We were at Epcot last weekend trying to get Fast Passes for Test Track. But the kiosks were screwing up bad. The frustrated attendant told me that starting next year, we would be getting the FP's at the resorts.

That sounds interesting. I can't wait for more details to be released.

Will still need FP kiosks in the parks for non-resort guests.
I don't know how practical a resort kiosk would be. You would still only be allowed one FP. Might save some time, but I'm not sold on the practicality of it. Need more details.

Definitely will be interesting to get more details! There is always a possability of them eliminating FPs for off-property guests and ONLY distributing them at the resorts; I can only imagine the uproar that would cause...

If that turns out to be the case, it was only a matter of time. At Universal Studios, you have to pay for their Universal Express Pass unless you're staying on site; then it's part of your room key.

It could be the long rumored program allowing resort guests to get FPs from their TVs!
Another rumor was that the number of FPs you could get would be based on the level of hotel you were staying in.

What a shame if they do indeed change how FP's are distributed. The current format is fair to every guest in each park every day. Changing it in any of the above mentioned formats ultimately discriminates against some guests. I hope they leave FP just as it is. JMO

If they were to tweek the FP system, I would like it if Disney did something similar to what Universal Studios does which is if you're staying on property, your FP should be incorporated into your resort key and let the off-site guests continue to use the FP kiosks at the park.
Now I'm not sure how this idea would affect the FP lines, but it's just a suggestion. If that isn't something that would have a positive outcome and make things worse, then I agree with leaving things as is.

The Universal program wouldn't work at WDW simply do to the number of rooms. Property Guests at Universal don't come back to a ride at specific times, they simply jump into the FP line anytime they want. Their system sucks for non resort guests because you will have a terrible wait for the popular rides because FP guests get off the ride and straight back on it.
Only change I'd like to see is one centralized location in each park to get FP. Over at The Land, the FP que for Soar'in is a mad house. It is "bad show".
Over at DHS, instead of pins, put FP kiosks under that big ugly hat.
At EPCOT, put them in Wonders of Life building.
MK..... Stitches Great Escape building isn't being used for anything.....
AK.... turn all the Carny games into FP kiosks.

Good point!
I know what you mean about the FP for Soarin'. What a trek that is!

I know they've been experienting with this idea and I like it a lot.
I've really disliked FP because of the backtracking and extra walking required to take full advantage of it.
This would help alleviate that problem.

My only concern with only one centralized FP location at each park is the line. At least with having a FP kiosk at each attraction, the line isn't so bad.
Thoughts?

Another post agreeing that it is a total PITA to get a soarin' FP. Not only is it a madhouse, just getting there is a trek. More often than not when I look at the sign near the Land that says what the return time will be, by the time I get to the FP machine it's 15-30 minutes later. That irriatates me too. I really think they should move the FP for that attraction to a more easily accessible spot.
Centralized FP is a great idea but I do see DVCO5's point--the lines for those machines would probably be enormous.

An FYI if you are not already aware: Although you can't use the FP before the return time, you can use it any time during the day after the return time. This helps you to avoid all that backtracking, you can go back when it works best for you.

Do they ever cut you off and enforce the later end of the window, maybe if things are really busy? I don't quite understand why the print it as an hour window if it's really anytime after xxx...

In the recent past that (enforcing the window) has never happened to me or anyone I know, and I have read no info on any of the WDW sites I frequent where someone has been turned away for being "too late". In fact in the unofficial guide they mention that although it was enforced at one time, currently Disney considers the return time a "recommended" time, but that you can come back any time after your return window opens up.
Can this change again someday? Sure. But it's worked like a charm for me since I found out about it (~ two years ago).

Thanks for sharing this info. I never knew that. So many times I've discarded my FP's when my hour had passed and I thought they were useless. I will definitely keep this in mind next time.

You are very welcome! Just to clarify--they won't accept passes that are from a previous day. They must be used the same day you get them. I don't think anyone misunderstood me, but I thought I should post this just in case. I don't want anyone annoyed at me. :goodvibes:

In what world would this be discrimination? Are resort rooms provided on the basis of age, race, color, religion, sex, or national origin? This, IMHO, is a non argument, "discriminating" as you call it, on the basis of who spends more money is a fair and reasonable business practice, especially when faced with overwhelming crowds as the parks often are.
