At 5pm on Friday, July 3, I need to be at my brother's pool in Charleston, SC, a beer in hand.

It's 12 hours away by car.

Thursday is supposed to be a half day at work, leaving at noon.

I think these are my options:

1) Leave tonight, Wednesday, when I get off work, around 6pm. Drive for 5 or 6 hours, find a hotel in southern VA, or at best at the border of NC. Get up early Thursday and drive 6 hours to Charleston. Pros: I get there a day early, I blow off what will surely be a half day of wasted time in the office, and I avoid what will surely be a horrid day on I-95, Friday, July 3rd. Cons: Paying for a crappy hotel in VA, miss a day chatting on DVCNews.com/forum.

2) Leave Thursday at noon and do 12 straight hours to Charleston, getting there at midnight. Pros: I get there a day early, I'm a good employee, and I avoid what will surely be a horrid day on I-95, Friday, July 3rd. Cons: Miss a half-day chatting on DVCNews.com/forum.

3) Stick to the original plan and leave Friday, July 3, at 4 am and drive straight through. Pros: I get there when I was supposed to get there, I'm a good employee, and my calendar entry on DVCNews.com/forum is accurate. Cons: What will surely be a horrid day on I-95, Friday, July 3rd.

Wow June 3, you plan your trips way in advance!

I'd go with #1. You'll get there early, avoid traffic AND will have had a chance to recoup/rest at the motel you stop at. I know you don't want to spend the $$ on a motel, but I think it'd be worth it to make the trip as stress free as possible. If you decide to go with this option, I've had good luck using this site for deals on motels:

I'd go with #2 and play it up to your boss that you know how important it is to show up and be present when you say you are going to be... :blech:

Another vote for option 2 even though I hate long drives in the car now a days.

Wait a minute..... 12 hrs ? Philly to charleston ? Dude...it's the pedal on the right.

I did Vineland to Disney in exactly 15 hours and that includes drive north the first hour just to get out of Jersey and stopping three times for Millie to pee.

Go with #2 option.

Thank you for all your private PMs telling me you really prefer option 1, you just don't want to state publicly that I should blow off work tomorrow.

And yes, 12 hours to Charleston. I know it's only 680 miles door to door, and I should be able to do this in just under 11 hours, but my car-mates refuse to wear Depends and have their favorite potty stops that they must visit every stinking time we go past them.

..............and have their favorite potty stops that they must visit every stinking time we go past them.

That's gotta be frustrating.

I'm a driver. Put me behind the wheel, tell me where you want to go and when you want to be there and I'll deliver the goods........ PROVIDED you let me decide when it's time to pull over.

Easy rule of thumb in my vehicle: When the "Low Fuel" light has been on for 23 miles, feel free to tell me about your aching bladder.

DH and I LOVE Charleston... I would have gone with the first option, simply because I would want to spend more time there... And it's about 10 or 11 hours from here too.
