I just had a call from chip126 who is currently at the BWV's asking about checking out. She wanted to know if you are supposed to go to the front desk and "officially" check out of your room. I have never done that as I figure that when Bell services gets my luggage I am checked out.

But she got me to thinking that maybe that is not the correct procedure? When I leave my room at say 8 am, after bell services gets the luggage to store, my room is ready for housekeeping to get it ready for the next guest. Does housekeeping wait until 11 am check out time to get the villas ready? :confused24: Or is the Villa "mine" till 11 am?

What do you guys do?

Did she say Yes to express check out ? Did she give a CC to secure her room charges ? If so, they will simply slide her room folio under the door around 6:00 am. If she gets it, all she has to do is leave.

I think "Express Checkout" is just that process of leaving a credit card on file, agreeing to pay all charges (signature at check-in), etc.

We have never gone to the front desk to check out. After a couple of trips we learned that housekeeping will start knocking on doors pretty early to find rooms that are ready to be cleaned. So we started leaving our Do Not Disturb sign on the door until we are gone. When that sign is gone, I figure they'll knock and find out we've left. If we happen to pass someone working near our room as we're running stuff out to the car or making our final departure, we'll mention that we are gone and give the room number.

I call housekeeping to let them know we're leaving unless there's a magickeeper in the hall near our room.

Last few trips we leave our room at 4:00 am. Because I don't want my folio put in my room after I'm gone, I stop at the front desk the night before to get my folio & tell them NOT to slide one under the door. This trip, the gal started to pull the folio and said, "oh, they didn't check off "express check out" for you". Odd, because they had our CC on file. No big deal, we settled up then & there, but I think Express Check out is more than just having a CC on file.

We also call Mousekeeping at 4:00am to let them know they can service the room whenever.

If you don't put charging privileges to your room key, there's no bill. So, in that case, there's no need for express check out. :)

Wouldn't there still be possible phone charges adn such?

I would think so. I know when I went in 2002, I called a local number in Orlando (or it may have been WDW) and was charged $0.75.

On my most recent trip I used the express check out. I didn't have to do anything--but I did freak out later in the day after leaving the first hotel thinking, "Was I supposed to call the front desk or something?" and being afraid I would be penalized an extra day's charge. I was put at ease by the next resort's staff.

We've always done express check out. Then again we use our keycard for charging too. I don't know why, but I like doing it that way. I like the print out of exactly every penny I've spent while there. And yep sometimes it's scary, LOL!
