I just spent a few hours with DD and DD's GC at her high school- Her SAT's are on the mark for acceptance but they only have a 21% acceptance rate!

This is DD's #1 choice and dream college. But its soooooo far away from CT! Thinking that this will seriously be the final button that pushes us to move to Florida.

The school is incredibly beautiful (Flagler College (http://www.flagler.edu/)) and am hoping for any input...

Thanks guys! :goodvibes:

Laura,
What is she planning on studying? The pictures on the website are beautiful.

Wish I could help, but no such luck.

Laura,

quick ?? Are you/she perpared for the out of state fees for the 1st yr? It is usually a bit more. Most young people want to try to be away from parents. I was lucky, I was only 2 hrs away. I know that doesn't help much. Good luck! She should have @ least 1 backup just in case! you have a VM from me. I got cut off......Make sure that she asks ??? about the academic expectations. Cause when I transfered, I had 2 yrs and that was it. I had to have a full course load 12 credits or 4 classes a semester. after my 1st semester I took like 15 cedits. So its something to ask and be aware of. It was shock to me that they wanted me out. I thought I'd have a little more time there.

No alcohol and inter-dorm visitation (what the heck does that actually mean?). Well the first one would leave me cold.

I went to college in CT 'cause the drinking age was 18. When I applied.

As far as the cost, my experience with colleges up your way is that the cost of Flagler isn't too expensive compared to Connecticut area colleges (that's the main reason I'm glad we moved from up that way to Texas-it would have bankrupted us to send our kids to college). I noticed that Flagler doesn't have a wide variety of majors. If you want to discourage Flagler, from my experience so many kids change majors while they're at college-some several times. For example, DS #2 wanted to consider a music conservatory to major in music. However, as we pointed out, if he wanted to change his major, he'd really have to transfer colleges. So we encouraged him to go to a college with a wider variety of majors. Is this a possible issue at Flagler-other possible interests aren't offered as majors? It's just a possibility. BTW, DS #2 never did even consider changing majors-he's now getting his master's degree in the same major he wanted as a HS Junior. DS #1, however, changed his major 2 times, and transferred colleges once. Transferring colleges is no fun, especially when you learn that a course you struggled through is not necessary at your new college.
