Haven't ya'll been getting your e-mails? Here is the link...you can print out the map, your waiver and the program for the weekend. They have transportation from all the resorts to the Expo and the races. The 5K course has been changed for ages.

I think I found the 5.3 that you lost! :p Having a hard time with finishing d's schooling for the semester, the holidays, and trying to get my training in...basically I just do long runs it seems to make up for the short mileage days that get missed. Good news is my hip is finally starting to loosen up and I think I have time next week to see my massage therapist.

Hope everyone keeps healing, training, etc. :hug1: to all.

Glad to hear that your hip is feeling better. :hug1:

I'd be lying if I didn't say that I'm disappointed that the race isn't at AK.
Not because of staying at AKLV, but because I thought the course layout would be a lot more fun.

Stimp and j: at least we all know that we could walk the Epcot course blindfolded. And unless there is lots of territory once outside the park....we've all gone round Epcot enough times to know that WE CAN DO IT

Me, too!

Good to hear your hip is doing better, nono.

I had some good news today in PT. I've improved in lower extremity strength and flexibility. I really haven't noticed any pain, and even the tightness in my IT band(s) is slowly getting better. It is possible next week I can start doing run/jog intervals.

I did yoga this morning, and I can definitely tell I am more flexible.

My IT band starts aching just thinking about all the twisting and turning one would have to do in AK compared with Epcot (though I guess it might not be as bad as the zig-zagging they have us do through HS).

In keeping with the feeling better trend.....I ran my first few miles today since last Saturday. Got 4 easy miles in with the beautiful wife. No pain. Felt great. One of the best runs ever.

Glad everyone is feeling better. Can't wait to see everyone In January.

I agree with you CB, I would actually be very ticked off if I had registered for the AK race then given a Epcot race. Disney racing at it's finest, they have the right to change their mind, and do several times. Good thing this is my last Disney race! They have burned me with course changes one too many times. :thumbsup2:

I am doing pretty well physically myself and had a massage today to prepare for my 20 mile run. My schedule changed because Rick got stuck in Atlanta with the weather. We decided to skip church and do the LR on Sunday morning since he won't be home until tomorrow afternoon. I plan to go out and do 5 miles in the morning though.

MM, great news on the knee! I guess all that rehab stuff really works huh? ;) Seriously you have been a shining example to me on how to really recover from a injury.

Lisa, good luck with your 20! I will be out there with you, maybe not by your side but with you in spirit. I am slated for 15 Sunday, I have no idea what to expect these days with my body. I wish I was a good disciplined girl like you and went to see my massage lady regularly. I know Lisa it will be a good run for you! :thumbsup2:

PT is nice for a couple of reasons--I get to be the patient (get lots of attention) for a change, and I spend half of it laying in a bed with heat applied. It's almost as good as going to a spa. . .

In all seriousness, I'm sure the active rest is what is doing it. PT keeps me accountable and gives me direction and helps the time pass faster because I'm doing a lot, but it still is coming up on over 6 weeks since I've really done any serious running. I try not to think of it that way, or that my middle has been turning to jelly again, since I am making progress.

Most of all, I hope I'm learning to take it nice and slow from now on, that the races will be there in the future, and I don't have to do it all and run the fastest right off the bat.

Good news, Lisa! I hope Rick makes it back quickly and safely and you all have a great run!

Best wishes on the run, Jen!

All rooms near start, expo and finish are SOLD OUT for our Mardi Gras Marathon. Crap! I was holding out for the release of the course (released this week) and looks like everyone else did not wait out. Ughh. Did manage to find a room within a mile from start, 10 blocks. $159 which is a good deal for that night evidently. I was quoted as high as $400 some places a block up. Okay, just a little race planning vent, over now. :silly:

So like, my plan of holding out my sharpie and bib for him to sign on the out and back may not be a good idea?

:D

Seriously, I am floored to be in a race "with" him. I know Nono had the honor of racing with him in Philly this year. I am really not into celebrity stuff but I think I will get many a goose bump watching him run by. He is a top notch runner and a person as a whole. His charity work in Africa speaks volumes of his character.

You know, that to me is one of the most amazing things about endurance racing. How many sports do you get to be in the VERY same event as the #1 American in your sport? I love that. :thumbsup2:

Thanks Rozzie and MM for the good wishes on the run!! It went very well! I am feeling pretty good overall. Rick did great on his ten miler too :yahoo: My only issue was feeling nauseated afterward. Rick got fries and saved some for me. I ate them and then went home and threw up three times. I know, way too much information. Has this happened to anyone else? My tummy has finally settled and I am eating some yogurt. That strange pull along the front of my leg showed up at mile 18.5 again, darnit! It feels fine now though.

Great job Lisa! Do you think you might have been a little low on blood sugar perhaps? I have done that before, and it's always been a hypoglycemic thing---or at least that is what I diagnosed it as. As soon as I eat, I get sick, then feel instantly better. :confused24:

Yes Jen, how did your run in the frozen tundra go? :listen:

My 15 miler went very well today. Had a 10:15 pace which I was pleased with, though I could still feel last weekends HM in my quads. Wicked wind on the way back did not help much, but I knew it would give me a good workout. Really trying to put quality miles in since I am still so on the low side of my marathon training. I might have 36 miles this week. Ugh. (I was doing 45-50 for Rehoboth)

When it's been hot and humid outside, and I didn't get enough water, I have had feelings like I would throw up, but I never actually have.

Great news on the run, Roz! So is the pain all better now? :listen: I'm sure your body will appreciate you more if you take it easier for a little bit.

I have been pretty lazy this weekend. It has been cold and drizzly and I have come down with a cold. I managed to do my mousersize last night ;), though I'm not sure how intense it is. I'm going to try and at least take a leisurely walk with my dogs here soon, but I have been bad and been baking all day long. (Sugary, fattening treats + no physical activity = a figure that resembles Poppin' Fresh.) I just have to wait for the chocolate popcorn to come out of the oven before I head out the door. . .

:yahoo: Great job everyone on your LRs this weekend.me

Well I didn't do any kind of scheduled workout or run this weekend but I did do a lot of unscheduled workouts. Started on Friday at work at 4:30 getting things set up for our Christmas party and was running around until 8:45. Only sat down for half an hour to eat. Sat. was the blizzard, so I was out shoveling the dang snow then Joe and I walked to and from the Dunkin Donuts (about 2 miles) in the blizzard. I know we're nuts. Then today I was out again shoveling the driveway of 23 inches of snow. Who wanted a white Christmas anyway? I can tell you without any hesitation that I DIDN'T.

Jen & Stimpy...how did ya'll make out with this storm?

Rozzie

. . .

The problem with that is I have another Marathon in 18 days! :silly: I have been taking it easy, actually don't feel like I am doing enough. I have one 18 miler left next weekend and then taper. Oh and yes, no "current" pain LOL!

Mama Gail, NUTS!! Just NUTS! I can't imagine all that snow. Good grief!

MM, hope you get a good doggy walk in. I am always feeling guilty with mine, especially when I am running and I see everyone walking their dogs. I always think "that is what I should be doing" and think of their little faces all bored at home. But somehow I never manage enough time for their long walks like I used to.

I think that sounds GREAT, not nuts! :D And er -- ME! I want a white Christmas. I love snow -- and it isn't like I get any help from California boy in clearing the stuff! Not one bit.

Rozzie, running in the same race with him is not like really even seeing him. He's just a blur going by....for real!

Lisa, I'm glad your 20 is over and done with! Carrie's is too, right? I think she posted so on FB. GREAT news from both of you!

MM--for me, once the days start getting longer, I crave sugar less. I think it's natural to need "alternate energy" with short daylight days! :silly:

I had a 9 miler scheduled yesterday. Got dressed. Took Renee out and she nosed around in the snow, refusing to start our run. Well I got a chill, turned around, went back inside and changed out of my running clothes! The wind was whipping, and when I looked at the weather, it was 6F with windchill. So, I sat down, rearranged my entire schedule for my training 'till the Shamrock, and did a couple miles on the treadmill instead.

I'm now scheduling my long runs as the first run of the week on Monday. That way, I have Wed. and Sat. to make it up if something goes wrong. Like motivation. In the really cold weather.

I did get in a fairly brisk 20 min walk in the snow last night. I'll be excited when I finally get the go-ahead to start running again--I'm looking forward to running in the cold.

Roz--I wish my dogs could run with me like my sis's dog does with her, but mine are smaller and after about a 20 min walk are done for. I do feel guilty choosing running by myself over walking with them, so I try and throw the toys around for them to retrieve.

nono--I think my body is all cave person when it comes to fall/winter. Despite have modern conveniences like heat, for some reason it still thinks it needs to store up for a long winter fighting wooly mammoths or something.

It's kinda funny--I think I'm finally okay not running and being behind on my half-marathon training. I may not be able to run the full 13 miles in March, but it will be wonderful just being in a race with my sister. I just need to keep this attitude for the next 11 weeks so I don't push myself beyond what I should and injure myself again.

Well, I have to admit, it's not what I had in mind when I prayed for a speedy recovery (if you can call my pleading, almost demanding praying). But, I think it will be better in the long run.

Since I mention run, and long ones at that, the physical therapist seems to be saying that I might try running when I come in on Monday. This week, I've been so busy finishing up projects for Christmas I haven't been good at working out at all. Plus, with my cold, I find it hard to breathe at times. I had hoped to be able to make it home today, but I'm behind on my work, so I'll have to drive tomorrow.

A Festivus for the Restofus--though, based on what I've heard about your family, Roz, it seems like every gathering might be like Festivus (minus the pole). ;)

I had a pretty good time at home. My mom has a pretty decent recumbent bike, so I got in more cross-training than I had in the past week.

My sister and I are officially registered as a sister/sister team for the Princess!!! It took us forever to decide on a team name, then when we tried to enter it on the registration page, we found out we couldn't use it because we are limited to 12 characters . So we went with our back-up.

She gave me one of my best Christmas presents--a personalized jersey for the race! I had thought of making her one for the Princess, but didn't in a million years ever believe she would wear it. And then she turned around and made us matching ones (bright pink, none the less)! It is so cool--and I am really looking forward to the race. Even if I have to crawl across the finish line.

(Sorry, Peacocks, but my sis gets priority over you all. I will wear my little peacock feather on my shirt, though, 'cuz you all are important to me, too! Did I tell you all I used you--or showed the ToT pic and mentioned you all--in my recent presentation before the whole department?)

Thanks, everyone, for the well wishes. I need to stretch, then I hope to walk in the snow a bit before heading to PT.

Oh, and I also bought an iPod nano last week when they were on sale at Walmart (I got a free $50 iTunes gift card with it). My sister says she hasn't found a good armband for hers--they break or they collect sweat in them around the iPod--so I was wondering if anyone here has had any success?

Cliff notes anyone???

Panic is starting to set in now for next week! Plus my father is going in for surgery Wednesday to get his thyroid removed. He had a positive biopsy and needs to get it taken care of. So my parents may not be able to come with us that weekend. (They were supposed to have left for FL today for 3 months) They're going to try and fly down that weekend with us if they can get the ok from the dr. Otherwise, we'll have a 2br at OKW for just the 4 of us!

Which brings me to my next questions.....how can I pick up my dad's packet for the 5k? He's more concerned about missing out on his t-shirt & pin that he paid for then anything else right now :rotfl2:

Good luck and hugs to your dad, Stimp. I have a friend who had the same op and all turned out so well, but getting to that point is, as usual with surgeries, major hassle. I'm sure that the peacocks with experience will answer your bib getting question, but it might help if you brought his waiver and entry and maybe his hospital intake form....I think he should get a MEDAL too! Speaking of which, we 5k newbies must remember that we have 45 minutes to finish...so we can't be lollygagging around. I know Mama Gail will try to keep us on track, but with so many 'peacocklings' to watch out for, she might need us to make the supremo effort.

Could you maybe still downsize to a 1 bd, or is it too late?

When are you scheduled to arrive? I'm in the afternoon of Jan 6 and j is coming early on the 7th.

Go and print out his waiver for the race and have him sign it, get a copy of his drivers license, and a note stating that he is giving you permission to pick up his packet. I had Roz pick up mine for the Princess.

The medals are for finishers only, but Stimpy just bring a photocopy of his ID and and a written out statement giving you permission to pick it up and you can get his shirt and pin. Best of luck to him, wishing a super speedy recovery.

MM, I have a armband for my nano but never use it since I run without music now. I got it on ebay and it worked well. Just the music was distracting for me, I got too many voices in my head already I guess LOL

Got tied up at work before going on "vacation" and fell WAY, WAY behind on everything here... Leaving IL tomorrow from visiting DW's family. I always get a headache (+ asthma acts up more than in many places) here; literally- I think it's their dog being different allergy-wise than ours, who I'm already allergic to. Dunno. :confused24:

Was going to swim w/ MIL & FIL this morning but my alarm didn't wake me up. UGH! Well, come Wednesday I plan to try and seriously get on the ball to get a jump on the new year. I even got a new pair of Asics 2140 shoes for Christmas to help out with things once the weather turns more co-operative. They are the blue version of the red ones I already have and really like. :thumbsup2:

Now let me see if I can skim through a WHOLE lot of posts here; I think I am still on Dec. 20th! :oweye:

Well, nothing earth-shattering happened in PT today. I did get to run about 4 mins on the treadmill. My IT band is fine. For the past week my left knee itself has been achy, though, and running on it was no different. After showing the therapist the IT compression band I use, she thought it (because it doesn't stay in place very well) could be putting pressure on my knee. So I won't use it for a while and see what happens. I did get homework to try running a little more, or do walk/run intervals, before my next PT session. And starting next week, I'm stepping down to just once weekly. So even though I am not completely pain free, I guess I'm doing much better.

DG, do I need to get the whip out? hehehe. It's hard to get back into things once you take time off. Saying that, I bet you will fall right back into routine and be even faster than you were before. :)

How do I get the results of previous races to Disney Endurance to verify our times for the Princess Half corrall placement? Both the races my sister and I are using for that time have results posted on active.com.

Oh, and stimpy, I had my brother pick up my packet for the RFTT. I made a copy of my license and signed the wavier, and he had no problem. I didn't write a separate note or anything, but I guess things may be more strenous for the marathon weekend.

.

You put the time in when you register. If you have already registered, just bring in a copy of the results to race relations at packet pickup and they will put you in proper corral. I did that at Princess, no problems, and going to do that next week to get out of the wayfaroutinouterspace corral I am in now.

A little hitch in my marathon weekend plans:
I have an appeal due but asked for an extension until Jan 29. They gave me til the 15th. My flight home was scheduled for the 12th which wouldn't give me enough time. Trying to change it to leave earlier, but OUCH, the expense!
Coming in the 6th, ressies fat WDW until the 10th (so I wouldn't lose if I left on Sunday, but no flights). Was going to go visit BIL, but now I either bite the bullet and pay $$$$ to fly on Sunday OR stay one more night an dpay $$ mmore to leave Monday. Sigh.

Sorry 'bout all the trouble, CB. I hope it gets resolved easily.

Well, my goal was to try running last night, but when I got home, I fell promptly asleep. When I woke up at 11:40pm, I figured it was too late to try and run then.

So I got up this morning. I had been given "permission" to do up to 10 minutes. I decided I would do that with intervals of walking in between: good walking warm-up, run for 3 mins, walk for 3 mins, run for 4 mins, walk for 3 mins, run for 3 mins, then cool down. I was doing pretty well with just some tightness until the last 20 seconds--the pain came back.

In all I did one mile of running at a pretty good pace--but it felt right at the time. I guess I could have just done too much too soon, but I don't know.

It's been 2 months. In my frustration, I'm wondering if it has become a mental thing at this point. It's just my ITB and I feel I'm doing all the right things. So why am I stuck?

We'll see what happens in PT tomorrow.

MM, here's another way to look at it. Sounds like whomever gave you the guideline of 10 min was just about dead right! You are getting good advice! The pain tells you that the 10 min is your limit right now, not forever.

To give you some perspective, when I started back from ITB, it was 1/10 of a mile at a time, and yes, as soon as I felt the pain, that was it. Stop dead. Not even 20 sec. of sensation. Just stop. The Active Recovery plan I was following allowed only for that.

It took about 20 days once I started running again to get to 1 mile. I was on a TM at OKW and burst into tears when I hit 1 mile for the first time after ITBS. That was in November, and I still got back in time to make January's half marathon in Disney World. I rarely had to step back from the mileage I accomplished, but the path forward was not consistent.

So I say be confident that you can now do 1 mile with your leg. Ice it. Rest it. Get out there again in a day or so. And let it prove to you it wasn't a fluke. Then you can build from there! :hug1:

I blew off a 5 miler tonight. Cold rain, crap day at work. Going to run instead Friday. I have 2 days off this week from running, wow! 6 miler tempo tomorrow, 5 Friday, 4 Sat, 14 Sunday. Then track, 4, 3, 0ff, 2, Marathon. Not a traditional taper, but since this is not a goal race, we are just planning on "running" through the marathon. I am going to see how my body handles it, maybe if I survive I can start thinking about the 3M3 Challenge in 2 years. My RP has another marathon in Feb, and I have a goal race Half Marathon in New Orleans end of Feb. Then I plan on taking it easy, only 25-30 mpw for a while. Give my body a break and focus more on core work. Run 5 days a week, Core 2 days a week. My plan anyway.

BTW, I think Nono gave you great advice.

The Active Recovery plan I was following allowed only for that.

Now, what is this Active Recovery plan?

I could only do about 3 mins in PT today before the pain started. Well, I don't know how much of the pain it was, as it was more just a sensation of weakness, like my knee would fold under me. That's part of the problem of me running until I feel pain--I'm not sure which little pains I can run through and which I need to stop (because there are lots of different sensations--tightness, weakness, sharp pain, dull pain, faint pain, etc).

I am planning to get back on my regular schedule of running (well, it will be the walk/run intervals) T,Th,Sat, with Sun being an active recovery day. But, instead of running that day I think I might see if I can do a light walk. If not, no biggie.

Now, what is this Active Recovery plan?

Trying to find if the website is still active, but here's a practice that summarizes it perfectly:

http://www.activerecoveryboston.com/about.html

And, the point is that you can train right to the point of pain. Weakness and sensation are precursors to ITB pain. Depending on your pain tolerance level, you decide where to pull the plug. I always waited until I got the "knife diagonally through the side of the knee" pain. But I pulled the plug right then...like a split second of it and stop.

If you get the opportunity, run on a TM with a mirror mounted so you can see your stride in side view. Whatever your stride length right now, you should probably shorten it about 10%. It'll give you relief while recovering, and give you another stride pattern to use in your quiver of tricks when you are fully recovered. That's a very controversial line I just wrote, but heck, it is extremely logical from both a repetitive stress injury perspective and a glycogen store perspective, and folks like Matt Fitzgerald and some of the Runner's World writers (sorry I can't remember which writers) have alluded to this in recent writings.

Let me poke around my archives to see if I can find the rehab plan.

nono

MM,

Here's some of the exercises here:

http://www.physioroom.com/experts/asktheexperts/answers/qa_mb_20051121.php

What else was part of the plan? OK, I ran every other day increasing by 1/10 at a time until 2 miles without pain. Then, 1/4 miles to get to 3. Then 1/2 miles from there. I wore one of those straps 'till about 3 miles. It did help me, but it doesn't help everyone. Then, after 3 miles, I would wear it for the first 1/2 of the run, and not the back 1/2. Then, I got rid of it.

Foam roller. I rolled 2x a day 5 slow agonizing round trips on my ITB.

I also got massage every week of my recovery. Worked on trigger points myself and had professional work done. My massage therapist is a myofascial release specialist, which is useful for ITB. Very weird and very cool. BTW, there was a myofascial specialist at SSR's spa who also worked on me post-race that year and definitely knew what she was doing....

OK, gotta go cook some more. Sorry to pop in and out...

Thanks, nono, for the input! It's so difficult to try and put together everyone's recommendations, since everyone seems to have different opinions. I think my sister and my physical therapist summed it up well by pointing out it's because most of the exercises/stretches/treatments/etc are "controversial" in the sense there just isn't that much evidence based treatment (scientifically proven with studies and so forth).

In PT I have been working on strengthening my core and stretching and strengthening many muscle groups in my lower extremeties. So, I will continue to do those exercises. The running plan sounds good and I will try using that.

I'm still debating on the compression band, just because while it might help my ITB, I feel it might be putting stress on my knee. I've tried running with and without it, and I'm not convinced it's doing a whole lot for my ITB. I will probably leave it off.

As to the massage, I stopped the foam roller when I entered PT at the therapist's request. In PT, they have been using ultrasound, and the therapist started some massage recently.

I had planned on getting a massage after the Princess Half for me and my sister. I will look into the massage therapist there at SSR and try and request her (anyone know her name?).

MM, Shannon is the girl at SSR that I fell in love with. She really knew her stuff and is also a runner. I am a big believer in seeing fellow runners for whatever issues we have.

For those of you who will be attending the Peacock Convention at SSR Dec 2010, Sunday is the day to make your ressies if you are arriving on that Friday. Luckily my personal Peacock secretary already shot me off a email this morning to remind me. I would have completly forgotten! :oweye:

b) Marathon Maniac status.
c) 12 books. I have 4 non-running books and 5 running books already here. Wow, i get to choose 3 more books for the year. Outliers is first on the list.

Oh, Lisa forgot to add, I am putting Scott up for adopton next Sat. I am sending him your way to the bus stop for the Half. I know I can trust you that he finds his way to the start. :D I want to meet up with you for the Full bus stop, let me know what time you are planning on catching the bus. Too bad we don't know any Peacock cheers to do enroute to the start. :p I will talk to Rick about bus stop times. I happen to be married to a man that thinks if you aren't there 15 minutes early, you're already late  We usually show up at 3am!

I had a glorious start to the NY. Woke up early and me and my RP did a 5 miler in a light cold drizzle. By the end of the run, the sun was peaking through the clouds, completly symbolic of a new year to celebrate our health. It's a old Rozzie family saying that whatever you do at the start of the NY wil dictate how the rest of your year will go. Well, I wanted to spend mine running. :goodvibes:

Love this!!!!

Goals for 2010:

Finish Goofy 2010 with a time in the Half and Full that earns me all three medals :fingerscrossed:

Release 15 very unnecessary pounds

Add significant strength workouts to my fitness plan - I will start with 90 minutes per week minimum

Run the Princess 2010 with a faster time than the Disney Half 2010

(I would like to do the Mercedes Half again this year but I need to wait till I get home to make that decision since it is in early to mid Feburary)

:goodvibes::goodvibes::goodvibes: Rick appreciates all the good wishes!!! He really liked those 5 Tinkerbells too, Gail! :goodvibes::goodvibes::goodvibes:

Rick- Get well soon! :fingerscrossed::pixiedust:

Roz- any marathon still scares me!!! ;)

2010 Goals:

Get down to <=210 pounds by year end (this morning I was at 249.6 or something like that! At my lowest in early [mid?] 2009 I was 214.8!!!)
Run a 10k on 10/10/10 :D
Exercise 6-7 days a week most weeks of the year
Eat healthier, like I had been for the last half of 2008 and first of 2009...

Uh, I feel like I'm missing something but I'm not sure what... :scratchchin:

Is your RP going? What is Scott running? I'd at least wait until you see how you are recovering from the Disney Marathon.

nono is doing her two on back to back weekends!! She'd probably say no problem, lol!

Scott is doing his first Full. My RP is actually running a Full the weekend before, the Donna Breast Cancer one In Jacksonville.

Oh I plan on not making any decisions till after Disney. The scary part is that my running is going great right now--like best runs ever. I know though it will be a whole different animal after next weekend. Another issue is I am having a dear life long friend from Houston meet me in NO, it's her first HM. Just got a call from her last night, her DH is a complete control freak and is trying to prevent her from coming to race. What a $*#&@! It's a new marriage, and not a good one at that. I promptly hung up the phone with her last night and texted Scott, thanking him for a wonderful marriage and always supporting my crazy dreams. He texted back :confused24: and asked what did he do. I couldn't help but laugh.

Anyhoo, if she is not coming, then I am more tempted to do the Full. I may not find out either way until right before race, so I might just be stuck doing the HM. Not that there is anything wrong with that of course. Just Mr Roz's beaded bling will be nicer than mine. We need a jealous smiley--:p Okay sorry to ramble....

DG, great goals! I also need to shed some excess layering. My skinny jeans don't fit anymore. Well they do, but I have to crawl on floor like a snake to move around in them. I am joining a team for the ScaleBackAlabama challenge. We have two teams of 4 at work getting ready. We split the teams up and put two heavy into exercise people with 2 people who are not currently on a healthy eating and exercise regimen to make it fair. Each team member has to lose 10 lb by April, then our names get put into a hat to win prizes, $50 all the way up to $1000. I think this will be the perfect accountability thing for me. I have gotten too lax in my eating. I still do okay most days, but really been suffering from a sugar binge thing when I do jump off the wagon. Not good for my migraines either.

Okay rambling again.

Okay, race talk. Who is wearing what? Right now Full looks to be in 60s. I will wear my good luck Rehoboth shorts and Peacock Rozzie singlet. Rehoboth Beach Visor. (lost my navy visor in HM a few weeks ago....) My new pink Moeben arm sleeves. I love those things. They slide down and fold up on my wrists when I get warm. No tossing them to people on sidelines. I plan on having throw away clothes on top of course. I just get soooo cold standing around in those corrals for so long.

Someone please write up and agenda for me for next weekend! I am so lost & disorganized right now :boohoohoo:

DF is fine after his surgery. The day he came home he was already running up to the firehouse to show the guys his scar

Does anyone know if it's possible for DS to take my DF place in the 5k? Just wondering since it's already paid for. Sean is doing the Mickey mile anyway (& DD is doing her 400 meter too LOL) Friday morning is going to be a busy day for us!

Count me in for the Bahamas Breeze..DH is going to owe me big time by then :covermouth:

Rozzie
01-02-2010, 09:13 AM
Stimpy, just pick up DF's bib with his signed waiver with photocopy driver licensed. Slap that bib onto Sean, and waaallaaa a new 5K participant. He will be running under DF's name though. Glad to her your dad did okay with his surgery. Sounds like a real trooper! So does this mean he is coming or not coming? I see why you are overwhelmed, sounds like it's crazy up there!

I also wanted to invite everyone to our Villa after the HM for breakfast. I am making a breakfast casserole the night before and will cook it after the race. When I said we are going budget this trip, I really meant budget LOL. Cheaper and better than going out on property. Just let me know how many folks want to come so I can see how many I need to make. :eating:

After the full, how many people are interested in Bahama Breeze? No worries, no reservations, but just planning cars.

I'd love to go to Bahama Breeze with you all....and hopefully, if Jiggerj is still here, she would too. What time? And I'd love to do a post half breakfast at your place IF you let me bring something. I'll be staying in a hotel room, so I'll have to either buy pre-made or make it at your unit, but since I'm not running, only cheering, I'll have plenty of time!:D

Well I am just planning this off my hip. What time do yall think?? What time is the half? 540 too? So let's say 6am, plus 3.5 hours for everyone of all time goals to finish. 11am?? To bring, maybe just some juice and extra muffins. The casserole will have eggs, cheese, sausage and cresent rolls all baked together. Not fat free LOL!

Bahama breeze Jigg is @ crossroads. Very good food and great drink selection. Not too pricey either and has Carribean flavor food.

For those of you who will be attending the Peacock Convention at SSR Dec 2010, Sunday is the day to make your ressies if you are arriving on that Friday. Luckily my personal Peacock secretary already shot me off a email this morning to remind me. I would have completly forgotten! :oweye:

Did I miss something? Or is this the name you've given the half marathon in Orlando???

Good to hear about all the great runs you're having, Roz! That is soooo exciting! Yea!!! :cheerleader: :yahoo:

And thanks for the tip on the massage therapist. I'll have to figure out how both my sister and I can see her--maybe we can trade off getting pedicures or something. Or, I know SSR also has hydrotherapy. :scratchchin:

MM, I'm not telling you what to do -- just putting out there what happened to me. I figure you can take what makes sense and discard what isn't pertinent to your situation. ;) If one little thing I write makes a difference, I am happy to have written it all out for you. :)

Oh, I definitely didn't think you were trying to tell me what to do. It's just that everyone seems to have something that worked for him or her and it's all different (and sometimes in contraditiction to someone else) and since I'm impatient, I want to try it all to try and find the "quick fix." :silly: I really appreciate your (and everyone's) input.

I signed up for the Goofy last February, MM, and I have never looked back. I do have issues with pain but I have been preparing for both races. I even did a back to back 9/18 several weeks ago that I posted about :yahoo:I am very nervously excited though and truly hope I get it done. Feel free to shower me with some pixie dust as I am sure to need it, lol!!! :silly:

Lisa, you are so awesome! I am so excited for you about the Goofy. I'm sorry I missed the last back-to-back race--no telling where my head was. You are an inspiration, in so many ways :love30:

Since I'm getting back to my old running schedule, Saturdays are a running day. I got on the treadmill wearing new shoes--the Saucony's I recently bought (jury's still out on whether they are any better than my Asics). I worked on having a shorter stride, which feels funny, since I don't move my legs as much (which I know is the point).

Still, I was able to go another minute, and therefore another .1 of a mile than my last "long run" and I never got the real hard, sharp pain! I did start having some moderate pain, and decided I would rather stick to plan nono had, and have better (and easier) recovery after each run, than try and push it too far and have another set back.

So, wow, YEA!!! This seemingly tiny accomplishment is so huge! I was in tears when I got there. So I ran 1.1 miles, and with my walking intervals, about doubled that distance.

Oh, and also, because of all the stretching I'm doing, I can now lay my palms flat on the ground when I bend at the waist!

All right, in that spirit, I thought I would share my goals for 2010. It is going to be a huge year for me--graduating in June and finally entering the real real world, I hope getting a good job and moving to Nashville, and turning 30 in August! I'm actually looking forward to all of those, even the last. It's kinda exciting. Plus, I'm going to be running! I never would've thought I would be 30 and in the best shape of my life.

Okay, my running goals are:
1. Complete the Princess Half Marathon (and therefore my first 1/2 marathon, just under one year of starting to run at all). At this point I don't know if I'll be run-walking it or running it all, so I'm not going to speculate.
2. Run the Derby Festival mini-marathon the end of April (and then go to the Derby the next Saturday with my best friend from school).
3. Run 800 miles, pushing myself smartly and patiently
4. (now this one, I'm not so sure about, but I'm going to put it out there) Run my first marathon (eek! :scared07:), maybe in the fall? This one is really a step of faith.

Personal goals:
1. Finish losing those last 25 or so pounds (it was only 20 pounds a couple of months ago, but I've gotten soft--literally) to put me at what is the average weight for my height/build.
2. Get a job, pass boards, move to Nashvegas.
3. I need to do a better job at socializing my dogs. They don't behave well when we meet other people or dogs.
4. Start making a considerable dent in my very large student loans.

I don't have any time goals for my running at this point, just because I'm at the point where I have the short-term goal of running without pain. And, since I think pushing myself to have a fabulous time at the ToT contributed to my current state (on top of a lot of other things, but that was the straw that broke the camel's back), I think I'm a little afraid. . . but mostly I'm looking at the here-and-now where running 1.1 miles is a big accomplishment.

I would like to run the Disneyland Half in September, but we'll have to see if my job allows it.

In other news, mMy parents are all excited about the add on (75 AKV points on my membership for $97pp [webcast incentive]; I added my mom as an associate...) they bankrolled and are getting antsy to use the points. Jigger, I had both my iPod and a bottle of water with me for ToT. (Wow I feel so experienced :rotfl2:) I used the iPod on & off depending on what else was going on. I need to drink a lot of water so I had to make sure I had my own bottle (I just use a regular Poland Spring/Dasani bottle, whatever) Plus I was sick last time so needed all the help I could get to make it to the finish line LOL

I've been downing the Emergen-C every day for the past week to hopefully stay somewhat healthy for this one. Doesn't seem to be helping much...only keeps me awake more, which I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not sometimes:w00t:

CB, love to meet up with you both! Still not sure about Sean though with 5K...he'll be the youngest looking 60+ guy there :rotfl2: Plus he has his own Mickey Mile later that day.

I think Tara's and Sean's races are both at 11 am on Friday, which kind of stinks since we won't both be able to cheer them on at the same time.

Count us in for brunch and Bahamas Breeze and probably whatever else is going on between Thursday night & Monday morning LOL. I hear the parks are mega crowded that weekend? Not sure how the kids will handle a no-parks trip, I have a feeling they will win in the end.

We're coming in late Thursday...kids have school and we have to pick them up early for a 2:30 ish flight, leaving Monday afternoon.

Goals for the year? I'm going to aim for making it to 2011  Anything else at this point would be a losing battle.

Did I miss anything??

Oh yes! What are those little tiny pouch things called? I wanted one for the ToT but never found it. I need it for my KTTW & inhalor. Anyone know where I can get one quick? I imagine in the Expo? may have to head to the local running store this week.

I just booked post-Princess spa sessions for me and my sister on the morning after the race with Shannon!

On a completely unrelated note, I think I may have just fallen in love with a Skinny pig (at least, that's what I think hairless guinea pigs are called). I went to the local pet store to buy some betta fish food and they had a hairless guinea pig. I got to hold him for quite a while. I've been thinking about getting a rabbit or guinea pig for a while (I've had gp's in the past and they are a real blast), but have been worried about what my dogs would do. This little guy is apparently a rescue (of sorts). He was purchased from a reptile show where he was about to be fed to a snake (apparently snakes like guinea pigs, and their owners prefer to feed them the hairless kind). Well, I may have to go back tomorrow and get him. . .

I feel like I'm going to have a menagerie one day. Wouldn't that be fun!

Ugh, nono, it's almost that cold here, too. While I'd love to be all cute running around in my tights and fleece, I think secretly I'm glad to be resigned to running on the TM right now ;). I am definitely not a cold weather person. Animals that migrate seasonally have the right idea.

Snow was bad enough I decided not to take the trek over to the pool. Our plow guy came through while I was eating breakfast, but it was still coming down pretty well and filling in nicely by the time the food had a chance to settle. However, I am happy to say I DID ellip today instead so I'm starting to redevelop an exercise habit! :thumbsup2:

In other news, my {parent's funded} AKV add on contract appeared online today, and my parents had me [Online request adding them as associates hasn't processed yet] call and get them rezzies for 3 nights in a AKV std. view studio in Jambo arriving Feb. 8th. Only one odd thing- they are joinging us for three nights arriving Feb. 1st in a std. @ BLT! :rotfl2: So, that means they'll be in the world 3 nights, home 4, then WDW another 3! DW wonders if they will even learn that although my dad found cheap airfare for this new trip, it would actually be a lot cheaper to do one 6 night trip than two 3 nights less than a week apart! :p She also added that she "sees where [I] get it from"... I've thought about all of you, and then I try not to because I start freaking out about marathon. yes, this is #5 and yes I am still freakingout. Weird. Had some of the best LRs ever this year adn still don't feel ready Augh!

Anyway, past few years Lisa and I and some other DVCNews/MO friends have been meeting Friday night for at Ghiardelli's ~7 (let me knwo if I rememebred wrong, Lisa). Just a casual ice cream fest. SO, please come if you can!

Cold weather = faster times.

Right??

You guys will have fun or at least have some good "war" stories afterwards....I hope to hear about them all. (hint hint)

Just made my 1 br ressies at SSR for 12/3-12/10. Had just enough points in my 2011 use year to book it. ;) Rozzie's rubbing off on me!

I just added these to my shopping list to pick up after work today too.

What do you all do about your keys, wallets, etc? I am going alone (DW can't get off work) so I don't have anyone to hold it. I read they give you a bag that will be stored during the race. Do you use this or something else. I would hate to have to go and get a waist pack for this.

I don't run with any of that stuff for a race. Check it with my bag at the bag check. SO far I have had good luck getting everything back. ;) I can't imagine racing with all of it.

Faster times nono? Ha! How bout' finish? Sore scratchy throat, think I will stay home tonight instead of braving the track workout. Going to be 18 degrees! Real feel in single digits. That's like way big news down here, I know not so much big news up there. :p

In other news, thinking of going for #3 marathon end of Feb. Almost have completly made my mind up, but will make final decision after Disney. 3 marathons in 4 months, is there medicine to help with this disorder? :silly: I won't let Dr Nono prescribe me anything however, she is just NUTS--or is it maniac?!! :D

Roz- we don't runoutside at less than 20. 18 down south????? Yikes!

Matt- I pack the room key, money for post- race massage and my phone to run with. All else stays in the room. Never heard of a lost bag issue, but..... cell only goes with on the full. With my family there, I want to let them know if we will be wAy lter than expected. Do usually check that for other races.

Hey, we're about even. It's 17*F here. Just got done my 4 miler. Should have been a tempo. Not today. Little farleking, but nothing sustainable. Gonna call it a base run in my log.

(And Carrie, I wasn't the only one out there -- lots of folks -- including about 1/3 of the swim team parents put in some time out in the wind/weather between 4-5 pm today! Guess we were never told about the 20*F rule...:silly: )

Okay, I am blaming this artic blast on Carrie. All her fervent prayers for a cold WDW marathon has paid off LOL.

I just saw on the news its supposed to snow while we are driving down Thurs. Nuts! I am having to reconfigure my race wardrobe Sunday. Peacock singlet, arm sleeves, capri tights, headsweat midcap, visor. Windchill in corral near 14 degrees! NUTS! Got my throwaway clothes lined up too..

So you can get cast off ski clothes in Alabama??? I feel like I should be shipping you something to use....

I went to goodwill yesterday and bought some $3 sweatpants. I had bought a sweatshirt a little while back for $3 on clearance somewhere. I am going to go to target today and get another dollar ear cover. Hoping to eventually be able toss the sweatshirt at the TTC where Team Peacock support network will be. Oh yes, I forgot the announcement LOL.

(speaking and tapping into microphone) Special Announcement for all of Team Peacock WDW Marathon team: Mr Roz and Mama Gail will be at TTC accepting all discarded clothing.

The irony of the whole situation is laughable for sure. I was on super freakout mode for Rehoboth,, freaking out about every little weather report, impending disaster, etc. For some reason, I am having a hard time even gearing up for this race. I am hoping the excitement will hit me once I hit the first mile or so. I am looking forward to running it with my RP. It most likely be our first and only marathon together so we are holding it in high regard and plan to just run it for fun.

Oh, I meant for the waiting in the parking lot for the hour+ before you start moving into the corrals. It'll be like going to a football game up here. We usually wear ski pants & parkas...

Good strategy of picking items that you can have on all the way to TTC :thumbsup2:-- seems like you'll need it. And running in ski pants is really loud (swish swish swish swish) :blech:

A question for the experts! It very belatedly occurred to me that I only had one pair of good running shoes in the right size. So a few days ago, I went and bought an identical pair of shoes. So far, I have only done a couple of short runs in them. No time to fully break-in but they feel very good. Which run should I do in them and which run in the almost worn out pair????? I know that I am dumb not to have prepared better but lets just work with the facts  :oweye: :confused24: :scared07:

Lisa,

I'd go with the old ones. I ran the Princess in a pair of retired shoes. That were in my Owner's Locker! I believe that's still my 1/2 marathon PR. :woohoodance: So, unless you are getting aches that specifically tell you your old shoes are completely shot, I'd not risk the new pair at all that weekend. I'd stuff your shoes after the 1/2 with newspaper and put them in the sun to help dry them out.

I'd have a different answer if the 1/2 were after the full, but it isn't.

Well Lisa, I do it a little different. I wear "new" shoes for the full. I only wear them once on my longest closest training run. So for the shoes for the full will only have 20 miles on them. It works for me, but I am supoer weird.

Nono, I plan to have a corral layer also LOL.

You'll have the keep the rest of us (though there may not be many left) not down there this weekend updated on all--if you can tear yourself away from all the fun ;)

MAJOR PRAISE HERE!!! Today was a running day--and I really had to make myself not put it off till tomorrow since I'm tired and it's soooo cold. I'm still doing intervals (after a good warm up, run 3 mins/walk 3 mins/run 4 mins/walk 3 mins/then run. . .), and since I'm running at about a 10 min mile pace, would've run 5 mins in that last interval to increase last time's previous distance of 1.1 miles by .1 miles. But, I decided not to look at the TM display and try and run until I had pain. After a couple of songs played completely, I glanced down to see I had run .8 miles, for a total of 1.5 miles! And, I had no pain! I decided I would stop at that point and cool down, and ask my physical therapist tomorrow how much I should push myself. This is soooo exciting!!!

Stimpy, don't let the blanket thing scare you. They always have blankets at the end of most endurance runs no matter what the weather. There is always a risk of body temp drop after you have been moving forward for so many hours.

Don't fret, you are not losing your mind, I think Carrie did put Nono as listed as going. It was just a oversight.

Well we got good news down here today. Mr Roz went and had his groin xray'd to get cleared to run this weekend. No stress fractures, etc. He went to a Sports Med Doc, who is huge triathlon/Ironman etc etc stud. Isn't it great to go see a runner who is also a Doctor for these things? He said for him to back off if it starts hurting, but running the half is not going to help it, or really hurt it. Really the groin issue has been improving everyday but we all wanted to rule out a impingement since he had classic signs... Well no impingement, thank goodness. So we let out a big sigh of relief! He is too young to have a hip replacement. :silly: So he has to do core exercises and go to Physical Therapy. Otherwise, cont with training for his marathon.

MM, happy running!! Princess will be here before you know it. :thumbsup2:

We are supposed to get more snow starting at noon and continuing for 36 hours or so after that... Right now I'm really glad I made my "elliptical instead of running outside" if the weather isn't in my happy range [>=~45 degrees, daylight, no snow or ice on the streets, preferably not actively raining] commitment to myself for the New Year (rather than going 'maybe later today' and subsequently skipping exercise altogether that day as I ended up doing far to often starting in Fall 2009!) and even happier to report that so fat I've been sticking to it! :thumbsup2:

Congratulations on your weight loss, athenna! 7.2 lbs in 5 or 5 1/2 weeks is actually right on schedule with recommended weight loss (if I lose 1-2 lbs a week, instead of more, it's supposed to be easier to keep it off). It can be frustrating when the weight doesn't come off faster, especially when it might have earlier. But I know in my weight loss, I go through times where I'm amazed at how much I've lost when I step on the scale, and other times when I seem to plateau for a few weeks. Hang in there, keep doing the right thing, and you'll get over the hump. :thumbsup2: :hug1:

5K is in the books!:cheerleader: Well actually not since it wasn't timed...which kind of annoyed me since I did 6 minutes better this race that ToT. 50:35...which isn't great but a record for me LOL I stink at race reports so I'll leave them to Gail. Very cold, kept getting stuck behind lots of "sightseers" and general sloooowwww pokes. But we did it! Gail, Jigger, CB and I made it to the end and I found myself saying "next time I'm going to break 50 minutes!" Even though I've been saying for months this was it, no more after this :rotfl2: Honestly, I felt really good at the end and still am now. The Rozzies and the other 3 Stimpys were cheering at the finishline!

Kids did great. DD ran 200m extremely fast, Daddy could barely keep up! And then we couldn't get her to stop running. She kept running by herself about 10 times length-wise down this football field sized area. Next time we're signing her up for the mile!

DS did awesome on his mile! His unofficial time was 10:15 which was actually kind of surprising. He ran the entire way without slowing down and even sped up to pass other kids in his way. He's been prancing around with his medal all day like a real peacock! We're very proud of him (both of them!) but more important is that he is proud of himself. :goodvibes:

Tommorrow is the half and Mr Stimpy(Flash) & Mr Rozzie are set to go...in the snow/sleet that's being forecasted! Unbelieveable weather!!!

Way to go stimpy and family! I hope you have pictures for us (and I think you did a great job on reporting on the race). :cheerleader:

Best wishes on your 6 miles, athenna :hug1: I think it's great that you're training for this half and not making excuses about your knee or wanting to lose weight before, like I've heard some people do.

And now for all you half-marathoners, GO GET 'EM, PEACOCKS! Hope to hear from you all at the finish line. :rocker:

I just realized I signed up to get update texts on runners--I may be awakened at 6 am to cheer you all on :rotfl2:

nono, maybe you can console yourself with thoughts that those Peacocks in WDW may be running on snow soon, too. :silly:

Ran today, since yesterday on my "snow day," I wasted it all trying to set up my iPod. I did 1.7 miles (just .2 miles more than on Tuesday--but, hey, it's still an increase!) and had to stop--not so much pain as pretty bad weakness (feeling my knee would give out). Since I wasn't good about my stretches yesterday, I'm willing to pay the consequences. I'll do better before running again on Sunday.

I can testify that Team Peacock rocked it in 5k. Ya'll should have seen Stimpy at that finish, she was hauling butt! Sadly we missed the kid races. It took forever to get our packets squared away, and Scott wanted to check out the Mizuno booth for his bday present. I hate we missed it!

I dropped Scott off at bus stop @ 3am. Going to try to do the TTC and Poly combo via monorail to see him. It is a cold morning indeed, stay warm Peacocks, next stop phase II of peacock butt kickin. Flash, Rick, scott and Lisa--good luck and let's get some peacock on!!!!!!!!

Funny thing is, it's Saturday morn, I should be sound asleep, but I've been awake since before 5am, I wonder if I was thinking about the Peacocks this morn!:D

Hey Athenna -- no worries. When Carrie listed me originally, I thought for sure someone would notice and take me off the list. After all, I'm not the biggest fan of Disney races, am I?? :) Then I forgot about it. When MM said she couldn't track some of us, I had no idea it was ME! LOL

Anyway, I'm not surprised either that Stimpy did so well. She's got a lot of angst in her real life and needs to get it out! :silly: Reminds me of someone else I know...

Mr. Roz turned in an exceptional performance it seems in, I'll type it slowly:

I had the incredible pleasure to be awakened by a text reporting Mr. Roz's awesome 1/2 marathon time. Incredible--isn't better than your Rehoboth time?--and in nasty, cold weather!

Then, after dozing back off, I was aprised of withdisneyspirit's and her dh's progress (I love this notification thing--I hope they have it for the Princess so all my family can be awakened at 4am to be told we crossed the finish).

Well, I tried to spare you the embarrassment of pointing out you were dragging your feet--not realizing I was the one to be embarrassed  And, I thought you, Gail, and Roz were the 3 Musketteers, running in every race you could!

I certainly don't like the fact these races start so early--or those blasted, ITB killing on/off ramps--and didn't the Princess last year fall on the day DST started?! Who thought of that one?

MM, thanks for your kind words:hug1: They are truly appreciated.

Well, my weight has been an issue for me my whole life. And food has such a strong hold over me. It was only later in 2009 that I fell into a normal BMI for the first time in my life--I'd been overweight, bordering on obese all that time. And, I'm terribly impatient ;), so I understand not liking when things seem to be going slowly.

I am having wardrobe stress. No sleet forcast for tomorrow, sunny. Hig 48, low 26, wind out of North 10-20 mph.

Question: Tights which are not my favorite things to run in. Or my 1/3 tights that I run in all the time at home. Also as I type I am wearing my headsweat hat and new brooks ear cover I bought at expo. I know, nothing new on race day, but I was bitter cold today during half viewing. I am wearing 3 gloves. All thin gloves, but I have this weird hand pain with cold.

thoughts?

Considering you'll be doing much of your running before sunrise, I would anticipate the temps at the lower end, especially with that much of a biting wind. How do you do in that weather?

I have what I guess are more yoga-type pants (with a flared leg) that I run in (both those pair and my tights are Champion's that I got at Target). I find them very comfortable--but if you're not used to them.

Any knee socks? :silly:

Oh, speaking of Brooks, I got this clearance brooks zipper jacket--very light weight but incredibly warm. I was very surprised.

So, what do you have in non-bulky weather attire? I guess ultimately it's about what you feel good about wearing tomorrow morning.

Okay, that was no help at all. Sorry. But, best of luck! (It is just a run for fun, after all, right? ;))

It was the best of the times, the worst of times. I will do a longer TR later and will post a link here. Just some quick thoughts and reports.

Piriformis starting hurting at mile 1. Increased every mile. Worst pain I have ever run with without stopping to cry. WTF? Need to figure out what went wrong there. I have been "good to go" for almost 2 months now.
Water stops were ice skating rinks. Several slides, had to grab my RP and various strangers to keep from breaking my neck
Tight race. We knew we were going to run it for fun, and did not worry about weaving. Actually our corral (C sub 4:30) was a great corral, great race etiquette. (sp? to tired to think) Pacing was smooth as everyone around you did your pace. Amazing. Shoulder to shoulder crowds.
INCREDIBLE crowd support. I tried to thank everyone who would call my name, high five me, inspire me to go another step. I know so many CMs, volunteers endured worse conditions than the runners, as at least we could move to keep warm. Honestly it made the race, these folks 5 people deep yelling out support for complete strangers.
LOVED, loved loved the parks. I know, I "poo-pood" Disney races for a long time now. AK was my favorite. The CMs were amazing, and seeing EE with snow and making jokes with several runners about that. Lots of laughs entire race.
My blue start started first few miles in dark around WS. Torches were all lit and Illuminations globe all lite up. I am not a Illuminations fan, but these gave me goosebumps. Seeing it all at 0600 all for you.
Lots of water stops, lots of them. Great organization.
Saw our crew twice, TTC and Poly. It meant to much to see them, especially knowing how much of a sacrifice it was. Frigid cold in the dark before sunrise.Crossed the Finish Line with my RP, side by side, holding hands with our arms up in air. Smiling. Had a kick at the end. Priceless! She gave up a PR today for me. She had tons of energy and could have moved a lot faster without me. She and I sang songs during the last overpasses, having several runners join in. We loved the out and back too! I know we are crazy, but we highfived all the runners coming in to it, trying to encourage them. It was not a bad out and back at all, because we were mentally prepared for it--thanks Carrie! Rode the first bus in, a private Peacock bus. Lisa, Rick and Melissa (RP) and I all to our peacock selfs. :D

Okay rambling thoughts over with. I had a 4:34:xxx. No PR, but this race I had to fight for it. I feel like I am a different runner. I am more proud of my performance than Rehoboth to be honest. I always read that it's not the "great" races that make you strong, it's the hard races where everything tries to fall apart. Somehow you don't let it, and you pull yourself up by your boot straps and keep going.

Thank you Team Peacock. I love every single one of you.

Congrats to Lisa on her first Goofy. Queen Peacock, as like I told her this morning at the corral, she is the first one of us to DO IT! WTG!

Congrats to Carrie, seeing her yesterday and having her mentally prepare me for different parts of race really helped. WTG Carrie on your 5th, or is it 6th Disney marathon??? Incredible.

Mama Gail who rung her 2 cowbells over head yelling my name!! :hug1:

I hope Carrie and Lisa check in soon too! I did text a while with Lisa last night. She got her Goofy medal. Yahoo!!

Oh in case anyone has been tossing and turning at night, wondering if I wore full tights or 1/3 tights...went with what I knew, 1/3 tights. Very happy with choice. Had 3 layers up top, 3 gloves, handwarmer for 1st half, headsweat cap and full ear cover. Only took off top throwaway gloves and handwarmers LOL! I passed a dude with freaking icecicles hanging from his curls! COLD!

Hey one more thing, a dear super fast runner at home assured me I would be less sore this one..true! I am a human! What a difference, no wheelchair needed. Also going to MK EMH last night and walking some lactic acid out really helped.

Icing my ankle. Residual effects from Friday's twisting of it....

Did get 1 mi in this morning but it was too cranky. Got 3 more to go later if it feels OK. Moved my LR to Wed., as the weather is supposed to break tomorrow, and quite frankly I'm tired of freezing out there! I'm a wuss.

Oh, man, nono, too bad about the ankle. Sending you my wishes for a speedy recovery :hug1:

I am going to try running outside tomorrow for the first time (yea!). I ran 2.05 miles yesterday before my knee gave out (yippee--I'm moving up), and since I have a 5K on Saturday (while I hope to be up to running 3 miles by then, it's a lot of hills, so I'll be doing more walking than running) that signed up for way back in September, I figured I should at least have some experience running in the cold with gloves, my tights, fleece, etc. Problem is, I think I'll be doing it in the dark, since my days are longer at work right now.

It gets better. Got back from the library with the kids. S was asleep so I was carrying him into the house and stepped on a small mound of ice and twisted my ankle again...this time with an extra 30+ lbs. of force on it. :oweye:

NOW, it really hurts. I think I gave myself frostbite icing it this evening. :blech:

MatterhornMiss
01-11-2010, 07:05 PM
Okay, I took a look for the course elevation for the 5K this weekend. I have not done any hills since the ToT, really, and I'm afraid to rush into this one--even walking. It's more the downhills that worry me than the uphills. I'm not sure if I should try walking it for practice or what. There is an almost 150ft hill--up at the beginning 1/2 mile, and back down the last 1/2 mile or so (since it's a loop), a couple of smaller hills in between. What do you all think?

The thing is, I paid for this series of race (it wasn't too terrible or anything), and I would like to actually run in them. There is one race left--a 4 miler in a month. Still, I know if it comes down to $50 vs. a longer ITB recovery, I'd rather count the money a loss.

MM- Tough call, especially since you are worried about the hills; I defer to the more experienced here! :silly: That said, I still "ran" a 5k a while before ToT about a week after pulling something in my side. That pull kept bothering me for a long time; not sure if the race made it worse or not. But my first race had HUGE hills and although I mainly walked them, I felt fine after that race despite having done no serious hill work beforehand. So what I'm saying is I'd be more worried about worsening the injury than the hills themselves... Are you still doing PT? Did you trying asking him/her???

:scared07: Oh no nono! :pixiedust::pixiedust::pixiedust: that you stop hurting yourself & start getting well soon!!!

Nick- Thanks for the pics! :thumbsup2:

Geepers Nono, super ouch on the ankle. Let us know how its doing.

MM, if I were to give advice I would say I would take the loss and concentrate on being healthy for the Princess. However, I am bad at taking my own advice! Just be careful! U have done so much work on this injury.

Still wearing my medal, and able to walk! Actually hardly sore at all. Very weird, but great. It has made me a even bigger believer in a strong base year round. Also I think your body is in less shock when u do them on the same training cycle.

Oh guess what we found? A entire christmas tree in germany with Peacock ornaments, the entire tree all different color Peacocks! And best of all our 20 percent passholder discount worked on them!! Mama Gail will post pics.

MM, you can always start the race and DNF (did not finish) if things aren't going well.

Ankle feels "normal" this morning. If, and that's a big if, I can not do anything to annoy it today, I think I'll attempt my 3 miler tonight as a recovery run -- and I mean recovery pace: 2 min slower than my average base pace.

Rozzie, tree sounds coooool!!!

Nono, so sorry about the ankle:( Gonna have to stay off of it for a bit.

Nick, thats for posting the pics:thumbsup2:

I'm out of commission for a few days:mad: I seem to have a pulled muscle, only I dont know how I did it, it's in my chest...Its weird, started hurting Sunday, feels 99.9% better now, but not perfect....Friends are trying to get me to go to the doctor, but I know they'll send me for a bunch of tests, so I'm not going unless necessary...But I will go if it gets worse, or changes in any way.

athenna--you haven't been feeling poorly, have you? Like coughing or fever? I know it sounds weird, but if it doesn't get better, I'd want to make sure you didn't have an infection (like bronchitis or walking pneumonia or something). But it sounds like you're on top of it.

Thanks for the input, Roz and nono. It's actually supposed to be above freezing tomorrow (the first time in 13 days) and sunny, so I'm hoping the snow will melt. I'm thinking of maybe trying to at least walk part of that loop, to get an idea of the hills. On paper, it looks much like what I was doing in training before the RFTT and ToT, but it may be steeper, actually.

I will say that I generally don't have problems with hills or stairs much anymore, except going down them after I have been pretty active (particularly after running).

I would love to see that peacock tree, too! I saw a picture where clear glass ornaments were filled with a peacock feather each, then hung from long ribbons as sort of a chandelier. It was very pretty, simple, and elegant. I even saw little 12" trees at Michael's made completely from peacock feathers. I don't think they were necessarily for Christmas, as they weren't in with holiday goods, but just the regular floral department.

Thanks for the pics, Nick! And thanks again for stopping to cheer unknown runners on. Supporters like you really can give an extra boost :love30:

Oh, and I'm curious to know how those disposable cameras worked out. . .

Nope, havent been feeling poorly at all....I was all set to go to work today, but when I was in the shower, I was thinking that I should really call the Dr, I figured it was probably nothing but w/all the crap in the family tree and the fact I used to smoke like a chimney:blech:
So I called Dr...He sent me for an EKG, which came out fine, so it's not my heart, thank God for that:) He also had me get a chest xray to make sure it's not my breasts or my lungs, he said my lungs sounded nice & clear...Of all of this turns up nothing, then it's just a muscle pull, I guess.

Thanks, all, I'll let you know what the Dr says....I am going to work today, cant afford not too, not getting paid for the past 2 days or the upcoming vaca....Plus I'm still w/in my 90 day probationary period w/the job.
I have to call the Dr about 2:30 to see if anything showed up on the xray:fingerscrossed: that nothing does, and that its a simple muscle pull.
I'll try to let you all know as soon as I can..

Heh heh heh Mr Stimpy! You go man!!!!!!

Stimpy, I haven't even looked at the 1/2 marathon site...just booked my room like Rozzie told me to do. ;) So, are you targeting that race next??

Oh, and I got 8 miles in this morning on a taped up ankle. Man I was frozen by Mi 6...where's this warm up I keep hearing about????

Athenna, check in when you can...

Good news about the ankle, nono! :cheerleader:

I was supposed to run yesterday, but fell asleep within an hour of coming home and didn't wake up until this morning. Mondays and Tuesdays are long days for me now, which I really don't like. Got up this morning to beautiful sunshine and decided, even though snow and ice were still on the ground, I needed to run outside.

I only made it about .85 mile before I had to stop. I knew I wouldn't do as well today because I feel asleep early (as stated above) without properly stretching, after standing on my feet all day long. Also, the trail (which is normally small, hard packed gravel, relatively flat), was very hard packed snow (which was more ice-like), and uneven, so that was rough on my knee. Still, given my experience today, I think I'll pass on Saturday's race.

Which brings me to ask everyone's opinions--how/when should I be transitioning to the outside? I want to have some experience before attempting the Princess.

Also, nono, I need some reassurance from you (or just some info) on your ITB recovery.

Sept. 30, 2006 according to my log is when I got my ITBS. Running home on it for 3 miles after I got it probably contributed to basically only 5 runs being recorded for all of October...including the 5th on Oct. 31. None of those runs were long: 1.8 mi a week later (too much), 10 days later 1.4 miles (still too much), 2 days later 1.1 miles (I think that was the one on the OKW treadmill), 6 days later 1.2 miles, then 9 days later 1.1 miles. I had smaller runs of 1/4s, 1/2s, etc., but didn't mark them down. It was too depressing.

1st week of Nov: 2.3 mi total
2nd week of Nov: 5.5 mi total
3rd week of Nov: 8.7 mi
4th week of Nov: 12.3 mi
5th week of Nov: 12.5 mi
1st week of Dec: 17 mi
2nd week of Dec: 16 mi
3rd week of Dec: 22 mi
4th week of Dec: 12 mi
1st week of Jan: 17.1 mi, which included the 1/2 marathon on Jan. 6, 2007

So, in what has become a continuing tradition for me, I headed into a new race distance undertrained!

How much foam rolling are you doing? It really has to become your religion for awhile to get through the race. As long as you are feeling the pain, you know you need to keep doing it daily. Really, there will actually come a time when rolling your ITB doesn't make you want to jump out a second story window! It still surprises me when I don't get any sensation doing it, but it does happen that nothing happens when rolling. :)
