View Full Version : Need Rose & Crown advice

Ok. I have my ADR's for the right time at the Rose & Crown on our first night at the resort.

The DVC person who helped me said I have to get to the restaurant's front desk or perhaps my resort concierge in the morning to let them know what's going on.

I absolutely *need* a cafe seat for the Illuminations show. I have something extra special planned for my girlfriend as soon as it's over - could be considered life-changing. In short, I bought the ring.

Any advice on what/how to say to get the Cast Members on my side? I know the lagoon-side seats are probably the most requested - but I have a *perfect* moment planned and I desperately want to pull this off.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds more like you need a seat at the bar.

You might try phoning your resort and seeing if they can call the rose and crown before you get there. If you tell enough people at Disney someone will make it happen. Ask who looks after special requests.
Good luck
Ps When is the big day?

It's Sunday July 26th. We get off the Auto-Train that morning and should be on the property by 11am. Staying at SSR on developer points from last year's purchase of AKV Kidani.

If you make your reservation for about 1-1/2 hours before Illuminations begins, you stand a better chance at getting a patio seat. And when you check in, ask for a patio seat. We've done this three times and only failed to get a patio seat once. But Rose & Crown has a special viewing area for Illuminations, so even if you don't get a patio seat you'll be able to watch Illuminations from Rose & Crown.

Arrive early. Hope your girlfriend uses the restroom. Let them know your plans if you can. They'll never guarantee outside tables. But your situation will be special. I'd bet somebody will get you waterside.

Let me know if this works.

If so, I'll propose to my wife every trip.

If I'm lucky, she may say ..........

In short, I bought the ring.

I hope your girlfriend doesn't read DVCNews....

I hope your girlfriend doesn't read DVCNews....

Fortunately she doesn't.

This will only be her 2nd time at WDW - the first being a 3-day trip back around 1993.

Now that I have the SSR reservations booked and the Auto-Train tickets bought, I started asking her where she'd want to eat (told her we'd do the DDP so that there would be fewer worries). She was almost overwhelmed by the options but gave me some preferences for when I call to make more ADRs (probably tonight).

I told her that, since the UK has a warm spot in her heart, and that there was a special spot that was great for Illuminations, I'd make reservations for our first night on the property at the Rose & Crown.

I got the perfect time, thanks to the DVC guide - 7:50PM in advance of the 9PM show.

All I've told her is that I want to make our 1st night there 'perfect' and that I might have to do some running around to make sure we get lagoon-side seats. She does NOT know why I want it to be so good, except that I've been pushing the "it's our first night on a long vacation" angle.

Now that we're less than 2 months away from departure, she's starting to get excited.

I can't wait to see the look on her face....

If you can't get the table you want, you can always try Vegas.

Good luck!

And you still want to marry her???? ;)

Let's just say that her enthusiasm for this trip is a Good Sign. She also liked the idea when I bought into the DVC. I didn't get anything like "why would you want to do that?". We've been seeing each other for a little over 2 years and the difference between this and previous relationships is mind-boggling...

SHE SAID YES!!!!!!

Everything went off PERFECTLY. The Auto Train got in over an hour early. We were able to check in at SSR early and get to Epcot and the World Showcase just after 11am. When we went to the UK, I was lucky enough that some performers were doing a "King Arthur" number near the Rose & Crown so I told her to watch that while I "checked on our reservations". When I went in, it turned out the manager there had just been talking about me with the staff and here I was presenting myself to make sure I could get the cafe seat. they said they had everything put aside for me and were very happy to make this special.

Well, later that night, despite dodging thunderstorms all day (thank you, Epcot, for making so many INDOOR things), the weather broke and we were able to have a fantastic dinner with a PERFECT view of the show.

Afterwards (having joked about 'fishing for compliments' all day long by asking her if she was having a good time) I asked her 'does it get any better than this?'. She said 'no' and I said "Well, I'd like to give it a try".

I went around the other side of the table, got down on one knee and revealed the ringbox that I'd been hiding (and panicking over) all day in my little camera case. I told her how much she meant to me, how happy she'd made me and asked her if she'd marry me. I got a series of "Oh God.." statements out of her. One when I showed the box, one when I opened it, one when I took the ring out. I eventually said "Can I take those as a 'yes'?"

That's when I got the "Oh yes!" and a huge hug out of the deal.

So I no longer have a girlfriend. I have a financee. Just logging in real quick between jaunts to log in and let the word out.

I'll have a picture later when I have time to resize things properly.

CONGRATS!!! From someone who has proposed in Disney World, I can attest to the nervousness of having a very expensive piece of jewelry in your pocket or camera case and then having to go on rides and just being in a panic all day. Congrats again, can't wait to see the pictures!

Well, I don't know if this will work but here's a link to one picture taken of the two of us yesterday: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/photo.php?pid=30600929&id=1030238898&ref=nf

A couple of side notes.

On the way out Sunday night, my girlfr... er.... Fiancee (gotta get used to that) was looking for some stationary. We were at MouseGear in the middle of Future World and she was asked what we were celebrating (while I was off looking at something else). When she told the person behind the counter and showed the ring, the Cast Member darted off and came back with two "Just Engaged" buttons - you can see us wearing them in the picture in the link above.

We've now had to get used to every Cast Member in creation constantly saying "Congratulations..". Susie tells me I have to wear the button all week :)

She's having fun letting the word out. Though she had quite a bit of shock on her face when I told her how many people knew about this. After all I had help with the conspiracy to make sure I got the right ring size, etc.

Here I am at 8:10Am and I'm not rushing to get to a park (the Studios is on tap for today - got Sci-Fi Dine in reservations later). I think engagement is changing me :) Either that or being a DVC owner since I know I'm coming back. Or the fact that we're not leaving for another week...

Either way. This is a GOOD trip.

Very happy indeed. "Insanely happy" would be a good way to put it. I actually let someone sprinkle me with pixie dust for the first time today (fiancee got some from a CM in Fantasyland and they goaded me into doing it).

I have two daughters - one who just graduated college, the other just finished her 3rd year of high school and is in Japan at the moment. They're the one with the flaming red hair and I'm VERY proud of them.
