Don't be surprised if you find bedbugs in your DVC room.

Wow Rita that is an amazing article! I hope that WDW keeps their stuff clean and very protected. I don't think anyone feels like being bitten by anything while taking a nap or while sleeping in the middle of the night.
I am amazed at that guy that has been raising them for 36yrs. I wonder if he sleeps at night
and extermination costs $400-900:scared07:

There's been numerous reports (tho I don't know if they were ever verified) of bed bug contamination in various WDW rooms. A salesman for DVC in California told us of some of these problems, along with mould probs in the Grand Floridian....again, I can't say these are more than rumors.
I've heard that often people can inadvertently 'carry' them on their suitcases, especially if they've been traveling out of the country.
Yuck! At the end of the article, it indicates that steaming might work..That would be a good alternative to using pesticides. If it works.
Maybe the answer is drinking a lot of beer...:biggulp:Prhaps bedbugs don't like high quantities of alcohol in their blood. Cept on the weekends.

The article actually states:
Increasing international travel has also helped them to hitchhike into the U.S.
Either way, I agree that I hope Disney finds a way to control them.

:scared07: I would be one of the people who would sleep in the bathtub. What a nightmare!
I read somewhere a suggestion that the solid foam mattresses allow fewer hiding places for the bugs.

about the mold problem in GF, one of my coworkers that stayed in GF last year got a room that had mold in it. he told us that he went to the lobby and explained on how in some corners of the rooms there was green and brown coloration and he didnt think it was normal since it's not the theme or colors of the GF and they removed him immediately and gave him the Concierge level room for his inconvenience I thought it was cool but he told me he didn't figure out what it was until he asked one of the bell service CM's why are they moving them so quickly and he said that the stuff in the corners was mold so he was surprised that this type of thing would happen in the MOST expensive WDW resort!

When I was a teen, I traveled to Europe and in the second, more "swanky" hotel, we had bedbugs. Not a darn thing was done about it. Several nights of waking up itchy towards morning with little itty bitty red spots on us. We brought our clothes home and our luggage, and no one in the travel group gave it any more thought. My parents lived in the same house for another 25 years. No bed bug infestation in our home.
Seems like it is not a guarantee that they will transport via your luggage, or perhaps one needs pregnant bugs to have the infestation move to a new place?
Or do we now have stronger bedbugs?
Curious, eh?

Nono - they probably used stronger pesticides then and it killed those suckers (and did who knows what to our lungs as we were growing up).
*sigh* I really dont want to have to worry about bedbugs...and the mold thing - well - in a shower corner, not going to freak out, but if it is inside the rooms in the corners, that means it is probably in the walls. That is quite disturbing to me. It is Florida and the humidity is a nice breeding ground for mold.

While it's not pleasant to be itchy, bedbugs don't cause any illness unless you have an allergy to them (as stated in the article). Of course I prefer to be bug-less, but I am not going to worry about this for one second.
And yes, I am also one of those who uses the whirlpool tub without disinfecting it. :silly:

I wouldn't be that upset to find them in the hotel room (as long as I was moved to another room), but I've heard nightmare stories about the buggers getting taken back home - and the MONTHS and $$$ involved in trying to get rid of them....

Yeah, but that's the thing. I slept with them for 4 nights or so, wasn't counseled to wash our clothes in hot water, etc. after arriving back home, and never had anything happen. Did they used to fumigate our luggage upon re-entry to the U.S.?
Or are the French bedbugs too lazy to hitch a ride to the U.S.? :confused24:
Didn't you know there are no such things as bed bugs? They are all really fleas. Get some Advantix and y'all will be fine.
