Caught an article about Disney's new movie on the drawing board this morning:
" Winnie the Pooh is returning to the big screen but not in super-cool, revamped 3D. No, no, he is defiantly returning to our screens in 2D courtesy of Disney. Despite having somewhat flopped the last time Winnie made his big screen outing in Pooh’s Heffalump Movie in 2005 (the movie only grossed $18 million), Disney are still giving A.A. Milne’s lovable honey-loving bear another chance (maybe, surprisingly, due to Winnie the Pooh being the second-biggest licensed character franchise in the world).
There are no other details at present apart from the fact that the movie is scheduled for a 2011 release. Since there’s no 3D element to keep the modern day kiddie cinema goers satisfied (it’s a gamble going 2D with such great films being churned-out from the Pixar stable), it remains to be seen what story Disney will take. It may be an existing A.A. Milne story or an entirely new creation especially for the 2011 outing. "
I'm not a big fan of Winnie the Pooh at all but to me the bigger story is Disney trying to get back into putting out quality hand-drawn 2D movies. I'm just a little surprised that they didn't wait to see how well the Princess & the Frog (also in 2D) is going to do before deciding to put out another 2D film.
