My first fish story and it is actually TRUE!:yahoo:DVC Hilton Head Island has a new offshore fishing charter and if you like fishing or not you just have to give this a try! I am a golfer...not a fisherman and my fisherman son-in-law wanted to do some ocean fishing so I went along and on my first attempt I caught a 40 inch 30+# Cobia which we had for dinner and man was it GOOD.:) Captain Dennis was FANTASTIC, setting up the live bait (which we caught just offshore on our way out to the reef), and the rest is up to me. All I had to do was follow Captain Dennis's directions and now I have a fish story about catching my first fish that my father-in-law would be proud! We are still on the resort and I am unable to post pictures and when I get back home I will look into posting. The resort says the boat could hold up to 6, however I would recommend 4 or less, I know the cost may be cheaper dividing by 6, however the experience I had for the first time in deep sea fishing with just the two of us was worth the price. Did I mention seeing dolphins, loggerhead turtles and Barracuda's while we were out there? You just gotta try this offshore charter that DVC HHI has just started...I am so glad I did

Great story, even though I prefer to let Mrs Paul do the fishing for me.

Welcome to DVCNews.

Nice job! I'll be there in a few weeks. What are they charging and what's the schedule? Half-day trips? Full-day?

$650 for 6.5 hours which was similar to others we researched ($100/hour). We went out about 25 land miles N-NE of South beach over a reef called ."Betsy Ross" Members get a 10% discount on Tuesdays and Wednesdays which we took advantage of on this past Wednesday...left 7:30AM and spent about 3 hours at the "Betsy Ross" (actually seemed like 30minutes to me). I will be definately doing this again next June

$650 is for the whole boat, right? So you can split this with another family possibly?

Oh,,,, Cobia is so good. Our neighbor was in a tournament here - caught a 68 pounder that we all had for dinner that night.... yum!
That sounds like a blast - maybe you'll be a fisherman from now on???

Yep $650 for the whole boat...I think it is a 35 footer...not real big, however my son-in-law and myself and the captain, it was FANTASTIC! Up to six people can split the cost so you can get together with a couple families if you want, however I would not recommend more than 4 people plus the captain Dennis. The cobia I caught although very good to eat, can break a leg with it's tail while on the deck and the captain told me to run to the bow as soon as we got it aboard. If there were more people on the boat that would have been interresting. I would think 4 people would have enough room to get out of the way depending on what you caught and brought aboard.

As for me the fisherman...nope...golfing is still my game, however Captain Dennis will be seeing me again June 2010 for another deep sea fishing trip out to the Betsy Ross reef. btw: those party/fishing charters with groups do not have boats fast enough to get out to those man made reefs miles offshore, so a private charter like this one Disney HHI has set up is much better if you want a good experience deep sea fishing. My son-in-law took one of those party/fishing boats 2 years ago and he will never do it again...Captain Dennis and the two of us will be our trips from now on.

Hope this helps...we are leaving tomorrow:wave::(
Will be back in October with golf clubs...balance is always good for the soul
