I won't reveal my source, but in light of the news on All Ears Net:
http://allears.net/tp/mk/pirateprincess.htm
I e-mailed out a couple of inquiries. I heard back a few days ago from one of them. This is what was said:
Hey there, I wanted to get back to you. Here is what our marketing department has said....
"As a part of our normal course of business, we regularly evaluate our offerings and make appropriate adjustments as needed. As a result, we will not be offering the Pirate & Princess special events in 2009.
Guests are encouraged to advantage of other Pirates & Princess opportunities, many of which are included in regular Theme Park admission such as the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction and Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Tutorial in Magic Kingdom® Park, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, Disney Princesses Meet & Greets at Mickey's Toontown Fair and new Disney Fairies at Toontown. Guests may also enjoy Princess Character dining experiences and Perfectly Princess Party at the new Goofy’s Party Central."
I hope this helps.

So they changed their minds? Stinky, but not too upset since I wasn't going during that time anyway.

Disney already collected ticket money from aracers doing teh P&P in March. Thn tehy cancelled. However, Disney told someone (forgot who ) that there would be a Princess event that night. DOn't know if it's just for teh race or if they are just re-theming the parties. Wouldn't surprise me , though, if they just made a few changes and roleld it out as a band new evnt to keep people coming. JMO.

Personally I'm more interested in Pirates than Princesses.
When is the race? There are several nights in March where the parks close at 7:00 or earlier. But I'm guessing it will just be a Princess event for the racers, and not rolled out as a new party.
I first became aware of this because of the party nights at the Magic Kingdom. Suddenly the Magic Kingdom was closing later than 7:00 on the party nights (All Ears Net had originally posted the party dates).
I'm guessing it's all because of the economy, and hopefully in 2010 the Pirate & Princess Parties will start up again.

Race is March 8. I just can't imagine they'd close MK for teh Princess half. They've done that for DHS adn AK, but MK???? Just don't see it. WHo knows, though.
If you believe some of the self-proclaimed insiders who write on the Internet (not Rita but others I've read), the P&PPs have yet to be a financial success. They have had individual nights reach attendance (profitability) goals, but not the entire range of dates offered during a given timeframe.
Given Disney's investment in parade floats, fireworks displays, etc., they were trying different approaches to try and find something that would work. So far they've been held in the spring, in the fall, several nights per week, one night per week, etc. Disney was (allegedly) hoping some combination would catch-on.
But the economy probably scared them enough to just throw in the towel--at least for the time being. If they couldn't make the parties work when business was good, it can only get worse when crowds are down.
Hard telling what the future may hold. The pirate phenomenon has subsided a bit from its heyday of PTOC 2 & 3. Maybe they'll give it another go when POTC 4 is on the horizon.

On March 8 the Magic Kingdom closes at 8:00pm, and there is no evening EMH that night. March 8 is a Sunday, and typically the Magic Kingdom has evening EMH on Sundays. But the Magic Kingdom has evening EMH the next night, Monday, March 9. So maybe the Princess Event is at the Magic Kingdom on March 8.
The other Sundays in March the Magic Kingdom has evening EMH, and it closes at 8:00 (3/1), 10:00 (3/15), 11:00 (3/22), and 9:00 (3/29).
Tim, your explanation makes sense. That's probably why they keep moving the dates around. Last year they had P&PP in August, and this year they expanded the dates to June.

Well I'll report back what exactly they will offer the night of March 8, as we'll be there. Kinda stinks we paid money for something that now we have no idea what it will be!
