Grand Californian Hotel

We are going to book a 5 days at the GCH in July next year but we will not be able to book until late Dec this year. Does anybody have any ideas if I will have any problems getting a reservation? To get a good deal on my flights from the UK I need to book within the next month or so. I am concerned that I will have my flights booked and be unable to get a reservation. I have looked in the DL planning section but it was empty. Does anybody have any ideas? or any other tips on a visit to DL as it will be our first trip

Will DVC even allow members to book the GCH after 12/31/2009 on points? I thought we would only be allowed to book VGC after that date.

sorry I did mean the villas at the Californian Hotel, when I phoned member services they told me that they could only check availability upto April 2010. Don't know if its the same if you have points there??

I think it will greatly depend on how many units they have sold by Dec. Off season at this point is still not blocked out - but no one really knows yet- as far as I've heard - what the summer will bring.
I'd say have a backup plan in place, but remain optimistic!

:D I think, if you avoid 4th of July altogether, your chances are pretty good - but still,,,, We looked at points at the Paradise Pier as a backup for rooms for our Jan trip - and it was quite reasonable. Not the Grand - but you might want to have that as an option - or maybe even a split stay with any missing days on the waitlist.

VGC may be difficult to get at the 7 month window and may surprise a few people. Its a small resort and I wouldn't be surprised especially in the first year or so that a lot of members will try and book it. We have found some weeks already booked.

Lots of good alternatives are available nearby if dates are not available.

We have points at the VGC and I made our end of May 2010 reservations (US Memorial Day weekend) back in June at 11 months out.

As back up options, definitely consider the Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier if you only need 1 room and were going to book a studio. The point difference is not that great between them and a VGC studio.
