View Full Version : Help! I think I'm going through WDW withdrawal.

Well, ever since getting back from WDW I have been grumpy and irritable--I take that back. The first four or five days I was still on a high. But now, I'm so cranky--I think I'm having withdrawal symptoms from WDW!

My next trip to WDW won't be for a whole year, though I'm going to HHI in December and may go to DLR in the Spring or Summer (I'm still considering it).

Anyone have any suggestions on how to beat post-Disney World blues? I'd like to have something more constructive than blowing all my money on Disney pins off ebay ;). I think if I could take another week off work just to sleep, that might help too, since part of my moodiness is likely sleep deprivation :hyper:. But since I can't, I'm asking for "y'all's" assistance.

Thanks for the help--being able to talk about this obsession of mine for Disney Parks helps tons :love30:

I hear you, MM! I have it so bad. Usually, planning my next trip helps enormously. DH's family wants to do Christmas there in '09, but before the actual rush begins (2nd week of Dec.). I am hoping to get a THV. Sooo...I can't start planning until January at the earliest. This weekend is a 4-day weekend for us. We usually go to WDW for it. But, we aren't. Sniff, sniff. I am stuck at home doing laundry and filing.

Man, to usually go to WDW this time of year and not be able to, that would be hard. Technically, I could make reservations for Oct 2009 next month, but since my sister will be a teacher next year, her schedule won't come out until March. I love to plan, and it kills me that I can't! I'm afraid to make ressies during what I think will probably be her fall break, if something changes and I end up using less points that I will have to use or lose (since I'll probably have to borrow about 15 or so from the next use year) before our next trip (in April 2010).

DW and I feel your pain MM!
We booked the bounce back while we were there for next October. Still sad to leave. :boohoohoo:
We came home to our dogs and cats. That cheered us up, till we had to clean the litter boxes.
We are going to DL in January, so that should make us happy, right? Still a little down.
We are now planning on going down in May with our friends and Godson. I confess, I am very excited to plan this trip! :yahoo:

To get through the days between trips:
I listen to Disney Park music and soundtracks on my commute.
I get the All Ears newsletter, The Disney Insider, and Magical Mountain News, E-mails.
I listen to WDW Today and Netcot Podcasts, and watch YouTube videos.
I come here to discuss Disney with my online buddies!

We'll get through this MM!

You get to go to DL in May? Yea! :cheerleader: I really love DLR, even though it isn't quite the same as WDW.

I have two conferences I'm thinking of attending in California, one in May (the week before Memorial Day) and one in August (the week before my birthday) and I'm trying to decide if it is worth it point-wise to stay at DL (since VGC won't be open yet). In my four years living in SoCal and being an AP holder, I never got to stay at a DLR hotel, which I really want to do. I thought about staying at DLR to be there for my B-day, but I've already celebrated at DLR before, but never at WDW, so I'm torn, especially since the flight is shorter to WDW, and it is cheaper to be there point-wise.

I'm really trying hard not to make a ressie for a few days in December using the Disney Visa special. However, I already have a HHI ressie during that time (which I AM looking forward to) and I really need to save my money so I can ADD ON MORE POINTS! (I keep having to remind myself this to delay gratification for something I really want more than whatever pops up at the moment.)

Speaking of pets, I should put the bandanas I bought my dogs back on them.

When I really get lonely for WDW, I put in one of the episodes from an ABC sitcom where the show went to WDW (Full House, Boy Meets World, Roseanne, Sabrina the Teenage Witch). That helps some.

We are doing DL in January, and WDW in May and October. I also love DL. I feel Walt's presence, and it adds something for me.

I am the same with the points wish! I came home from our trip, and made the mistake of looking at our measly stock portfolio, to see if I should raid it for a add on, and it was 1/2 of what it was last time I looked.:scared07:
So no to that. I'd raid our equaly measly savings, but that was thrown at the business start up.
So every time I want to buy something like a new TV for the kitchen, or a blue-ray player for the living room, I think of it in how many points I can buy.

Well, I found a way to feed my obsession today--literally. :eating:

Yesterday my Mickey Waffler I ordered off eBay arrived. So I made a Mickey waffle for breakfast, made tea in my Disneyland mug using my new Mickey shaped tea infuser (which, BTW, has holes just a little too big for loose tea), and enjoyed some Mickey goodness. I even put the "My human went to WDW and I all got was this bandana" bandanas on my dogs. I think later I will make them dog treats using my Mickey cookie cutter. I was going to wear my new DVC sweatshirt today to my cousin's soccer game, but am not going now.

I think I need a Mickey red, white, and black kitchen. But I'll have to wait until I'm in a house that has a kitchen larger than a closet.

It's so fun trying to find ways to bring the magic home!

I know how you feel MM. Normally we go to WDW every year. :cheerleader:

But not this year  It is hard, I have to agree that I find that it helps to listen to the podcasts out there and to plan the next trip SEPT '09. It is a long way off but it helps especially in the cold Chicago winters.

We just got back 2 weeks ago. I know how you feel.
So..... I booked a 3 night Disney Wonder cruise today!! Our next vacation is planned for next August, A DCL to Tortola and then a stay at BWV but I CANNOT wait that long!!
So this short trip will be to see family in Florida and a Momcation for me, my sis and my friend. All moms that need a break from kids and work.

My favorite is Sorcerer radio, I listen to it constantly! It's the only thing that has kept my sanity in check since I've been back:silly:

These are my faves:

MouseWorld Radio (http://www.live365.com/stations/torg0)
Park Hopper Radio (http://www.live365.com/stations/parkhopperradio)(all attractions)
D-Magic Radio (http://www.live365.com/stations/crazyjt2)

Sorcerer Radio is also in my playlist, but usually falls after the above.

You can call here at bedtime -- every night putting my 4 yr. old to bed, we "talk about the rides." That's what I used to do to my older sis when I was a kid, and I loved reliving our summer vacations at the shore. I started using that phrase with my D and now, that's every night. Right now, she's informed me that she's "done with 'pooky stuff for awhile. No more Tower of Terror. No Haunted Mansion." She says Haunted Mansion is worse. :) PoC is still OK though.

So if it you need to have a Disney rides discussion anytime at 9 pm EST, let me know! :thumbsup2:

Hey, Tim , just an fyi....D-Magic no longer broadcasts:( That was my fav w/Sorcerer 2nd...What I loved about D-Magic was every night, they would do the pre-Illuminations music, the show and the post music at the time it would actually be going on at Epcot...Always helped with the Epcot withdrawal:boohoohoo:

What a wonderful thing to do! That's what I love about these boards--sharing WDW memories!:grouphug:

I remember I took a stress reduction class in college. Whenever we practiced imagery, mine wasn't of walking along some deserted beach, but of walking through the turnstiles at MK! (Although, I did a lot of envisioning myself in a hammock on the beach in front of the Poly ;)).

After seeing a friend's pics from when she and her husband went to WDW last year and talking about trips with her, I can't help but think how much fun it would be to go to WDW just as a couple (maybe someday I can :fingerscrossed:). Now after reading about your nightly WDW stories, I think of what a wonderful tradition to pass on to my kids (if, again, someday I have any :silly:)

I guess I'll have to start telling my dogs WDW stories--if they'll stay awake!

Sorry, I feel so sentimental now, after reading through the Viking's new thread of WDW memories!

Anytime. Just a warning though. I think this night time chatting is backfiring on me. I got stuck on a ride in Disneyland for about an hour and a half of dreaming time after my daughter woke me up to go to the bathroom just before daybreak. 1.5 hrs of riding a ride that doesn't exist, and shouldn't exist because it was stupid (apparently my brain couldn't figure out a way to sew up the whole thing because the concept was so bad so it just kept going and going....:scared07:) So anyone from Imagineering, if you have a concept for a scavenger hunt/trivia-driven/dark ride, DON'T DO IT!

when were you there? (and why isn't it in your siggy!) I was there for my birthday in 2005, what a beautiful park. And wasnt their version of the haunted mansion the BEST?

It's not in my signature because my signature is getting out of control! :D (Like, I didn't include all my visits to DLR before, after, and during my AP days there).

I went to DLP in 2002 (which was the 10th anniversary), but just for a day. My college roommate and I were doing the backpacking Europe thing, and while we were in Paris, I told her we HAD to spend a day at DLP, no questions asked.

To be honest, I don't remember Haunted Mansion. I'm pretty sure we rode it (it was near BTMR, right? which means we rode it early in the day), but I don't remember specifics, just that a lot of the rides were a lot darker (meaning less lighting), including HM, than in the American counterparts. We rode Space Mtn twice, even though my roommate was terrified!:scared07: She hates roller coasters that go upside down. I also loved that the castle had the dragon in it. We hung around until he "woke up."

i hear ya. my sweet DH - if you met him you would never in a million years think he would go for this - says that our investment in DVC is worth every penny cause i get to play with it 24/7.

In my business, we have a saying, - it's the post gig blues. I have found that is kind of what it's like after a disney trip . There is that big bounce of happiness, and then back to reality. I feel fortunate that i can start working on the next trip pretty soon after... 11 months out being just a few weeks after we get back from our trip.

So, just start chippin' away at your next visit, no matter how far in the future, you'll feel better.

Ahh, this video gives me not only a WDW fix, but also a (pre-Disney owned, original puppeteers) Muppets fix:

YouTube - Muppets at Disney World: Part 01 (1990)

This is for part one. You can also find the intro (with Eisner at the GF with Fozzie and his mom) to this video on you tube.

I love Waldorf and Statler's "Who's your lady friend" song ("Who was that lady I saw you with at Epcot?" "That was no lady, that was my nurse!"). Also Kermit's: "I'd like to go on record as being opposed to the use of violence for purposes of conflict resolution!"

I've really been getting my Disney fix lately--I've been helping a friend plan her WDW vacation! It's her first trip since she was just a kid. She's getting totally excited about it (although now she's decided not to go until January to avoid heat and crowds). It is so much fun to share all the things I've learned over the years! And, I'm priming her for membership in the DVC (I think the Hawaii property would be great for her)!

I have been trying to get my brother to join also but he's been to the presentations and he's not interested. he used to always stay on-property andd 12yrs later he wont stay in a value unless its $60 or less which is usually impossible! but I am waiting until Dec when we go together for a week and they come to our room in AKV and see the savanna view! I'm hoping that will change their decisions!

After my first trip to WDW...the trip on which we stayed in a lagoon front Poly room and got engaged at the luau...we went as a family every year, although most often only for a few days pre or post a cruise or island vacation. I got used to a year between visits.

Now that I own DVC, I can take visits more often and usually do. However, my last trip was Sept and I don't think I'll get back until at least next Sept. This is harder on me now than it was then. :(.

I'm thinking that I might visit my DD on Mother's Day again and that we might go to DL again...sort of make it a ma-daughter thing. That will 'hold' me until fall.
