Is the sunset safari ever made available to guests staying at DAKV but not in concierge? Who would I call to find out for sure if I can schedule it during an upcoming visit? I thought I\'d heard that it was available at a slightly higher fee for non-concierge guests. If so, I\'d love to book it.

I\'m not an expert on this, but I\'ve never heard of the safari being opened-up to non-concierge guests.

One thing that I HAVE heard of--albeit rarely--is guests who are not booked in a concierge room class being able to pay extra to gain access to the concierge perks. Assuming that is a possibility, it stands to reason that those guests would also have access to the safari.

But I don\'t believe that would be an option for DVC members. Back when AKV was first opened-up there were a lot of documents posted on various websites related to AKV. One of them was the operating agreement for the concierge lounge. According to that doc, DVC is contractually prohibited from making the concierge amenities available to anyone EXCEPT those booked into the concierge room class.

I believe they offer both a Sunrise and a Sunset Safari to concierge guests.

The Sunrise Safari is the one that goes thru DAK before the park opens to guests. IIRC, the Sunset Safari is a more low-key affair that takes place at the Lodge itself, driving around the savanna while they feed the animals and such.

Remeber also, that if you have a group of 8 or more, you can book the Grand Gathering Safari wich includes a sunset safari, and dinner at tusker house with some entertainment. I think the price on this is $59.95 per adults. A great price as far as I am concerned. and far cheaper that the Safari offered to concierge guests.

Both sound like fun, but I\'ll pass and wait for the midnight capture the flag event.

What a coincidence-me too!

And since I posted, I got the information from the DVC member\'s website, and I\'m now booked for that May 5. The CM at member services told me that the sunset safari was only for concierge guests, but not that I doubted her total knowledge, but I did, so I checked the member\'s website, which listed a # to call. Although you book thru DAKV concierge, the tour IS available to non-concierge guests. It\'s less expensive for concierge, but as the CM told me, it\'s very difficult to book DVC concierge unless you own there and have the 11 month window. It sounds so great, includes dinner at Jiko, and now I can\'t wait! Now I have 2 different safari tours booked.
