I am surprised at the small size of the first Disneyland resort in terms of actual number of rooms.

I haven\'t been since I was a child but I do understand space problems. Is there perhaps other reasons for adding on so few rooms to begin with?

Here is what I have heard from the \"inside\". DVC has wanted a location at Disneyland for about 4 years now. Disneyland management has always pushed back saying, \"we have 95% occupancy rates on our existing hotel rooms, we need more of them, not DVC\". It was not until Matt Ouimet came from Orlando, that the tide changed. DVC was ready to make an announcement in 2005, however, when Matt left to go to Starwood, everything was put on hold. Ed Grier took over, and stopped all inititaves until he got a feel for the business in CA. In addition to this Jay Rasulo has continued to merge the management structure of the two resorts. Now many Disneyland Resort decisions are made in Orlando. (An example of this is the fact that all new Disneyland projects filed with Anaheim are list as Walt Disney World Co projects). Even under Grier, Resort management continued to push back on DVC, however, it was difficult to argue the financial returns DVC was prividing to Parks and Resorts. Finally, in late 2006 a compromise was reached. DVC was given 50 units and Resort hotel management was given the 200 additional hotel rooms. Now, everyone is waiting to see how well these 50 units will sell in California. IF they sell out quickly, expect a quick decision to add more. As to avaliable space, Disney has the option to add onto the exisiting parking structure (Already the largest in the western Hemisphere). If this happens, it will free up approximately 60 acres for additional hotel/timeshare zoned property. According to the Anaheim resort general plan disney can add up to 2,600 more hotel or timeshare units. without additional zoning changes (this is excluding anything they add to Gardenwalk)

How fast they sell will depend to a great extent on how they price them. (And the point structure for the rooms...) Price them \"near\" AKV and SSR and the folks at DVD will be working in shifts just to process the closing paperwork... Price them significantly higher and it will go slower, I would think. So, in the end, what they get will largely depend on what they set out to get...

I don\'t think they will be priced much higher than AKV. No reason to, selling the points to prospective members puts those members in the parks for the next 50 years, and that\'s what I think is most important. JMO

I was very surprised too Laura- When I read the article here on DVCnews I thought to myself- \"Well looks like I wont be staying there unless I buy in\" :(

Having never been to DL I was pretty excited about having the opportunity \"maybe\" of making a trip out eventually. With only 50 Villas I just dont know????

I\'ll be pretty surprised if they don\'t sell out fairly quickly, and I\'m confident that this is only the tip of the DVC iceberg at DL. Alas, there won\'t be any more room to add GCV units (unless they did room coversions I suppose..) and I predict the small size of GCV is going to lead to a lot of disappointment and frustration for DVC owners.

I agree 100% the small number of room 50 is going to make it hard to come by rooms there But the future only can tell I bet they add more on in that confined tight area to build
