Speaking of which, what would you all recommend I do for my knee (particular stretches or exercises)? I have self-diagnosed my self with IT band syndrome--which I know is generally pretty inaccurate to do, but still, it seems to fit. Either way, what should I be doing to be in the best condition to start training for the half in December (and I'd like to get back out and start running, at least a little, before then).

Well if you want my advice....I think you should figure out the knee issue. But all the while keeping your base. I cringe at the though of "starting all over", and even after my race season ends will keep a moderate base just for fitness. That way when I go into a training cycle, I am not behind the eight ball. Light easy miles, nothing serious. But it will make training for your HM easier, and really it's only 4 months away. I trained for my HM for 7 months of running before I ran it to be honest. I am not a natural runner, and I have to work twice as hard to get conditioned. It seems you are a natural so this may not apply to you.

Now the knee, I had ITB, and I know Coach Nono had a wicked case of it too. What I did was roll out with a foam roller, everyday. Lots of yoga and stretching exercises. Pigeon poses before and after running. Crossing legs over and touching toes all day at work. Fish oil. Cutting back mileage. I do think that knee issues are a result of weak hips. I am doing some hip exercises now that is in this months issue of Running Times. I will see if I can find something similar and paste it here. I know Nono does a slideboard which I can bet is even better to ward off knee issues. Women are famous for weak hip flexors---or say I've read.

Good luck to you MM, can't wait to read your daily progress! :)

ETA: Try these and see if it helps!

Hey I hit 1000 miles running for this year while out today. You would think my log would play a fanfare or something to let me know!

..........

DG, you look like you were flying through the finish. Nice job turning off your watch. I have never managed to do that. Not once. Ever. :embarassed:

Congrats! Very cool. :cheerleader: And thanks, respectively!:D

Since I am HORRIBLE at keeping my log updated, I had no idea I had passed a 1000 until someone on ROTE informed me I hit my 1000+ goal last month.

Belated congrats to you!!! :yahoo:

Errr, I believe that would be Mother Nature. :)

:yahoo: Congratulations!
SHOES! :scared07: Whole 'nother topic. Will have to look later.

For our Peacocks not running 1000 miles, it's not a big deal, 'cept that it was one of my three goals for 2009. Second one was completing the 18 mi race I did a couple weeks ago. Third one is coming up: completing my first marathon. I think I'll write fewer goals next year. I'm tired! (And kinda sore after yesterday!)

Way to go, Mr. Roz!!! :yahoo: :cheerleader: :love30: :thumbsup2:

I think it is a big deal, nono. Since we're not even to the end of the year, that's averaging over 23 miles a week! Don't sell your self short! :rocker:

Thanks for the article, Roz. Some of those stretches I do anyway, as part of my post-run stretching. There sure are a lot! I'm trying to follow my coach's (that is, my sister's) advice of not going straight from training hard for the 10K/13K into training for the 1/2. She recommended a period of cross-training not to burn out (certainly running some, but not exclusively) and felt I could train for the 1/2 in 12 weeks, given my current running base. I did find a 12 week 1/2 training schedule, too.

I added my running up, and I've run 260 miles since the start of June. I started running mid-March, but I was doing timed intervals then, not distance-based, so I'm not sure how far I ran (it wasn't that much, though I'm sure).

I think I'll need to ask for new shoes for Christmas ;) (well, probably before then, considering most of my miles came from running on pavement)

Oh, I'll be there all right! Depending on if/when (I'm really, really hoping she will) my sister can come will depend on the length of stay. I would love to meet you, too!

Congratulations on the great work out today! I love feeling good like that after a run.

Woohoo, I'd LOVE to meet up with you MM! And cool that both Rozaroo and Gailaroo are interested too, as is NJNick. (if someone else posted availability and I missed it I am sorry).

I don't want to hijack this thread any more than I already have. :silly: I'll start a new one soon for all of those who'd like to attend a meetup sometime around the race. :cheerleader:

Sorry, Mar, but I meant for the Princess Half the beginning of March. I would love to be able to meet up with everyone in January, but I can't seem to make the excuse :silly:. I looked into running the 5K (registration is full) or volunteering for the marathon (I guess they have all they need) so I will have to catch up with you later.

My 20 miler went well today. So well I felt frisky at the end I picked it up over the last 4 miles, ending with a 0845 pace for my last mile. Now I can barely walk, icing, and slugging around house like I have no legs. But looking back I am glad I did it, I needed the confidence booster for Rehoboth. My overall pace was 10:22. I haven't had a LR like that in forever. But then again it was cool/cold, and the weather makes a huge impact on my running.

Speaking of cold, I did try a mini dress rehearsal this morning. I saw it would be 48 with 15 mph wind out of the north. I was running a 20 mile out and back on the waterfront for the entire route, and thought it would be nippy enough with tradewinds to try for the capri tights, long sleeve white tech, and L peacock shirt with my gloves. Well 4 miles into it I had shedded 50% of all of that. :silly: So basically I run better cold, than bundled up. Back to the drawing board. Right now I am thinking no long sleeve tech, but have a throw away something on top for first few miles (in addition to throw away I will wear prior to start of race) and then go down to Small peacock shirt with gloves if the temp is above freezing. Anyone confused? Good cuz' I sure as heck am!

I wanted to order a couple of photos from RFTT and ToT, but now I'm not so sure. First of all, they won't let me combine the two races into one shopping cart, and instead are making me pay separate shipping on the two. Secondly, where it got to the point where I was entering contact and personal information, someone else's name was already there! (I have no idea who it was, but kinda creepy.) So, I question the site's security. Anyone else having a problem?

Rozzie
11-01-2009, 04:27 PM
I haven't tried to order them this time around, but now concerned after reading what happened to you. That is all I need is for someone to steal my CC # again!

Legs are better, actually able to drag around laundry. NOT doing track tomorrow, but doing 3 miles easy instead. Track tues, wed off, thurs 10 mile tempo, Fri 4, Sat 6, then 18 on Sat. My last LR before Rehoboth. I plan on taking that 18 so freaking slow granny's with walkers are going to pass me. No need for another speedy LR that close and risk something, but just going to concentrate on my gait and form.

You're awesome, Roz! :love30:

I wanted to try running an easy 2-3 miles today, but didn't get around to it. . . I need to make my running schedule NOW so I don't keep making excuses. But that means I also need a new calendar for 2010. The calendars I can make on disneyphotopass.com are quite nice, but do I really want to mark up a calendar that expensive?! Still, it might be nice motivation (and I can put in the Princess 1/2 dates on it).

OOHHH, I forgot to post this in my fog yesterday, and will most likely only make Mr Roz and Rozzie laugh --

I plotted out a 12 mi trek around town yesterday on .... yes .... mapmyrun. The actual route netted me about 13.5 mi. :headbrickwall: I'm 0-fer-2 lately with that site. It used to be more accurate, or else it just jived with my Garmin 201 (notoriously "off" with mileage). Hmmmm....

(In case anyone is wondering -- those were the miles I ran alone. Renee joined me for the beginning miles and the final miles :thumbsup2: )

Three goals:

1. Run 1000 mi.
2. Race an 18 miler.
3. Find a Feb. 2010 1/2 marathon (thinking maybe Hilton Head).

Your goals look awesome Rozzie!

Whoops! Somehow, number 3 morphed to: Finish Rehoboth Marathon on 11/21 and also finish Shamrock Marathon in March 2010...

I thought for fun maybe we'd share our goals again for 2009. I want to Team Peacock to hold me accountable so here I go:
Run 800 Miles
Sub 29:00 5K
PR 10K
2:45 1/2 Marathon
Sign up for Full Marathon

1. 1285 miles so far with 2 months left.
2. 25:05 5K PR
3. 2:08 HM
4. 54:XX 10K (can't remember specific)
5. Signed up for 2 Marathons

That's some old fashioned peacocking! This really helped me tonight, I guess I am in a better place than I thought I was. Thanks Team Peacock for holding me accountable. On to 2010!! :thumbsup2:

Do you run on uneven groud at home adn not do an out and back so that it does not even out? Hope you can find some ansers. I went to an osteo manipulator. he did wonders with his manipulaiton adn did special x-rays to find out the length issues and got me the heel lift that has saved my runnign career. yes, bad slopes liek ToT still irritate it, but at least I know cause and effect msotly now.

Well, so far I plan on running my first half marathon in March (Princess!) and then my second the end of April (Derby Festival mini). I want to run the Disneyland Half in September, too, but I don't know if I'll be able to get away from work. I have plenty of smaller races planned in that time, too.

I'm not sure about distances or PRs; I'll have to think on that.

Since I plan (hope?) to move to Nashville in July, I've been looking at the races there. They offer some intense ones! Like, ultramarathons (50K, 60K, 70K, and 80K!) and this crazy marathon called the Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey. Check it out: http://www.harpethhillsmarathon.com/ (http://www.harpethhillsmarathon.com/). If any peacock is up to 3,500 feet total elevation changes, 12% grade hills, and some trail running in a few years, I might be up to it (in a couple of years, of course!). Nashville also has a fun series called "I run for the party."

DG - :( SO sorry I didn't get to meet you at ToT. You coming in January?

Meeting would have been great. Unfortunately, I don't plan to be at the World for any races in 2010...

As it stands now, my only 2010 WDW trip will be Jan. 30 - Feb. 5th for DW's BD. I'm also planning on going to DL for my BD for 5 nights arriving Oct. 16th for my first stay @ VGC, hope to book that in 13 days! :fingerscrossed: I don't have the points for any more trips (couldn't even borrow after I book VGC; I will have exactly 0 left in my 2009 & 2010 UY's on both contracts (BLT already is 100% tapped out) and also 0 for 2011 on my VGC one! :rotfl2:) plus no $$$ or vacation time available, especially since DW's pay got slashed in half back in Sept. Hard enough to still make the trips we already have planned. Hopefully she'll have a new job in time for us to save up for 2011 travel, and also have paid vacation time available by then! There is a part of me that's worried about her being able to take the trips we already have planned or that are in process if / when she gets a new job, but she's thinking if she tells them before accepting and agrees to do them unpaid if need be we'll be OK. 'Course unpaid presents it's own challenges, but as long as she's getting soething reasonable as base $$$ we should be able to work around it.

OK, 'nuff about money and such, sorry I went off on that tangent...

Just ran 2 miles. It was pretty bad, in terms of the pain. I ran on the treadmill instead of heading out to my usual street/sidewalks since I thought it would be a little easier on my knee.

The first .5 mile was really great, but the pain started and it only got worse. At times my knee felt like it would lock or give out. I wanted to run a little beyond 2 miles, but I'm not so sure I should've kept pushing for the 2 I did do.

This is so not good. :(

I mixed weights and 1.25 on my 'mill last night. TM still kills my calves, that's why I cut it so short compared to 'real' running outside...

Thanks, DG. I mainly ran on concrete before my recent races, though I did occasionally do TM work. My knee only started hurting after the RFTT, and really started hurting after the ToT. So far, since the ToT, I've been doing minimal running, but more elliptical and yoga and walking.

Roz--my foam roller is on order. I'm starting to ice (according to that Running Times website, I'm supposed to be doing it 3x a day, so I'll have to up the frequency of it and the stretching). I've been doing naproxen, but not noticing much of a difference.

MM- You need to add rest to that mix. The magic formula is RICE - Rest, Ice, COmpression (which most don't do) and ELevation. Take care of that knee. Time off will not hurt you as much as running injured will.

Craig - SSOrry about the pay cut issues adn vacation issues. I feel your pain. Not 50% but had several 3 day weeks that used all my vacation. As of Fridya before ToT I was out of vacation, so that, the holidays and if I'm on more 3 days weeks are no pay days. Survivable, yes, but vacations are hard to justify. Luckily, our plane tix fro ToT were free and we had $100 vouchers from NWA for January. Still afraid to look at room charges from ToT, though.

Yowie owie oww! on the interval work. I'm glad mine is over (for a while, at least).

The Flying Monkey is intriguing--they don't close any of the course to non runners (or cars--eek!), but they limit participants to only 200. Looking at the course elevation changes, the 18th mile looks like a real killer. Over 300 ft incline in a very short distance  :oweye:.

We'll have to plan on the Country Music Marathon for 2011! This year it is on the same day as the Derby Festival mini/marathon. (Not that I would be ready to run the full marathon in April 2010, but the 1/2 I hope I could do). And it's part of that Rock n Roll series where I think you get bonus medals the more races in the series you run.

Now just hope and pray I get a job in Nashville! :fingerscrossed:

Time to ice.

I am still waking up an hour early because of the change too :oweye: This weekend is my 14 miler though and I am scared because I did not get my 12 miler in the weekend of TOT - I only did eight  I amy only do a Half Marathon and call it a day...

Good luck, MM, on the job hunt in Nashville :fingerscrossed:

I missed last wekeend's 8 and may miss this LR too. I know hnow that it'll be ok. Better to take care of teh body than get all your trianing in and be hurting. (((hugs)))

Not only did I finally get around to do some yoga today (it was on my schedule for Monday, but I kept postponing), but I also did 25 mins on the elliptical. It was nice to force myself to do what I planned. I'm getting increasingly stressed by work, my career changing, future planning, etc, and instead of just tackling things one by one, I've made the poor choice to continue procrastinating, adding to the stress. So, it felt good to get something accomplished.

My knee is a bit stiffer and cracking/popping a little more since upping the stretching, but I'm hoping soon it will turn the corner.

I think all the Disney ones do. Man, what a rush to see those races! :thumbsup2: I have had countless people with fully-functioning legs say to me, "I couldn't make it to the corner." It's so neat to meet up with folks who do the weelchair or handcrank races -- those racers have so many more reasons to "not make it to the corner," yet they are out there, training and succeeding! :rocker:

Sorry to have to come on with stinky news but my bank is basically being shut down! :( We have capitalization problems because we used to lend to builders and as a result we are holding a lot of foreclosed property. Even though our retail division is doing great this year, FNMA and FHLMC decided yesterday afternoon to deny our ability to originate new loans. Only the loans in the pipeline that are locked will be closed and funded.

Basically, I am unemployed now except they still let us come in today. I spent all day copying stuff out of my customer files trying to build my database. Our boss is interviewing companies that might take our entire branch on as new employees - that is what we are all praying for, of course! No matter what, it is not good for my business. I literally had to transfer a loan to a competitor already today :boohoohoo:

The good news is that I trust that G*d is on the case :goodvibes:

Running: Ran 5 mi today in super-windy and freaky weather. I stopped for Renee to do her thing, and almost got knocked over by a huge blast of wind coming off the ocean from the East. Weirdest part was that on the same street, 1 block south were two flagpoles with flags standing straight out to the East, meaning they were being blown from due West. I decided it was too close to Auntie Em time, so I turned around and went home. Still have to crank out another 5 today...

Geepers Creepers, this is a crazy time we are living in now. I don't think anyone's job is 100% safe, myself included. Sending all my best to Mr Nono that he finds the perfect thing that will bring him the job satisifaction he deserves.

My weekend plans are this--Going to go run 3 miles with a Peroni on board. Met my mom up at the OG for a drink for her bday, forgot I still had to run. Oops. Then tomorrow I am going to "bandit" my first race. Big 10K here in town tomorrow, Mr Roz got his packet and all that. He is shooting for Sub 50. I was not going to race it, I got 18 on Sunday plus Rehoboth is very very close. But I still gotta get 6 miles in tomorrow (and my day is planned packed full with my mom being in town), and what better way than to run it with a couple thousand folks? I knew if I registered and wore a bib that I would want to race it, I really CAN'T do that if I want to stay healthy. So I am jumping the rail. Not actually jumping the rail, just getting in the back and then cutting off at 6 miles for the kick. My Coach actually gave me the idea, he says he might Bandit too. No shirt, No bib, No beer for me at end with all the others, but I already feel like a winner! :rotfl2:

My branch manager and ex regional manager are both still hard at work to get us all placed with a new company in the next few days. Nice weather here, I think I will go out for a run in an hour or two. Sun and it is supposed to hit 61 degrees! :yahoo:

I've been thinking about 2010 goals; and I've almost decided on this one:

Run my (first?) 10k on 10/10/10! What da' ya' think?

http://www.towpathmarathon.net/index.htm

It's local to me so no real travel issues involved. :D

Hey, any of the team want to come out to lovely Ohio next fall? :listen: They've also got a full & half marathon [those even get finishers medals; "my" 10k didn't in 2009] so something for everybody! ;)

So now to think about training & exercise in general... I've got a year and I already did a 5.34 miles training run once, so new distance shouldn't be a problem at all. Maybe I'm being too easy on myself, but remember my original goal was to exercise for about 30 minutes a day, then getting a Disney medal turned that into running a 5k. Baby steps for this Geek; I've already broken the fat lazy computer nerd stereotype to some extent! :rotfl2:

I'm currently tossing around very little or no running outside during bad weather but not give my myself days off (as I was far too frequently letting myself do for the last month or two; and I think my time at ToT showed it :(), just switch to Elliptical to still get in cardio on those days. Not optimal I know, but I really don't like trying to run in sub 45ish degree temps or when it's dark out before work. I know a lot of you dedicated Peacocks do it all the time, but it worries me and leaves me uncomfortable and with some breathing issues fairly quickly after I start. Now, that is of course subject to change (as is all life, right)!

Looks like a great race DG, go for it! Don't compare yourself to others, you just focus on you and you will be much better off. BELIEVE ME. ;)

Well Mr Roz shot out of a cannon and whizzed his way to a new PR. Over 10 min off his old 10K time. 47 min and some change. His last mile was 7:15. (is this the same person I married?? :thumbsup2:) As for me, I had a nice run. It was quite refreshing to wake up this morning without butterflies, none of the prerace jitters. I ran into one of our Coach's clients at the start...Mr Roz's old training partner. Seems she lost all her long distance base with triathlon season and asked if I would pace her to come in under 60 min. (after she found out I was a bandit) Well she ended up having some issues along the way and had to walk through some water stops. I was actually glad for the experience of running then walking through water stops for Rehoboth. We didn't make her goal, but I really enjoyed taking it easy. 10K distance is a distance I personally find really hard and was thankful I was not having to push it.

I had a big eye opening experience running with a lot of wounded runners. We ran in a pack where almost everyone was recovering from some type of injury. I knew I made the right decision to take it easy, one race is not worth a injury that would plague me for a endless amt of time. But boy, it was hard not doing a quick registration before the race, I felt great in my 2 mile warmup, and the weather was to die for. Oh well, always next year to PR, or not PR. Who knows, as long as I am racing healthy I will be happy. :thumbsup2:

Oh as for being a bandit, it was a freaking blast!!!!!! I felt like a kid again trying to sneak and get away with something. hehehe.

DG -- go for it!!!

Mr. Roz -- Whoo hoo! :woohoodance:

Rozzie -- I hear there's an RD trying to hunt you down for an entry fee...

This morning, my alarm went off. I was pretty psyched to do my 13 miler over to the next island with my family as my chase/pick up team. But, as I lay there waking up, my S snuggled into my shoulder, and Renee nestled her face into my feet, and I decided to just lie there and enjoy it.

Sooo, I got up about 20-30 min later, which was too late to try the bridge crossings. Decided to cook up dinners for tonight and tomorrow. My S came down and helped! :) After it was all done, D & Mr Nono were up, and I hydrated and headed out by myself for a 5 mile Wave run. First 1/2 mile, D was with me! :cloud9: Then it was off for a mile hard, mile easy, mile hard, mile easy and cool down to finish.

Tomorrow will now be my 14 miler with chase team. It's supposed to be hotter, so Renee and I will start out a bit earlier, and definitely clear the bridges before traffic gets busy.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Here in Geek land, I just got in from a training PR!!! :yahoo: It took me 1 hour, 15 min, 50.17 seconds, but Garmin says I did 6.78 miles in a mixed run/walk. :cheerleader: So lets see, that works out to about 10.9k; I think that 10k race next October will definitely be fine. :rotfl2: AP was 11:10, 1158 cal, burned, AHR of 150. Start was about 61 degrees, finished around 64 w/ 43% humidity. Conditions that agreed with me! :D Felt good after I got moving, and started psyching myself up to go long. Mind over body worked. :rocker:

Roz's reminder to not compare myself to others just gave me the mental shift I really needed; I hadn't run since ToT. (Between it & now I did some 'mill, elliptical, and weights, but skipped more days than I care to admit!) After I got to my driver and stopped Garmin for a slow cool down walk the movie Meatballs (one of my dad's favorites) came to mind; in particular the chant of " IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER!". :thumbsup2:

Hope more of you have something great happen for them this weekend. :fingerscrossed: The endorphins are clearly still coursing through me from the run... :cloud9:

Great work, everyone! :cheerleader: Go, Peacocks!

I ran an easy 2 1/2 miles on the treadmill this evening. I couldn't go very fast, but I wasn't in very much pain! :yahoo: My knee is still really tight, but I think the stretching and strengthening is helping. I'm continuing to ice--though I don't understand icing a non-acute injury (I always thought you only iced the first few hours after an injury, then applied heat). I have had to lay off the NSAIDS, though, because the naproxen was starting to irritate my stomach. Which means I've been eating more to help the pain go away (why can't I ever get the ulcers that hurt more on a full stomach, rather than on an empty stomach) which is so bad since I'm not running as much right now.

Anyway, I was glad my knee is (seemingly) doing better. Tomorrow I plan on focusing on strength/cross training.

Mr. Roz
11-07-2009, 11:14 PM
Well, I'll say I am very happy with my race 10K race today. The weather was perfect at 55 degrees. I had a great time hanging out with just Ms Roz before the race. I thought it was funny that she ran "Bandit". I know it was hard for her to run slow and not race the course but it was the best thing a day before an 18 miler.

I had hoped to do better than the TOT with my pacing, because I have been starting off way too fast. My last two miles at the TOT left me gassed.

Any way I start out the first mile thinking I am doing a good job and not blowing it until I see the marker..7:40 first mile. I havn't got that part down yet. I backed off a little and ran the second mile at 8:15, hit mile 3 right at 24:03, exactly where I wanted to be. Turned it up, Hit mile 4 at 7:15 and last mile at 7:14, Very, very surprised.

My coach was calling the race over a microphone and actually yelled at me to"KICK IT!" Funny. Crossed the line at 47:44. My goal was 50: so I was shocked. I thought my watch was wrong.

I am glad to hear the good times and pacing going on with everyone. I look forward to seeing some of the gang in Delaware in two weeks. I hope everyone is doing well. GEt out there and race!

The bandit run sounds really neat, Rozzie! I would have been nervous to be caught - I have that kinda luck :oweye:

That is really cool how Scott joined you for the last eight of your 18 miler. Do y'all run well together on training runs?

Rick and I did a Half Marathon yesterday. I was supposed to do 14 but we decided to do 13.1 since my longest run to date was 10 and I did not want to overdo it too much. I feel a bit bad for Rick that he did the distance in training but I think he feels really good that he knows for sure he can do it and make it in a time that is good for a Donald medal!

Great news Lisa for you and Rick. :) I bet Rick is going to be officially hooked after his Donald medal. :thumbsup2:

Mr Roz and I try to do LR's at the same time, but usually he is way out in front. Past 2 LR's he has been super sweet and has run my pace to help me along. He is a really good boy. :cloud9:

So, my ToT medal has found a home @ home:

http://i619.photobucket.com/albums/tt277/DisVCGeek/DisneyDecoratingAroundHome010.jpg

I installed the new shelf in our living room about an hour ago. We got a new TV last week (old one literally smoked the night we got home from ToT...) and have been re-decorating around it, so perfect timing to add new mementos to display! As for the contents: the ears came from DW & my first Disney trip together back in Feb. 2006 for her BD. The flowers are the bride's bouquet E carried at our wedding and the Mickey base was purchased at the Disney florist during the Backstage Magic tour we took on our honeymoon (Sept. 2007). The medal & race rib probably look awfully familiar to a number of you... :silly:

I kept up with myself, too- swam ~21 min 45 sec of laps today (plus my traditional two startup lengths). First time I've hit the pool since June 14th, so between that and my legs still feeling yesterday a little I cut myself short of 30 min. and also did NOT use fins, just my hand paddles. :woohoodance: Off to a start of making daily exercise a habit again! :thumbsup2:

I agree with that. One of my three goals is to finish and that's it. Of all three goals I have, that one seems pretty important. :rotfl2: When do we start posting our goals for this?

I agree about the ears too, and hands for me. I have run in 30 degree temps before with shorts on and was fine, as long as my head and hands were covered. It was a short run though, not 4 hours in the elements. Thinking I might stay with the 3/4 tight capri's, peacock L shirt with long sleeve tech under. If I get hot I will just throw out the long sleeve tech to either Mr Nono, Joe, etc.

In other news keeping fingers crossed for no track tonight. We are having a hurricane! :silly:

Well, I decided a 14-miler (or any run) was still pushing it for me this weekend. I did do 60 min of wii+ yoga nd 40 min of other low/no impact stuff. 1:40, Not bad for a day I skipped my run. Of course, dh humbled me big time. He did his 14-miler in 2:04. Yahoo maps says I'm 13.24 miles (or 31 minutes) from home to get to the start @ Brandywine. Where is your friend located?

As for the elliptical, I did it for 30+ minutes 6 or 7 days week for upwards of 6 months, so it'll be fine for the winter! I find throwing in a DVD about Disney (I like Jeff Lang's since they make it feel sorta' like being there) works wonders for passing the time. In fact, I just redeemed a gift certificate I had to but a 5 disk DVD player so I can have it remember where I left off each time and then switch disks without stopping my workout! :rotfl2: I also have similar fan videos in the parks & resorts on backorder from Celebrate the Mouse. Got the link from a banner add on this site; I bought their full package of some ridiculous number of disks for $73 with 40+ hours of footage!!! :silly:

Roz & nono - I'm enjoying watching your prep. here and look forward to the event and am sending you best wishes for it to ROCK for you both!!!

==========

I'm still a bit sore today (especially my shins; I wonder if the ADIDAS shoes I wore on the treadmill earlier this week and the Nikes I wore Saturday might be contributing; maybe I should stick with my Asics and consider buying another pair of them to rotate in the training mix???)

Unfortunately I had a pretty bad headache last night & both it + some lower GI issues this morning, so I bailed on exercising before work. Hated to do it but didn't want things to get worse either... Meeting a friend right after work for dinner so today looks like it's becoming a rest day. Hopefully tomorrow I'll feel ready to take on the world and get in weights + 15-20 min. on the ellip!

Track got canceled, yahhooo! Have to do 6 miles of intervals instead. Of which I may or may not do. I might just do some easy mileage on the TM. It's raining cats and dogs and the wind is picking up. I think it's just going to be bad storm though, we won't lose power or anything like that. I still have to drive across the bayway right at the projected landfall tomorrow, so that might be a event in itself. :driver:

Please be careful and I hope everything does stay relatively minor for your family and area!

As for rotating shoes, I started alternating the Nikes and Asics when running outside around a month or two ago after I bought the Nikes. Before that I put about 125ish miles on the Asics wearing them exclusively for my outdoor runs since day 1. Those were also the shoes I've worn for all whopping 3 of my 5ks and walking around the race sight before or after them! :grin: {I don't wear either pair for anyhting other than 'real' running}

I think the TM earlier last week might have been what did it the most; no matter what shoes I've tried on it I was always sore either later that day or the next. 'mill and I just do NOT get along! The elliptical therefore remains my friend :hug1: since it doesn't try and hurt me. :rotfl2:

Do you all have ways of funding these shoes? I'm dreading my upcoming purchase of just one pair of shoes! I try to find shoes on discounted sites, but being a size 11 1/2 AA width usually means I have to have them special ordered--full price. :(

Never did my 14 mi yesteday. Totally pulled the plug on it. I'm just too deep into other problems, and really needed to sort some home stuff out, and the run had to go. I buy closeouts. All my models are discontinued. Doesn't matter -- even if I bought a current model, they'd be discontinued soon enough with the way the shoes are revised...

I have to thank the younger generation for growing bigger feet than mine. When I was young, an 8.5 was often the top end of the offerings. Nowadays, it's usually 10 or 10.5...so my 8.5 -9 is actually average!

Well our Coach canceled track tonight because of Hurricane Ida( man, he is getting soft) so I had to make the decision to run in the storm, around the neighborhood(lots of hills) or hit the tredmill. The tredmill won. The only catch is my work out was 6 miles with 8x Kenyan repeats every two minutes. Not completely unbearable, but not for the faint of heart either. I had to use the ipod with lots of loud, agressive, angst filled music.:rocker:
I was afraid we would loose power and I could be thrown over the top of the tredmill.

I really don't know. For the longest time, I thought I was a size 11. Then, a couple of years ago, I decided I was a 10.5. The reason I settled on that is because my right foot is about one whole size larger than my left. My right foot is more of an 11, but my right more of a 10. I considered 10.5 a compromise. But, after I got well-fitting running shoes (well, even in a AA width, they feel too wide at times), the few 10.5s I have (and they are hard to find) felt too short. So now I think I might be an 11, but very narrow width. But it all depends on the shoe, I guess. Shoes never seem to fit me well and I'd much rather be barefoot.

Thanks for the link, Gail. I usually find that zappos.com has a wide range of sizes, but the shoes I want never seem to be discounted much. There is a zappos.com outlet right outside of Louisville that I want to visit again, but I never make the time. Shoe shopping is very disheartening, for the above reasons.

Roz & nono - SO much better to go in undertrained than hurt. You are right many plans have 3 week tapers. Better to rest, get rid of that burn out adn burn it up race day. Is Rehobeth next weekend?

Roz - A little concerned that you are onlly giving yourself a month to recover from teh full. I can do half's liek that , but a half a month after a full seems like a lot ot me. I know you are better trained than I, but please be careful

Mr. Roz - The list of who's diong what in January is on teh sticky at the top of this forum. DH and I will be doing the full.

Lisa - My piri formis form my leg lenght issue reaised it's nasty head. Think I messed up teh hip too. My half the week before ToT did nto have great surfaces adn ToT was awful for my legs. Then, I added a week of walkign the parks..... (I have a heck of a time catching up after a trip too. Add in that your world's a bit unstable at the moment and that's tough. :hug1:)

Well, I did an hour last night. Felt ok once the rust wore off. Had a pace a little faster than I thought. Things are whimpering a bit todya, though. I may run in teh pool Thursday adn cross my fingers that I will be ok fro 8 Saturday. I've been doing ok with trying not to panic. I did 13 the week before ToT and only missed a 14. How has the weather been holding out for the two of you?

DG, loved the shrine.
Thanks, thought people on this board may appreciate it! ;) Just dawned on me- I have begun down the path of living room displays like my parents! :scared07: (They have two bookcases, one former TV stand, and an alcove in their living room FILLED with trophies, medals, plaques and other awards from their favorites from hundreds of races over the years...)

And what other races/runs do you have on the books? As I mentioned Saturday, I'm planning for the Towpath 10k on 10/10/10 (I :D every time I think about those numbers!) here in Ohio. My mom said she'll probably do it with me! :thumbsup2: Might try to convince my little bro' & his wife to do it as well. FYI, I definitely come from a running family; don't think I've mentioned that since you joined the board. Because of that I was *VERY* intimidated to even try running; as a kid I was a fairly stereo-typical nerd and definitely NOT an athlete- the black sheep of the family!

Anyway, Mom used to race in many short to medium distances but hasn't competed for quite a few years. She only did 1 full marathon that I'm aware of. Brother & sis-in-law met at a summer running camp; she did mainly short track events IIRC, he did longer distances but I don't think he's ever gone beyond 5 or maybe 10 miles in competition... Blew his accelies tendon in a college track meet in March 2004 @ Disney WWoS of all places. It was the 5000 Meter run in the "Disney Relays" and the injury happened during the last lap I think; he hopped on one leg to the finish if I remember the story correctly. I'm not sure if he's raced since; surgery and a subsequent infection took him away from running for several months. He definitely still runs again now however and coached track & CC for a few years before he left teaching HS science and started nursing school (he was a bio & education dual major in college).

My dad on the other hand already said he is planning to NOT run Towpath; he told my mom (who I was on the phone with) something to the effect of he doesn't run as well now {after his 5 knee surgeries} as he used to and isn't going to do a race knowing he would then have a slow time on the books, thus tarnishing his reputation. I dunno. Guess if I were in the top 5 masters runners in Ohio in my hayday I may have a complex like that, but as the body breaks down doesn't EVERYBODY start to slow as a rule? :confused24: He did all distances; one 50 mil race, oodles of marathons, and more 5 & 10ks than I can count! Usually when school wasn't in session he was literally at a race almost every weekend. He also was a coach for MANY years and actually although he retired form teaching did coach HS CC this past season. My mom frequently worked for him as an assistant coach over the years or at least as volunteer; this past season she was officially one of the two assistants he had.

OK, probably too much babbling about my family history already. Sorry...

Flash, how is the half training going? :poke:

hey Coach:wave:.....Ah, was slugging it a bit, now I'm back on course, ran 6 miles today, 4 yesterday, 3 tomorrow, then 5 Thursday. Lately it seems I only get my running on my days off (yep, that's 4 days off every week:yahoo:) I'm usually dragging when I work. Weather been real nice, so it was nice to run. Although my legs are bothering me lately, just feel tight when I'm running, causing me to take too many walking breaks, but my times are still holding up (for me). I think what I got to do is do more 3-4 mile runs, not worry too much about the farther runs for now. Although I'll add a mile each week, so I'll hit my 10 miles the week of Dec 7th. Do you think I should keep adding on after that?....What I've read is 10 miles is good for a half, but I could top out at 13 by end of year................Or I also read (here and elsewhere) that I shouldn't push too far, that I have to taper off a bit before the half. I don't know:confused24:, I just gotta get out the door and run, see what happens.

Rozzie

Flash, I think training up to 10 miles would work fine for you. (You do know there is a HM training plan in the back of that book I gave you?) And yes, you do need a taper toward the end. At least a week for a HM in my opinion. Sounds like you got the ball rolling! :thumbsup2:

Day 2 of no motivation to me. I don't know what my problem is. Tired, just real tired. Weather is still yucky so going to do a few miles on the TM then go to bed early. I don't understand it, tapering is the fun part right? :(

My 2 (or 2 1/2) mile run didn't go so well. I've been fighting off a pity party all day long, so I wanted to run outside (the treadmill just seemed too depressing). I went to a nearby state park where there is a nice, fairly level, well-packed gravel trail. My knee started hurting almost right away. I (inadvertently) got off the main trail and ended up going down a hill that almost killed me. There was one point towards the end I thought I would fall--my knee just wouldn't support me. Now my knee hurts just as bad as the day after the 13K--and I only did 2 miles. :(

My body is telling me I need to stop the running for a while. I think trying to keep up even a short distance at this time is not allowing me to heal, and I'm afraid it may cause new or worsening injuries, as other muslces try and compensate. So, for the next two weeks, I'm going to focus on stretching and strengthening, resting, icing, and doing yoga and elliptical instead (maybe some easy walking with my dogs--they can never go very far). I hate to stop running because I enjoy it so much, and because I'm supposed to start training for the 1/2 soon. But I'm not really enjoying it at the moment and I want to be able to at least finish the half.

So this kinda stinks.

Still, I don't want this to get me down. I really am blessed in my life (as I keep reminding myself today when I just want to wallow in self-misery), and I believe I can heal from this and get back to running. I think it's a sign that I need to refocus and reprioritize for right now.

Sorry to be overly emotional. It's just been one of those days.

Day 2 of no motivation to me. I don't know what my problem is. Tired, just real tired. Weather is still yucky so going to do a few miles on the TM then go to bed early. I don't understand it, tapering is the fun part right? :(

I hope you have a long enough taper. Most people don't really enjoy the taper because it is supposed to build excess energy that you are not burning off anymore plus you get jittery about the race itself too. If you are so tired and burned out, I would get extra rest for sure. You will need that rest for the marathon! I order you to go to bed early, lol!!

I think you are right to do some major resting of that knee, MM, it really is the right thing. I am wondering if you need to have it medically checked out too? If not, then at least keep up with the strengthening, icing, stretching and rolling. I do believe anyone might have hurt him/herself with a tender knee going down a steep hill. I have to be "oh so careful" going down hills now not to hyperextend my knee!

A big hug from me to you too! :hug1:

MM, hang in there. Everyone takes a break from running now and then-- it helps you have a even longer running career. I agree with you, if the knee is getting worse, running smaller distances can't be helping. Sending my best recovery thoughts your way! :hug1:

MM- You can take 2 weeks off before losing any muscle. The rule of thumb I know is take 3 days off (completely off) and eval. If it's s no go, takke a nother 3 days and try again. After that, you should see a doc. Give yourself a real, complete break (not even elliptical) and see. :hug1: Way too early to write yourself off yet.

Roz - I've taken off 1.5 weeks, completely off, sue to illness adn been fine. If you're hurting, you may want to scrap teh taper adn go cold tukey. :tinker:

So, I'm reading a book on First Marathons -- a collection of short stories -- to pass the time in between reading Flat Stanley, etc., etc., etc. to the kids. Pretty good so far. I've only :boohoohoo: once so far in 4 or 5 stories. :D

We're having Ida I guess today. Was supposed to go outside and run in 10 min. I'm suddenly quite interested in the Wiggles Christmas dvd the kids are watching because they got all their school work done. I think I'll swap out a 3 miler later in the week planned for the TM to today.

Rozzie, bring one of everything: pair of tights, pair of shorts, long sleeve shirt, short sleeve shirt...the weather here at the coast is always "uncertain" -- this morning, we had Ida (or a nor'easter) sitting on top of us, and accuweather was reporting no wind here. So, I'm certain they have absolutely no idea what the weather will be like in Rehoboth on 11/21...

Well, the good news is that our group has been hired (as long as we pass our drug tests :p) I am supposed to resign this Friday and go to work in temporary offices on Monday. It is still quite overwhelming around my old office and I've been trying to clean it out and get the remainder of my loans closed as well. Lots of support staff at our main office have been laid off and it is very sad!

I was in a flare of my Lupus already and I think it has been made worse by work stress. Today, I resorted to pain meds. My LR is only 8 miles this week though so I should be okay with that. I truly am grateful that we have a place to go to though and I pray that it is a good place like the company I have been with for the last 12.5 years...thanks for checking on me, MM :goodvibes:

Very true. But accuweather is particularly bad here. For instance, right now, I am supposed to be out running. I was getting dressed when a shutter ripped off my neighbors' house and blew about 45' before landing. Think it is the treadmill for me. :boohoohoo:

Here's what weatherunderground reports about our area right now for wind: 24 mph from ENE, with gusts of 45 mph. They also have 2 active advisories and a Public Information Statement link available.

Here's what (in)accuweather is reporting: winds CLM at 0 mph

:oweye::oweye: Yeah 0 mph winds often rip shutters off of buildings...

Well I found the reference to March 1994...it was one of the highest mean low tides...higher than the Halloween '91 storm, which everyone still talks about.

9.1 FT — September 27, 1985 (Hurricane Gloria).
8.9 FT — October 25, 1980.
8.8 FT — January 4, 1992; December 11, 1992 and March 3, 1994.

8.7 FT — SEVERE TIDAL FLOODING BEGINS.
So it is just above severe flooding. Great.

We hit 9 ft. at high tide this morning. :scared07:

BUT, the mayor of the main city said that the water is receeding out of the bay better than expected, so the dreaded early evening tide may not take us out.

This house is fine. Street the old house is on is blocked off, and generally under water at one end. Our old house is mid-block. Should be fine, but this is when I ask, WHY OH WHY, when the previous owner added on in 71, did they do a step down den?? (so the house in the back is only 2 blocks up, vs. the 4 in the front!). And the 71 storm was on 9 years after the BIG ONE in '62 which wiped out most of the barrier islands in Cape May County.

Wind gusts are 60 mph now, which was not in the plan!

Rozzie - Glad to hear the 4 miler was pain free! As for 5 pounds, that doesn't really sound like much to me. I can gain 5 pounds literally overnight if I have Chinese for dinner. But, I like Chinese too much to let said phenomenon upset me. Maybe the place we go to uses MSG or soemthing... I choose to NOT investigate why; their egg rolls are AWESOME!!! In short, I think that weight is liekly to go bye bye right after Rehoboth (did I spell that right?)

This house is fine.

That's good to know! Stay out of the wind; don't want any kids or dogs blowing away into the merry old land of Oz. ;)

It sounds an AWEFUL lot like what she's been doing for years; makes me wonder if they got the idea from her resume and went "We could use that type of work!"... :scratchchin: Good luck to everyone else looking to change / find jobs or already going through it!!!

Hang on. 60 isn't 80. AND, it's late fall, so we'll likely have good breeze (not as good as the last three days, but...) And, it is very unlikely we'll have 100% or even 80% H that day. So, don't feel that a 60 F at finish time is going to feel anything like your weather. It really won't.
:hug1:

P.S. The really cold marathon was last year. And the problem with that is ice skating through water stops. Ask anyone who ran Phila. last year (same weekend as Rehoboth). Apparently it was really bad.

I am liking Gail's prediction, or at least her link. I know I don't mean to be a whiny baby, all this time worried about it being subzero. I just keep hearing from everyone down here how much I will love a freezing marathon. Good for effort and times. I ran this morning and shorts and a long sleeve HeatGear UA shirt. Sweated to death and it was 45. Oh another funny thing, did a nice easy 5 miler, come back and look at the schedule to see I was supposed to add fartlek's. :oweye: Oh well, I don't think much will help at this point. I still got some speed work tomorrow (8 with last 3 at MP) and Track Monday. Track Monday though will be shortened for me, or at least it better or I am packing up and driving off. :driver:

The rumor is down here in the running circle that they will raise "the bar" for Boston with it filling up so incredibly fast. My response to all of that is I will have to wait till I'm 70instead of 50 to BQ LOL.

I did hear from her though, the hills killed her. I told her she was crazy to go to the mountains for a race. She got 4:15 and 10th in age group. I think a super time for a hilly marathon. If she got that I would have gotten 7 hours!

:oweye: It's the Derby Festival Marathon here in Louisville--13:45 min mile pace or less required. Thank goodness I want to run the mini marathon where a more relaxed 15:00 min mile pace is allowed. :silly:

It is a Boston qualifier, so I guess if you're running for that reason, 13:45 seems kinda slow.

Rozzie
11-15-2009, 06:24 AM
Well, I'm glad she already knew going in! There's been rumors now for awhile about BAA changing their qualifying times. This would certainly seem a logical time for them to revisit the issue, don't you think? Hard for us, :headbrickwall: but logical...

Yeah makes a lot of sense when I think about it. Almost seems to are having to qualify now 18 months in advance. As for me, I have let the BQ ship sail on down the river. Regular marathon training about killed me this year, I can't imagine what it would take for me to become faster. :silly:

MM, the Marine Corp also have a tough pace to maintain. You have to "beat the bridge" at one point in the race by a certain time or then they close it off to you.

Wonder what "showers around" mean. :scratchchin: I think we should start a baby weather pool. I say it will be overcast with a high of 58. Oh and while I am laying it all on the line, I'll add my final goals.

I guess we can just take the average between the two? :confused24:

I've had a funky weekend. Mother in town, who is fighting with her boyfriend in a not so healthy way. Went to cookout yesterday at their RV, and had brother on my right telling me how DVC is a waste of money--then on the left of me one of my Doc cousins telling me how I will be forever physically scathed by doing a marathon. (both opinions really don't matter to me but it gets old...) Scott is having a very stressful weekend at work, and my budget somehow got blown this month to heck and back. So does carb loading allow :biggulp:?

All I can say about the weather is that if it is like what we had W-F of this week, I'm walking it. :D

My goals are easy:

4:10 (per Bart Yasso)
4:05 (per me when I signed up for the marathon)
4:00 (per BAA what I am capable of at my age ).

But my number 1 goal is to have fun! This will be my only first marathon, and I plan to take it as it comes. I have no idea what happens after mi 21, as I've never gone farther than that. I'm lucky to have a crew (my family) actually interested in helping me along the way. And, I'm fortunate for the Peacocks who will be with us to share in this fun weekend!

Isn't it wonderful when people have the cheerful ability to say exactly what you don't want to hear, exactly when you don't want to hear it?

Sounds like those sticks-in-the-mud are jealous about how fantastic things are for you. You've worked really hard, and accomplished so much, and they just can't stand it. So, the man's gotta bring ya' down.

You know all the peacocks here know differently. Look at how far you've come and how much you've done! :hug1:

You're fabulous, darling! Absolutely fabulous!

Sorry for not much posting lately but work has been work.:dizzy:

I am going to predict the weather will be low 48 high 64.I'll throw in 11 mph winds just to make it interesting.

I am also going to predict my beautiful wife will run great. I know she has had some setbacks over the past few months but I know she has taken great care of herself and it will pay off.

Nono I predict 3:55 at least.

I am looking forward to my first Half this weekend also. I have been getting a few new untimely aches and pains this past week. I am shooting for sub 2 hours. I have been starting out way too fast on my last two races, leaving me gassed at the end. I can't afford to do that on a Half. We'll see.

Well I cut my 3 miler short tonight. Weird top of foot pain, same pain I got on my LR on Sunday. I have gotten this before and it goes away so I have decided not to totally freak out. ;) Track workout was good last night but nervewracking. They had a peewee football game going on and both sides had 2 foot tall cheerleaders I had to dodge. Plus had to dodge baby carriages, small children on crack running around with footballs etc. Never a dull moment in the armpit!

Tomorrow I am getting a massage, and running 4 miles. Then it's packing madness till' we leave. Still have not packed the first thing. I might be in denial that IT's HERE!

I am cutting it short tonight also, like "no running" short. That pain gremlin has worked his/her/it's way around to my ankle/calf/achilles. I may change my mind and at least walk some. We lost power at work and I had to eat alot, more like a lot of food today. Well, I am at least carbed up for the week.

We had an interesting, if that is the correct discription, track workout last night.
There was this pee wee football game going on the field that our track surrounds.

The 7 yr old cheerleaders were standing on the track(lanes 1-4). The parents were walking back and forth. Kids were everywhere on the track playing football, running in front of ,beside and behind us.

One kid insisted on throwing his foot ball right in front of our starting position. I finally told him" hey, kid, I'll make a deal with you, I won't run you over, if you don't get in my way and you won't get in my way if you stay out of lane one. Is that a deal?"

One of my regular guest flagged me down during one of my 200's. And wanted to talk.
My coach kept saying "run one of them over. that will make them move".

The funniest thing was when I was doing my recovery lap this kid says"Momma, he is running slow" I couldn't help but laugh. But, at first, I did want to tell him " It's a recovery lap, you little *****" ( I did speed up) I then noticed that he had a football jersey on and you won't believe this but, the name on it was "Peacock".HA!

The crowd was cheering on the game and I just pretended they were cheering me on everytime I raced to the finish line. The cheerleaders "Dynamite" cheer was stuck in my head all day and that drove me crazy.(our team is dynamite,BOOM,Dynamite, Our team is dynamite, dynamite, BOOm, our team is... tic,tic tic BOOM! dynamite.....) :cheerleader::cheerleader::cheerleader::cheerleade r::cheerleader::cheerleader::cheerleader::cheerlea der::cheerleader::cheerleader::cheerleader::cheerl eader::cheerleader::cheerleader:

(I think that is the right amount of cheerleaders.)

So interesting to say the least.

Nono, I'll match up my splits when coach sends them , but that sounds great, I have been starting out way to fast and that would benefit both of us.

Thanks for all the well wishes. We will post as soon as we are able.

Funny about the peacock. . . I had some man try and stop me while I was running in a neighborhood once to talk. I kept running and shouted back "I really can't," which was true, since I was in, like, mile 7 of an 8 mile run and wasn't just going to stop then. Do these people think we're just running to attract attention to our gorgeous bodies? :silly:

Yeah, but other than making my leg feel cold, I don't notice a difference (nor, I guess, do I have much faith that ice will help--which is probably the bigger challenge).

Reading more about ITBS is encouraging and disheartening at the same time. Encouraging, because it is treatable, but disheartening because the rehab can be quite long. I am very impatient, and after a week of complete rest, I want to be better!

Did my 4 miles (pain free!), got my massage. A different kind of massage than I ever have. I am used to people beating the crap out of my piriformis (which feels good), but this lady does a couple of runners in the area and really believes in a alignment, etc. Wow, I notice a difference even after the first time. She said my hips are way wacky tight and it's causing all the issues everywhere in my body. Hopefully she can help me have a long running career.

I am typing as I wear my new arm sleeves. Jury is still out. I hate that I never got to run any distance in them, and they feel weird on me. Luckily I think they won't be need Sat. If it's still in the high 40s I am wearing shorts and my singlet.

What a blessing!!! Is this your last run before the marathon?

I still have 2 miles with strides in the morning. Which I will be doing at 0230 to be able to make our plane a hour away. Luckily I am a morning person than can sleep like a baby in a airport. I still had my piriformis pain, but my foot pain that was so concerning seems (knocks on wood!!) to have gone away. I am going with the attitude that now I got "balanced" I won't have a lot of issues Sat. Yesterday I knew my piriformis would act wacky as I intentionally did not loosen it as I had my massage right after running and wanted new LMT to see what it did during a normal run.

Go team go!!! :cheerleader:

I got off my but (finally) and did crunches & lifted weights last night & 30 min. on the ellip this morning. :) Glad I did both, but I feet (arches some but mainly heels) afterwords. Might be time to get new shoes; I have a pair I keep upstairs for indoor use only and they're always felt a little funny, but painful is a different story! Predictions are for decent if nto oughtright nice (upper 40s by 9 AM with some sun) weather tomorrow so I'm hoping to get a run in. :fingerscrossed: Gettin' back on track! :woohoodance:

Since I had read that foam rollers/massage are supposed to work wonders on ITBS and I felt I was going nowhere (if not backwards), I actually looked up a video on how to properly use a foam roller a couple or three days ago. Turns out (like medical massage), I should've been holding the position when I feel the most pain, until the pain passes. Well, I started doing that and today, just walking around (nothing extraneous) my knee actually feels normal (not tight or sore or anything). So I'm taking that as a good sign!

I can't wait to hear how the marathon and half marathon goes tomorrow! :hyper:

Okay, I admit, I got impatient (big surprise) and went scouting the internet for the Peacocks' result times. Awesome times! Great job, everyone!!! :cheerleader: :cheerleader: :cheerleader:

I'm so proud of all of you!:love30:

(Though, I can't find Gail's result, for some reason--I hope it's just the website is a bit slow.)

Peacocking!! Nono qualified for Boston on her first marathon and I placed 3rd in age group. My time was 4:20:21, nono's was a heck a lot faster 4:00:and some kind of seconds. I mean, can you imagine BQing on your first attempt? Incredible!

It was a very good day. Team Peacock sure did fine work out there!

I'm still in disbelief that I didn't hit "the wall." I lost pace at about 20.5 miles...by about 30 sec...hung onto that, and then picked it up again at 24 and got close to back on pace. I knew it was going to be tight as I didn't run the angles very well, and almost lost my mind when I saw the finish clock was already at 4:00:and ticking!

I completely spazzed out on the course  and started slow speed sprinting. Just crossed the finishing mat in 4:00:59 official clock. I wanted that in case my chip misfired at the start or something, 'cause that's the last possible second that would give me a BQ. It did beep on the finish mat so I knew they had me in...nice to hear them announcing me cross the finish line too!

I feel very fortunate today. Thanks to everyone on the Team for getting me to this point! It's great to have such great running friends!!!! :grouphug:

PoohsPal and her DH and parents did for the Half Marathon last year. I cannot volunteer this year because I am running in both races  :silly:
