View Full Version : Wait List Rant

I have been waiting for a standard view 1BR at BWV since August. I have those accommodations for 1/25, and 1/27-1/30, but I have a studio BW view for the 26th. Natually I don't want to move twice during the week, so I have been hoping to get the one night I need for over 4 months.
I just couldn't believe that this one night has never become available in all this time. It's not a hot time to be at WDW, and it made me curious about how the waitlist works. So I called today and spoke to a supervisor to ask some questions. Her name was Jessie. I asked, and she told me that if someone else is waitlisted for more days (say, 1/25-1/30), and something becomes available for all their days, that they will get their waitlist prior to me. So in other words, someone who waitlisted the entire week yesterday will, if the entire week opens up, get priority over me, who has been waiting months but who only needs the one day,
I think this stinks and I told her so (nicely of course, I didn't say "stinks", more like "this strikes me as unfair"). She said she'd tell her supervisor my opinion, although I have strong doubts it will make one iota of difference. I am still going to write a letter to DVC about this situation. It may not do a darn thing, but I'll feel better expressing myself. This is very frustrating.:(:boohoohoo:

I had no idea that was how it worked:scared07:
That doesn't seem right at all.....
That's the first I've heard it explained in that manner. I do know the waitlist is a very complicated process since you have to handle varying trip durations, arrival days, etc.
I do see a little logic in doing it that way.
Let's say that there are only two people on a waitlist. One person is waitlisted for the entire period Sun 1/25 to Thurs 1/29. This individual is "first" on the waitlist for all days EXCEPT Monday. For Monday 1/26, Mar's request was first.
So if a cancellation came thru for that entire week, the question becomes who is more entitled to get their request? The other individual has priority in getting Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. But those nights cannot be booked without Monday also being included.
If Monday is given to Mar, then the other 4 nights are left unbooked. If nobody else comes forward looking for just Sunday or Tues-Thurs, those rooms will sit empty. In any timeshare they will try to minimize vacancies since the idea is to have the resort full year-round.
Hope your night comes thru. :goodvibes:

I had a friend who was wait listed for a studio at SSR. She called MS every day, and she finally got all the dates she wanted for a studio. Maybe you should start calling like she did, every day.
She tried to book the studio about 1-1/2 months before occupancy. So you're right in that same date range.

That sounds very strange to me. However, I ended up getting a few days of my current trip via calling even though I was waitlisted.

I would definately be writing them about it. Waitlist was always put to me as a first come first served program.....I guess in this case DVC is first served by filling all the rooms......then it's first come.....
I wrote them a while back about MS telling members that between the time they cancel one room and book the other that it may be gone, that has changed now. Not that I had anything to do with it......but it did change. There was no reason they can't lock a room for a couple minutes to allow the CM to make the change. I got a call about it a couple days after writing them, we talked for a good hour or so about that and other issues. Hopefully it won't be long before we are able to do our own booking online, you know, like folks in the 21st Century do.

Interesting you posted this Mike. The exact thing you mentioned happened to me very recently--2 weeks ago. The CM insisted she had to cancel the room I had originally reserved before booking the room I wanted to change to. I spoke to a supervisor about this less than a week ago and she said that is still the policy. So if it changed as you said it did, it changed back. That or it depends who you speak to, which seems to often be the case. Pisses me off that this is so inconsistent.

OMG, that would really get my Irish temper! Whenever I've changed the resoret I'm booked at, MS has always(at least the way I remember it) booked the new room before they cancelled the old one. If I lost both rooms like you describe, I think I'd flip!

Hmm, I asked about it when we switched to the GV at OKW for our May trip and they said they no longer had that policy. I figured it was fixed. Your right, alot of inconsistencies at MS.

Thanks Diz NeE!! It's funny, when I resigned myself to the fact that I probably wasn't getting it and decided to just make the best of it, that's when it came through. Isn't that always the way? A week from tomorrow I am off to The World, the excitement was already kicking in, now it's certainly been revved up whole bunch. I am on :cloud9:

its funny that you say that b/c there are oher circumstances in which that happens. lik when you are looking for an item and you just can't find it but when you give up trying to look for it, you just happen to find it and it was always infront of you.
sweettttttttttt!!!!!! when my g/f and I plan our vacations we can't really take our minds off of it. even though sometimes I forget due to work and A LOT of school my g/f tells me how many days are left. lol! it's hilarious. like if it's in our bloodstream. lol! but even though I think about the costs disney has the effect to make you not think about those things when your there. but when you get home and see your bill!!! HOLY DANG!!! lol! we stopped from using our room keys as charge cards due to that reason. my g/f would buy something just to have it delivered to the room!

If they ask "What are you celebrating" when you check in, tell them getting a 1br for your entire stay. Maybe they'll have a button you can wear!:rotfl2:
