I am planning to come to the P tent! Are we still doing that at 4.30? Or earlier because of the need to be in corral by 5?
Um and I feel awkward asking this, but is the last chance to hit the port o pot before you go in the corral? I really don't want to stop once I get going on the course!
MM thanks for the tip on the cameras, didn't even think of that! Maybe I should go to Walmart...

For the princess there was a row at the chute. The drop off is about a mile from the start.

There are lots of potties at the tents. There are also rows along the long walk to the start. Potties are an important thing to know.

Not drugs but sleep deprivation. In all seriousness I really think it was Deb. At least she looked like Deb
and had an allears shirt on. The Santa guy was just incidental.

so what is everyone wearing tomorrow? i'm waffling on cwx pants vs capris, long sleeve shirt with short sleeves underneath, or just long sleeve heat gear. I'm worried about how fast the warm up is going to happen.
I'm sorry for all the posts...I'm nervous and bored. Dangerous combination!

You're asking important questions so don't apologize. I would basically say wear whatever you've been training in for mid 40 to 50s weather. I freeze so I will have my compression socks lined tights long sleeved running shirt (but it's for hot weather) short sleeved running shirt Brooks running jacket gloves and earwarmers. Today over all that I also had a fleece jacket but I think it will be too much for 13.1 miles. Roz will probably be in shorts and a tank :D

MM, Well done on the 5k this morn!:goodvibes: I knew they weren't timed, sweetie, kids do them too, right?
I'm sure it was Deb from allears, she is there for the marathon.
Hey, Roz, if you see this-what was the name of the Ethiopian beer?
MatterhornMiss
01-07-2011, 06:19 AM
But then it looks like it is going to be 10 degrees warmer tomorrow at race start so I may lose the long sleeved shirt. If you can get one of those big trash bags they can help keep you warm while you're waiting to start sin you'll have to check your bag way before race start.

I have an old fleece of Noel's that I'm going to wear to keep me warm until the start. He has no expectations of seeing it again, so I'll chuck it. I also am bringing my Baltimore marathon gloves (they were the cheap giveaways) so I can chuck those when/if my hands get hot. So I think i'll go with cwx pants, heat gear long sleeve, head band (to keep my ears warm), gloves and the disposable fleece. I would normally not wear long pants for a run in the upper 40s to 50s, but with the tib, I need all the support I can get!
MatterhornMiss
01-07-2011, 07:06 AM
It looks like race start should be 50 degrees. It was 41 today when I finished so a bit of a difference. So I change my recommendation to whatever you would wear training in the 50s.

I'll think some more on it, but I'll probably do the pants even though it's overdressing, simple because I want that support! Alright, time to fight the crowds at the expo. It's good, because it will keep me from taking that nap I want!

First off Meeting time changed to 4am at P tent.
As to what I am wearing whoever guessed tank and shorts, ding ding ding, we have a winner! But I will have on my arm sleeves, gloves, throwaway $1 ear cover. Also will have on old sweatshirt and pants for corral.
Back at room now. Nice lunch of very good WF cheese, crackers, apple, carrots, and turkey/ham sandwhich with spinach and hummus. Mr Roz cont the grazing to the peanut butter covered pretzels we scored at WF. I love coming back to room for lunch. Did MGM (yes it's still MGM to me) this morning and Mama Gail wiped the floor with me on TSM.
This is going to be a great race tomorrow. Nice comfortable racing weather. Just remember to keep your throwaway clothes on until national anthem to stay warm. There are some porta potties right on the way to corral. Long lines, and I have been known to head for the woods if I am short on time. You will see plenty of runners doing it. (bathroom that is, the other, this isn't bay to breakers!) Last year I remember some porta potties right at C corral.
I will probably checkin before the race tomorrow, if not, everyone have fun!! As Coach Nono said in so many words, just relax and go with it. :-) Telling that to myself more than anyone else LOL.

Okay, some things I learned today.
My body does not like Disney courses.
My body does not like Disney courses.
My body does not like Disney courses.
However, I am glad I ran the HM today, as it really did make me come up with a game plan for tomorrow.
Tomorrow I will, do dynamic stretching on the grassy area next to A. Little path I will do strides before the gun. My body has to be warmed up to run any distance. My mind likes it too. The standing in cold corral and then gun just doesn't work for me.
I will run HIGH grass on the banked overpasses. Played with each one today and found by just running wide on the grass my piriformis worked better.
On the positives today:
I do take back some things on Disney racing. IF you are in A Corral, it's a different world. Lots of room to run, and everyone running a nice smooth pace. Lots of elbow room the entire race. No bottlenecks whatsoever. Everyone ran through the waterstops perfectly.
The MK was cool before the sunrise. Xmas decorations still up. My hardened Disney race heart actually felt a little warmed at the sight. ;-)
Off Kilter playing at mile 12. Playing one of our favorites, Copperhead Road. The whole band was there including some extras, with a entire stage set up in full gear. Really cool.
So first goal was achieved, wanted to right at a sub 2:00, I think our official was right on the money, 1:58:ish. Tomorows goal is 4:00. My body felt crappy today, but tomorrow is a new day. We are getting our mind sets completly different. I really think I race better when I get geared up for a race, totally psyched. The laid back approach to Donald just didn't get my mind/body in sync. So pace tats, a pace band, electrolyte tabs, and gels every hour. If we don't make the goal, no big deal. I think it really is going to be a good training run attempt to reach something that most likely is physically out of reach. Every physcial challenge we survive toughens us up for the next test. And I think we all know what my next test is....heehe.
I LOOOOVed seeing Beth finish her first HM. No feeling like that first one. MM and Mama Gail preservered under some tough conditions, and I think it's so cool that they did it together. I just Team Peacock, each and every one of you!

Okay, now that I've had some time to think and more importantly, sleep...
I had an AWESOME experience yesterday. Overall, I thought this was a great race, especially for a first timer. There is a real sense of community here, since so many people are here for the race and I had so many people, from the flight to the hotel staff wishing we luck on my race. That's such a great extra bit of support!
As for a bit of a play by I play, I actually went to bed REALLY early Friday night (like 7.30) so I got some sleep and I didn't even feel the early wake up before/during the race because I was so excited. It was great to meet the team at the "P" tent before the event--Roz, Mr. Roz, Gail, MM, thank you SO MUCH for listening to my nervous blather! I'm sure I sounded like a nervous, sleep deprived crazy person. You guys saved me from freaking out! Thinking about it now, I want to hug everyone again to thank!
The start was cool with the Iraq simulcast, fireworks, etc (although I couldn't believe it was across the street from OKW. I can see why people try to walk!) The crowding wasn't too bad in Corral C and it thinned out pretty fast (although we were pretty slow to get beneath an 11 minute pace--I don't think people really picked it up until the mile 1 mark). Disney was great about having DJ's, marching bands, and water stops about every mile, starting right at the beginning. I felt like the first 5 miles flew--they were a bit surreal, running in the dark, down World Drive, every so often seeing the monorail go by with all the people on board staring down at us)--and before I knew it, we were going under the bridge by the Contemporary. Magic Kingdom was fantastic to run through, but it was also my slowest portion of the entire race, probably because it was the only place I really stopped (momentarily) to take pictures and because it was so crowded, you just sort of had to run with traffic.
After we left MK, It did get boring. I was excited to see Mary Poppins and Burt at the Grand Floridian, and although I didn't stop for a picture, I did sing Step in Time as loud as possible as I passed! I settled into a nice groove outside of the MK, and felt like a was running a comfortable and FASTER pace than I had for the first half of the race. I always do well when I know about how far a stretch is, and since we had run World Drive towards MK, I felt like I had a good idea. That was until, the overpass off of World Drive towards EPCOT. It was a huge, long cloverleaf and then hill onto the Overpass. That thing was brutal. It's horribly banked, and I knew it would kill me. So I ran in the grass (which I think was a life saver!) I also was with the 2.15 pacer, and she was really motivational (and funny!) I kept her until the last of the three overpass "hills" into EPCOT (hey Disney, in a race with 4 hills, why are 3 of them in the last 3 miles?!) when I had to walk.
I started to get emotional when I saw the 12 mile marker and picked up the pace--started running in the 9s. As we went into EPCOT and ran down towards World Showcase it dawned on me that I was going to finish this thing, and I was going to finish it strong! I thought of everyone who had supported me during training, and I seriously thought of all of you, who repeatedly encouraged me when I had injuries or a bad day. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!! I wish I could bake you all cookies or something :D I also thought about Noel and my running buddy Carlos, who have both been so helpful throughout! As we went backstage at EPCOT towards the finish, there were tons of cast members yelling "almost there" and one unfortunate pair who were yelling "only 1/4 mile more" followed a few feet later by one yelling "only a 1/3 mile more"--I was hoping the were wrong and I wasn't in a time warp. As I came towards the finish line, I can't even describe the feeling. Strangers were yelling my name, cheering me to finish strong. I heard Noel yell "GO BETH" and threw my arms up to finish! It was an AWESOME feeling. Surreal but nice.
Afterwards we met back up with the Roz's and Roz totally saved me, because I was starving and all of the Disney provided post race snacks (which I have to admit seemed cheap, Baltimore had better snacks for it's 5k runners!) contained soy. She gave me some of her Hammer bar and energy chews--so, THANK YOU AGAIN ROZ! :hug1: Then we went back to the room, I took my cold bath, and then we went to eat at the Biergarten. It was really a struggle to keep moving, but I'm glad I did, because I'm sore but it's not awful this morning. Now to put on my medal and head out this morning!
I have pictures (I carried the point and shot I bought on Friday in my left hand for 13 miles) but I need to get them off the camera. So I will share them later!

So I forgot to say in the world's longer RR that I decided from the start that I would do intervals--I did 9 minutes running, 1 minute walking for the most part, except for the first mile (we weren't moving fast enough for me to need a break) and in MK (I was already stopping some for pictures, and I couldn't really walk since it was so crowded). I think this really helped me to never hit the "wall".
And also, where do I sign up for 2012?
So I forgot to say in the world's longer RR
Oh, you're just a rookie in that arena! ;) (Not naming any names!)

Congrats to all who ran this weekend.
I was forced to skip my workout on Friday. When I left to drop my daughter at school, we had no snow on the ground. I drove the 10 miles north to my daughter's school where I was suprised to find out that they already had three inches on ground and it was still failing. I had to drive back the house (20-25 minutes) to get my daughter's snowpants and boots so she could go outside for recess. By the time, I made it back from my extra time, I was not going to have enough time to work out and still meet a friend for lunch.
Oh well, minor setback, starting back up tomorrow.

Beth, sorry, you need about 10,000 more words to reach the record on RRs. I think its safe to say my Rehoboth record still stands? ;-) seriously, savor this moment. This is why we train so hard. Remember the feeling of that medal being placed around your neck, it will help you get through the bad runs.
Just waking up here. My mind is loving the accomplishment, my body is having a major WTF. I will say this, I will do Goofy again--just not next year. Or maybe not year after that...right now I am seriously considering a ECV to take me to dinner. I will post more later. Thanks all for cheering all of us on. A special shout out to MM and Mama Gail for enduring the cold to cheer us. Oh we did make our goal and then some. 3:53:30. Since I am stuck in the airport I want to give a huge shout out to all the incredible Peacock marathoners! I am so so proud! It was such an honor to get to see them all run.
I felt bad that Roz had to yell at me to get my attention as she ran past us at the Polynesian. I had spotted Mr. Roz's red shirt and was looking for her to be with him not realizing she had left him in her dust (hehehe). I spotted her more easily at HS.
I also got to see Carrie and her DH run and finish.
But best of all was getting to see Lisa and her husband Rick. I have somewhat of a soft spot in my heart having just finished my own first marathon just over a month ago. The journey to the finish line from the time one decides to set his or her sights on a full is an amazing one and I'm so honored that I got to be there to see Rick reach his--as well as seeing all the other Peacocks finish their latest one.

Special shout out to the Cloudnut's for putting up with us @ Jiko last night. By the end of the meal, Mr Roz was attemting to pay using a 3 year old expired debit card AND his Sams card. I'm sad to report that somehow I missed Lisa, Rick, and Carrie in DHS. I was there at the right time and reading bibs, but you all scooted right past me. But a big CONGRATULATIONS to all of you on your finish!
I did get to see Stanley, the last person who they let finish, come through DHS. It was neat because the announcers were like "here's Stanley, our last finisher" and the crowd started chanting his name. Disney is a special race.
We had so much fun celebrating last night with the Roz's and Mama Gail. Although unfortunately, all that not partaking I've been doing is getting me this morning, and I'm a bit groggy. I better perk up before my breakfast at the castle!

Sorry about the coughing - I'll bet that is tough while swimming.
I got out and threw batting practice for my boys Saturday morning. Probably 300 pitches or so. Now my knee is killing me. I'm getting really frustrated. Guess it was the pushing off on that leg? Probably why the bike hurt.
Did a good AB workout yesterday. Will hit upper body and the elliptical at lunch.

Home from WDW...sad and exhausted. What a great weekend this was! :D
Well, here we are on Day 11 of me running the Wildwood Recouperation Home for the Serially Influenzaed...
I now own a complete set of every OTC medicine for each symptom individually in child formula. The set was completed this morning at Walmart. I feel so complete. And sleep deprived. And exhausted. I have washed sheets 6x in 2011. I have become immune to the smell of Clorox, which has been used to assist in keeping remotes, light switches and door knobs somewhat disease-free.
We own a Cool Mist humidifier!
I have run 2x on the TM. Once was 1.1 miles in 15 min. Two days ago, it was 1.1 miles in 20 min! See a trend? It's called walking because I have no balance to run! :scared07: Oh, and no stamina either.
My dh has not been sick at all -- so overall, I feel like a raging success in this fight!
More snow coming today, so while there's no running, my core is getting a decent workout with all the storms. Colds/flu/stomach bug, whatever, I still like to get out and shovel the snow, so that's been going well. And frankly, the cool air feels like such a relief. Plus I can't hear anyone whining or crying while I'm out there (ds).
We've only lost 1 day of school through this, which is amazing at this point. We'll divide up Monday's work the rest of this week to be sure to stay on scheule. As my dd says, "I don't want to be doing school in the summer!" That's it my girl. Stay focused!!!
Anxiously awaiting more reports from the weekend, so I figured I'd bore you to death with what is going on around here.

So for everyone thinking about 2012, I thought I would share the info I heard from the RunDisney people while Mr. Roz was busy being a rockstar on camera yesterday at EPCOT (i'll let the Roz's talk about his star turn :D).
Registration for 2012 will open the second or third week in March. According to the person I talked to, RD heard the complaints about the discounts that were offered to people who signed up late, so they're going to do some sort of early bird discount for 2012. They said participants from this year should watch their email for notices about the discounts.
So that means decision time is right around the corner! So am I doing the full or Goofy? ;)

nono- Yikes! Sorry the fam is still so sick. Glad you could complete your med collection though... ;) I'd prefer a Disney pin series or Coast to Coast medals, but hey, take what ya' can get!
Nothing personal, but I'm sure hoping I won't get to that point. Started coughing some before and after mill. So far no drugs today; maybe that is contributing to me feeling stuffy and headachey. :scratchchin: Right ear also hurts some... Ugh. On the plus side, still managed 45 mill min. this AM, including my 10 MPH sprint minute o' death at the end! :thumbsup2:
CN- The Goofy? :scared07: I will admit that it intrigues me, but personally I find it over ambitious for this Geek. I'm awaiting March 15th so I can register for the full. Only! :silly: I think that'll be enough and I still want it to be my first 26.2... I see there is a $20 discount for the DL half if you register by Feb. 15th (or something like that) so maybe WDW 2012 will be a similar month or so discount offer. In any event, I look forward to meeting you in person that weekend, if not before!!! :D

DG-I think the Roz's spiked my drink so now I'm drinking the Goofy koolaid ;)
Just kidding...but in all seriousness, I went to WDW thinking I would never want to do a Marathon, much less a Goofy. But then I saw all the people doing the Goofy and thought I could do it. No, I KNEW I could do it, if I can work out the calendar. Seriously, it was so inspirational standing at mile 23 in DHS the day after I had a great first HM and seeing the peole stream through with Goofy bibs. And DH is talking about doing the half now (he apparently also drank the koolaid ;)), and I want to be there with him when he crosses the line. The only issue making me think no Goofy is that I would want to do a full before Goofy, and I'm not sure how that fits into my calendar (unless I do it in July, and are there even marathons in July??) So I need to figure it out!

Nono- I feel your pain. DW just called after leaving the doctor's office. DS12 & DD9 both have the flu, but caught it early enough to get them and the entire family started on Tamiflu. Guess we ARE 11 days into the new year - might as well meet all our deductibles.

Chilled out @ community hall. Sanaa was great, couple beers @ lunch and then we headed over here to make buttons. I made a Mulan Peacock combo button. ;-) The big balcony overlooking the savannah is wicked cool here. Mr Roz is still inside working on his artwork. Always the perfectionist LOL.
At lunch it was decided that we were 9o% sure we were going Goofy again. The HM course is still blahhh, but the changes they made to the marathon course is now one of my favorite full courses. Then again, corralA probably helped with that. More later, on to a last roound @ World Showcase before checkout tomorrow.

I need to figure out what size room to book at BLT. I've got 260 points there so this is the time to use that 11 month window!!
Had a good session with the PT today. He had me get on the TM and I did my first 2 miles since the race. He stretched me out really well and said I'm doing great all things considered--he actually seemed a little surprised that I feel like I'm back at my baseline so fast after the race. He also wrote me a bit of a training plan for the next couple months, mainly because he wants me to ease back in, but then he gave me the all clear to start on speed training in 6-8 weeks! So officially, I'm done with PT, but he told me to call if I have any issues. He also invited me to come run on the G-Trainer they're getting at the clinic in February! There's is going to be only the third in the state of Maryland! I think it will be interesting to see/run in one.

Roz I think I booked within the week of the 7 month mark. I was in Africa so I didn't call at exactly the day. Also because of the points I only waitlisted for a standard view which I've been told is only 10-20% of rooms.
I learned today of a half marathon close to my alma mater in a month. I'm hoping to get back in enough shape to finish in the 3hr time limit. Anyone want to run in Strawberry Plains TN with me?

Okay, gather around the fireplace. Grab your favorite drink. It's story time. This may be a long one....
First off I think I will share my thoughts on the new and improved marathon course since there are some peeps that want to do this next year.
First off, I think the new wave system worked. Of course, my starting corral might have something to do with my perception. I did notice a lot of people who started farther back note the same thing on ROTE.
Love love love the new entrance to Epcot with the double wide lanes. Nice touch with the MSEP floats too. No more bottleneck backstage! Liked that now everyone got to experience WS in the dark with the illumination torches lit. Once again, no bottlenecks noticed leaving to backstage area from China.
It seems like to me there was a lot more entertainment on the course in the "quiet" areas. Army guy on inclines, balloon, Davy Crockett, etc. Was the ASI photos with the characters a new thing? There were no lines for characters when I went through, and next year it might be my goal to---gasp!---stop for a Jessie pic in frontierland.
I truly LOVE running through AK. I love my AK, and AK loves me in this marathon. I find myself really able to get motivated and centered in this area. Yeah, it's mile 18 or so, but it ROCKS! I think the CMs know it's the line in the sand area and really go all out cheering.
This course has my favorite out and back of any race I have ever done. I don't even know I am on a out and back! I love waving to all the "friends" I have made in the course, in front and back of me.
One of my only negatives of the course again is the run from MGM (yes I know the name changed, but I refuse to call it DHS) to Boardwalk area. Very narrow and people were starting to bonk. I had to weave in and out yelling "passing right!" "passing left" and sometimes even squeezing in between the 3 wide bonkers. Some said "sorry, I know I am crashing" and quickly scooted away, others, mostly males who hate being out chicked (especially one wearing a Goofy Bib) said some nasty's. I just had to laugh. Yeah, I am a cold hearted beaacctch.
Like the new finish too, seemed we did less weaving all the way around SE and it ended quicker. Or was I just hallucinating at this point? :scratchchin:
Volunteers were top notch. Honestly I can't imagine doing what they do. (Who want me where, at what time, and I am not even doing the race, and I am not getting paid?)
To be cont....

Favorite personal memories/experiences/observations from the Marathon.
Don't worry, I won't step by step it for brevity sake.
Loved meeting up both days before the race at the P tent. It really helped calm my nerves to see all the friendly faces.
Really am glad I brain powered my warm up for the marathon. Brought my blankie to the P tent, and did light yoga. Did more yoga and dynamic stretching in corral. (Which was a dynamic stretching how to video, funny to see everyone doing all their pre-race rituals, some were downright hilarious) Even did a few jogs with the elite runners on a side road by Corral A. The Brazilan breathed on me once. ;) I think all of this made a 100% difference in how my body felt for the race.
Glad I went to the woods and visited the bush before the gun. Never had to stop once for race. (sometimes this is issue with me)
First 6 miles were tough. Tough? Why? Well the whole corral A blazed by us like we were standing still. We were doing about 9:00/mile range. I knew we had to hold back, but we both felt great, and weather was PERFECT for racing. I kept telling Mr Roz, steady, steady. WE WILL SEE THESE FOLKS AGAIN in the last miles, promise. Our old coach always hammered to us, first 6 miles of the marathon will dicate how you will finish the last 6. Man, though, I wanted to fly off with them!
Mr Roz started having GI issues leading up into MK, about mile 7 or so. I was feeling great, and knew I had a chance for a sub 4:00. We both agreed he would just stop when he needed and try to catch up. I did jog in place once for a few minutes after his TTC stop--wanting him to catch up quicker, not wanting to experience Main Street without him. However, my body quickly told me that stopping running is not a option. My body does so much better when I straight run, no walk breaks, no stopping, nothing.
Through out the race, he would have to stop every hour or so. Each time, he eventually would catch back up with me. Each time he had to drop off, I felt like I would not see him again for the rest of race. BUT each time, he surged ahead till' he could catch up with me. Considering I had dropped now to a 8:50 pace range, I knew he must have to be really dropping the pace to catch up. How he kept surging ahead with all his issues I will never know.
Finally we reach the out and back before MGM. I had been running alone for a few miles, as Mr Roz announced for me to keep to my race that he was out. Lo and behold, I see him on out and back. I blow him a kiss wanting a "I love you, sorry you are having trouble". HOWEVER he took it as "eat my dust, see ya at the finish" Just what he needed to blast OFF!! Blast off he did, caught me, and I did remaining miles trying to race him. Back and forth we went, racing each other last miles.
Upon rounding the "hat" at MGM, there is a area where CMs are stationed to try to do crossover control for guests entering park. They would wait until break between runners, and yell "GO!" to a certain number of guests who would dash across course. Well one lady decided that she would cut right in front of me, even while CM was yelling at her to stay. She had the whole I paid my time to be here, sorry runner, sucks to be you. Well by this point I was a runaway train, racing my guts out. (yeah yeah 8:30 pace is not really racing guts out, but it is to me!) I told myself, if I have to take out me and this lady out, I am not stopping. It will be worth to get out off race just to see this lady get her just desserts. So she is 5 feet in front of me. I put my head down and barrell down on her, screaming at top of lungs "GET OUT OF MY WAY BIT$%#CH"!!!!!!!! The whole crowd gasps. The CMS gasp. Mr Roz who was behind me at this time is muttering to himself "always a lady..." Just a side note...the b$#%ch did get out my way. In a hurry....
Last effort through Epcot was hard. But I was so surprised in how strong I felt in last 10K. Stronger than AF even. Nothing hurt, it was just that I am going to die soon feeling. Please, let it be over hurting. So I was gasping to keep my new record pace, when I felt myself fading. Then it happened. I passed China in WS. Who was there? But my beloved Mulan, cheering. I scream at top of lungs "Mulaaaan, you arrrree my favoriiiiite, I loooooooove you!" Then she responds back "I loooooove you too Rozzie, GO!" (I just love having my name on my shirt) It was all it took. Another rocket booster fired and I quickly started catching up with Mr Roz
Yes, it's true. We passed tons of runners the last 6 miles that had blazed by us in the first 6. I love this feeling, a feeling like of a smartly run race. I don't think actually we were passed once in the last 4 miles.
Mr Roz was about 10 paces ahead as we rounded to the finish, and in my mind, I was like, I had him beat, but he deserves the win, he raced his guts out, it's his bday, he overcame so many obstacles to go out in front...all this thoughts to myself to console myself when all of a sudden he stopped and reached out his hand about 200 yards from finish. Yep, the Rozzie's came in together, hand in hand! :)
One more side note. I am not a medal ho', but there has not been a feeling like getting that Goofy medal placed around my neck. I really felt like I accomplished something big. A Marathon PR in Goofy. Also a 43 min course PR from last year. Excuse the peacocking, but I finally felt like all the mileage finally has paid off. :thumbsup2:

Not that 3:53 is considered fast.
Actually, when I told my dad that he started thinking you were a lot more serious than he originally expected...

Ha!!! I love your attitude towards the slow poke guest as I feel the same way. In fact after I saw you and Mr. Roz come by outside HS I went inside the park to watch for Carrie Lisa and Rick. I was so disgusted with the guests crossing in the course that I started hollering at them to move their a**es. Most of the CM in my opinion didn't know how to time things correctly. Even for those runners and walkers who were not trying to beat a certain time it is so hard to stop abruptly after being in motion for 23+ miles. Plus my brain doesn't function fast enough to make those decisions that quickly at that point.

Thanks for posting the great pics Beth. It was great meeting you and Noel.
MM...thanks for being my walking partner for the half
Carrie...It was great seeing you and Scott on Main Street and at the finish cheering.
Lisa...It was great seeing you and Rick at the finish cheering us on
Well, MM came back in the next to the last wave with me to walk the half. It took about a half hour from when the first wave left before we started. It was fun watching the fireworks go off for each wave. It was very crowded and we had to do a lot of weaving but we managed to keep a deacent pace. Having someone with you makes the time go fast and before we knew it we were in the MK. We saw Carrie and Scott on main street. There were a lot of phopographers in the parks so we were running for our photo ops. Up until a little while out of the MK it was looking like I was going to have an uneventful race for a change. But no, I seem to have to have some kind of drama. We think I must have tripped on one of the rumble strips on the side of the road and I did a slide into home plate. I was lucky that I went onto the grass and not on the road. Some other runners helped me up and we continued on. Later we had to go to the side of the road because of the emergency vehicles taking someone off the course. After they went by we were on our way to the overpasses before we went into Epcot. We made it over them without any problems and into Epcot and finally on our way to the finish line. We saw Carrie & Scott and Lisa & Rick cheering us on to the finish and our Donald metals. :donald: Thanks for a great time MM!

Me thanking Mulan on Monday for her support at mile 24. And yes, she did Remember me! Said she was so happy to see I did not need a warrior to make me run fast, and quoted the strong/swift passage from the movie. I was near tears! :D

Happy Birthday Mr. Roz!
THANK YOU Gail and Rozzie for your race reports! I haven't gotten over to asi's site yet to see photos. Everytime I try, some other crisis happens here at the "care unit." Currently, my ds is as high as a college kid with a bong*, so I know I won't get there now. But later today, after everyone's had the munchies and crashed, I am looking forward to viewing them.
*Seriously, he's way underdosed for children's acetaminophen, but definitely high. And, he's college-boy funny with his antics too. Which is keeping my panic under control at the moment. :oweye:

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes. I have to work all day today but this past weekend was wonderful and a great birthday present.
I'll need a little more time to put in my complete race report. Roz covered most of it.
Vacations with MG are allways great. I was so happy with her and MM on the half. For those two to run the race and then come out the next day and traverse the whole course just to cheer us on was big. It was much needed at MGM. A big thanks.
Congrats to CN on her first of hopefuly many Disney races. We had a blast hanging out at after the race.
Loved seeing Rick and Lisa. You and Rick's enthusiasm is contagious. Lisa, let him know I found a killer "Vicious Peacock" print for our race shirts next year.
I'll get that report in hopefully by the end of this week.

Okay, I will catch up on the thread later today! Here is my race report and then I have to get to work pronto, lol!
Marathon Race Report:
We did it!!! :yahoo: You already know that but I am still so grateful that we got it done considering...:cloud9: All the worry about Rick being sick and his foot being injured ended up being a non-issue and it turned out that my bronchitis was a much bigger problem!
Rick and I were up and at it early on Marathon Day. We boarded the bus at 3am and I had already made two mistakes at that point, lol! I kept remembering last year’s frigid marathon and subsequently, I dressed too warmly, augggh. (i didn’t know this until much later though...) Second mistake was the full bottle of yummy coffee I brought with me...
Met up right away with Rozzie, Scott, Gail and Amanda! I love having a pre run meet with my fellow teammates.
We signed up for Mickey at the Wine & Dine Half because they sweetened the pot with gift cards! I must have missed the place to put a time in and we were placed in the last corral. Usually, I get us in a bit faster corral since we get bottlenecked during our attempted runs early in the race. It worked out okay this time and we made sure to enter our corral very early!
The race began and the first 5 miles sailed by. I noticed chest tightness early on but I try to ignore stuff like that as it just makes me worry and what is the good of that? We got a very big boost by seeing Amanda and Gail at the Ticket and Transportation Center! I was surprised to see them at all because I figured Rozzie and Scott’s speediness would prevent their waiting around for us! I was wrong and they were the best cheer team ever!
By the time we reached the Magic Kingdom, between miles 10 and 11, I could really tell the impact my breathing was having on my body! I was really hoping to see my parents in MK but we managed to beat the time we told them and we missed them by mere minutes!! I found I needed most of our 3 minute walk periods to recuperate from the 1 minute run portions. :oweye: I felt like I was panting very hard after each run. Around mile 16, I started to notice that I felt a bit strange and that my lips felt numb which made me very nervous.
All this time, my sweet husband was feeling great, lol! He was a great running partner too! Usually, I am the timekeeper and announcer. When the race started, we both started our GPS’s and his started and mine didn’t! Therefore, he was the timekeeper since my watch was off by about 1:20 minutes. He did great and since I was obviously not well, this was a true blessing for me. :hug1:
By the time, we saw my parents at AK around Mile 18, I knew I was having problems. I didn’t tell my parents, of course, but I started telling Rick I felt funny...poor Rick! For several miles, I tried to convince Rick to leave me so he could get a medal. I just seemed to flirt with feeling like I was outside of my body and the numbness/tingling stayed and I felt it in my nose, chin and fingers. I might have had it in my feet too but it was hard to tell down there, lol! He wanted me to check in at a med tent but I knew my race would be over if I stepped in there and told them I felt funny! :scared07:
I was feeling very hot too with no way to relieve it that I could think of at first. I was running with my light jacket around my waist but very stupidly wore my cold gear top!! Rick finally gave in to a bathroom stop and I tore into a port a pot and basically stripped to my sports bra and put the light jacket on. I was able to better regulate my heat level that way with the zipper, haha. I definitely had too many costume changes during this race! Rick tied my top around his waist (did I mention how much I love this man?)! I proceeded to get a sunburn then which added to the tingly feelings.
You would not believe the relief that flooded me when we finally entered HS and I realized if I could remain upright and moving, we would get a medal!! The Hershey’s chocolate and mostly Amanda’s cheering :cheerleader: (sorry we missed you Beth!) got us through that portion. At Mile 23, I told Rick I would have to stop running because I was so afraid, I would pass out. That slowed us considerably but I was actually able to walk faster and felt more steady not running.
In World Showcase, I was trying to estimate our time by the messed up GPS I was wearing and I was getting so nervous that we would forfeit getting in under the time requirement. I actually asked Rick to run a little bit as we took the last downhill. Rick’s body didn’t want to run at that point but I urged him a bit further and we started walking again. Miraculously, we saw Amanda again before the final turn (she deserves a medal for what she did to cheer Rick on to his first marathon and I was lucky to be there too). We saw my mom and dad too; they are awesome and I was afraid they really wore themselves out.
Rick and I ran for the finish. I was praying for under 7 hours and I also prayed not to fall down at the finish, lol! I was swarmed by some Team in Training runners trying to get a group picture in and Rick and I were separated at the finish but he was on my heels!
This was by far my hardest marathon to date. After the race and much discussion of symptoms, it was decided that I experienced hypoxic hypoxia and I was very lucky to have made it though the marathon in this state of oxygen lack. My dad fingered it because of his pilot background and my ipad confirmed it! I won’t go into our gi issues during the race and my tummy issues after the race because that is just not fun reading, lol! I felt I was well hydrated during the race too but I experienced the most cramping I’ve ever had too - I think it was due to the lack of oxygen somehow.
Rick and I are very proud of our marathon and we were very surprised to find out that we both made it in mere seconds under the 7 hour requirement too. Believe it or not, we are planning next year’s Mickey already. I am determined to lose at least 20 pounds in advance of my next marathon too. I will be more fit and hopefully healthier too... We did both recover very well - I already cannot tell that I ran a marathon. Those CW-X tights really do rock and made a huge difference in my muscle recovery!! Oh, and the race couse itself was very much improved (hint, hint, nono :w00t:). I really think Disney did this race very well!!! The entertainment was very good and I am hoping to be fast enough next year to get some ASI shots with a few characters.
See, Beth, here is a long race report too - didn’t want you to feel alone!

Which reminds me, everyone be putting their thinking caps on and think of a great Peacock destination for Sunday night of the Marathon. There might be very good number of us gathering so I'll need to call at 180 days out. Yeah, I know, it's a year off, but I got to fight these Disney blues somehow!

Good point. Unfortunately, with three kids at home and no real help - it makes it tough.
Thinking the F&W half might be good because it is our 22nd wedding anniversary. MIL was going to watch the kids for our 20th so we could go - just the two of us - but the entire family got H1N1:(.
Again, hoping it can happen at some point - whether I run or not - I'm a pretty good cheerleader :).

Some of my favorite restaurants are Le Celliar California Grill and Teppan Edo. Narcoosee is good but small.
If BLT is the place to be I will probably just book at VWL again. I was hoping to save points and get a value studio at AKL but the time I can save in transportation is important too. I will try again for BLT at 7 mos.
When I can get on a real computer I will post my thoughts on the races. Right now I'm waiting to get my TN DL. I'm so sad to give up my beautiful KY one :(

You could always come over here and enjoy the drug festival. I bit the bullet and called the new doc's office today at 11 something. They had us come over at 1 pm. At lunch. Whole place empty but for the doctor. She's a hoot. Talks 90 mph and still has her Chinese accent (I think she came here in high school). Fabulous lady, with Pocohontas long gray hair. My mom and dad are making noises again about coming with us on our marathon trip next year so I would want to plan on a celebration place that could accommodate 4 from my family plus everyone else. And, that Rozzie has been recruiting me for next year's Goofy?
And that Mr. Nono has said OK. Which is important since he's the babysitter. (Oh, still need to work on a babysitter for Atlantic City).
Lisa, I would love to see your Mom again and to meet your Dad! As for the family, we are all sitting upright on the same couch right now, bathing in the morning sun coming up. My dog is unhappy we're not out running already. Plan is for 3 miles today in the Vibrams on the beach. Supposed to go over 30 today, so I'm psyched! It won't be such an exhausting event getting dressed to go out (not really a problem for me mentally this year, just tiring as I'm still pretty sick as well).

My count is up to 12 or more! I will be happy wherever we choose though. What time did y'all celebrate at Jiko this year?
Oh ABSOLUTELY! I was already assuming they would join us. Like I told them on the trip, they are members of Team Peacock too! Seriously the way the support you on these races in incredible. I can't even get a phone call out of my mom to congratulate me, and your parents are up in the middle of the cold night ready to rumble.
If you possibly are staying at BLT, would it be easier if we found something on the monorail-ish? Another bonus of that would be those of us who will want to invade MK EMH Sunday night after dinner. I know getting up and walking around EMH Sunday saved my legs monday. Lactic acid was all worked out by midnight. ;)
Dern, Jen, I was hoping by miracles of miracles that you would be able to do Donald. Just a quick trip even, maybe ya'll will be better off in the job situation?

Sorry nono, I do know you have kids. It wasn't meant as a knock on yours, or ALL kids (I don't hate them!), more on the Cali Grill. My only dining experience at Cali was a bad one where way too many people had kept their kids up way too late to try to see the fireworks. So it was a meal full of screaming and crying with a side of $25 a plate sushi. I'm not sure if it's the setup of the restaurant or what, but it felt like the loudest Disney restaurant I've ever been in. And then we had a big fight with the waitress at the end of the night. So yeah, it was just an all around bad experience...:(
okay now I feel really bad, that's what I get for posting after adult beverages :(

Uh, has anyone told cloudnut I have kids?
And, that Rozzie has been recruiting me for next year's Goofy?
And that Mr. Nono has said OK.
.
:rocker: :yahoo: :cheerleader:
First off, we told Beth all about your kids. :) We bragged on them all throughout Jiko dinner. Besides, your kids are not just kids, they are little nonoette's, little peacock chicklets.
Do you wear socks with the vibrams? I tried some on at expo but it was like mania and couldn't figure out my size. Have a good run! Mr Roz couldn't take it anymore and just left without me. I am full blown sick (but not nono clan sick like....still upright...) with something myself and still going to hold out until Monday. Promised myself a full week of nada.
Lisa, that is just one peacock artwork. We will keep looking to make sure what goes on their shirts is the best of the best. Do tell Rick he needs to come on here.

Sorry my humor is all in my head this morning and not making it out to my fingertips. Hey, my kids can be all sorts of devils too. It's just that I like yelling at mine (truth and humor), so I remove them from restaurants and have my fun putting them back on the civil path.
I could wear socks with the Vibrams as Mr. Nono got me another pair of Injinjis (sp?), which are my go-to marathon socks in my Frees currently. I was lucky, the Vibrams are sold in 2 places locally (I don't mean Atlantic City local, I mean only over 1 bridge in each direction). The first place I went to, the girl is a high school runner who runs in them. She did a really good job for me, and there was a sale. :love30: So, Mr. Nono got them for me for Christmas for less than $80.
Rozzie, remember the other half of the deal for me doing Goofy...

Beth, I do agree, Cali seems to be a very loud restaurant. We have not ever figured it out. Is it because the open kitchen? So many people waiting at the bar that sits in middle of restaurant? I have found that it's pretty quiet at around 5pm. We like to get wine and sushi then hit the road before the cranky "fireworks" crowd rolls in.
Beth, I do agree, Nono's not funny.

Love the pictures! No wonder you all are "Peacocks" -- everyone looks so good!
Never been to Cali Grill -- its on the list though.
LOVED BLT when we stayed there before our cruise last summer - 2BR - MK view -- wonderful. That reminds me -- we have no points :( (too much borrowing last summer -- but it sure was fun trying the different resorts).
Our kids are on the mend, DS12 made it to school yesterday and looks like DD9 might make ballet today.
Still nursing the sore knee -- but back to the doctor on Wednesday.
Trainer at the gym that I joined gave me some exercises to try to strengthen the muscles around the knee. We shall see.
Beth -- loved your website -- that is soooo cool. You are very talented.

No, just evil editing! I've never done it before and had minutes of guilt afterwards! :D Remember, there's the little arrow icon now where you can actually see the original post? I remember when that feature came out, I was so surprised that anyone would quote and change someone's quote, hence the need for the feature in the software. But alas, I finally found a use for it this morning. I would like to say it's OTC meds again, but I don't think I can blame it on that in me...
AC right? We are so there. It's all we talk about...
OK. Then there's just one last problem. What weekend is it in 2012??
EDIT: Nevermind. There's no problem. It's the weekend I wanted/needed it to be.
OK, the Rozzies in AC. Nono will return to a Disney race or two in 2012.

And, that Rozzie has been recruiting me for next year's Goofy? AWESOME!!!!!
So glad you are all on the mend! Disney 2012 is going to be so cool. The numbers at the dinner are way up!!

Have you thought about asking the doctor for a referral to a physical therapist? mine helped me a lot! Active recovery targeting the knee might really help.

ps- the reason I'm looking at that weekend is because I'm back to thinking Goofy, mainly because I had a loooooong talk with my sister yesterday, and I think she might come next year for the half. She has been struggling to add an exercise component back into her life, and what better carrot than a WDW race (she is a HUGE Disney fan and I know what running in the parks would mean to her). I think she wants me to do it with her, but we need to talk more. She's worried about going from zero to half, but I'm trying to convince her that with a year to get ready, she could totally do it!

Cleaning my closet today - guess if the pants are 10 inches too big in the waist it is safe to at least put them in storage? Hey, that's an inch per month since I started on this journey :).

I think it was decided to do AC this coming year since I crapped out on AF... :oweye: this way the team can drag me to the start....
I really like the race, cn...it's a very low key event. Course will change again this year (Heck it changed last year 2x before it happened...you can see both courses out on the usatf.org site). But, no matter what, it always seems to produce fast results. A good springboard into a January at Disney for sure...

Thanks for the encouragement :).
Actually have two piles going - the pants that are huge are going to give-away. The ones that are just big are going to storage - way up in the attic, in the back.
Trust me - the diabetes is a huge motivator to continue down the right path. I really don't want to have to start meds and eating right and exercising are my best hope for that. I was jus telling DW, since I joined the gym, the days I workout my blood sugar levels are at least 10 points lower than the days I don't.

JRB--I'm so glad you're taking your health into your own hands with the diabetes. Watching what that disease did to my grandmother when I was a child is seared into my brain and I think it's the number one motivating factor for me to stay healthy (well that and now I'm an addict) since diabetes is really common on both sides of my family. Both of my parents have been borderline since their late 40s and I wish they would make the commitment to be fit!
Yay for peacock racing in AC!
I just signed up for a 5k the weekend before my birthday. It's a Shamrock Race on the course of Baltimore's St. Patty's day Parade--my PT clued me in to it. I'm a St. Patty's day baby, so it seems fitting. Wouldn't I love a new PR as a birthday gift? :D

I just remembered another reason why I can't go to WDW in January...We're supposed to be skipping WDW in 2012(:scared07: I know) because we're going to visit my friend that lives in Germany, and airfare isn't cheap, even for travel agents, lol.
Would be nice to say we're having our wedding & honeymoon sometime soon too, but who knows, until finances are in order, thats not a priority either:rolleyes:

When we ate at California Grill, we were seated in the wine room. It is in the back of the restaurant behind the open kitchen. It was quiet back there.
CN--nono's children are very well behaved. Nono, on the other hand. . . ;) :poke:
Rozes, when are you going to WDW? I was thinking--the Monday before the marathon will probably be a holiday for New Year's Day. Do I really want to come to work for just Tuesday and Wednesday before leaving again? On the other hand, I know if I go to WDW early, I will be eating junk and not moving like I should if I want to run Goofy. So I'm thinking.
Ugh, really I am not up to planning this much a year out. I want to make it through my 2011 marathon first! I don't know why I'm having a hard time getting excited today. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone, but I don't know. . . Maybe it's the thought of all the training that's going to go into it. Maybe it's the knowledge of everything else I have on my plate right now.

As to my thoughts on this past marathon weekend:
I really wish they would've timed the 5K. I'm not sure I would've paid money to run a non-timed race. OUC was timed and had children as young as 3 years old in it, so I really don't think Disney can use age as an excuse. (Now, don't get me wrong, the OUC had problems of it's own, but that was discussed before.)
Now for the half marathon. Because several people posted about the course and organization and such, I'm just going to talk about my experience.
Now, I, for one, really do enjoy the course. I had a good time at the Princess. When I saw Donald was the same course, I knew I wanted to run it. The thing is, I didn't realize how humbling an experience running a marathon would be (because I didn't listen to everyone who tried to tell me) and hadn't a thought that I wouldn't be running as much in the month immediately after. So I was not in the shape I was just a month before.
But Coach Gail took me under her wing. I'm really glad, because if I had tried to walk/run it I probably would've run out of steam. And let me say that I used my hip muscles so much more in walking the half than in running it. My hip flexors and abductors (and hamstrings) started getting tight around mile 8. I stopped at one point to stretch, then had to run 1/4 mile to catch up to Gail (I still think she was moving faster without me with her so I feel bad about holding her back). I was so out of breath! Anyway, I hope to start incorporating the walk/run better into my training and build up those muscles I should be using to run so I can help prevent my injuries.
I had no concept we were out for 3 1/2 hours. Having someone there makes it so much fun! I enjoy running, and usually end up talking and singing to myself, but I'm still watching the clock. I remember looking at my watch at one point and couldn't believe we'd been moving for 1 1/2 hours. In fact, I jabbered so much I distracted Gail from the course, causing her to do a horrible face plant on the ground somewhere behind the GF. She is such a good sport--she never complained and didn't want to stop--so that I forgot about her hurt shoulder. We held our hands up for the finish and she mentioned it was her injured arm. Like I said, I had completely forgotten! So I'm not the best running partner if you're looking to focus on what you're doing. :D
I did appreciate that there was more entertainment on the road between the parks.

Lisa, as proud as I am of Rick, I am super amazed at you. Gail and I talked several times about how much of an inspiration you are for us. All day long I encourage people to participate in regular cardiac exercise. And all day long I have to listen to whiney excuses--"I have bad knees," "My back hurts," blah, blah, blah. I wish I could tell them about how much you do despite all the challenges you face. It is an amazing feat for anyone to complete 3 marathons (including the Goofy!). But you've done it overcoming some great obstacles. Thanks for showing us how it's done!
We have a lot of Peacocks who continue to perservere. Gail is another example of not letting an ailment keep her from pushing herself beyond limits she thought she had. Way to go Gail!

DW & I haven't been to any of those; love to try whatever the group picks!
nono- Wow, so sounds like you are planning to come to the WDW Marathon Weekend in 2012; the Peacocks will all be there!!! :woohoodance:
Roz- Not so sure about the "vicious peacock" art (I wish it weren't in a skull;otherwise I'd TOTALLY be into wearing it...), but glad you found some for those who are interested!
FWIW, I got lost on the nono not being funny / CN worried about dissing her kids thing; apparently I coudl try digging through attempting to look up original posts, AHHH! :confused24: Glad everyone seems to be a 'happy family' again now though!
JRB- Out of points? Guess you'll just need to borrow again to join us in 2012! ;) And glad you are tossing some pants; I can relate to getting that done, as I dropped ~8-10 inches from my waist as well! :thumbsup2:

I know what you mean about the holiday on Monday. It might just make sense to be gone the whole week, but I know I'll want to be there for Marathon monday.
Lisa, it truly is amazing what you overcome! And Gail, I think I would have quit after falling down, but you kept on like a trooper!
Sometimes, I don't understand this body of mine. I went out for an easy 4 miles and it wanted to run really, really fast despite the fact that I'm 1. hungover and 2. full of whole wheat waffles from breakfast. I had to struggle to stay at a 9.40 pace. Where was speedy last week? :oweye:

In my very best cajun boy voice "YOU CAN DO ITTTTTTTT!"!! Let's hear about your training plans. What are you going to do and when are you going to start? (didin't realize you picked up a accountability partner along the way huh???)
MG, thanks for posting the baby picture. I can now add it to my photobucket memories. :D BTW, I am a very bad teammate/friend, have not asked about your arm. How is the arm holding up? :listen:
As for dates on whoever asked, we are shooting for Jan 5-14. I would go earlier and leave earlier, but I know how bad I eat while I am down there. I can only last a few days prerace before I fall into the calorie black hole down there.
Speaking of calories, went to our local running store. You know, where my old running coach manages. Well he was up there and was in rare form. Or should I say common form for him. Evidenttly he thinks they should lower all BQ times to 3:10 for men, 3:25 women. He said anything else is pretty much jogging in so many words. :oweye: BTW, he is 51 and going for a sub 3:00 Full next month in New Orleans.
While this type of talk would deflate some people, it really motivated me to dig down. I bought some "exposers" with my Santa gift card. Infinity spilt shorts that leaves nothing to the imagination. Not a square to spare. They make my current split shorts look like a granny skirt. My goal is to BQ in them, and hopefully be 10 lbs lighter so I don't get pulled from the course for indecent exposure. ;)
3 incredibly slow miles on the TM tonight, with 2 rests...thankfully, I have a new audiobook out of the library consortium. Condoleezza Rice's Extraordinary, Ordinary People. I really like audiobooks where the author (if they have any speaking ability) does the narration. She does in this one, and it's an easy listen so far.
I have to get the dog walked so I can finish up book 2 in my 52 books in 52 weeks challenge. I'm just about done Forbidden Nation: A History of Taiwan.
Roz, I think we're looking at Jan 3 - Jan 10. I'm not worried, as we really do cook a lot in the villa.

AWESOME! Can't wait to see you there. :goodvibes:
I did my 54 min. + wu/cd on the mill (5.5 miles / 60:3x total). All felt pretty good really; didn't even die from my sprint and started breathing normally less than a minute after it! ;) Using a new ITB stretch that seems to be helping more than one I had previously been using. :)
FYI, I'm planning to head to the World Fri. Jan. 6th and flying home Wed. Jan 11th (so a 5 night stay). I've also scheduled Thursday & Friday off from work so I can have 11 continuous days out of the office but only use 6 PTO days! :D
I was just on the phone w/ my mom and am pushing a bit more for my parents to come. My dad is slightly interested in running the full; I pointed out that it could be cool to have them there for my first full, esp. after all of their races I went to growing up & it would be cool to take a pic w/ my dad & our matching Mickey medals! (Is it wrong for me to play that emotion card w/ my parents? :scratchchin:) Would indeed be neat to run a marathon 'with' my dad, even if he finishes an hour or more ahead of me! :rotfl2: They said that if they come they'd probably arrive on Sat. & I'm guessing it would be for 3 nights since that is their most common trip length the past few years... I offered to make the DVC ressies for them since I'll be calling for my own anyhow come Feb. 6th! :w00t:
BTW, anyone here have people do the ChEAR Squad? DW & maybe my mom could be interested... :silly:

Well I'd like to think I started training for my next full as soon as I got back from Disney. I'm working to get back to running without pain so I'm using nono's active recovery plan of adding more miles as my ITB tolerates it. Today I ran 45 mins which is the longest continual run since my marathon. I can't tell you how long distance wise that is as I was running circles on an old golf course. According to the city of Franklin's website it was labelled as a greenway with a 2 mile loop. But the golf cart trails were not connected.
My plan is to be in training from now until the race the end of September. I really want to go more slowly and progress as my body is ready.
I went to a local running store to try on several shoes. I couldn't decide between Saucony triumph and Asics gel nimbus so I think I will probably get both and rotate with my Ghosts. They sell Newtons there but I didn't try any on. The forefoot looks really weird with these cleat like things to keep you from landing on your heel.

Okay, I am officially committed to the 2011 Akron Marathon. :scared07:
WOOHOO, MM!! For someone feeling a little down, you sure did an exciting thing. I hope your sister does sign up too! :cheerleader:
Well said MM....Lisa was right there with me for my very first half (the Princess) and wouldn't go ahead when she could have had a much better time.
Awww, I'm getting all verklempt! :goodvibes: :hug1: I so enjoyed doing the first Princess race with you, Gail!

I am so glad you are healing - no frozen shoulder for you, okay?! :thumbsup2:
I hope your dad decides to join you in the Mickey, DG!!!
Oh, and Gail, that baby gorilla is adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm in major detox from Disney and beginning a major quest for 2011 to release some unwanted weight! Nothing sweet or worthless carb junk has passed my lips since Thursday am. :yahoo: The water and dessert weight from WDW is officially gone, lol! Now, I have to work on the pounds gained from all the previous Disney trips...

My goal is to BQ in them, and hopefully be 10 lbs lighter so I don't get pulled from the course for indecent exposure. ;)
Our dates for the trip are likely to be arrive on Jan 5, depart on Jan 11. This is what we do every marathon trip although I would dearly love to have Rozzie's dates :D
Are those shorts actually called exposers or is that a Rozzie name, LOL?!! I'm not sure why this statement hasn't brought The Viking out to play!! :viking:
Nono, I give up. I searched the thread for 20 min's looking for the link of the book challenge. Share it again? I googled it and came up with like 10 pages of different book challenges. TIA! :)

Oh they are the name I gave them. They are Pearl Izumi shorts.
So, every day since Goofy I have felt great body wise. No pain, nothing. (except head cold) Well yesterday I am lounging about being lazy in recliner and wake up to incredible left hip pain. I feel like it's not my piriformis but actually the ball in the socket. Who in the heck injures themself sleeping in a recliner? I am hoping beyound hoping that it's something my sports guy can pop back into place. Nothing is relieveing it, not yoga, roller, ice nothing.
So no more time off for me between cycles. I really think what contributed to this was me taking so many days off and stiffening up. My body just can't handle sitting still and being inactive.
I know I am supposed to not run til' tomorrow, but about to go and just do some light strides in front of the house and see if this is one of those weird things that running can help. (yes Virginia, I have had weird things go away WITH running! ;)) No matter what, I am crawling into my sports guy tomorrow. I don't know why I am freaking out, but can't help but think this might be something big. :(
Lisa, good for you on the eating! We had one last bday celebration last night at Longhorn (I love their shrimp appteizer) and today starts our get serious about eating plan. I am hoping to have good solid 5lbs off by March. :fingerscrossed:

That is so weird, Rozzie! I have also been doing great since the marathon. Then, I woke in the middle of the night on Friday (yes, I was sleeping too, lol) with right hip pain!!!!!!! :oweye: Its not piriformis either definitely socket area joint pain. I finally took a pain med in the afternoon yesterday and I still have some pain today. I refuse to believe yours is serious...remember...you did a Goofy and you will probably have a few more things crop up during recovery! :hug1:

Gail-I'm glad to hear the arm in feeling better!
MM-Great job on signing up for Akron!
So I went to this super fancy Top Chef restaurant last night Volt (which saved me from the agony of watching the Ravens lose). It was good, but not great. Lots of whipped air and dehydrated food. For $90 a head, I expected it to be GREAT!!! Is it bad that I found myself thinking 'you know, Jiko was better.' ;)
I feel like the whole team deserves a big :hug1: this morning!

Back from Rozzie's running injury clinic. First I put on my exposers with my too long Mickey marathon shirt. (accountability) Then I decided to first start out with my precisions that I wore in Goofy for shoes. Inserts still in them from race. Ran about a mile with weirdness, new knee pain, blah. Arrived at Soccer fields. Took off shoes and socks. (40 degress and grass wet, fun!) Did barefoot strides. Tadadaaa no pain. No weirdness. Put shoes back on and pain was much less than before. Ran home, and put on my new adidas flats. No inserts. Felt great, and light. Some weird stiffness in some places, but I could already tell my feet were having less contact with ground. Did some yoga when I got home, weirdness went back into hip.
So my official diagnosis. Left hip weirdness related to misalignment of pelvis, secondary to falling asleep weird in recliner with 2 dogs in lap. Inserts that are supposed to position into alignment are pushing me more out. I will go to sports doc tomorrow and see if I am correct or not. All I know my mood is 100% better. I may have a longer lay off than I anticipated, but I think it's not terminal. :p
Rozzie, the amount of aches and BIG FREAKIN' pains I've felt over the last 30 days are truly amazing. The worst? Woke up with a white hot pain in the side of my big toe. Like, seeing the white light in the tunnel from the pain. Nothing relieved it but time (30 minutes -- I timed it).
I rolled over, had a good laugh, and went back to sleep. Remember, every cell has memory (I can't remember if they teach that in Western med, but my now-retired* MD/trained-in-China-acupuncturist taught me that). That darn toe had probably been holding back that pain for some time. All the rest gave it a chance to come out. Sometimes, the pain is not the symptom of anything, but simply a release. So, if your sports doc doesn't find anything, don't fret. :goodvibes:
*I'm still mad at him about that btw!

CN, not that Mr. Nono and I hold grudges, but there's a couple places in NYC that we still talk about as being that kind of disappointment! Off topic, Replaced a leaking supply valve I discovered yesterday under our kitchen sink after church this morning. Very convenient that I pass that Home Depot on my normal route! :D As far as I can tell it was a slow enough drip that although things were damp no real damage. We are hoping to get a new sink / faucet (old one drips unless you get the handle in just the right spot and a parts kit I bought increased the sweat spot I think but straight down still isn't off... :mad:) / water filter set right after Christmas, but then found out DW's part time side-work that was cut back two weeks ago is now pretty much gone completely effective 2 days ago... However, I am hoping for a decent tax refund (about the only upshot of having less income than the previous year! :silly:) and we are both up for our annual revues and my annual bonus, so with a little luck things will be back on track and we can do the home upgrade [and continue paying the bills & taking vacations! :scared07:] Doing two other things that ought to help; installing "dual flush" conversions in the two toilets we usually use (not bothering with the one in the garage) and am trying to do a mortgage refi if I can- maybe the HARP program will help! ;) {I'm probably underwater, at least a little. :blush:}
Anyway, my parents called while I was typing this, they are taxiing at MCO now; shouldn't be long until ME! Wish *I* were there... :p I plan to swim this afternoon after brunch DW is making apple pancakes. Catch everyone later!

Lisa, how do you sleep? I get lectures all the time from my sports guy about how I drive and how I sleep. Evidently girls with "blessed" (what he calls my body structure) hips are prone to piriformis/hip/pelvic issues. We need to be sleeping in alignment, not on side with one knee up--the way I have been sleeping for years. Also driving, I am to take a pillow with me and and use it to prop my bad hip to be straight. I tend to let my leg fall out of alignment while driving down the road. Just food for thought.
DG, refund? If I break even it will be like winning the lottery around here. :fingerscrossed: Have a nice swim. :)

Lisa, I hope you didn't take offense to the hips comment! That was totally directed at me. I have been told by nearly everyone that gets paid in the health arena that I do not have the ideal runners body. I have some insane wide hips that are misapportioned to the rest of my body. To be honest, I don't even notice if your hips are narrow or wide--and its not really related to weight. Its more like your actual bone structure. 1940s actresses were not marathon runners for a reason. (Not that I look like them LOL!) The perfect womans body for running? Basically one that looks like a boy! Flat chest and narrow hips. I have read that is why Japanese marathoners can rack up insane weekly mileage without injury. They are naturally gifted in body type, for the most part.

Roz, is that the angulation issue? I always believed that, but a couple years ago, watching either Boston or New York, there was an African woman (forget which nation) which had the most pronounced angulation I've ever seen. She was a front-runner elite, so we should try to figure out who she is and get her training plan!

Actually my ITB will ache if I've slept with my knees flexed.
I was told yesterday by the running coach at the shoe store that the fact I supinate a little bit and have somewhat bowed legs helps compensate for my feminine Q angle. We also rehashed the well known but never learned lesson that doing too much too soon contributes to the majority of injuries. I'm really wanting to do better this time I promise!

Waste? How about the biggest highlight of my day was showering. Mmmmn, no pudge brownies. I need to add that to my cheat day menu. I have been making them with greek yogurt, walnuts and chia seeds. Yummy. Mr Roz and I are at kitchen table, he is making running schedule out til' May, and I am making menu out til Feb. Getting back serious. I got goals all over the map, but I want to lose 3 lbs by next month. June has a goal weight, then Oct, tadatdaada, race weight is 125 lb or bust. So that means being 13 lbs lighter than I am currently, or 5lbs lighter than when I was at AF.
Okay, I am rambling and I am being paged....
Beth, sure you don't want a little hip meat?

I even made it to the gym for 45 minutes on the ellip and stretching. Then we had crockpot white chicken chili for dinner. Now it's time for the Golden Globes. Ah, a three day weekend! :D

CN I got Felicity for my 21st birthday. I had always wanted an American Girl doll as a child (you know back before they were a big franchise and were owned by the Pleasant Company) but they were always too expensive. By the time I did get one all I did with her was sit her in a chair. I figured it would be better if I gave her to my cousin who would actually play with her and so I did this past summer. I had initially planned to hang on to her until I had a little girl of my own but if that ever actually happens it won't be anytime soon.

I actually have four AG dolls. I got my Kirsten doll for Christmas the year I was 7. Man, I took her everywhere. My best friend had one too, and we lived in the woods by a reservoir and we drug those dolls all through the woods while we played pioneer girls. I got a few more as a kid and then my mom bought me Elizabeth this year for Christmas (she was being retired). I'm quite attached to my dolls. My niece really, really wants my dolls and their stuff, but I can't bring myself to give it her. I'll buy her stuff for her two dolls...but yeah, I love my dolls.

Did ya'll know there is a AG runner doll somewhere out there? I bet my cousin (who is AG obsessed and is a senior in college) that she would not be able to find one. She posted a link to one to somewhere on my FB page. I played with a AG doll for the first time this Christmas. This same cousin had her crew all out at Christmas. I was never a doll person growing up, so I think I don't grasp the whole obsession. But man, if I could invent something like that! The prices!
Ran 3 miles in my Nike Free's this morning. First time ever. Lot harder than I thought it would be. Good thing is that I did not have any hip pain at all. :thumbsup2:

About the check the upstairs DVR and work out; crunches, ellip, squats (I'm still doing 21 each side one legged w/o weights) and then instead of the various ITB stretches I've done in the past I'm going to try some Yoga. I haven't attempted Camel before :scared07: but it looks like it could feel good for my back if/when I am able to contort into it! My goal is to hold 30 seconds of each of these and repeat the series 3 times:
· Pigeon – left [ITB problem leg] forward
· Pigeon – right forward
· Plank
· Camel
· Salutation Seal
Hope there isn't some good reason NOT to do that sequence (no particular transitions planned...) or if it is a bad idea I'll realize soon enough into the attempt to not hurt myself! :fingerscrossed:

DG, why don't you go to pigeon from a downward dog? Downward dogs are great for hammies, calves and plantar in your feet. You know all those hot spots for runners. ;-)
Feel better Beth! Remember the memory pain?
