so tried a slow run tonight and the right calf seized up 2.5 miles in. Going to ice and pray that the PT has some magic stretch or the number of a good sport massage therapist...

sorry to be such a downer. I'm just feeling pretty low.

Think positive Beth! PT's can do some magic and there is still time for some good therapy work before the race. :fingerscrossed:

JRB- Way to keep it up & glad the knee is improving!

Got in my walk at least, but then I got stuck working past 6 PM. So much for leaving @ 4:20... Figures. Maybe tomorrow will go more smoothly for me both work & exercise wise as well! :fingerscrossed:

Read the whole Boston marathon article and I sure hope they don't change the times! So what if the elite running times are dropping; marathons for the most part should stay in reach of everyone willing to do the hard work. I know I will never get to Boston except as a cheerer maybe but I want my Peacock team to go if they strive for it!!

Well, I am on antibiotics for the toe and looking forward to it feeling better soon!

nono, you should share your secrets for Christmas. I sure am overwhelmed with things to do!!

Roz--I hope they don't change the qualifying standards too much. They would change for the qualifying season starting in Sept, right?

nono - I hear you on the TM! If we had somewhere not covered with ice to run, I would never staep on it.

Beth - Hang in there. Hope PT goes well today!!!!! Were you wearing CW-X? Seems liek you have them, but I can't remember for sure.

Lisa - Hope that toe is better soon! Yikes! What did they say about Rick?

John - Gla dteh knee feels so much better and you are getting gym workouts in!

Ugh, good thign for swimming, yoga, adn a re-schedueld core for tomorrow. We don't have time for running. There was an interesting post awhile back on Runningahead that basically showed how amazingly unfair the standards were as one got past age 60, I think it was. So, while a lot of folks complain about the BAA being sexist, they are actually ageists (discriminatory against old folks!)

So, if they right that wrong, Roz and I will be fine in the long run. ;) Given the lucrative nature of women aged 35-54, I would not expect radical changes in that age group. First thing I'm guessing they are considering is getting rid of the "grace 59" seconds, under which many, including myself, qualify.

That just means we have to run faster :scratchchin:. Even if they lobb off 15 minutes in your BQ time it is well within your reach. No matter what the standards will be, you are going to qualify.

The hardest thing will be getting registered. They will release the new standards in Jan/Feb. Training starts in June. Plenty of time to build the base up. I have no doubt that you will do it. We will take a road trip and hand in the registration in person if we have to.

Roz, nono lives on a sand bar 2 ft above sea level. Technology wise, the island relies on high school students to keep flicking the traffic lights on & off because they haven't figured out how to change them from full service traffic lights during the summer to traffic blinkers during the other 9 months of the year when the population of the island is 7. Earlier this year, the island lost power. The reason, somebody tripped over the extension cord plugged in at the Wally Mart in Rio Grande and pulled the plug out.

But I'm sure nono has all the bases covered ;-)~

Dude, did you ever wonder why we were one of 2 blocks on the island that had power the entire 4 storms last year? :D

Anyway, Rozzie, I ran part of the course today in AC...my d had a late dance class, so I did 5 miles mostly on the course...got up as far as the Tropicana before I had to turn around. :goodvibes: My legs are lead, but that's ok...my quad-itb issue seems to have liked the lay off (with a 9 miler in for just fun one day with good friends!). Lungs no issue with the rest.

The PT said the lower leg pain is my tibial muscle which is way tight, probably due to over pronating. So i've got a new pair of insoles, some stretches, and an order to not run til Saturday and to keep it relatively short (6 instead of 10).

Good thing I've got a potential winter storm to track and keep me busy...

Broke out another Christmas present. In 30s with gusty Northern wind so I thought it would be perfect morning for my new Under Armor Cold Gear 1/4 zip. (sounds kinda like Red Ryder BB Gun....) It is an absurd price, Rozzie but I find myself coveting them. Did you read about the almost "no seams" improvement? While I love how my stabilyx keep me healthy, I don't love the minor chafing at many of the seams. After a couple long runs, I had pinpoint scabbing on the front of my legs and at the waistline! :scared07: It doesn't hurt at all but my skin surely isn't very silky, LOL!! :rotfl2:

I'm so sore it hurt to roll over in my sleep. Oh boy, can I relate, jrbdad! You are a very funny man too!

Carrie, the foot doc basically just wanted him to come in; he didn't want to guess, understandably. Rick wouldn't be able to see him until after New Year's though because the doc is only in on tuesday next week... I'm not keen on it yet because my massage therapist said his pain improvement is a very good sign that he is healing. She also offered to see him on an emergency basis. His appts. are all like that because he really can't know ahead of time when the weather for his flying schedule will free him for an appointment. :oweye:

Congrats, CN, on your great news from your PT :yahoo:

Roz, I bought myself one of those last month and I haven't worn it yet! I got mine at the UA Factory House (where they sell UA stuff at great prices) and unsed my sis's BF's 25 percent off friends and family discount. So it definitely sweetened the deal some! Tritheletes! Seriously, tights look cheap compared to a bike and similar to wetsuit. :( OK, I hadn't talked myself into regular CW-X yet (40% pay cut due to only working 3 days'/week for 9months....), but man do those look like tight I need! *drool*

Nearly $200 can buy a LOT of Body Glide... :scratchchin:

Hit the mill 30 min. this AM uneventfully! Think I'm going to redo my spreadsheet for the new intervals & speeds to get a logner total time that will exceed 10 miles at least twice before my April race.

I've also got gifts to wrap. 2 for DW that are surprises. She said not to wrap the ones she picked out and in the case of some scrapbooking stuff even purchased for herself while she was already out shopping... (Not my idea; she asked if I'd mind if she just bought it since she was there, so I said "Guess not" :confused24:). We will probably split the rest, and I need to write and print up a "Gift Certificate" for my bro. & sil for their K4C Hurricanes race shirts I'll get printed for our marathon relay team. We haven't finished the design yet so I couldn't have a physical shirt, but it will be easier if I order them for all of us so I've declared that "they'll make great (belated delivery) Christmas presents". :silly:

I know you don't need to bear my daily workouts - but it's nice to have an "accountability group" :)

Quick, light workout on the weights - focus on abs - since that was the only part o my body that wasn't sore.

Then elliptical on interval for 30 minutes alternating forward and backward at each interval. Backward is tough!

Still sore and knee is a little sore - but overall - so far so good.

Will try to get a good workout in tomorrow, because I'm taking the weekend off.

So with the sappy stuff out of way, it's time to have one last day of my 2 week foodabration. 15 miler turned into a 14 mile progession (rain), and the menu calls for this morning Mickey Blueberry Waffles (organic batter), Bacon in honor of my bro DG, Bailey's and Coffee, and fresh fruit so Beth won't think too horrible of me. I have no idea what has been going on with everyone basically since I got back from WDW, and I apologize, but I don't have the time right now to go back and check (so, if there are any plans for the marathon weekend I need to know about, could someone PM me?). I've been so tired my attituted is super horrible. I am hoping for a PW for the upcoming half. If it didn't cost so much, I would just go and cheer everyone on. But they already have my money; might as well finish to get my medal.

1. Complete the Princess Half Marathon (and therefore my first 1/2 marathon, just under one year of starting to run at all). At this point I don't know if I'll be run-walking it or running it all, so I'm not going to speculate.
2. Run the Derby Festival mini-marathon the end of April (and then go to the Derby the next Saturday with my best friend from school).
3. Run 800 miles, pushing myself smartly and patiently
4. (now this one, I'm not so sure about, but I'm going to put it out there) Run my first marathon (eek! :scared07:), maybe in the fall? This one is really a step of faith.

Personal goals:
1. Finish losing those last 25 or so pounds (it was only 20 pounds a couple of months ago, but I've gotten soft--literally) to put me at what is the average weight for my height/build.
2. Get a job, pass boards, move to Nashvegas.
3. I need to do a better job at socializing my dogs. They don't behave well when we meet other people or dogs.
4. Start making a considerable dent in my very large student loans.

I don't have any time goals for my running at this point, just because I'm at the point where I have the short-term goal of running without pain. And, since I think pushing myself to have a fabulous time at the ToT contributed to my current state (on top of a lot of other things, but that was the straw that broke the camel's back), I think I'm a little afraid. . . but mostly I'm looking at the here-and-now where running 1.1 miles is a big accomplishment.

I would like to run the Disneyland Half in September, but we'll have to see if my job allows it.

Okay, as to my running goals, I did complete the Princess and I ran all of the Derby mini (and went to the Derby the next weekend, fancy hat and mint julep and half marathon medal and all ;) ), but I didn't really run (or run all of it) my first marathon. But I did complete it. I wish that hadn't been a goal for last year; I really should've given my self more time. As to the milage, I'm still a little under 700 miles so that's a bust. Oh, and I did run the DLR 1/2.

Personal goals--didn't lose the weight (in fact, I have gained weight over the past month or two). I did graduate, passed my written boards (I have orals in September--two weeks before my planned 2nd marathon so I suspect I'll be completely worthless) and move to Nashville. I haven't socialized my dogs anymore and they still act like brats when we meet new people and dogs. I guess I'm at least starting to make payments on my student loans.

I didn't even meet my "short term goal" of running without pain. Ha! Short term goal my foot. That will be a life-long goal for me.

Now for 2011 (mix of running and personal):

1. Take it slower--actually listen to my body, take my time, don't be in such a rush (BE PATIENT), enjoy the journey. . .
2. Be able to walk (much) less of my next marathon.
3. Maybe do a half in the spring, but overall focus on being healthier for Akron. Increase shorter distance (under 8 miles) races.
4. Be more diligent about incorporating cross training. Start strength training.
5. Lose (now) 30lbs (and not just 25).
6. Vary my running routine.
7. Choose to run more hills as the year progresses (and my injuries heal).
8. Volunteer.
9. Work harder at being more responsible with my money.
10. Focus on strengthening my gluteus medius, hip flexors, hip abductors, etc.
11. Exercise more control over my eating habits.
12 Run 850 miles during the year.
13. Cont to become more green and support local businesses.

So, wow, that's a lot. I don't want to be setting myself up for failure. Really, if I could just cont to be smarter in my running, and have less pain/injuries, I would consider it a successful year.

I'm so tired. I don't want to do anything every again. Merry Christmas again!

Thank you & Merry Christmas to you as well! :D

Goals -- we are supposed to have goals? Yikes! I'll have to give that some thought. I know one is to just be able to run again -- the knee is really hurting today. I must be doing the bike wrong -- I did that for 30 minutes yesterday and it is killing me today. :oweye:

Ahhh....Christmas. Ham and Brie in croute twice in one day. And a sweet and salty brownie...one of the most amazing things I make. Finally made it to Delaware tonight...and now were all panicing about the weather. Looks like it could be bad. Hopefully we will be able to make it back to baltimore in the morning. And to top it all off, my tib is finally feeling normal and we might have a blizzard...and can I run in that :-/

Is that possible ? As long as all the Down pedals equal all the Up pedals, you pretty much got it right.

Is "croute" french for "mouth" ?

My croute has been full of prime rib most of the day.

MM, so glad to "see" you! I loved reading your goals, as it inspired me to expand my goals for the year. Not all of it running related too. No set in stone plans for Peacock gatherings but I will PM you to see if you still want some packet pickup help. I do think we should plan to meet up at one of the family tents before the Half at the very least. I know almost everyone that will be down are all on tightly constructed schedules, but it would be nice to see everyone before the race.

Today starts back my normal healthy eating pattern. I might try to do a modified body detox next couple days too. Really overdid it to the point I am miserable. I know at the very least I am doing all lean protein, fruits and veggies for next 3 days. Of course my lazy sleeping in day found me up drinking coffee and reading paper at 0500. I am glad we ran yesterday instead of today. Windchill in 20s now and high won't get out of 40s.

Lisa, did you get any white stuff yesterday? :listen:

So sorry to hear about all the renewed knee pain, jrbdad!! I hope it feels better soon! :hug1:

MM, that is an awesome goal list!! I'd like to do even half of that stuff :w00t:

Well, Rozzie, I did see some of the white stuff. It actually snowed nearly all day!:goodvibes: The only issue was it was wet snow and didn't stick. Overnight, we had a 70% chance of snow and when I woke up, I could a little bit of white partly covering the yard trees and roofs.I would love to see a better cover of it but it was a Christmas miracle, after all. It actually snowed on Christmas day in Alabama!!!!!!! :yahoo: Huntsville got a pretty good bit. We have a 30% chance still of snow today...

John, Happy Belated Birthday!

I'm having a beer right now in your honor! Drove home super-early from my sister's place at the PA/MD border. Caught snow by the time we reached Vikingville, and it's a blizzard here already! (Sorry, I've been watching Phila. weathermen/women for 24 hours -- they love high drama and hyperbole).

Did run 6 mi. with Renee on Xmas Eve. Nice trot! Now, I'm figuring nothing but trouble for my build up to Boston...I better learn to love my treadmill (and how to run faster on it!)

Some of you have already seen this on Facebook, but if not, here's what we squeezed in once we got home from WDW/HHI and before we left for PA. :) Season's Greetings, y'all! Gotta go wax the skis!!!!

Just back from Publix and got some detox tea, fruits and veggies. Sipping veggie juice now. I got 2 weeks to make my body like me again. :fingerscrossed:

Rozzie, it's really not a pain here or anyplace that acts like it knows it'll get snow. Interesting contrast between DE and NJ -- coming through (northern) Delaware this morning, there was no sign of "life" as far as storm prep goes. Cross to the NJ side (Viking, don't read this part, because it is complimentary to our state), and they had a guy sitting in a huge truck, ready to go at the foot of the bridge. We also passed 5 or 6 other DOT prep areas teaming with trucks ready to go. And, as soon as it started snowing, we were passing trucks already treating the roads.

By the time we got to the island, it was pretty thick. (We probably won't plow 'till tomorrow, 'cause after all, tomorrow is trash day! ;)) I couldn't make the turn to go down my street -- slid on past! :D But no biggie, it's a grid, go to the next block and try again!! We stopped at the food store. Many people there, but everyone buying up the fun stuff (pies were on sale!), and visiting with one another, and just moseying around. No one was cleaning the place out of bread or water. And for goodness sakes, last winter, we had most of the island without electric for over a week. People here just don't panic.

Tomorrow, I have to spend all day flagging down the trash/plow truck and front end loader guys  for 3 streets and ask them to make a mountain out front so the kids can sled!

Bacon in honor of my bro DG ...
Hope Santa brought some cool running swag for the team! :goodvibes:

:D re :eating: I happen to be wearing my other BaCoN shirt this morning; it has 3 squares from the periodic table on it; barium, cobalt, and nitrogen. My best friend got it for me for my BD a few months ago... :silly:

As for swag, I did get the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11 shoes off my Amazon list from my inlaws yesterday! :thumbsup2: So now I own 9s, 10s, and 11s. Scarrier part- I tried them, OUTSIDE, this morning! :scared07: It was 23 degrees (felt like 10 per weather.com) but I did a bit over 34 minutes of intervals. Didn't even die... ;) Coughing a tad on and off, but feels more like a cold than an asthma attack. Ran in the street since most of the sidewalks were rather snowy, and I only saw 1 car on the divded side street next to IL's house while I was doing my laps. Guessing I did a bit over 5k, but I lost count of my circles. Clothing and gear was another story; I was planing to swim today but pool doesn't open until 10 and we were supposed to eat brunch @ 10:30 then head to see DW's grandma about noon [So in about 10 minutes] (she's still hospitalized for phenomonia & wacked-out cumadin levels, but is doing better and moved to skilled care from intensive.). I wore a hooded sweathshirt that kept blowing around my face and obscuring vision, fleece sweatpants, heavy winter gloves. Didn't have a sport ear warmer or hat, waist pack (so I was handholding rescue infailer and cellphone since they wouldn't stay in my hoodie's pockets!), or my Garmin even... But hey, I wanted to get out of my in-laws place for a bit and exercise so I made do! It was an adventure, but not an alltogether unplesant one. Given the choice, I think I'll still go 'mill when the weather outside is frightful. But I may redine frightful a bit, esp. if I have appropriate gear on hand.

OK, will need to catch up on the other posts I missed later; time to grab my keys; DW asked me "Do you mind driving?" and since I'm not :viking: I nooded and agreed.

nono, we had the same experience in DE. We got up early to leave the beach. We were on the road by 10, and none of the roads had been touched anywhere. As soon as we crossed in MD, the roads were clear. But then again, we pay no taxes in DE, so I guess we get what we pay for...

Snow does weird things to people. There are people I work with that have packed up their kids and driving 6 hours North so their kids can see it--then turn around and drive home. :confused24: This really baffles me. It's frozen water.

My lazy day has been very....lazy. Alternating between my detox tea and coffee. Yeah, kind of defeats the detox to take caffeine, but it's better than what I have been doing last 2 weeks. Reading on my kindle, and haven't turned on TV once. I will be glad to cancel our DirectTV, it's a waste of money. We never turn on TV anymore. Okay, now I am rambling.

I showered, and went to Publix. Does that count? Oh, and have thought evil thoughts against my SIL. That had to burn some kcal's somehow. ;)

Trying to decide on dinner. Turkey chili, Salmon Salad, or hummus with tuna. Mr. Roz will be home shortly from work, he probably has not even come up for air yet. This week will be their busiest week of the year. Having dinner cooked by the time he gets home is a goal of mine---but just can't seem to peel myself away and time is running out.

Sure thing! Let me just look up my SIL's credit card #. Where would you like to stay? GL? Walt Disney Suite?

Beth, good job on the run! It's amazing how much our food/fuel can affect how we feel when we run. I know my runs have been blahhhh since I started foodabration 2 weeks ago.

Roz, we had the mac and cheese (and the filet, but of course I don't eat that so I requested and got mac and cheese on the side too) during our safari dinner at Jiko. Holy moley, that stuff is amazing. It comes with a red wine reduction sauce that you dip the mac and cheese into that is unlike any flavor combination I've ever had...

So far, 1/2 hr cross-training this morning with the snow shovel. I'm not even past the porch steps. Good luck with the shoveling. I talked to my sister last night and she said it was quite bad at the beach. Maybe the kids could sled down the dune and onto the beach?

I think I started writing some goals before; I need to crunch some more numbers to figure out what more specific #s will be for 2011 beyond, but here is my base:

Usually exercise daily
Avoid new injuries & get my ITB issues resolved!
Finish the 3 races I'm registered for already & any new ones I might add
Train appropriately for the WDW full in 2012...
Eat a fairly healthy diet most of the time
Try again to get down to 200 to 210 pounds and stay there long term??? :scratchchin:
Thing I'm caught up. Hope I didn't miss anything! We drive home tomorrow; 3 nights is a managable stay. Just might make it! (and I hope in-laws don't have a key logger on this machine I'm borrowing...) Later gang!

Thanks Craig. Only seems to happen on the bike -- so, no more bike for awhile. Elliptical and arc trainer are fine, weights seem to be fine. Did the bike on a very low resistance, and still had it happen. I've been icing it off and on all weekend.

DisneyGeek

JRB- Bike probably uses a different range of motion (every different exercise does) bringing your knees up higher / more beant than the others; might put some angular forces on just the wrong spots for ya'... Laying off it and using other machines sounds like a VERY good idea to me!

cloudnut220

JRB--if my knee is bothering me (the left one often does from a 12 year ago ACL tear) biking will bother it. Even if it isn't bothering me, sometimes biking will bother it. So I have to be careful on the bike! Exercise bikes tend to bother it more than the real thing.

So true so true. Oh, yes, Peacocks, grab a garbage bag and throw it into your suitcases. Cut out some arm holes, and we can attempt to stay dry during our 3 hour cattle call corral wait. Chance of rain it's showing now. Which is good, as if it's showing rain 2 weeks out then it will be no rain on the actual day. ;)

I love that picture of the boardwalk, nono! It is actually very pretty!

I don't want to run in 80 degree weather but it would be great to not freeze for the whole trip this time...

Well, like CN, I finally succumbed to all the sick people I have been around. :oweye: I have something - it hasn't taken hold in my head. I think it is trying to take up residence in my chest :( To complicate matters, I am on the tail end of the antibiotic I was given for my toe...:confused24: I worked from home yesterday and may do the same today.

We still don't know how Rick's foot is as he hasn't tried to run on it yet. The whole prospect makes me very nervous...

Last year I froze in Jan. 3 weeks ago I froze down there. Evidence of me wearing 3 layers to OL meet in France....I just remember I kept asking Mr. Jen from Boston--this is cold right? I am not overreacting, right?

3 miles on ice, blacktop, cement, snowdrifts, boards, snow-covered by sand (super big push tide apparently), sand, frozen sand, thawing-to-make-quicksand sand, and I think that's it. Well, reverse that for the run back! :p

Good way to test out my new VIBRAM 5 FINGERS! :yahoo: I think I'm going to like them a whole lot!!!

Got in another 1800 yd. swim this morning. Probably change schedule to mill Wed, Weights Thur, Ellip Fri, then back to normal on Saturday with a long run. Anyway, time to pack & hit the road for the 500 miles to home. Glad I scheduled a half-day off Wed. morning since I suspect we'll get home fairly late! :silly:

OK, first...how'd it go at the doctor's?? :fingerscrossed: for the best!

Second, tell me more about what you are hearing about injuries with 5 Fingers. I can't say I've heard of many (one blog had minor ones from both a husband and wife)...certainly not any more than "regularly" shoed individuals experience per year. But, I may not be looking in the right places. :)

I have actually "heard" of a few, and know personally 2-3 runners that have had some issues with them. Of the latter, I would say a lot of that was user error. Or so it seems. People running too far in them too quick. Not building a base of any kind. Going from trainer to VFF's and expecting to do same mileage and get a stress fx ( who knows if the fx suddendly appeared with the VFF, or was just diagnosed when he moved to VFF, I need more evidence). . My old coach tells me a new "story" of how bad VFF's are everytime I see him in person. (I had emailed him asking his advice on them....) Of course he is certainly biased, he manages a running shoe store. :oweye: So I take his stories with a grain of salt.

I am looking forward to getting some. Only If I keep faithful to my pledge to run more in my frees, do more barefoot strides when it warms up. The VFF's will be my reward for my bday in August. :)

The doctor said early bronchitis. Which means we caught it before it got really bad. And then she lectured me for exposing myself to allergens (dogs and a christmas tree at BIL's house--but what am I supposed to do, boycott family?). So I've got a special inhaler and some antibiotics. The good news is she seems to think it will clear up before the race, and I actually ran today after all saw her (she said it was okay as long as I didn't cough).

Roz, the stuff i've heard about the VFF is the same stuff you did. lots of people with SFX in the metatarsals. I heard my PT talking to someone about VFF last week and so I was curious and doing some research, because I would love a more natural way to run.

It seems that the key is break them in REALLY slowly. Like one mile to start and then build very, very slowly.

Yeah, that would make sense for folks who've never run barefoot. I don't consider my 3 miles extreme because I do way more than that barefoot in the summer. The reason I wanted the 5 Fingers is that since I have scoliosis, it's preferable for me to consistently run with my 1 insole to even up my pelvic area....so for me pure barefoot isn't really the best. The sometimes running tilted, sometimes running "evened-up" had it own set of trigger-point issues.

Roz, I hear you on the chicken/egg issue. Like I say about running in general...My opinion is that running often reveals issues, more often then causing them. Anyway, at this point I'm not planning on wearing them at the Atlantic City Marathon...but they would look good.

Major burnout going on down here. I guess my extended 8 month long training cycle was not a good idea. Okay, I did take 1 week off after AF. Blahhh. Had to dog cuss myself to get out of bed this morning and only did 3 miles. The 2 week break after Goofy can't come fast enough! I am very excited about my Whole Foods trip when I get down there though. Mama Gail is going to freak when she sees my list. (but I am sure she won't be surprised in the least bit...;))

Did you wear socks? :listen: I would love to run in them eventually but I think I need to lose about 25 lbs first :headbrickwall:

Glad you caught yours pretty early, Beth! It would be bad to take chances with allergies and asthma to complicate it!!

Being on antibiotics already worries me about my illness; it could make it worse rather than better. I guess I just have to wait and see. I definitely have chest congestion though :(

aww John. I hope you can run in the new year!

So I've been thinking a lot about my 2011 running goals.

1. Keep racing/training for races. When I signed up for the WDW half, I wasn't sure racing was going to be my thing. Now I'm hooked. I love the focus of training for a goal.

2. Speaking of races, run strong at the WDW Half. I feel like I've had a bunch of niggly setback this fall, but my PT has helped me to understand these aren't deal breakers. I just need to work on strengthening and keeping on top of problem areas. Healthy = running strong.

3. Plan for at least two more halfs in 2011. Right now I'm thinking I'll do either OC Maryland or Frederick MD half and then Rock n' Roll Philly with my SIL in September. I may add AC depending on the schedule and whether or not I do Baltimore relay or half.

4. Add a fourth day of running to the schedule. I know I can do this, since I'm already working out that day, I just need to make the jump. I feel like my body is ready, since I'm not really sore the day after a run (even a long run) except for maybe a little twinge in the tib.

5. Meet some Peacocks IRL!

Sorry these aren't harder goals, but I feel like i'm still getting into this, so even these are big for me! I would love to run 1000 miles in 2011 too, but I'm not sure how to track that since I fail at using RuningAhead.

Roz- Sorry to hear about the blahs there...

Lisa- Hope the cough clears quickly!

CN- Get well soon and FWIW those look like great goals to me!

Got home uneventfully last night. Had fun finally getting to play Epic Mickey 'till 1 something in the morning now that I had Wii access again. :rolleye11: Really glad I took this morning off; kinda' wish I would have scheduled a full day not a half one 'cause I need to shower & head in SOON!

This morning the scale was (predictably) mad at my eating I've been doing since Christmas Eve. I know that lots continuous, multiple-hour social interaction with people makes me nervous and edgy, and I tend to eat. and eat. and eat. :eating: Gives me an activity to do, I like food so it is inherently soothing, and I get an excuse to talk less! :silly: I know, bad habit and not a particularly healthy coping mechanism. Probably do better to become more of a recluse, but I'm not sure DW would like that! ;) Anyway, did 45 minutes on the ellip this morning and felt good for it. :D Now I will try to eat reasonably today & tomorrow, not go as far off the reservation on New Year's Eve & day as I did the last few, and starting the 2nd or 3rd get myself on track. :thumbsup2:

Sorry John, didn't mean to sound like I was unappreciatve of being able to run. The last 2 weeks before a marathon for me is either A) full of sleepless nights and OCDness, wanting to be outdoors on the roads running at hours of the day to get extra training in or B) A complete physcial and mental exhaustion, where all I can do is fantasize about all of it being over. No in between for me LOL! GLad to see you are getting all the great workouts in. You will be out there before you know it. 2011 is YOUR YEAR! :)

Rozzie-

You are fine - I didn't take it that way at all. I was just offering a friendly reminder of less than desirable alternative.

I really admire all of you on this thread and hope to one day be able to work my way up to a half or a full marathon.

But right now - I just want my knee not to hurt. Think I may have caused a set-back - it hasn't hurt like this in awhile. Go see ortho doc Jan 19th - so still time, I guess, to heal.

So far so good on the gym. Alternating upper & lower body each day with at least 30 minutes of cardio after the weights. Seems like I'm sore all the time :). It's all good though - I'm blessed to be able to do this at all, much less work it in during lunch.

Whenever I do get to pound the pavement again, I'll be ready.

you will be ready John, and probably in better shape too!

Just got home from PT. Now feeling very depressed. Last week it was a big confidence builder, this week not so much. The PT was trying to prepare me for how much I'm going to hurt after the race :( He made me feel like I'm really undertrained. And then he said i'm getting discharged after the race. I wonder if that means forever?

Sorry just having a low point.

Rozzie
12-30-2010, 04:50 AM
Beth I think he was probably just doing his job. A PT's job is not to really prepare you for a race, but prepare your body. It's true, distance racing can be uncomfortable, and sometimes even painful at the end. BUT on the other hand, I think the rewards greatly out weigh the negatives involved. I remember last year after the marathon in Jan, Mama Gail had to asst me to the Port-a-let, and then asst me to my table at Bahama Breeze. Yeah, I was in horrible pain, my piriformis gave me pain every mile of that race. But I had a smile on my face at the end! :D So I think it's best to go into a race realistic. Yeah, it might hurt. Yeah, I may get tired. Yeah, it may not go as well as I wanted, but that is all part of this fun game. Racing is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get! :p Don't let it get you down, enjoy the moment! Your first HM!

We didn't get up this morning to run. Alarm went off about 9 times. Slept in til' 5am, will have to do some mileage after work...in the rain. :blech:

cloudnut220
12-30-2010, 06:06 AM
Thanks Roz. I feel better about what he said after sleeping on it...I think I'm just having some pre race anxiety and that didn't help and then I overreacted to boot. I know it's going to hurt--races normally do since you're giving it your all. I just need to keep it positive!

Sorry if I sound like a nutcase! I'm really not!

Rozzie

Beth, I am a card carrying loyal lifelong member of the nutcase club. My mother after all is President. ;)

Didn't feel like banging out the mileage, but came home after work and did it anyway. Surprised myself into having a great progressin 5 miler. Then Mr Roz and I did our NYE celebration dinner out (we have had one NYE off together in 14 years). Too much eating, but it's all good. I've been good all week, and tonight was cheat night. Longhorn Steakhouse. 2 New Castles (each), a shared shrimp appetizer and shared the Filet and Salmon dinner. Then went to Starbucks for dessert (red fat coffee cake for me)and coffee and to talk deep philosophical stuff. :D

Roz, sounds like you guys had a great celebration!

I'm in the midst of baking for our NYE party tomorrow. I got the NYE clock cupcakes done tonight (just finished up piping on the roman numerals!). It was my first time using my new Viking mixer (to make swiss meringue buttercream) and I love it! I was supposed to make bread pudding today too, but thanks to a bread fail yesterday we had quite an adventure running around town looking for brioche. No luck there, but someone was nice enough to suggested a good Jewish bakery where we could get challah! So now I'm all geared up and ready to go in the morning.

My tib is pretty sore from the five miles this morning...time to roll!

Gee Beth, I was thinking myself proud to make some Hoppin John's tomorrow. (is that only a Southern tradition, to eat Black eyed peas on NYD? Actually I don't think it's a tradition, more like a requirement to live down here. I need all the luck I can get next year with my BQ!) I am going to have to email you soon for a baking suggestion. My very own pastry chef for advice! ;)

Okay, went shopping, again...http://www.runningwarehouse.com/descpageWRS-AZNMWWR.html For $42 I can try them out. CN- I'm sure you'll be fine; glad you started feeling better

Roz- Very cool on pre-party & shoes!

MrR- Love those stats! I don't even total up all my calories...

TM- Welcome to the group! First thoughts:

Buy good shoes! Go to a running specialty store to get fitted well for your gait and foot needs. You can probably get some for around $100, maybe wayyy less if ya' catch a good sale!
Start slowly (speed & distance); build mileage over time
Consider run/walk interval training. You may want to look at something like "Couch to 5k"; it is a training plan that was worked for a lot of people here. There are a number of different versions, but here is one of the first links I Googled up: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

Over in Geekland- unseasonably warm weather today- perfect for running! 52 degrees at start, 54 at end. 69-70% humidity. :D Did roughly 3 min run 1 min walk intervals and banged out 4.56 miles total @ 10:27 pace. Tried out the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 10 shoes my parents got me for Christmas; I like 'em! Right felt a little looser than left at first so I findled with the lacing before starting out. High temp is 52 again tomorrow; plan to repeat this workout but using my GTS 9s; might as well use all 3 pairs of Brooks Adrenaline shoes this week just for the fun of it! :silly:

Hopefully I'll add up my stats for the year this weekend; need to shower so we can head to our friend's place for a small NYE get together...

Timothy-

This is a great thread for enlisting help. Basically look at what I did and don't do it that way :).

Start slow and build up. Look at on-line resources for training plans. Consider starting with walking then going to intervals. Check out www.runnersworld.com and consider a subscription to their magazine.

I find it helps to track my progress. Was using the Nike+ GPS app until the stress fracture in my knee sidelined me.

Make SURE you have the right shoes.

Have fun! I never thought I'd say it - but I soooooo miss running right now. Joining the gym and using the elliptical (and other equipment) has helped, but it's not the same.

Timothy--Welcome to the group! I would take the advice others have offered. Start slow (couch to 5k worked really well for my husband--I was in better shape, so I started jogging slowly with walk breaks). Get good shoes. And if something starts to hurt and doesn't get better with a few days of rest, see someone! don't stress yourself out with internet research!

Rozzie

Timothy, John and DG gave you some great advice. Just keep telling yourself that it gets easier. Getting in shape for running is hard, but it will transform your life. :) Start slow and remember to have fun!

Well the 2010 stats are in for me:

1665 miles for the year. Short of my 1800 goal, but did reach my read 20 books goal. (26 books and counting)

Lost 20 lbs! (cough...gained 6lbs back)

FINALLY reached a sub 25 5K and sub 4:00 Marathon.

2011? Well I know I typed out some stuff earlier but today I will declare my goals for 2011 in final ink. BQ! That's it.

But of course to BQ I will need run more mileage, and do more yoga. Eat better, lose the 6 lbs I gained. Run some shorter races, and concentrate on my leg turnover. (more speed please) So there are a lot of subfactors to that main goal. I also would like to start Pilates class on Mondays, or pick up a extra yoga class during the week. Overall, I want to find myself sitting here on Dec 31, 2011 a lean mean fighting machine reviewing my training plan for Boston. ;)

Yes, John! I think you can and Rick and I really enjoyed it!!. Rick has one piece of advice: don't be tempted to go off road in the early race period trying to get around slower folks. He hurt his ankle in the race that way and paid for it for a few weeks. Disney races simply require a bit more patience than other races but they are great fun and are what got me started running...:w00t:

WELCOME TIMOTHY MOUSE!! You have already been given great advice so I will just say stick around and the Peacock Team will motivate and support you along your running quest :goodvibes:

Beth! You are always making me hungry, lol!

You Roz's are unbelievable with your stats for 2010 - really awesome!!

Ooh, gorgeous weather, DG! We had nice weather for our run too yesterday afternoon!

That brings me to our news! :D Rick and I did a five mile run yesterday...and Rick is feeling pretty darn good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yahoo: He felt a little tightness and a tiny (really tiny bit of pain)...it actually went away toward the end of our run and he was feeling great. It really boosted his morale.

My 5 miler was actually tougher than his as I have a lot of tightness in my chest from the chest cold I have been enduring. Still trying to decide if I should see my doc before we leave?? They say most people truly don't need antibiotics anymore and that they are way overprescribed; the green stuff isn't even a sign of infection??? What to do? I'm still inclined to snag an appointment.:confused24:

Lisa-

That's great news about Rick! Sorry you are still feeling under the weather. I've become a major wimp and have to go to the doctor at the first sign of being sick or it just gets progressively worse. Of course, I've only recently succumbed to that -- and DW is very thankful that I have.

I appreciate the advice on the Food & Wine 1/2.

We were supposed to be there for our 20th -- had MIL lined up with the kids and everything and then the whole family came down with H1N1 right before we were to leave -- major bummer.

DW was wondering, "what do I do while you are running?" As soon as I said "shop" -- she thought it was a good idea. We can't finalize anything this far out, but definitely under consideration.

Wonder how fast it fills up?

Rozzie
01-01-2011, 06:49 AM
Yeah for Rick!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :goodvibes:

Not yeah for Lisa! :( So you see green? Sometimes that is a sign of infection present, or your body doing it's natural thing and fighting the infection out. I am kinda anti-antibotic girl, but you need to do what you feel comfortable with. Probably in your case if I was have productive sputum, fever and a feeling things were not getting better I would get a script to make sure I was covered for the race. But you are very correct, antibotics overuse is going to be what wipes us all out probably in the next 100 years. (que 1984/Animal Farm theme music) Have you been drinking echinchea tea and taking some ester-C? Ester-C is the best, as it doesn't escape in your urine quite as fast. Also throw some zinc in there too.

So my New Years was reading the last 200 pages of a 6,000 page book series I promised I would finish by the end of 2010. Didn't quite make midnight, finally finished at 0300. Stomach feels stale from all the coffee was I was pouring down.

IT filed up relatively fast for 2010. You can start keeping track as it reaches 50% capacity. Our race started at 10pm. DW can get a ticket for the afterparty and have a great time waiting for you in EPCOT, lol!

No fever, Roz and with the Lupus I have to be oh-so careful about supplements... I do take Ester C :goodvibes: but echinacea can bring on a flare :( even zinc - anything that makes my immune system more hyperactive than it already is...Immune boosters are not good for me! I do turmeric capsules, B complex, multi, vitamin D, C, Calcium/mag, and St John's Wort though so I am an alternative girl where possible :D

Oh, and Roz, you ARE a maniac reader, lol! I am thrilled to be reading again but I have to be careful how addicted I get to it. For years, I only read actual books on vacation because I would quit being productive and just read all the time, hehe!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR PEACOCKS!!! :cheerleader:

Healing thoughts to all sick peacocks....

Can't believe that a week from today I will have finished my fifth half in less then 2 years. Two and a half years ago I would never have thought that I would have done even a 5K let alone a half. It has been a wonderful experience with all my peacock friends and also with my family. Three generations doing 5k's together is the greatest. Don't know if my granddaughter will join us but at least she will be there cheering on her mom mom, dad, mom and brother.

Hope that everyone gets healthy and stays healthy for 2011!!

Happy New Year Peacocks!

Lisa, I hope you feel better! That's great news about Rick's foot though!

I'm trying to motivate myself to go out and run. I don't think I had enough water yesterday, been feeling a little woozy. I had like three sips of champagne last night, so it's definitely not a hangover (Noel is a different story though. He's already back in bed after our brunch). I need to do the run today though since we're going to see the Ravens play tomorrow! My first ever NFL game! yahoo! :D

I can't believe the half is so close. I only have three runs left!

Happy New Year all!!! :woohoodance:

As predicted, had 53/54 degrees around 1 PM today. High humidity and it drizzled toward the end of my run, but glad I got out and did it just the same. :goodvibes: Did 4.61 miles @ 10:35 AP. Not great, certainly not terrible. Wore my Adrenaline 9s as planned, so 3 different pairs & model years of the Brooks series this week. :silly: Oh yeah; prob. be heading back to the mill next week- weather tis' a changing by me- overnight low today - 22 degrees; tomorrow is predicted 27 / 16!

As for 2010: Logged 374.692 miles outside! :thumbsup2: {Seem small near Roz family #s, but good for me- In 2009 I did 225.11, so I increased by 149.582 miles, or 66.448%. :cheerleader:} (For those new here, I started running March 28, 2009 because I decided I wanted to get a Disney race finisher's medal)

BTW, Timothy- I use a Garmin Forerunner 305 to track my runs and the Garmin software downloads and my own spreadsheets to summarize info. (Oddly, that link is pointing to a more expensive seller on Amazon by default; on the right I see a $128 options w/ free shipping...) I agree with others that tracking info. is nice as are the pacing and other functions on the Garmin. BTW, Don't let yourself get too overwhelmed with potential costs; other than good shoes you can ease into all the other clothing and gadgets as you see fit!

Now I need to go back and read a few more posts, just wanted to toss the above info. out there... ;)

JRB- I agree with the others; register for it and give yourself a hard goal! Don't push too hard in the beginning and you can definitely do it!!! :cheerleader:

Lisa- Glad Rick is doing better & I GL w/ the cold... :fingerscrossed: Not sure what to saw on drugs for it; I try to avoid them, but if something isn't getting better with a week and/or coming off another course of them I'd be a little worried about something resistant kicking up. So a consultation probably wouldn't hurt...

Gail-Nice on the generational thing & I know the feeling about starting up and Peacock friends. :goodvibes:

CN- Hope you rehydrate and get your run in!

oh & BTW; in case I didn't explicitly say it before, (despite being a little envious) WTG Mr. & Mrs. Roz on those stats for the year!!! :thumbsup2: :w00t:

Time to go see what's up w/ DW- a touch after 3 PM here and she's still in bed (unless she was abducted by aliens or something while I was running...) Shortly we'll need to leave for my parents place to celebrate New Years Day!

FYI- I drank a rough total of 2 glasses of champagne (some was mixed into mimosas) :biggulp: and had a few slices of rum soaked fruit cake :eating: last night, so Roz might be proud; that is a lot of alcohol for me in just a 7 hour period! :rotfl2:

WTG Brother! I had bacon this morning! Mr Roz was making our Good Luck mandatory Hoppin John's for NYD and needed bacon for the veggies. (gotta love southern cooking ) So I found some Applegate Nitrate free non feed lot nice pig farm bacon. It was pretty good too! (and about twice the cost of the thick cut bacon!! ughhh) Granted it was so lean it was almost a joke to get some fat out of it. ;) I won't go to start getting it every week but it's nice to have a nitrate free humanely raised option now at Publix.

I don't know who likes to read on here (Lisa don't mind this post if you have a long to do list :p) but I just downloaded on my Kindle a new running book. Already I have a new nugget to carry with me next weekend. Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional. The Book is What I think about When I think about Running. It's by a famous Japanese author that writes really off the wall novels, but he decided to jot down this thoughts about what running means to him. Nice read so far! Hands down though my favorite running book of all time has to be Born to Run. Wow, that book would motivate the biggest coach potato of the world dash off the couch and start logging miles. :)

So far, I'm the only one. One of the families visiting brought it along. But, it moves quickly...just not great to have it on top of the general buzz we had going for 2 days. :oweye: Talk about making it easy to jump on the weight loss horse for 2011!

We also have enough beer to open a bar...and there's no beer in the weight loss program! Double :oweye:. Hope people like drinking a coffee porter in the summer... :silly:

My goals for 2011 are simple: Walk softly on the earth and get in balance. If I am in balance, my weight will moderate, I will enjoy running more, etc. etc. etc. I'd also like to requalify for Boston, whatever that will mean. And, also declare myself unpacked in this not-so-new house.

Roz- Nice on the uber-bacon. :D Interesting "Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional." quote- pretty good timing to share for me. :scratchchin: GL w/ that "typical start"! :fingerscrossed:

My back, shoulders, and calves are all mad at me for running outside 2 days in a row when I'm not used to either at the moment... :oweye: Glad today's schedule shows swimming instead of me being up on my feet!!! :silly:

Drew up my "Phase 1" training plan that runs between now and the Cleveland 10 Miler on 4/23/2011. For 2011 I'm kicking myself up to 45 minutes of exercise (from ~30) M-F. I pulled back length of my next few Sat. long runs to adjust weekly miles and avoid a sudden spike. Will be alternating increases in mill time (9 min.) / outdoor distance (0.84 miles) one week and then a cutback the following one. Those will be between 6.7 & 4.8% increase over the two week prior total, with my peak LR being a 10.08 miler outside or 108 min. on the mill on 4/9/2011 and 18.48 miles that week. All those are excluding warm-ups and cool downs; prob. round up my outdoor distances a bit since I feel the mill lies and cheats me on distance. ;) Time will tell if this new master plan works! :goodvibes: Phase 2 raining in 2011 is TBD.

Oh yeah, we need to nail some things down for next weekend.

For those who are interested, Mr. Roz and I will attempt to position ourselves by the "P" tent for anyone who wants to hang for a few minutes to work out race jitters. Sat and Sun. (I am tired just typing that out, not a good sign...)

Just a warning, we are early birds with the cattle call corral and will most likely start our walk around 4:30. (the gun is still 5:50, right? Didn't really read the race instructions yet..cough..) We need to position ourselves up in our corral to have a shot at our Goofy goals.

Oh, yeah goals! Does anybody have any for this race? Disney is a hard race to have time goals. Very crowded and was designed to take it easy with all the characters. HOWEVER, of course I have some type of goals. ;) After all, a Peacock is a Peacock.

Goal #1 (perfect race day)
HM Sub 2:00 (like 1:59ish, we need to stay on conservative pace for SUN)
Full Sub 4:00

Goal #2 (less than perfect day, body issues, crowds, blah)
HM Sub 2:05
Full Sub 4:15

Goal #3 (crappy day, weather stinks, crowding insane, body issues)
HM Sub 2:10
Full Sub 4:30

The only person I will excuse to put down "just finish" is Rick (first Marathon), MM (who is having a rough time with injuries and new job), and Beth (first HM, recovering from injury, but you still need some goals heheee :D )

ETA: A time goal can be ANY time goal. The only requirement is that it's a time. If you want to do HM in 3:25, then do it! I just wanted to see what everyone is thinking for the race.

cloudnut220

Uno tourney is on hold. Parents are tied for the lead.

DS finished off this bug the same as everyone else, but with a bit more flair. He hurled all over the steps and hallway after I got him all bundled up to go out to help walk the dog. :oweye: Poor baby has never thrown up before, so he couldn't describe what was coming.

Considering I just had this, you would think I'd be on the watch...but NOOOOO!

Oh well, he's sleeping now, and I'm getting ready to Clorox wipe the cards!

Runners do not fret. This is the mildest bug I've ever seen go through people...I felt much worse before Philly in Nov. So, fear not! Plus, I live like a lot of miles from the rest of you anyways!

Sometimes it's good to have 3 goals. One perfect day goal, one kinda good day goal, and a last resort goal. It helps with the aftermath and dealing with the results. :p I got this from Coach Nono. Speaking of Coach Nono...

I am so far behind on everyone's posts I don't know that I'll be able to catch up. Happy New Year, though!

To kick off my new year, I decided to run a race yesterday. Initially I had planned on a 5K in downton Nashville (which would've been so much closer), but a Marine Corps League 5 miler about an hour an half away intrigued me.

So I was running late, it was pouring rain, and I had no idea where I was going (roads on this air force base were really not marked on maps I could find). I pulled up right as the runners were gathering at the start. As I get out of my car I hear "go!" I start running from my car and was told I could go ahead and join the rest. Well, I hadn't even registered at this point, so I was running without a number, with my checkbook in my pocket.

Anyway, the day was grey and cold and a drizzly rain continued throughout. Plus, it had rained very hard so the course was flooded in some parts, and soaked most of the rest (it was a trail race). There were 48 runners in all (which was great) and despite the weather, I had a blast. I had never felt so good after a run since probably the DLR half (with the exception of maybe my 18 mile training run at WDW in October). I walk/ran the race, and still managed to maintain just under a 12 min mile throughout. It was the greatest feeling--to just be glad to be running and not care about my pace or having to walk or anything. I was so proud; I came home, took a shower, and wore my T-shirt from the race the rest of the day (which, I still have some race shirts I have never worn, if that tells you anything) despite it being the yucky tan and hunter green of military fatigues. This is was I want running to be about! I am excited to do more of these shorter distance races on the weekends.

Excited to see several of you in just a few days!

MM-Sounds like a great race! Hopefully we'll get to meet up this coming weekend. Since the Marine Corps Marathon is local around here, I know lots of people who run it and say it's a good race--but it's certainly not small!

First dream about the half last night--and it was a weird one. Disney moved the race to Thursday night and it was a scavenger hunt/race. Very odd.

Love the race report, MM; that is awesome that they let you take off like that! I assume you didn't lose your checkbook or ruin it in the rain!! :goodvibes:

I am planning an early morning phone call to the doctor to hopefully get in. I have kept Rick and I awake days on end with my hideous coughing! :( Just hope he can help me before the marathon to shake this!!

So, I don't know if I even told you that weeks ago, our 18 miler was actually compromised by a cold Rick had. After the 5 miler, Friday, he started saying he felt like another cold coming on! :oweye: By Sunday morning, he was terribly grouchy and since his job precludes regular doctor visits during the work week , I finally suggested a doc in the box. I found him one and off he went. I told him to stress to the doctor that he had a marathon to run in one week! Texted him for an update and he said the doc had taken blood to check for viral pneumonia :boohoohoo: Well, he has it. No antibiotics but was prescribed Allegra and a heavy duty course of steroids with a steroid shot in the office. I was shocked that they put him on a 12 day course starting with 60 mg per day, then 40 mg and then the last four days at 20 mg - whoa! Is that high a dose normal for viral pneumonia? He isn't supposed to fly at that high a dose of steroids either - is it because you could get euphoric?

Well, anyway, my plan is to keep building him up as he starts to feel better and hopefully, I can get better too, in the meantime. I can promise you all that I will be ecstatic if Rick and I can just earn our medals. Considering we are partners who run in tandem, the only way I can do better than Rick is if I have to leave him behind and that would truly hurt my heart...

Hoping you & Rick get well really quick! That stinks :(.

Since finding out I'm diabetic, doctor won't give me steroids anymore as it sends my blood glucose WAY up. I really think the running & now exercise has helped me not to need those shots as often.

Again, praying for you both.

:hug1: to Lisa and Rick.

Spoke. Tooooooo. Soon. TMI to follow:

Apparently, little one reinfected me. Last time I had a night like the one I just had, I ended up in the emergency room for about 12 hrs. with an IV and strategically placed pans for either end of the tract. It was Feb. 11, 1990. How do I know? 'Cause it was the day Nelson Mandela was released from prison, and all the TVs were on all over as I slipped in and out of sleep...I felt like time wasn't passing because it was a total media circus...reporting the exact same things over and over while they waited.

So, the good news is almost 21 years later? I can stay home, dehydrate myself, keep track of my little one who was experiencing his first sickness, and sprint back and forth 30+ times to the bathroom. (I stopped counting after 30...) I attribute that to the conditioning that running has given me. Ya never know what side benefits running will give you!

Finished Day 1 of the Couch to 5k program today. Including warm-up and cool-down completed 2.14 miles. Feel great. We'll see how much soreness sets in tomorrow.

AWESOME, Timothy Mouse!!! You are on your way!!

Lisa - Hope you adn Rick are better soon!

OK, I pulled a hammy Friday. DOn't ask. Unbelievable. Icing, gently tretching, sticking adn epsom salts baths. Have CW-X comp shorts on order. Thank G@d for 2-day shipping and Running Warehouse discount! WIll have those Wednesday. Have energency letter in to yoga therapist who is Physical Thereapist also. Will see her tomomrrow for yoga. It's not awful. Did 6 on it Saturday, again, don't ask. Felt it, butnot awful. Became awful post-run. now I''m a totally freaked out, tapeer mad marathoner. Need to at least stop thinking about my leg so I can work.

Sorry to be mostly about me and my rant. I'm jsut a smidgeon freaked out. FOr the brief seconds my brain engages, I know I'll be ok.

Healing energy coming your way pronto, Carrie! So sorry to hear! Thanks for the well wishes!

My whole body hates me today also. Woke up with knee pain, hips tight, just a general feel like body is falling apart. Massage Therapist trying to work me in, but I don't think it's going to happen. Leave Wed after work. Oh well, and it will be me and my yoga skills to combat the taper madness.

Marathon training can sure be a challenging time, huh Rozzie??. The first one in 2009 I had a doctor visit and he sent me to Orlando with an RX for antibiotics and an inhaler! Last year, I was in a lupus flare - nuff said!! Now this year, acute bronchitis, lol!! I think it is because of the timing at Christmas for all those long runs and its so hard to keep well around all the sickies too

I am praying for everyone as well - Carrie,, Roz, Mr. Roz, Beth, Gail, Rick and me! Am I leaving anyone out? Are you coming for the Half, MM or am I confused/sick? :confused24:

Oh and DG, thank you too! Rick is a pilot and he really must fly as he gets no sick days. They deduct sick days from his ultra important vacation time. Beth, Rick can understand how you feel for sure! I was concerned about him flying with so many steroids in his system. I called him back and told him to be careful not to take as many as they said while in the air...:silly: He got to Atlanta fine!

Lisa--sick leave being deducted from vacation time--that sounds familiar! Noel (DH) used to have a habit of taking "mental health days" but they come out of the same bucket as his vacation! So I've convinced him he should have mental health days at WDW!

So I just did something...I registered for the Philly Rock n' Roll Half in September this morning! My SIL wants to run it to help her lose the end of her baby weight. It should be a lot of fun! I'm also using it as a confidence thing...I will finish WDW, because I have to think ahead to Philly! :D

Gail - yeah, thought I got the memo adn then I got over confident adn jinxed myself. :-(

OK, it got better yesterday after I got bad news from a friend and took my mind off of it. :oweye: So, it was partially mental, but it's still iffy. Had yoga today adn icing adn stretching at work per her instructions. She told me to even try to get up on teh plane and stretch my hips/lower back. Yeah, never thought of that. :oweye:

So, she adn I have an apptment tomorrow morning with an InterX I googled it http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/139249.php

He got to Atlanta fine!

That is the most important part! :woohoodance: As for no separate sick days, starting in 2011 I now get a single pool of 20 total days off- that includes the traditional "sick days" concept and vacation, personal days, 'floating holidays', etc. I can allocate them as I wish. Trouble is, how many do I allow myself as scheduled vacation and how many to keep in reserve in case I do get sick? :confused24: In past I had separate buckets of time; some could be (partially) carried from year to year, some not, etc. In some ways this might be better since I choose the allocation at least...

CN- Enjoy Philly!

PP- GL with the InterX & now I'm forming interesting pictures of someome taking stretching up to Yoga in the itty-bitty coach islein an airplane...

Stomach was not glad I ate dinner last night and still felt all  this mornign so I haven't exercised yet today. Could've been worse to be sure, so I'm not trying to complain too much, but still not good just the same. Should get in my 1.5ish mile Tue/Thur co-worker walk here at work at least; not sure if I will run tonight or not though. Be hard to squeeze in (9+ PM start?), but I hate not missing my first 45 min. of weekday exercise daily 2011 goal so early in the year! Then again, cleaning up the treadmill & room if I hurled while trying to run and/or not being able to fall asleep tonight until a ridiculous hour since I exercised so late and then feeling worse tomorrow also aren't attractive options either... What to do, what to do? :scratchchin:

Speaking of loving spouses (not counting the CW-X shorts at the drop of a hammy), my advice from Scott today: I think you can go home. You have hit your stress quota for the day, and you don't have enough chocolate to alleviate it.

I love my job. Not to mention, according to tracking, I have acclerade on the front porch and my shorts at the back door. Heaven forbid FedEx adn UPs cross paths. :rotfl2: Ireally want ot go home, but I have to work on the project from you-know-where. The Prohject manager sat on it fro 2 weeks before giving it to me, even though he knew I'd be going on vacation. Plus, he's never here and it's somethign I know nothing about. Today, when I only have today adn tomorrow to work on it anyway, after I was strongly encouraged to put in OT 2 days ago, I got a nasty-gram that it's over budget. Duh, people are a bit slower when they don't know what they're doing and they do it worng because there is no one around to help.

John - Makes sense. I just hate to get attached to things tha tgo away. Then again, it's best fr my budget not to get attached to anything new right now. ;)

Beth - :hug1: BTW, what are you wearing Saturday? DH and I (& my parents & aunt & uncle) will be at the start, Main STreet, and just before you enter Epcot. If I can, I will walk as many over passes before Epcot to get to an empty helpful stretch. Will will be wearing our WISH safety yellow. I do hope we get to see you!

Life. We have an early Friday am flight. We head to my parents tomorrow night, as they live much closer to the airport. Have a funeral visitation tonight. :( A mutual friend (to teh one who lost her dh) lives about 3 hours away, so I invited her to come with us tonight adn stay. She's a bit timid about driving and I thought it'd be easier not to do both ways in one day. So, we scramble a bit ot pick things up (luckily we just had company last week, so not too bad). But we had to do most of our packing last night and work is crazy for both of us adn it really was bad timing. however, I was glad I was gling to see this friend and glad to do something to help her, as she's recently divorced.

She was to meet us at the visitation at 6 pm. SHe just called to say she changed her mind and is just going ot the funeral toorrow. I don't know wheterh to be anoyed, relieved or disappointed. :-p I can now follow my PT's advice adn get a walk in otnight adn bring work home and it will be much easier. Still, dh said it best "That really sucks. I washed the sheets and made the bed and you bought grown-up cereal and everything" :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

No, we're not really that callous. Mostly, we're just disappoinetd that we won't see her or be able to help her.

Piriformis is playing games with me, hurting like a son of a beaaaatch today. Went and had 45 min of ART done. Turns out my pelvis got misaligned with he adjusted me for neck yesterday. I came in his office dragging left leg, left pain free. That ART is something else. :thumbsup2:

Speaking of sounding callous, last night DW said she's hoping her parents decide not to visit for her BD (Feb. 4th) this year. Mainly because she doesn't feel like cleaning the guest room! :rotfl2: She added that it sounds terrible and that we have plans already that weekend and also that we just spent 3 nights at their place for Christmas, but it was still kinda' funny the way she said it all...

Carrie--you are too funny thinking I know what I'm going to be wearing already on Saturday! :rotfl2: I'm the girl who change my planned outfit for the day and then the clothes I actually put on multiple times EVERY day :p

If I had to guess though, I'm thinking it will be all black. Since the temps look like they're going to be in the 40s for the duration of the race I'll probably wear my long sleeve UA heat gear shirt (keeps me warm without being too bulky) and either my CWX tights or my NorthFace capri tights. Since it's not supposed to crack 50, I'll probably go for CWX, just for the support. I missed the last WISH team shirt order :-(

Beth - That's partially my fault. I should have done a fall order. The company I had used sinced fall of '05 really lefy me high adn dry adn scrambling last yeat. (Had order fro 4 weeks and then told me they don't carry any shirtsw/o pockets any more.) I kind of burtn out. After marathon I hope to get together with teh company that bailed me out and get a one at a time thing going. I just couldn't get there this year. :(

Roz - So glad you are doing better! MY PT place has 1 person certified to do ART, but I don't know him well enough to beg a favor, plus he's one of the owners. Still doing much better today. Think I will be much, much better when work is done.

Funny, teh Place I went to is where I go for core. I was leaving and saw the eprson who did my gait analysis in 07 adn that I seee at core. She's always happy to see me at core. She looked at me today adn I could see the second of happy recognition adn then you could watch the gears turn. SO funny, but the time she said, "Hi, how are you?" her face turned so serious and she sounded so concerened. Just that moment of "wait, this isn't core class, that means she's hurt." It just struck me as really funny when I watched the gears turn. Luckily, I'm not that bad to warrant so much concern.

Okay I've caught up at least to my Christmas day post so I thought I should work to post a response thus far.

I really wish I had been keeping up because I totally feel for Rick! I know that nervousness well. I also would've recommended skipping the 20 miler and focusing on a good 18 miler as I wish I had taken my doctor's advice to do so. I'm looking forward to seeing him cross his first full finish.

I'm in for HHI! Weren't we going to get a Peacock GV?

Roz I wish I could do Rocket City with you this year but I'm not going to put that pressure on myself doing Akron the end of Sept and hoping for maybe Goofy in a year. I will definitely drive down to cheer you on though.

Joined the Y as my new place's gym is a joke. I gained 5 or 6 pounds just in the 3 weeks after getting back from WDW and Christmas. I think I've finally lost my first half pound though. And I'm starting to run again on a regular basis so my mood is improving. I wish I were sleeping better. I've been having nightmares recently.

It was originally supposed to be my own "Goofy Jr." in hopes of doing the real Goofy next year but given that I have run maybe 16 miles total since getting back to TN after my marathon trip I consider it more my "Idiotic Jr."

It's definitely from curling not from running. I curled and ran today. The leg was more sore curling, this evening, than my run this morning. Something in the curling delivery stresses the muscle differently than running.

Tim--Good luck with the soreness--does curling always make you sore? If not, it could be the running, because my soreness often takes a bit to set in.

Hi MM:wave: I'm ok, thanks for asking...Been sick since Sunday w/sinus, throat, fever thing..I'm training to walk a half that doesn't exist, I just need something to stick to...But w/being sick I haven't done anything since my 3 miler on Saturday...If this crud ever goes away I'll do my 4 miler this Saturday...Still job hunting and coming up empty, and in a WDW funk, cause I have all the time (and air miles) in the world, but can't go and I won't get to see all of you this upcoming week:(

CN- Try not to run into MM too hard, wouldn't want more team injuries!

Got in 2 (instead of 3 since I haven't lifted for a little while) sets of weights and sched. crunches + 30 min. ellip last night, all felt good. :D

So far doing better w/ cough today. Plan to try for walk @ 2 PM then 45 min. on mill tonight.

Saturday I might try to bump up to 60 min. on mill instead of 45. I missed a sched. 45 min. run Tuesday, but did walk 1.5 miles then and hope to today. Therefore the extra 15 min. will kinda' make up the total distance for the week... Normally I just consider the walks 'bonus miles' on my feet, but methinks I'm gonna' console myself with them as adjusted miles and stay on my plan for next week w/o any distance/time cuts. :silly: Time will tell how it goes! ;)

The "curling issue" will work itself out. It's only sore because I haven't played in over two weeks because the holidays. It will calm back down once I start playing routinely again. I had my standard Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday night leagues this week. I've got an in-house tournament this weekend and then an invitational tournament next weekend in Chicago.

I'll be fine.

Move over Mr Roz, I have a new love in my life. The curried chicken salad with cranberries from Whole Foods. Oh wait, this is a running thread, I bettet stay OT. Good news! We got into corral A! Bad news, we got into corral A! ;-) Really going to have to stay on target to not push it on sat. We would go back to B, but after talking to several goofy pros @ expo, it seems like half of corral A are people hanging back for Sunday. Corral A kicks off @ 535 this year. (Holy smokes!)
Piriformis has been behaving, so glad my magic man worked me in yesterday for some ART. We did find a service road that is mile long and packed gravel behind AKV. Nice 3 mile this morning. Enjoyed lots of animals on balcony with breakfast. Yeah, I could totaaly get into AKV! Love the 3rd bathroom in 2brs. Mama Gail, me and Mr Roz all have our own bathroom. :-)

Lisa tell Rick we are rooting for him! Carrie, that hammy will be fine, CWX will take care of you. Beth, rest the leg, smart move you made taking it easy. MM, good luck in 5k tomorrow, relax and have fun this weekend. I think u made a excellent choice to take it easy on Donald.

Good luck everyone! Thanks to the rest of team cheering from afar for us. Wish we could all be here together, it would make weekend perfect. 2012 or bust!

Yeah Peacocks!

Make us proud! Well, really, just by being there and entering - we are proud, but you know what I mean ;). Can't wait to hear all about it.

Any details to share on the expo? Anything interesting? Being a Newbie - I have no clue on expos :).

Ugh still trying to get a room at ssr. I had to reject the first because it smelled overwhelmingly like bleach!

Carb load @ Boma complete. I may not eat again until Monday. The Ethopian beer was fantastic. Yum.

Beth, hoping you got a better room! Bleach makes me gag. Blahhh

Jrbdad John Bingham talks about expos existing so that runners at the end of their taper madness can buy useless running gear. That's about right. Disney's expo will be large because it is a big race. Space Coast's was tiny. There will be all kinds of vendors selling anything and everything running. There will probably be booths for massage. There will be booths for fuel. Somewhere will be a little stage where they talk about the race (good for first timers) and where the speakers will present. Other races will also have booths advertising their races. The sponsors have booths. You can get some free samples of some things. It's big and it's crowded and yet I still enjoy browsing.

Jen I hope the rest of your worries turn around soon.

I never seem to think things through including my travel plans for this weekend. Got to VWL a little after 11:30 last night. I've had maybe 3 hours of broken sleep. And I just realized this morning that this race isn't even timed.

Making a pointless post as I wait in a really long line to have a pic with Woody and Buzz. But hey I have an hour and a half to kill.

Go MM! So how do they maintain that strict pace without timing? ;)

So yeah, decided to get up at 5 today to try to keep my body used to early wakeups (and yes, I realized 5 doesn't even COUNT as early in Disney Race land, but I decided 7 hours of sleep was probably more important than getting up at 4). Only problem? Studios aren't exactly conducive to one person being up and one sleeping. So yeah, I'm hanging out by the bathroom kitchenette.

After our late lunch at WF yesterday, we had a very light late dinner at Via Napoli. It was okay, but I felt like they were trying to rush us in and out. It was an authentic Italian pizza experience--just like the huge pies they serve to tourists in Italy. Prices to match too--our large pizza (which the menu says serves 2-3) was $30! After dinner, we wanted to watch Illuminations but I was freezing, so I'm now the proud owner of a Disney snuggie! I wore it like a cloak, complete with part of it over my head. Noel kept telling me I looked like the high Disney Priestess of a strange ancient cult. I told him I was warm.

I'm starting to have a bit of worries about...and this is going to make at least Roz laugh...my camera situation for tomorrow. I typically document everything with my DSLR. Clearly I'm not going to run with that, but I'm trying to decide if I should even bother with my DROID X (for so-so pictures). Ah, the issues of modern life.

Alright, now I need to figure out how to kill the next three hours until time to go to the expo. Note to self: Next time get 1 bedroom!

Hey CN. In the shoot now. I am a little sad they don't have the disposable cameras this year. I don't feel bad when I drop it on the race course. Are you going to meet up at the P tent tomorrow?
