & think are wayyyyy oversimplified / averaged) say I should be.

More immediate goals: Not gain much more wait through holidays & finish marathon alive! ;)

PS- That $108 comes from $100 plus tax in case anyone found it an odd number.

Reguarding other activities: I plan to annually buy 3 pairs of lower end "running shoes" to just walk/around in when not exercising in addition to 2 pairs of "casual" non-athletic shoes to where to work Mon-Thurs. I can & do wear running shoes on Fridays! On the elliptical I use the most recently retired pair of treadmill shoes I have...

I guessed that the $108 would be like 99.99 with taxes added to it, because I was calculating the same. I have thought about buying new "running" shoes for what you buy them for every year but I never have the money. I have had steve madden shoes that I saved up for that I use for getting dressed up.

I have been wondering if I should change the nike shoes that I use for running already since I use them for everything! or just see if I can find the same shoes, buy them and a different colored shoe lace so that I can differentiate the old with the new ones by a quick glance!

Wow DG you have come a long way! That deserves a HUGE congratulations and a drink or somehting. lol! I have to get more sleep into my schedule, I tend to go crazy when I prevent myself from getting the correct amount of sleep and enough energy as I barely even have time to go buy stuff at times. mostly because tomorrow is my Paramedic 1 lab final and I have been studying Day - Night, Night-Day!!! but wow! I was once in the same situation but when I was 11... I lost A LOT of weight quickly thanks to puberty helping me out but I was always in the hospital and so on and so forth. don't really like to talk about it!

We have to meet up some time DG!!! I definitely have to have a drink with you!

I also have been controlling myself mostly since I work at cracker barrel which is no where near healthy for me. lol! I hope to keep running and maybe one day run a marathon with all of you!

Good luck on the marathon, when it happens of course!

Well, I didn't manage to run Tuesday morning before our flight, but I did run when we got home. And then I got my miles in last night as well. So the training is back to normal except for one thing...I'm in week 2 of a horrendous tendonitis flare. This is the same spot in my right leg that always bothers me (hurts when I get up after sitting for a while, hurts when I start running, etc). I've been doing the bone test and there's no sensitivity on the bone, it's all just to the inside. So I'm guessing I'm okay to keep running, but I'm concerned about doing my back to back LRs this weekend. I've been doing my shorter run first then the longer run, but I'm wondering if I should switch it in case I have to bag the longer of the two. This is discouraging, since this hadn't bothered me like this in SO LONG (since late spring). I've changed out my shoes and I'm icing, rolling, and sleeping in my compression socks.

DiZ NeE 08

CN - hope that tendonitis/pain goes away quickly! ice and heat works magic "sometimes". By the way CN I was looking at the 990square website and it is a blog, right? Love the pictures and the pages you have there! My family are not sports people so I never ran or did much physical stuff in high school unless I had to. My family is shocked that I am running this much!

I have AMAZING news!!! first let me start out by saying that last night I worked until 10, got home, took a bath and went to bed. I woke up at 5 as I knew I was going to be anxious for my Paramedic 1 final. I ran 4 miles as I needed to take a bath, make breakfast and get ready for school.

I took my Paramedic 1 final about 30 minutes ago and I passed it with a 97%. I just wanted to thank you all for posting here and answering all of my question even if some were stupid at times. lol! I have noticed why I have been so motivated to run. I have time alone, time to think and gets me concentrated! I really want to thank you all for the advice you have all written and even though you might not see it you all are my motivation also!

sorry if I sound a little sentimental as I have been spending sooo much time studying for this final and I have passed it. now to go have a drink!!! lol!

I would really have like another strong back to back LR. Oh well. I'm figuring I did 4 (and probably actually 5 if I count the run from last Saturday plus all of that crazy Disney walking I did on Sunday), with the longest combo being 9 in a race and then 7 the next day. Not really what I would have wanted, but I also don't want to have a screaming tendon for the Sunday portion of the race either.

We saw the Lion King last night as part of our Broadway Across America season ticket package. It was pretty good, but the only part of it that really blew me away was the song "He Lives in You", which was really moving. It was definitely funny how many of the performers had worked at WDW.

Also, I've put an Osborne Lights video on the blog today http://www.990square.com/2011/12/holiday-good-cheer/

Oh heck, I plan on her being way better by then. Right now, I'm trying to get her straight for the Christmas Pageant at church tomorrow morning! :oweye: The clan picked up Renee along the causeway at about 10 1/2 miles (she's still building miles after the long, warm fall). Oh the moaning I heard from the kids! So, I know they are not at 100% -- normally they love crewing for me. Luckily, Mr. Nono was in great shape and said just the right things to keep me going ("Hey, I'll pick up bagels!"). So, 17 miles in 3:14. Yeah. Wicked slow. I'm frozen solid now, so I'm going to crash on the floor for a bit, then get up and do a little slideboarding then get cleaned up for the day. We have two trees to decorate!!!!

10 miles done. And as a bonus it was COLD today so I got to wear my CWX tights for the first time this season and man, what a difference they made. So I think I'm going to try running in the Zensah socks (since it looks like there MAY be a blowtorch for the east coast in early January on the long range forecasts I'm going to go out on a limb and assume it's going to be WAY too warm for CWX at Disney) and see how that goes. And if it goes well Santa may bring me a second pair!

(We are going to bring a pan of it for the villa for pre race easy munching) now all I need is a new achilees by 0400 tomorrow....mmmnn. I really do. Hate these huge runs on call where I basically have to run in a circle in the middle of the night.

Well Roz, if it is any consolation, I felt my foot rip in two (in the bad spot) at about 12:96 miles...then it died off, and now it's not happy, but no swelling or bruising. You know, we've talked about how Disney's Marathon is perfect for the time when one can't lay down a great time....so if that's the way it is, let's go have some fun out there! :hug1:

Did 14
Getting really hard to motivate myself for these long runs...not sure if it's the cold or distance or both. Luckily this is my last really long run before the relay! But boy is my body complaining. My left knee starts hurting around mile 7, outside of the knee. I tried focusing on landing mid foot and that did seem to help a little. My legs just felt heavy and tired. The course I run is extremely hilly, so I don't worry about time much, but did I feel slow. At one point, almost felt my left knee/leg give out on me. But I held it together to finish. Took some Advil. Feel ok now, both knees just a bit creaky, particularly not happy about walking down stairs. Hopefully my left knee will hold up until after the races.
Congrats on everyone else's long runs!

Where is my helicopter when I need it? I would love to drop in (and we're going to be in DE)! But that ferry is too slow! Although I do need to ride it before March, since it was on my 30 before 30 list. And I'm going to be the big 3-0 three months from yesterday. YIKES! :scared07:

Another Ratskellar Holiday party on the books and it was a pretty successful one if you ask me! This was our seventh year hosting the party and I think we've finally got it all figured out. Now two weeks to recover before we host new years! I'm feeling pretty good this morning (although a little sleep deprived since our niece stayed with us and she had a hard time going to sleep) so I think I might try a short run. It seems like the compression socks really worked. Although I may have left my recovery/cleaning outfit on a bit too long--a few people caught me in my black shorts/black long sleeve/hot pink compression socks combo.

Rozzie
12-18-2011, 10:59 AM
Holy crap Beth! You mean wearing the hot pink compression socks 24/7 is frowned upon by the non running society? Fooey with em' I say, let us wear em' and be proud!! :p Heck I have lived in mine the past 48 hours. They do make a difference with me right now. I was sitting one day this week trying to figure out the common thread between Goofy and AF--and both races I was wearing compression. So I am not saying that is why crap hit the fan in AC, but it is interesting that I was not wearing them. I do wear them everynight to bed in the winter, but now I am living in them. I do think I might order a white pair, a new pair that is tight (they use their umphh with so much use--get stretched out) and maybe not stand out so much in the race in Jan. I don't like any attention drawn to myself, and will already have plenty as I plan on wearing my exposers even though I am still too heavy for them. They are the only shorts that don't chafe me and people are just going to get a free show.

So the 20 miler went nice this morning! I don't know what to do, as I don't think I ever felt okay on one. I took the first 10 miles real conservative, and hit the last 8 kinda hard. Achilees and arch of foot started hurting only during last mile--and it was minor. Fueling went well too. 2 gels, and about 12 ounces of water total. Now however everything hurts of course. Whole body tight and is achy. Now that is more normal LOL. Wearing my Cwx tights and CEP socks. I look like a compression commercial. :silly: Just glad it is done. It was the biggest monkey on my back. Just have 16 and 13/14ish left. Let taper madness begin. I am even more happy that it's my last training 20 for over a year. I am ready to put this marathon monster to bed for a year. ;-)

Just 2 walking miles and 15 minutes of slideboarding today. I'm toast. Foot is killing me, yada yada yada. I hope it doesn't come off in FL! Now that would be gross, but totally funny too!

6 somewhat painful miles this morning mitigated by the fact that Renee and I made it to the boardwalk before the sun peaked over the Atlantic. No marine layer, so pure, dead-on beautiful sunrise. Nono, geepers! What do we need to do to get you healed up? You have a much better attitude than I would have.

Got a lower leg massage today just on my achilees and calves, and arches. Seems my right lower leg it trying hard to develop something nasty. Plantar vs Achilees--well really they are all connected. The weirdness in my arch this past few months was not just "weirdness"....We are ahead of the game thank goodness and both feel we stopped it in its tracks. Its great to have a massage guru who learns your leg inside out and feels when something is different--not just tight. However, I might have to get a second job.

Guys, don't worry about me. I'm just tightrope walking here. My bod is just out-of-sync! Matt and Brad talk about that a bit in Run Faster...my aerobic capacity is so much better than where I was when I started running in 2006, esp. with a year's worth of swimming now. And, it doesn't seem to get phased much by carrying around the extra weight. But hoo boy, my muscular/skeletal system sure notices the difference.

Just checking in -- been lurking. Love following along and I continue to learn so much from all of you. Thank you.

My mileage is down to about 10 per week -- this may be were I stay, but I've decided that's OK. Ran 3 miles on Sunday and pulled a calf muscle -- that was a first. Thought I'd been shot in the leg. Walked a little while then hobbled on home. It's still tight, but better.

Have kept up with my weight training at least 4 days per week.

We are headed to WDW tomorrow. Should be there Thursday afternoon. Staying offsite for the first several nights to save some cash (out of points), but will be at Kidani the day after Christmas. Have BIL & family staying with us and DD10 has her best friend and her parents staying the same time also at Kidani (long story).

If I don't get to check-in again -- Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Blessed Holidays to you all.

Sweet!!! everyone is making it along! congrats to everyone with making their goals although a bit of pain and soreness.

a few days a go I did 5 miles before work which I worked A LOT. that night when I got home I had immense calf pain/soreness it kind of hurts but feels like soreness. I woke up an hr ago as I worked until late last night and I woke up with the pain/soreness again. I have put Icy/hot on it as I haven't been able to put ice on it. I am really scared as I have gotten so far in running and now this happens to me, ahhhhhh!!!!! I hope someone has had experience with this as all I found was stuff online. All I read online is that I pushed myself passed my limit and could have hurt it, but I ran the 5 miles and felt great after so it has to have been only the 30 minutes rest until work and then an 8hr shift. I don't work today and I have a HUGE itch to go running but I am so scared to go running and messing myself up. I have no health insurance so I can't go to a doctor for this kind of stuff.

Well, I wish I had something happy to report. I did an exciting elliptical workout last night instead of my run. Now I'm trying to decide if I should do elliptical workouts between now and WDW, or if I should still go for my long runs. Not running kills me. I get so depressed about it. But on the flip side, I would like to be pain free going into WDW, and two weeks without pounding might do it. I'm worried with how persistent the pain seems to be this time, with no amount of icing and rolling seeming to bring any relief (as it has in the past). I'm still not getting pain when I push on the bone in the area (which from previous Dr. visits would be what I should expect if I actually had a stress fracture, not a tendon issue) but then tendon is so sore. I'm just so discouraged. I know I've been here before, but I wanted so badly to go into WDW strong, and I was so careful with my mileage, and just when I wanted to feel awesome, this comes up AGAIN.

And the other truth is that the double at WDW in January wasn't actually my end goal. I may have already moved my sights to fulfilling a big life goal on March 18--running a full marathon. And I don't know if that's going to be possible, if I take a longer break now and miss some LRs. And that's what's really killing me. It's not too late to back out of the marathon, but this was going to be the time I actually DID IT and I had already laid out some cash to commit myself. :boohoohoo:

That is the most gosh darn cutest pic EVER! I just want to box her up and ship her to Alabama. :goodvibes:

Beth, those are hard decisions. One of those that whatever you decide you will probably second guess yourself. (or I would) If you really want to do your Full, I would let that be your goal and treat Jan as some good old fashioned endurance workouts. Do another week of elliptical and reevaluate. If all you want to do is finish a marathon, with walking, then you could probably squeeze that out with only a couple of LRs in Feb. I hate you are dealing with this! I am expecting crap to hit my fan too. I cut a short workout today as I felt something weird in my foot/toe area. It feels fine now but I am just almost lunatic crazy about getting injured right before. I can't remember the last big race I went into where I was not nursing something. Just once I want a healthy 100% start! I think we have all been in the injury boat before, but you and Nono both deserve some heathly days too!!

As for the new race, I guess I need to make decisons quick. Back when it was the W&D on the orginal date I was set to go. My brother started running, is doing quite well and really wants to do a Disney race with me and we had both penciled this date in. Now I am not sure how he would feel about a 10 miler--he had heart set on a HM. Mmmn. Novemeber is such a prettier more comfortable time to race in--and a much better time for us to since we will be out of hurricane season. But MG's bday is in Sept and I would hate to miss that too. Certainly can't afford to do both.

What is everybody else thinking?

cloudnut220
12-21-2011, 02:07 PM
Thanks Roz. I was already (in my brain) treating January as some good long endurance workouts. I wasn't planning to race either day, just to finish with a reasonable time (something in the 2.10 to 2.15 range each day would be awesome). I want to finish my marathon strong and in under 5 hours with no walking, so as soon as I made the decision to do it, that, not January, really became my goal. I would rather walk on during the relay at WDW than during my marathon. This inflammation has always flared up then calmed down on its own. It seems like it's hanging around longer this time...or maybe my memory is just warped :)

As for Wine and Dine, the only way I was going to get to do that race was if my sister scheduled her Wedding right. We're still waiting for the date for that (she can schedule it next month!!) so I'll have to hold off on any decisions until after that. I'm in the NYC Marathon pre-lottery, so if by some miracle I made it into NYC, I would be running that November 4, 2012, making any W&D VERY unlikely :D

It HAS to be better than the 13k. Besides we don't have to many chances to do a 10 miler. September would fall in line for a good time trial for the Kyser half in November or the Holiday half in December.and it would be another great reason to see everyone.

So - I have to say that both DH and I were really disappointed in the announcement today. We have really enjoyed doing the Wine & Dine and staying afterward to enjoy the Food & Wine festival. We had, in fact, already booked our DVC ressies for next year b/c they listed the dates for next year's Food & Wine in this year's program (and in the recent marathon program). Now - we don't know what we'll do. It's really disappointing.
The new date - is not a real good time for us - curling season starts in mid-October - so it would interfere with that if either of us is focusing on curling. Also - coming at the end of Food & Wine - if you wanted to enjoy Food & Wine, you'd have to do your eating the week before the race - just not my ideal. I strongly prefer doing the race first - so I don't tire my legs walking all over WDW and eat crazy amounts of rich food...
Yes - I know - we could do the Tower race, but whether this is rational or not - it's just not as appealing to me. 10 miles vs. half marathon. Tower theme vs. Wine & Dine. Nothing against the Tower race - we had some interest in it when it was around before.

So - can anyone tell me why the Tower race is so "good" - people do seem excited about it. But I'm really bummed right now and DH and I are sitting here scratching our heads about what to do with our vacation for next year...

Cyle, I answered you on ROTE too. ;) I'll go into more detail here.

The first year I ran ToT the race was freakin' awesome. I talked it up and talked it up and we got a group of us to go down for the next one. OMG, RunDisney totally just pulled up on the race and turned it 180. Just a cheesy bunch of crap. I was embarrassed as I even talked one of my Docs at work into driving down for it. So to answer your question, it will be either super cool or lame-o. Since it's a inaugural event I expect some kinks, but not as many as it should be same set up as prior races there. I would put money on it being cool again as Disney wants to market it well. As for the 10 mile distance, I have never done a 10miler but I am intrigued on the distance. I will probably try to do a 10K pace for it and see where I land--so I will like to have something to train for fast but endurance level too. Something new for me to help the burnout I am kinda going through. I am kinda :confused24: that they didn't make it a half. I mean "13" and all. Maybe the 10 mile race is something "different" that people will want to do both, not sure.

As for the week before, OMG, we did that one year prior to ToT. NEVER AGAIN. I was so hungover and fat by the time the race rolled around I about gagged the entire time. I think it was my worst race ever. I was so off on my time goal I have blocked it out of my memory. :blech:

Saying all that this whole switch-a-roo is classic RunDisney at it's finest. I remember the first year of the Princess and we had a Peacock group all pumped as it was a new course through AK. We throw our money to Disney and they change the course back to the course we all hated. It was a big stink. I still can't get excited about that race ever since they did that. (I am not a fan of the Jan HM course)

I would be disappointed too if I were you. I know there are some folks on ROTE that are upset as they have their DVC ressies down and want to remain "perfect" for W&D but now kinda stuck. Its just weird how they decide to do this at last minute. Well not really last minute but after they printed it up and all! Like I said, Classic RunDisney.

Nono, I'll come up for that 10 miler. I want 45 degree race start and max 10mph wind. That wind that scares me now. I learned real quick I am a you know what. :p

So is the Tower of Terror Challenge, the 10 mile, in lieu of the Wine and Dine half-marathon in 2012 since it's the same weekend, or is the W&D a different weekend in 2012? Although I THINK that for Guy, the 2011 Wine and Dine half-marathon, although he loved it and finished well, isn't in his plans next year.
On a related note, though, is anyone planning on the Goofy Challenge (both the half marathon and marathon is what I hear) in January? Guy's already starting his training for it in January 2013. Any tips? And is anyone familiar with what's "affectionately" called the Dopey Challenge that weekend? If you know about it, that's his idea of a good time. If you're not familiar with it, maybe you'd like to try it.

I also found it quite surprising that they would change this after announcing the wine and dine dates. They sure don't seem to understand DVC! That said, I would probably like the TOT 10 miler also. Wine & Dine has not been our favorite race even though we have done both. They just start it too late and this year they put us way back from the party. When you are slow, you don't really have party time :(

A mute point for us on either race as we have a family trip (everyone - almost 30 people) and we are going at Thanksgiving!!

Thanks Rozzie -
What made it so awesome the first year and so lame-o the second?

Simbasmom - they moved the Wine & Dine to a later date (Nov 9-10)

Withdisneyspirit - I think ToT is going to start late also - so I'm not sure there's much difference there...

Wanted to keep the tradition of Wine & Dine going - but don't want to do Food & Wine before it - and, Rozzie, your post convinces me more so - that's exactly what I was thinking. Either I'll spend the whole week not enjoying the food being good for the race - or I'll (more likely) enjoy myself and then be a plodding butterball...

Didn't know that this was par for the course for RunDisney - making me less excited about their races. We were just thinking about doing Everest too - but now are a bit down on it all... It's possible we'll end up doing Tower anyway...we already have reservations for then. But I'd really like a half in the fall, not just a 10 miler.

Nono, I'll come up for that 10 miler. I want 45 degree race start and max 10mph wind. That wind that scares me now. I learned real quick I am a you know what. :p

45 F is likely. However, headwinds will likely be more like 25-30 mph. Maybe snow flurries. Etc. One year, just one, there was a southerly wind. That was a good year! Problem is now even this race sells out in advance! :boohoohoo:

I guess I need to get on the horn in the morning and call for a DVC ressie. Going to attempt a THV. :fingerscrossed: My brother and his family are a green light, and now my other brother in NC is coming too. He'll probably stay with his inlaws in Orlando though. I just think it is sooooo cool how my brothers are starting to get serious about running. Not just for the fun for me seeing them, but for their health. My bro in NC is a big tennis player so he's in shape and I suppose healthy--but my brother here really needed to make some lifestyle changes. They are both real excited about the race. I LOVE to see people making positive steps in their life. Especially with our wicked family medical history.

Cyle, the first year I did it they had more special effects and characters. The second year they cut out a lot of the extra fluff. Basically the race was already pulled and they just through it all together half hearted.

Nono, 35mph? :scared07:

Dorothy, I did Goofy last year. This year MM is doing it. I would advise him to get a good base and then go into Hal Higdon's Advanced Marathon plan. It has a schedule with the back-to-backs he might want to do before Goofy. He can always change around some of the days to suit his typical running pattern he is in now. The most important thing with Goofy (I think) is getting miles in, not so much speed. Yeah people do it on less mileage but they are pretty miserable. JMHO. :)

Glad to hear from someone who's done the Goofy. Guy's a big believer in training for 30 miles before a marathon. And a friend of ours, who also did the Goofy (well, actually the "Dopey"), also said to pretty much forget speed. And the Dopey Challenge is when you do the 5K, half marathon, then the marathon on the 3 consecutive days. I thought it sounded crazy, but Guy thought "fun"!

Now, now. That's how rumors get started. I said 25-30 mph....

It's a very popular Maniac race. So that tells you something. It's for the crazy! :silly:

Well, I'm up but I'm not getting out there to run just yet. I took my dd upstairs last night for bed, and she asked me to stay. I did, and woke up at 4:15 a.m.! So, I just finished last night's cooking plans, and wrestled her doll house out of the car and upstairs. It's now wrapped and hidden in the closet in "your" room Mr. & Mrs. Roz. I'm having some coffee, chocolate sour cherry bread with blueberry preserves, and waiting until sunrise as Renee is going south with me on the first leg. Since we run along the causeway, I need to be SEEN. It's nice to have a bit of quiet time before the attempt for 20. :thumbsup2:

GL Nono! It's great you got Renee to keep you company. :thumbsup2:

Dorothy, the one thing that kept me from doing Dopey is that #1, the 5K is not a timed course. #2, it's against my religion to pay for a non-timed course #3 getting up at 0300 for 3 days in a row. Even though I get up at that time a lot for to run before work, something about doing it down there makes it worse. (Maybe because it's like getting up at 0200 LOL!) I know a ton of people that do Dopey and have a blast. I am sure Guy will have fun.

I took today off from my 9miler. My foot feels "off". Can't explain it. I think a day at rest will be enough to get it back feeling "on".

Haven't gone out yet, 'cause my son came down while it was way dark out, and we napped on the couch. Now, dd wants to run a mile with me, so that's cool. We're all up and trying to map out everything, and once there's some consensus on timing, I'll go out. Looks to be warm and sunny here, so I hope Renee's up for her 8 mile leg! (Right now, odds are it might be a 7 mi leg, with a 1 mi daughter leg, another 8 miles on my own, then another 4 at the beach with possibly everyone as it is so nice <---- the major reason there's still a discussion about timing going on.)

Good luck nono!

Way to take a rest day Roz. Like you told me, we need to baby it at the end! And speaking of babying, my leg is feeling MUCH better today.

Roz, if you all are going to be down for ToT I might really try to push my sister to pick that last week in Sept for her wedding. But I also need to pick a weekend to visit AL and the restaurant! And nono, I would totally be in for the 10mi if I was in the country! 10 milers seems to be pretty popular around here...there are more locals 10 milers than halfs it seems! Broad Street Run, Baltimore 10, Annapolis 10, Cherry Blossom, Bottle and Cork are all 10 mile races.

The bad news keeps rolling in around here, just in time for christmas. One friend in the hospital with pregnancy complications, another just lost a baby. A close family friend is really sick and was just given maybe a year to live. And here I am worried about my marathon dreams. I know where you stand is derived from where you sit, but I know that I need some more perspective sometimes.

with the Wine & Dine snafu - now I'm looking at (and getting excited about) potentially doing the Maui Half Marathon - Sep 18. It looks awesome and we've been out to Maui in that timeframe before for a work conference for DH. Haven't talked about it with DH yet - so who knows. And it's a lot more $ to travel to Hawaii rather than WDW.

At least I'm feeling excited again...

Finally feeling a little better about the whole Wine and Dine thing as we've come up with a few options (Maui is probably not that likely given cost, although it looks incredible)
By I've been in this ridiculous exchange of emails with RunDisney about the change. I keep writing them emails with specific questions and requests and they keep sending back emails that are either form letters or don't answer the question I sent. First, I wanted to know what they would do to help those of us who pre-booked with DVC and borrowed points. All they sent back was a form letter saying to contact DVC. So I did - and DVC was great, they allowed me to reinstate the borrowed points in the year that they came from because the change was due to RunDisney changing the race date.
Then I sent an email asking about C2C. DH was intending to complete his C2C at the 2012 Wine and Dine and had signed up for the Tinkerbell 2012 for that reason only (as I was going to do Tink). Now that he can't, I asked whether they would be able to sprinkle a little Disney magic and award him a C2C at Tink as he did a half on both coasts within 12 months (2011 Wine and Dine and 2012 Tink). I know that this is not their norm, but he would have been able to complete it if they didn't change the dates and he only signed up for Tink to get it. Alternatively, I suggested that they could refund his Tink entry.
They sent me an email reply that just said that he could get a C2C if he does Tink 2012 and Wine and Dine 2012 in November but not Tower 2012 as it is not a half. Duh - tell me something I don't know. It's either that they aren't actually reading my email or are willfully ignoring my questions. I can't figure out how to get a real response and/or talk to someone live, I also can't figure out how to get them to show any concern or compassion or Disney-ness.
Any suggestions? Is there a phone number to call? I could talk to someone when I am at the expo in January, but I am afraid that they will piss me off and then ruin marathon weekend for me.
It just seems like a small thing to do, bend the rules just slightly and give a medal to DH. It doesn't cost them hardly anything and would earn some appreciation from us
Aargh

Happy Birthday John!! Hope you are having a magial bday in the happy place!

Cyle, I do feel for you. I think you won a major victory by getting your points back. Believe me, DVC is not quick to do that. I remember I asked for mercy as my stepdad died 2 days before a trip a few years back and they did not budge. I am happy to see DVC step up and do the right thing. I think your best battle will to get a refund for Tink. I don't see RunDisney granting the medal--as that would open up it up to everyone who got shafted on the C2C. (even though it would be nice Disneyish thing to do) RunDisney is a strange animal for sure, but at the end of the day it is a business. I think it stinks how they changed things around, really crimped a lot of peoples plans.

I do think I remember them offering Nono a refund for her when they changed the course for the Princess late in the game. I don't remember hearing anybody on ROTE getting a refund for the next Princess when they changed the actual date even after the announcement. (I even think registration was opened when they did, or might have dreamed that) I had a real bad taste in my mouth about the course change, and almost wrote off Disney racing from then on. I finally decided that I like combining my two interests/loves/money suckers and I was going to have to just accept anything that RunDisney offers with a grain of salt. Courses will change, dates will probably change again. Heck, this ToT 10 miler might turn into a 1 miler since I am psyhed about racing a 10 miler. I have never run one before and I keep hearing from so many folks how it's their favorite distance. It fits into my plan to concentrate on middle distance this year. (even though its more endurance than true middle distance..anyway I digress...)

If someone would ask my personal opinion, the easiest thing out of this is to treat the 10 miler as a qualifier for C2C. Anyhoo, I sure do something works out for you--somehow, someway!

cyl-e, I'm glad stuff is working out for you, even if RD is being a pill. Don't be too sad about Maui--I didn't want to say this before, but I read some really mixed race reports after this years race. It sounded like not a great experience for a lot of people.

My leg is feeling about 90 percent. So on Noel's suggestion, I'm going to elliptical a regular length workout today (about 45 minutes) and then try for a LR (well, longish--8 miles or so) on Monday. It will move my schedule around a bit, but I just want to make sure this is really okay. It will also give me a full week off from running (but still keeping it up on the Ellip-I'm wearing my HR monitor to make sure I'm getting in the right range). Hopefully this works out. I HATE NOT RUNNING. I also feel like all of my willpower around food is gone because I'm not running...yuck.

Beth, sounds good to me. My old running coach would talk about taper and always say "the hay is in the barn". Really in taper you are just stacking and rearranging. 2 weeks is what most folks say is the cut off to benefits from hard workouts, as in increasing performance sort of way. (in other words, takes two weeks before benefit shows up physically and physiology) That's the theory anyway. I think it's very WISE what you are doing. Sounds perfect actually. Another day of rest then test it in the LR. I bet things are going to work out just fine for you!

This is my last week of harder longer runs. Did 9 yesterday, 6 miles a little faster today, then 16 tomorrow. Then it's another level down on the taper meter. My foot is still weird but no pain. Just a tightness. My piriformis is being difficult, on both sides no less! That's a new one for me. I have gotten to a point where I expect to feel like sh....ooot during taper. I does mess with me mentally and second guess everything. Then I think, it's only a freaking race! Not the Olympic trials or anything. Not even my last race ever. Just working on my attitude a little.

Merry Christmas Eve to all the Peacocks! Our plans are for me to clean house today, close restaurant at 5pm, go to Mr Roz's aunts in Mobile. Then home to have our traditonal gift exchange and Rosa Regale with bits of good chocolate. I am putting together a overnight bkast casserole for in the morning. Get up, run 16. Drink Kona coffee in my press pot in memory of my Dad. Read paper, be lazy. Watch the Christmas Story. Mom is coming over at 1pm. Dinner is filets, sweet potatoes, and asparagus. I am sure there will be sugar somewhere in there. :p

DG, did you ever see the whole Magic and Merriment TR? It photo central over there :-)

Not yet. I kept trying to wait until I had some free time, just like trying to catch up here on this thread. I can't believe and apologize for letting things back up so long for me; I'm 9 days behind!!! :scared07:

I was having lots of problems sleeping with terrible headaches every morning that had been getting worse as I experimented with different treatments for sleep apnea. I'm getting a new oral appliance made (and hoping insurance covers it!) but that is probably not going to be done by the dental lab until sometime while we're in WDW.

I had been using a low end oral device for several months, but it was starting to fail and my Dr.'s think I have been really clenching my teeth at night, causing my headaches. That unit wasn't designed to help with that. I broke out my old CPAP and the full face mask was pushing my jaw and giving me pain from that. Felt like I couldn't win. Thursday night I had my BFF drop off my original nasal mask [I loaned it to him when he first got a CPAP and didn't like his nasal pillows since I was using the full face at that time] and slept a LOT better. Not perfectly, but only a slight headache and not exhausted at least.

More later, need to grab some stuff for DW. We're in Normal, IL visitng her relatives for the holidays...

Oh yeh; don't recall if I posted it, but should anyone be interested my sleep study I had at the begining of the month said I have moderate sleep apnea by my RDI with 64 arousals in a little over 4 hours. Sleep efficency only 65% for the 6+ ours I was in bed attempting to sleep. No wonder I was feeling dead so much of the time. O2 sats weren't too bad. Potential problem: my AHI (full apneas, not just arousals caused by respritory difficulty) was under 4, indicating I have no sleep apnea. From what I could found on my Cigna insurance website they cover treatments based on AHI, not nessecarily RDI. So I'm a bit worried about the costs here; my deductible is met so I'll probably either pay nothing or all of it out of pocket, and I've read of some appliances going as high as $3k. Doc says he can get it covered, sure hope he's right!

These sleep and head problems left me being lazy and I have only exercised formally 4 times or so in the past 2 weeks. Another problem; I went to the track last Sunday to try out my new team shirt I had printed up along with the other cloths & shoes I hope weather will permit me to wear for the full. Sadly, my stomache started bothering me after 1 mile or so of intervals. Started walking trying to maintain 16 min pace since that is sweep speed. About 2.5 miles my right ankle started having sharp pains so I stopped and went to the pool to soak a little while. Then Monday my left ankle was yelling once or twice at work. Freaked me out a little. :scared07:

Did some walking on the mill twice after that and things seemed OK for the most part. 2.5 miles of intervals yesterday before we hit the road. I'm planning to head outside tomorrow for a Christmas run, not sure how far. I was also planning to swim sometime today and maybe Monday morning {we're driving home Monday afternoon since E has to work Tuesday}. However, I forgot my swim bag! :oweye: We also decided to pack light and share a single suitcase so I left my spare goggles I normally have in my carry on at home. :boohoohoo:

I do have my swimsuit though, so I might try and buy some goggles someplace locally if the gym or maybe a Walgreens or something has any. I suppose I could also just do approach strokes so I don't loose my contacts...

In the big scheme of things these delemas are minor, and I'll get it pulled together for the Mickey two weeks from tomorrow. Just need to adjust a little more on the fly. I did my 20 miler a few weeks ago with much success, so I know I can overcome and do this!

OK, enough babbeling.

Not sure when people will be on, so:

Merry Christmas eveyone!!!

Cloudnut - thanks for the words about Maui, it does make it a little easier...I think the only real way we would make it work would be if DH's job paid for him to go to the conference as that would cover his flight and most of the hotel costs and car. But we wouldn't know that until June, so can't really plan on it
Roxie - thanks for your wise thoughts and advice. I have been feeling very sour about RunDisney and it has been spoiling Disney as a whole for me, b/c I did so love combining my loves of active challenge, food, and Disney. Like you, there's a reasonable chance that I will come around and have to suck up whatever they do, but not there yet.

Roz- Think of you as family too sis! ;) Our fur kids count plenty, just like yours. Izzy put herself to bed (went into her crate without being told or getting any treats) last night, so we starts searching around to see if she ate something she shouldn't have or anyhting. Doesn't look that way, maybe she just wanted to curl up someplace that smelled like home. She's fine this morning, that's the important thing!

Hope you feel better and yeah, I know what you mean about hurting during taper and the alarm an ache can cause. IT was 34 degrees and sunny here when I woke up so I went out and 3.31 miles of intervals @ 11:47 average pace. Shins grumbled a little (there was a hill right at the sstart between my inlaws house and a nearby exercise trail and my first run interval was going up it of course!) but nothing significant. So I'm feeling pretty good; comforting to have my feet feel good in my planned race day shoes and a clear explanation for why shins, etc. feel like they do.

Don't think I finished describing the other weirdness at the track last week. When I started there was an older guy walking laps in Dockers w/ a T-shirt, black socks, and athletic shoes. The pants seemed odd to me, but whatever. Then I saw 2 people wearing jeans and sweatshirts to walk (and one sometimes running at a fairly good clip) on an indoor track. Huh? All that seemed like the wrong attire to me and left me a bit puzzled. Taking the cake: A guy on an elliptical I might have landed a little funny some slater in a button down long sleeve shirt, kahkiks, leather dress belt, black socks, etc. I think maybe came from church and changed he shoes ONLY when he walked on the gym. Then there was the midget who started vaccuming the track while it was in use. I think his sholders came up to the top of the vaccume cleaner handle. I've seen him working behind the registration desk before, it just seemed kinda' commical around everything else that just seemed slightly out of place that day. The old guy in the t-shirt evidentally finished his walk, and took off his shirt and was starting to towel off on the gym floor. The midget came up and was probably telling him he should use the locker room and that shirts and shoes are required everywhere else in the building. The old gu was fairly tall, about twice his height, and from a distance appeared totally confused despite everyone Ii could see watching him wondering what the heck he was doing. It was all just really weird. Shortly before my ankles started hurting I was about to pass him again (which nessecitated dodging the cod he was trailing) and he moved it right as I was about to cross. I had to sort-of jump to avoid being tripped, and I might have landed a little funny since it was way out of my stride and I was trying to make sure I didn't fall. Since it doesn't seem I have any injury from it I'll call the day a comedy of errors. At the time I was trying to decide where it fell between that or an epic fail... :silly:

2 weeks 'till the full & less for other events; I wish all the Peacocks and their families a great time today and much success in the rappidly approaching new year!!! :thumbsup2:

Thank goodness we did the LR yesterday, cuz' things are slow moving around here. Christmas dinner consisted of 6 bottles of wine between 4 adults. Not to mention the warm up of my mothers wassil with Rum. It ended up being a fun time and everyone got along. Another Christmas miracle! :p

Downgraded the 16 to 14 and just did the last miles hard. Amazingly I just felt like crap all over (crap food night before), but the foot held out. I feel like I can finally breeze after my last LR out of the way. I'll do 10 next Sunday but that will be nice and easy pace.

As for me, my leg seems to be a lot better after the week off. I did 7.5 yesterday (instead of the planned 11 :boohoohoo:) because I didn't want to push it after the week off. Just a little soreness today, nothing awful like what I had before.

Roz- Yeah, this is a nice stretch for me right now:

Last week- worked 4 days (and about an hour Friday from home)
This week- work 0
Next Week- work 3; arrive WDW Friday night Jan 6th! :yahoo:
Week of January 9th- work 0 days
Week starting January 16th- work 4 days

Then actually work 5 day weeks again until Presidents Day; my body might go into shock a few times. :scared07: After that real life sets in further and no time off until April... Honestly I hate burning up so much vacation time in a tight timeframe, but because of use or loose it now and the Mickey falling when they did that is how it goes. Nice while it lasts, but some parts of 2012 will be longggggggggggggggggggggggg! :silly:

nono- Good luck w/ reality!

CN- That's terrible noel got sick; I hope he's better fast but congrats for a good 10k. Glad the leg is improving to boot! :thumbsup2:

Meanwhile, on the team dinner front (http://dvcnews.com/forum/showthread.php?8253-Team-Peacock-WDW-Marathon-2012-Dinner-Party)- mwehttam (Matt) just asked to join us at the party; he's doing the half on Saturday.

Time for me to visit the treadmill. The scale was NOT in a very mood when I weighed myself this morning; up 4 pounds IIRC from when we left for IL on Friday...

4.5 miles done. Shins started grumbling a I did about a 15 min. walk in the middle; when I dropped that from 4 MPH to 3.5 they were happy right away. Therefore I adjusted my speeds going forward to 6 MPH run 3.5 walk and I felt fine going back to 3 min run 1 min walk intervals... :goodvibes:

As for the weather, they were forecasting lots of wind for Sunday. That seems to have changed some thank heavens, I was beginning to think I was cursed. :silly: I can handle high low 70s, just hope it doesn't go past that. Now it does look like I might have some pool time after all for the remaining week. MG, bring your suit!! :biggulp:

On the training front took yesterday and today off. Foot felt off and body blahhh. Will switcharoo running days/off days this week. The hay is mostly in the barn, but a cow keeps coming in and eating it.....

I have been looking forward so much to next weekend for so long. I can't think of a better group of people to be around.
Training has gone well but I am having a nagging calf injury from my 20 miler. It will be better in time for the race though.
Dg thanks for all the planning again for the dinner.

I'm bringing three big wine drinkers on Monday (and Noel, who will likely drink whatever is available or bring the scotch from our OL). I'm looking at the Pinzone's menu now and drooling over the wine...especially that Frank Family Chardonnay and the Witness Tree Pinot Noir (I LOVE everything from the Willamette Valley!) I know whatever you bring will be awesome! And if you have extra, I'll buy it off of you and put it in my luggage (clothes and such can be shipped home!!) It's a shame that the Rozes don't overlap with my sister (she's leaving EARLY saturday) or I would be ordering a case and having her drive it home!

Two things:

1. If we're making requests, I'm a sucker for Russian River Valley Reislings and any lighter reds from that same area.

2. If we're going to have a contest for best pre-race outfit, I may be in contention to win. :p

nono, you can have pre-race outfit honors, but I got a rockin running skirt for Christmas from my MIL. I'm calling it my peacock skirt :-) I still need to do a test run in it, but I'm pretty sure I'm wearing it on Sunday.

So, there's a 5k on the 1st about a block from my house. I'm trying to fight the urge to run it. Trying really hard...

GL in that fight CN; I'm not sure who should win since it may be really difficult not to race the 5k. *IF* you could hold back and do it at a training pace then I vote have fun and do the race.

Rozes- I'd be interested in tiny (< 1oz) tasting pours of whatever you bring since I'm curious but not a wine drinker as you know. However, the big BD party is Monday night Jan. 9th, right? Think there will still be anything going on around 11 PM or perhaps a bit later? DW & I have Le Cellier ADRs at 6:20 PM then I want to watch Illuminations and speedwalk to DHS and ride something before the park closes. Then I'll take the bus back to CR/BLT and would love to say Hi to everyone again but I know at least some of you are morning people! Of course, I might not be able to do my normal post Illuminations routine above after the Mickey; my legs may be getting refurbished for future enjoyment so I might just ask E to push a rented wheelchair back to the monorail and I'd be available much sooner... ;)

I did 45 min. on the ellip today and it all felt good. I think I may try and do the following for the next week and a half:

Thursday 12/29 and Friday 12/30: 4.5 miles on the mill
Sat. 12/31: 45 min. ellip
Sunday Jan 1st: Start the year with 9 miles either mill or outside depending on the weather
Mon 1/2: swim 1800 yards
Tue 1/3: 4.5 miles mill
Wed 1/4: 45 min. ellip
Thur 1/5: 4.5 miles mill
Fri 1/6: 45 min. ellip
Saturday 1/7: No formal exercise, but walk ~5 to 10 miles @ WDW
Sunday Jan. 8th: 26.2 miles after a warm-up walk to the start from Epcot's monorail station. :rotfl2:

DG, I would take it easy as possible on Sat. Your first marathon you really want to go in with as much fresh legs as possible. I think it's still possible to do a lot, see a lot, but not overdo it. I know I am going to watch the HM, then chill out rest of day at BLT. Maybe walk over to MK and ride BTMRR since it's going into rehab early in trip. Never fear though, it's best to walk as MUCH as possible after the marathon. It is going to hurt like heck, but the more you walk the better you will feel. Still time to do stuff! That is why it's hard to do park touring with marathon weekend--something always has to give it seems. Just some friendly sisterly advice. :p

I'm wearing mine too! Probably both days. I just ran six in the them and wow what a difference!! I will likely have to use more moleskin than with regular socks, but that's not that big of a deal!!

I hope the translation on "watch the half" is watch Beth and MM, and then wait with Beth while Noel finishes. I'm thinking he's going to come in around 3 hours. He's finally eating again, which is a really good thing. I'm going to be so proud of him when he crosses that line! I just asked him when he was going to be doing his olympic distance triathalon, and if looks could kill, well, I would be double dead right now.

DG, I would take it easy as possible on Sat.

Uhh, that's why I only expected to walk 5 to 10 miles; normally I do 9 to 13 miles daily each full day I'm at WDW! Part of why I excuse myself from formal exercise while at the Mouse House...

I'm also planning to try and ride BTMRR & Dumbo on Saturday since they will both be going down on the 9th; permanently in the current version of Dumbo's case.

I don't know what to do for the 2 days leading up to the full regarding scheduling. My flight is currently shceduled to arrive in MCO at 8:19 PM Friday Jan. 6th. I'm a night owl and am trying to decide if I should attempt to sleep in Saturday morning (no alarm clock) knowing I won't get a lot of sleep Saturday night or wake up early enough for MK rope drop in hopes that if I get up early I'll be able to fall asleep early. I think that is a pipe dream and that the sleep in concept might be more successful... :silly: So, this was a potential Saturday schedule:

Option 1:

Magic Kingdom for 9 AM rope drop (try and get up early to hypothetically help me sleep later…)
Be sure to ride Dumbo & BTMRR before they close for refurb on the 9th!
Go through Swiss Family Treehouse since it was being refurbed during Sept. 2010 trip

Option 2: Sleep in as late as I can [no alarm clock] and do the above MK items on Sunday sometime after the Marathon?

Head to ESPN and do race packet pickup
Hop to Epcot
Via Napoli @ 3:10 PM
Hop to DHS
Fantasmic! @ 6:30 PM
Check out the Osborn lights
Hop to MK
Check out the castle dreamlights
Watch Wishes @ 9 PM (maybe from my room, but most likely the hub)
Try and fall asleep EARLY (by my standards ;)) - be in bed by 10 or 10:30 PM?

I'm curious and would love to hear from anyone else out there who normally is NOT a morning person has tips or plans for how they are going to drag themselves out of bed to get to the start of their respective races! :listen:

Normally I close down the parks. Yesterday my brother was having computer problems and I didn't make it to bed until 5 AM. On my "game nights" I normally don't have my head hit the pillow until 2 AM, sometimes 3 or later. The 5:30 start and needing to catch a monorail from BLT 2 hours before that has me a bit worried...

As for Sunday, I can make no promises of how long I can hang to see everyone come in. We all know my history by now... I really really want to see everyone though.

What mile is the TTC/Poly again? I am thinking of doing the TTC Poly walk. Then hop on over to the monorail. We will hopefully make it back to the Tent before the first runner comes in.

DG, are you smoking the friendly dragon up there? :silly:

Seriously, you need to be OFF your feet by no later than 8pm. Even if you stay awake all night, it will be better for your body. There was a survey once on ROTE will several pages of responses on "What would you do differently on marathon weekend" and almost 99% of people said they would never again attempt to do a lot of park time before the race.

Not trying to scare you brother, but a marathon is a big deal. A lot different than a 20 miler. I want you to be successful out there!!! You have worked hard for this, it's time! :hug1:

I don't want to miss Fantasmic! or the Osborn lights and Saturday is the only day of the trip I can see them. When we went for Christmas in 2009 the night I tried to see the lights they weren't running due to the rain. I was really disappointed to say the least, and rain in FL is a given, so the explanation didn't make a ton of sense to me...

Maybe I'll pass on heading into MK at all on Saturday and try and watch Wishes form our room since it is a MK view, and then attempt to sleep. I just don't know if I'll be able to! :silly: I'll probably head back to the room and take a nice long nap sometime after the full and before dinner. Hopefully I could then see the Castle Dreamlights on Sunday night after our team dinner; the park is open until 11 PM thanks to EMH...

DG, maybe this will make more sense. You are going to ask your body to do something really incredible but also something very very hard on Sunday. Be kind to it! Baby it. Most marathon weekend veterans will say that the weekend is shot for park touring, and really the Disney park stuff begins at the finish line. I like to squeeze simple stuff in, like a hour at park at most just to keep blood circulating. But you know your body better than the rest of us, so just follow your best judgment. Remember there is countless of other trips, but only one first marathon. :thumbsup2:

As for Osbourne Lights, the lights are still up, but don't they quit the "show" after the New Year? You probably know more about the dates than I do. I just found out last night about Big Thunder LOL! :p

Yay - so excited
I am flying in on Friday and staying at Kidani. I don't get in until 3pm or so, so not at Kidani til prob around 4:30. So, Roz, I'll miss you and Mr. Roz for the expo, but would be psyched to join you to watch the half the next morning and cheer on CN and crew. Is there a way to connect up? How early would it be? I don't have any commitments on Saturday except around 3pm or so, when I need to meet up with my relay partner.
Another question, with the warmer temps, do you think it's okay to wear my CWX stabilyx tights? They are 3/4 length. I'd like to as they seem to help my knees and I've been struggling with left knee pain around mile 7 and on and would love to avoid that if possible. But I'm worried that they will be too hot. Roz, CN - you have experience with these tights, will it be too hot?
If so, then I'll likely be rockin' my hot pink cep tights too. If I can wear my tights, I'll wear my black socks with the tights.
I'm running the first half of the relay, so it will be the cooler part

I'll PM you with my cell. We can meet up at TTC early, that would require you leaving the resort early though. It's cool though to do the TTC, then walk to POLY, watch them again, then hop monorail back. I need to get everyone signed up for tracking. Or you can meet us at the P tent to see everyone after the race.

As for the tights, if they really help your knee pain, I say wear them. Especially since you are on the first leg. You won't be out there too long and if anything it will help you mentally. I wore some stabilyx 3/4 for NOLA a few years ago, the full. It was just 40s and warmed up to high 60s and I was just fine. Did wear just a singlet though and throw away gloves. I was having major hip issues and it helped me mentally (and probably physically) to have confidence to run my race.

Speaking of running, I had the most horrible foot pain this morning. Again, on my toe like last week. That would be my luck to have a stress fx. :covermouth:

cloudnut220

cyl-e, do you run hot? I do, and I was burning up last year in tights and a long sleeve heat gear shirt. So maybe wear them and a singlet? Most of your running will likely be before the sun comes up, so it won't get THAT hot.

Roz, we do not say the word STRESS FRACTURE :silly: (since that's what the KT tape website says my leg pain could be, although I truly believe it feels like muscle pain since it hurts with certain flexes, goes away after warm up, etc) Especially not the week before the marathon and when I convince myself I CAN run a full in March!!

4.5 miles on mill today. Felt good; did 2.5 minutes running @ 6 MPH to 1 min. walking at 3.6 after warming up to it.

I was wlaking around Home Depot tonight w/ DW (pre-shopping for getting those new floors she wants that I keep mentioning ; I suppose our carpet in many areas is pretty well worn... ;)) and my feet, especially right one, just do NOT feel right in my New Blance 606 shoes I got 2 weeks ago. Felt great in the store but started bothering me in the car driving down to IL. I think I'm going to swap to some Sacony shoes I bought for running but only used for 1 short TM trial so far. I love it! :rotfl2:

So for Saturday the 7th:

I need to do packet pickup!
We have ADRs @ Via Napoli at 3:10 PM; I need to eat at some point so plan to keep that- I usually have pizza or pasta the night before a long run and that works well for me. I adjusted to an early dinner since the full starts way earlier than I normally do training runs...
I really want to see Osborne Lights since they are running through the 7th and I missed them last year.
I'd like to see Fantasmic! since it is my favorite nighttime show and will go on refurb Jan. 9th, so Saturday is the only time this trip I can do either of those.

Does doing only those 4 things (plus some breakfast in our room or at CR) and then heading back to the room straight from DHS seem reasonable or is that still likely to be too much? :confused24: No regular attractions, and I'll take friendship boats from IG to DHS and find someplace to sit while waiting for Fantasmic!. I'll do breakfast in our room or over at CR, and maybe have some popcorn [hasn't bothered me the night before training runs] and watch Wishes from our balcony (seated) if at all. :silly:

Finally the transportation questions I feel silly asking- How do you recommend getting to the Expo from BLT and then heading to World Showcase after it? How much time should I allow round trip? Since we won't have a car should I just break down and pay for a cab? I would probably have it take us to Beach Club post Expo to minimize walking to Italy. ;)

Wowser Mr Roz!! I saw the 2 cases of wine by the front door but you didn't tell me there was Seasmoke and a Ramey Claret in there. Very impressed too by your small collection of 07's. Nice work! (inside info: this was a special hand selected order by Mr Roz and our wine dealer. The only way we can afford great wine, buying it at cost!) I just hope I can be trusted with Ramey and Seasmoke in the house. :p Another special surprise in store for dessert, but I'll let that stay a mystery for now.

Foot felt better this morning. Cut run short again just in case. Hanging on by threads down here! :fingerscrossed:

Great blog Beth!
Those Mickey buns sound so yummy.

Speed workout today was successful! Feeling good overall (albeit slightly heavier given all of the good eating done over the holidays). I'm not really tapering for the upcoming weekend as my primary race is the Tinkerbell Half near the end of January. I'm going to try to frontload my running this coming week - so that I do go into the relay with several days rest.

On a different note - RunDisney has restored my faith in them and Disney!! Yay! Apparently - DH got a call from them this morning (I'm at work) and they will make an exception and award him his C2C at Tinkerbell (he'll have done the C2C in 12 months rather than a calendar year). We are very grateful and excited (and now DH needs to finish the Tinkerbell - he hasn't been training much because of the suspected beginnings of a stress fracture in his foot that he doesn't want to aggravate during his competitive curling time). Plus - we found a great half to do in October up in Niagara Falls (near DH's family). We may even be able to convince several of them to join us either by running or walking it. So our current plan for next fall is to do the Niagara Int'l Half and then fly directly from there to WDW to enjoy Food & Wine for a week. While not quite as perfect as past years - it has its own benefits - like having fans and potentially family/friends run/walk with us. Plus the course is flat and fast. And it allows us to check out Food & Wine at a different time of the festival than previous years - so that's cool too. Sorry for being so down before - I was really disappointed by the date change and by RunDisney's initial responses (or lack thereof) - and it was augmented by pms (really have had dramatic mood issues recently that seem to happen like clockwork...). Maybe that's tmi.

Ok - have a wonderful New Year's celebration everyone! Can't wait to meet all of you in person.

Roz - I will definitely get up early and meet you at TTC on Saturday to cheer Beth on. I figure the early morning thing is just prep for Sunday - so no problem.

Well if I've ever had a disaster run, it was this morning. I thought my stiffness had worn off, then about 2 miles in the pain set in BAD. I made it about a half mile before I turned around and walked home. It's too close to the race to push through it. I had two pretty good runs on monday and wednesday, then this. I'm not sure where this leaves me...do I just rest a week and then try my best next weekend, or scrap the whole thing? A whole year's worth of training for nothing.

I did read an article somewhere talking about how all runners (think the article was about elite runners) seem to get ailments/injuries right before big runs - so part of it may be your mind/body going through its pre-run jitters. I don't know much more than that - so am not of much help. Rest sounds like a smart idea and fits right in with a taper.

cyl-e, I'm glad RD made it better. and I totally understand about the emotions...I'm like a wreck right now and I don't even have your excuse. Poor Noel having to put up with crazy me. I can't even imagine what I'll be like when I'm pregnant one day.

This is SO NOT my day. A neighbor just knocked on my door...they caught some little punk kids trying to break into my car. So I just had a fun visit with a very nice police officer. Then some other neighbors came over and started complaining about how "bad" our street is (trust me, our street isn't "bad". no one is dealing drugs, no one is shooting, just a few cars have been broken into, and there is always an uptick of that around the holidays) and then they started calling Baltimore a sh--hole, so I end up defending the city to them. Don't get me wrong, I know Baltimore has problems, I'm not wearing rose colored glasses. But it's still my home. Where I'm from.

Beth, come sit by me. I am a nervous wreck! I spent 2 days this week thinking I was a DNS with a stress fx. Pain went away today, and will probably be back before the race gets here. I will have a good day, then a very bad day and limp home. But Cyle is right, a lot of this is taper. I have read time and time again that its rare to feel great in a taper. I just wish I could run more now, but know in my mind that the time for pushing hard is past. It's frustrating as you want to train and cram stuff in. I try to explain it to non-runners as studying for a big exam for 6 months then the week before the test someone tells you that it's been for nothing. You want to prove to yourself that the hard work has paid off. I think that is why I get so dern chained to hard arse race goals. I work my butt off, get up in the middle of the night--now I want to see the hard work pay off. The reality is that "any given Sunday" we can have a great race, or a bad race. Sometimes you go into a race feeling great and have a bad race. Lots of times you go into the race with a bad taper and you have a great race. I guess I say all of this to say that don't let how you feel today dictate how you will feel next weekend. Try to stay positive! In the mean time, laugh with me. Its healing! I love this poem. I am kinda uh, famous at my sports docs to how OCD I become before a big race. I think you might enjoy the poem too. I think I have posted it here before. As for the neighbors, I live in suburbia USA and our cars get broken into. It happens anywhere! People just love to biaatch.

'I cannot run again today,'
Said little Betty Ann Bengay.
'My quads are cramped.
My nerves are shot.
I think I might have purple snot.
My arch is pulled.
My glutes are sore.
My back it doesn’t bend no more.
My feet they have this awful smell.
I have another black toenail.
My elbow aches each time I pee.
And what’s that grinding in my knee?
I have a stress fracture. In my skull.
My friends, they say, I’m full of bull.
I think I may have pulled a lung.
Eleven miles ain’t a REAL long run!
My legs they are no longer speedy.
My husband thinks I’m really needy.
If I run more will I get faster?
Will micro-tears just cause disaster?
I think that I should carbo-load.
Uh oh. No way. Where’s the commode?
My glycogen is kinda spent.
I know my shin, it needs a splint.
My singlet smells like something funky.
And don’t you think my butt looks chunky?
My IT band no longer bends.
When will this taper ever end?
My hamstrings hurt and--what?
What’s that you say?
You say today is...marathon day?
G'bye. I’m going out to run.'

Cyl- Congrats on the medal info!

Tried the Sacony's on a quick jaunt out to look at flooring products at an end of year sale. Result: Feet hurt, right new twinged, and right hip also unhappy. Normally it is my left ITB I have issues with! :oweye: Sooooo, I'm sitting with you too Roz & CN, but only because my feet keep hurting in casual general walking around shoes! WALKING? WTF???? Two different pairs of new shoes that felt fine when I first tired them on and now not so much. Even in my running shoes on the mill (that have 90ish miles on one and ~250 on the other that I alternate) my shins are OK during run intervals, but were bothering me if I go above 3.6 MPH on the walking ones (as opposed to my usual 4). I don't get it. I'm going back to the 4 or 5 month old New Balances I wore to WDW in Sept. for casual use this next week and for the trip...

My mom thinks I'll be good with my latest "4 item out of the room" Saturday plan as well. Ding-ding-ding, hope I have a winner.

CN- Sorry to hear about your day. :boohoohoo: I'm confident you'll be fine if you rest now! :hug1:

Can we call at least one of my current taper problems self-sabotage? Two days ago, I actually dropped my heavy laptop on my shin!!!! :oweye::covermouth::blush::boohoohoo: I am such a damn klutz. Fortunately, no bones broken although it sure felt like it at the time. I iced immediately and that helped bruising but it feels very bruised nonetheless.

My other bigger problem is that I am sick again!! That makes about four weeks of sickness out of the last 5.5 weeks! Can I please come sit by y'all too even though I've been missing for awhile? Been sick since last Sunday :( with aches and pains galore.

Cyl-e, I have a DNS from April 2011, the Talladega Half! I wish I had even just walked it because it really felt bad to sit it out! It is one of my biggest regrets ever! I guess I will remind myself of that if I am tempted to give up before this race begins!

I hope all of the commented upon issues that everyone is having all feel better very soon. I will head to the doc before we leave town if I am not better this weekend...

Enjoyed your Parisian food blog, CN, very nice and yummy sounding!

Mr. Roz, I am not very knowledgeable regarding wines but I am very happy with any reds you bring  It sounds like Pinot Noir is one of your faves too!

Oh by the way, I hope all of you had a Merry Christmas and have a happy and safe Happy New Year's Eve today!!

Lisa, of course come sit with us! I can't believe you are SICK AGAIN! Ughh! That stinks. I hope your shin is better too. I am so clumsy I feel like I need to body wrap myself in bubble wrap leading up to a race.

Well foot pain is back. Yesterday felt great, today during last mile it struck again. I am a WTF loss. It's so hard to know what to do. Some days I can't run through it, and today I could have run through it and held pace but chose to immediately walk when it came. I just keep telling myself, what's most important is I am going on vacation. I get to see all my friends, Mulan, and celebrate Scott's bday. There just happens to be a race next weekend....that I've put a great amount of blood sweat and tears into, but who's counting...

Nono, how is your foot doing? :listen:

:hug1:Roz and Lisa!

No pain in the leg walking around today. None jumping. A tiny bit going up and down stairs. Went to body pump this morning, the only time it bothered we was during the lunge track (it was a hard track and I just couldn't lunge on that leg for 90 secs straight.)

I'm taking a bit of a break from all of the NYE party prep around here. We're having a sit down dinner again this year which I LOVE! We're brining a pork loin, doing roast veggies and making ball drop cupcakes (which are going to be SO CUTE!). Our friend Tony is using the F&W cookbook to make Escargot en Brioche and others are bringing other sides and such. It should be wonderful :-)

Well I know I haven't been around since probably AC but I'm looking forward to seeing most of you next week! For the first time marathoners, how's the taper going? I'm excited that I really have no expectations about these races as it means for the first time I'm not going crazy during taper. I'm even taking off running from here to race because of knee pain that started right after finishing my last LR before taper--and I really don't care! This is the way racing is meant to be.

I haven't reviewed anyone's goals for 2012 and I need to go back and look at how well I did in 2011, but I think my goal this coming year is just to go with the flow. I like this lower stress running. I think I want to maintain a base of at least 20 miles/week so if I decide last minute to enter a race (even up to a half) I can. I will say I have enjoyed that much of marathon training: I'm trained up to do other races. I think this year I'd like to grow more as a person: be more patient and joyful among other things.

Well, Happy New Year Peacocks!!! See everyone soon!

So ran home, changed, and played restaurant worker for several long hours. The wine dinner went great. Just was annoyed by all the drunk people. Probably because I was not one of them!! I have no idea how working so much on my sore foot is going to be for my LR tomorrow. Oh well, some things are more important.

I am afraid to look at my 2011 goals. I know there was at least one pie in the sky I did not reach.

Still haven't decided on a LR today. Mr. Roz is dead to the world, the victim of a 19 hour shift yesterday. I am off tomorrow and think I may just head out for a mile or two test then try tomorrow. The foot pain went into my heel at work last night and that has really scared me. Plantar is not something that goes away with RICE. Surprisingly only my arch was tight this morning and after the tennis ball tortue test it feels okay. That's the thing. I usually feels fine until about mile 5. Only 21.2 leaves a question!! So what the heck is this foot thing? :confused24: o

As for 2012 goals, I need to go investigate my 11' goals. I know one thing 2012 will not have, a marathon!! :p

I have some sad news to report. Robert and Linda Mathis were killed out on a run this morning in CA by a drunk driver. Many people knew Robert as UltraMM. He was a member on DVCNews, but will best be remembered for starting the online community of Disney Running that then branched into ROTE. I met him several times and while some may had left DR on not so fun terms I never lost my warm regards to him. Scott and I sat with him and Linda one night at Big River on the BW for several hours, just the 4 of us talking about running and such. We were just starting out running and they were very instrumental in encouraging us to take our Disney racing to another level. They were a hoot to talk to, and both loved life very very much. All I could think when I heard the news was at least they went together, I can't imagine them apart from one another.

Stay safe friends, but most important, live your life with no regrets. While it's smart to plan for tomorrow, tomorrow is not promised to any of us.

RIP Robert and Linda.

It's a difficult thing to take in. I know you and I have both have dealt with loss this year and it seems to open up another layer of sadness for me. It's weird how random loss can make my own specific loss very fresh.

I did learn on FB they were supposed to leave yesterday for Disney where they were going to spend a entire month.

I did really freak out, DG, when I saw your father's shoes! He really is a Marathon or at least Running Maniac!!!!!!!

Yeah, the hole in the sole was particularly interesting. At least he doesn't run in those anymore and only keeps them for sentimental seasons and to compare shoes to as a visual reference... He was telling me that the weather looked pretty good for this weekend and I should be glad; the year it hit over 90 during the Port Clinton Marathon he finished in 3:22 and was 13th overall, when less than a month before it he did a 2:50 and the month after he did a 2:42. (Or something like that!) His sub-16 minute 5ks and other stats [like marathon times that look to me like something I'd be fairly happy with for a half!] just make me sick ever since I actually started running myself; as a little kid that was just his time and since we'd typically leave the finish area shortly after he came in I never truly appreciated how many at least partially mortal people were coming in after him! :scared07: He was saying my goal should be to beat my mom's 4:24 for the 1 and only full marathon she ever did; I'll be (happily) surprised if I break 5 hours the way things have been going lately, but we'll see what happens on race day!

Roz, that's heartbreaking about the couple. I always try to remember that we don't have all the time in the world. I guess that's how Noel and I justify all the traveling we do--we just hear so many stories of people who say they'll do it one day or when they retire...and then one day never comes.

DG, as for the football, it's a VERY BIG DEAL! The Ravens one the AFC North, which means we have a bye in the first round of the playoffs (which are next weekend) and at least one home field game MLK day weekend. We've been a little shaky on the road this year, so the home field advantage is a big deal. And if we hadn't won, we would still be in the playoffs, but we would be playing next weekend, which means Sunday afternoon, after finishing the relay we would have needed to find a place to watch the game. Not really ideal.

Just put my name in the lottery for the New York City Marathon. It's one of my life goals to run it one day. I don't have high hopes of getting in through the lottery, so I'm guessing my backup marathon plan will be either Richmond or Philly. My big resolution for 2012 is to run a marathon sometime this year, because in 2013 we hope to expand our family :D;);) which means marathon training will likely be out of the question for a few years. Not all running, but a marathon is a big commitment!

As for next weekend. I think my goals are:

silver: finish with a minimal amount of pain. walking is okay.
gold: finish both races faster than my WDW half last year, which was 2.20.20. So that would mean an overall time of 4.40 for both races.
platinum: finish both races under 2.15, or with a combined time of 4.30.

CN- GL w/ the lottery!

Woke up and a bad headache started forming almost immediately, ohhh brother. I really hope that doesn't happen on race day!!! It is finally starting to break. I'm going to head to the pool shortly but do NOT plan to use fins; they increase ankle and shin workload / stress and I don't want to push my legs AT ALL this week! :silly:

For the rest of this week I'm thinking:

30 minutes + ~3 min cool down on mill Tuesday & Thursday
32 minutes (plus 1.5 cool down) on elliptical Wednesday & Friday
Saturday = Just the walking I do on my limited expo / park schedule...
Sunday: Uhhh, 26.2 anyone?

Rozzie
01-02-2012, 02:56 PM
Okay, before I back out.

Bronze: Just Finish. (I haven't used this for a goal for a very looong time, and hope not to use it again for a very looong time)

Silver: Sub 4:30.

Gold: Sub 4:00.

To say my goals have changed dramatically in the last 2 weeks is a grand understatement. :(

DisneyGeek
01-02-2012, 07:19 PM
Roz- The goals sound reasonable to me! Add about an hour to the times and maybe I'll use 'em too. ;)

I did 1000 yards at the pool before dinner, taking things fairly easy (as planned). DW made some baked sauerkraut balls; they were tasty and a LOT healthy than their traditional deep fried counterparts. :eating:

I also computer my 2011 running stats:

Outside & track miles: 293.49
Treadmill miles: 460

Grand Total: 753.49

2010 approximate total miles: 506.14

So I did about 247 more miles (an increase of over 48%) in the year that just ended. Not too bad... :thumbsup2:

It's in the 20s here but I miss my running so much I had all my winter gear laid out just "in case" last night. This is the least amount of running I have done in almost a year, and I am going BATTY! :silly:

cloudnut220

So my other running resolutions for the year (other than the marathon) are to keep chasing that 2 hour half and to actually TRACK MY MILES!! I'm guessing I ran somewhere just south of a 1,000 this year, but I have no actual idea since I'm SO BAD at tracking!

So when is everyone arriving? 24 hours from now I'll be on the ground in Florida and on my way to IOA.

WTG Roz on following the plan! I'm suddenly having what I hope is some phantom pain in my left foot. WTF?

Rozzie

We arrive sometime around midnight Thursday. Leaving after work.

Good thoughts on the foot Beth!

I couldn't find my goals from last year and since I can't remember them its safe to say I didn't meet any.
So out with the old in with the new right? Anyway goals for 12
RUN 2000 miles
PR 5k,10k and half
Learn piano
read 6 classic novels
Can't wait until this weekend. Safe traveling everyone.

The resutls are in! Flexor Halllicus strain. At least there is a name to it now. Doc says it's not severe, but I need to think about the potential harm in the race. He thinks I should still do the race, and if the pain gets above a certain level then slow down. All I will be doing is delaying healing in doing the race. I don't have another big marathon for a year, so I'm in. He says to still run in my taper week, that if I have been doing 50 miles a week that 2-3 miles is not going to help me nor hurt me physically a great deal--but it will help me mentally. He said I have reached a all time high of freaking out. :silly: It did ultrasound today, and more ultrasound tomorrow. Keeping massage appt. He thinks a very tight calf triggered it.

It's a rare running injury, but a big common injury among professional ballet dancers. (WTF?) :p

Boooooo on the injury! The name doesn't make it any better.

I'm going back and forth over here. Can't decide mentally if I'm going to be able to do this or not. One minute I'm all rah-rah, the next I'm ready to quit and just drink all weekend.

Carlos just dropped off our shirts for Sunday...

MrR- Will those be the same 6 classics as your wife, and if so, do you buy one copy and hand it down after reading it or do you read the title simultaneously to foster book discussions in near real time?

Roz- Were you doing much dancing with that unnamed guy you married?

CN- The link didn't work for me to the shirts, but I think you'll be fine on race days. Don't give up! Walk maybe, but don't give up!!! :hug1:

DG, we'll read then have discussions. :thumbsup2:

Beth I hear ya'. I broke down and started crying this morning. Woke up to run (Dr's orders!) and my foot was killing me, probably the worst it's felt. In my mind I knew not to be surprised with all the work I had done on it yesterday but it still is really getting me down. We will try to stay upbeat! Have a safe trip down this morning. Jealous I am!!!

Nono, are you still alive? :listen:

Yes, and my family is lucky they are. Less than stellar week so far here in WDW. Attitude problems in the family. Today my MIL arrives. I'm actually looking forward to seeing her! (That should frame out how the week has been going). 28 F temps this morning aren't helping us get going. Gonna wake up dd now because she wants to get a run in. See everyone soon!

Yuck, freezing in WDW! :covermouth:

So sorry to hear about the strain, Rozzie. :oweye:

I know the feeling about chucking it all, CN, although I am pretty sure none of us will.:silly:

My doc says bronchitis and gave me a Z Pac. He says my tonsil is healing and I sure hope he is right. He wrote in my chart that my tonsillar abscess is resolving...

We leave late this afternoon and will stay overnight somewhere along the way so that we arrive about lunch tomorrow :D already got an email reminding us of our first ressie! Did all of you do online check-in? I haven't this time - is it a bad idea not to?

Roz & nono- Sorry things aren't going well of late. :(

Lisas- I hope the Z works!

CN- I'm jelous... Only 1.5 work days left for me at least.

Did 32 min ellip this morning. Right ear hurts a bit currently, probably sinus related. Really lousy headache & slept terribly Monday night so I took Tuesday off from exercise. Thankfully I slept much better last night!

See everyone soon!

BTW, we got a 4th entree choice on the menu for Sunday night less than an hour ago- Fish & Chips. Not my think, but they say its popular... ;)

MG, you are going to be just fine!! You and DG I think are the only healthy ones out of this whole bunch. See ya tonight!! (I love saying that!)

Had another ultrasound treatment yesterday and hoping to fit one more in before we leave today. I haven't run since Monday, my longest layoff since post Goofy last year. I say right now I am 50/50. Had more swelling and pain yesterday, but my massage girl did some, uh alternative therapy on it and I am believing in it. Heck, hand over the crystals, mantras, positive energy flow treatments, music therapy and everything else I used to think was a little too new agey hippy. (yes Nono, can you believe I thought someone was too hippy?)

Cyle, I PMd you here and FB with my cells. I hope you got them! Can't wait to meet you!!

Greetings from a very cold WDW! I wore my down jacket ALL DAY yesterday at IOA. Had a super fun day with my sister and her fiance, although we discovered that a cold day is a very bad day to do IOA. Since so many of the rides are water rides, when it's cold it really takes the capacity down. So even in the afternoon the line for Forbidden Journey was listed at 90 minutes. We sucked it up and got in line, and then the ride went down TWICE so we ended up waiting something like 2 1/2 hours. At the point the ride went down, we had already invested so much time we didn't want to leave. Sad thing is we were in line so long I could feel myself getting really hungry which is a guarantee for motion sickness for me, so I didn't ride. Then we lost our car in the parking lot, and I fell, which made the foot feel not so good. I can't figure out what is going on there...

Excited to see everyone!

CN - sorry to hear your day at IOA wasn't that great. it's on our list of things to do - to get over to see the Harry Potter land

I'm jealous of all of you down there already - I don't leave until mid-day tomorrow.

This has kind of crept up on me - I think I may have been taking the whole "run a half-marathon" pretty lightly - need to get a little more focused on food, what I'll wear, etc.

I'm really glad that i'll have you folks there - I haven't done a trip to the world solo before - so it will be a new adventure! I'm looking forward to meeting you all.

I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed that all of the injuries are just taper-stress-related and will subside for you all to have great marathons and half-marathons.

Roz- Hope the hippy stuff works; maybe you should try and stick your foot in the Hippy Dippy pool @ POP...

CN- That is the dark side for ya'! ;)

Cyl- Hope u enjoy going solo & we'll see you soon.

So how many of us are staying @ BLT?

Plan to wash some clothes (including new Team shirt & race trunks) tonight & start packing- scheduled take off is in 30 hours 19 minutes & change, but who's counting? :silly:

Just sat down to see war horse at dtd. The temptation to park hop was too great and I currently don't have access to a room (no key at akl and room isn't ready at Blt) and o stupidly checked my book! So a nice long movie it is! Im actually in the dine in theatre but none of the food seems very appealing (think applebees)

Does the horse die?

On the road about to make turn South. I think John can testify the panhandle of FL goes on for 5000 miles. Oh I miss the days when we were FL residents..

So we got 2 cases of wine, bottle of vodka, bottle of. Baileys, peppermint mocha Kahlua, airplane bottles for the parks, bloody Mary mix, 15 wine glasses, and a wine key. Beer to buy @ WF, we love the local microbrews.

Yep, the Rozzies are officially on vacation.

So, our lake view ended up including a full view of the fireworks too, wow! Getting ready to go watch with the music playing on TV! I am still trying to feel better so I am very nervous overall. We ran into Carrie, Scott and her parents at Kona tonight. That was cool! Wish I had seen more Peacocks!

E & I are settled in to BLT. I've started a TR thread, and can't wait to start seeing the team soon! I understand there is a meetup to cheer on those in the half tomorrow @ 6; if I'm awake I may try and join in but I originally was planning on trying to get as much sleep as a I can tonight since I know I won't sleep a lot tomorrow due to schedule and NERVES! ;) Then again, I could always wake up, cheer :cheerleader:, then come back to the room and crash for a few more hours... :scratchchin:

It was great to cheer on our Peacocks, Beth, Amanda, and Noel this morning for the Half! We kept our eyes peeled for Carrie and Scott.. Tracking showed them at a nice pace but we didnit find them... We are meeting at the orange striped tent tomorrow for our races 😃 see you all there!

Sorry I wasn't there to watch, but it was closing in on 1 AM before we got our luggage and I didn't actually fall asleep until close to 3 AM. i don't do well on 3 hrs sleep... We are on an event bus to the Expo now so I can do packet pickup & E get her ChEAR Squad stuff. :)

Expo pickup done; I'm on a bus from ESPN heading to Via Napoli via Beach Club. DW will meet me there; she went back to the room after signing for her wristband; we both forgot to make our meds & vitamens this morning- OOOOP! :oweeye: They ran out of ChEAR Squad clappers for her though. :( I went back and signed DW up to get some mailed 2 her. Kinda' ticked since we bought them IN MARCH but what can you do?

On the positive side, I met Jeff Gallaway and got his autograph & my picture taken w/ him. :) He thinks I should run 1 min walk 1 for the first 18 miles then go to run 2 walk 1 if I feel up to it @ the end. I've done all sorts of different interals in training depending on the day, and I really like that suggestion so that is my current goal. Another goal should be easy to incorporate; since I finished my first half faster than my dad did his best full, I want to finish my first full faster than my dad's 6:57 he pulled for a 50 mile ultra. That'll keep me in the "half as fast as my dad" barn at least! ;)

Another plus- registered for the DL Half here and got a free Coast to Coast bag! I also bought a "stick" massager for tomorrow (hendging my bets), a polo shirt, 2 t-shirts, and 2 magnets for me + a third as a gift. E leaving me in Expo alone was expensive!!!

Nice meeting up with you today cyl-e! And, first crisis averted -- caught that my alarm was set for M-F -- which meant it would not have gone off tomorrow morning! :scared07:

Dinner is done. My kids are singing Alvin & the Chipmunks Christmas songs. Somehow, I don't think I'll mind spending a few hours away from everyone on the course tomorrow. Folks, they are going to try to cheer from DHS, probably the NY street area. Good rests to all!

Cycle, it was great to have you over!!!! Don't be a silly goose!

Boys are watching Saints game, I am tucked away watching my girl Mulan on laptop. Will be so happy to have us all together showing off our medals @ RR. We will all get through this, one way or another.

As for me, I will go forward with ease and joy.
