Allearsnet.com (http://www.allearsnet.com) is reporting that the High Rock Springs pool slide at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort will be closed for refurbishment from September 8 to 26, 2008. The pool itself and all other amenities will remain open during the refurbishment.

This slide does not look like much but it is fast and fun. I hope that doesn't change.

My family loves this slide. It is the first slide my (then)4 year old agreed to go down. Now she loves all water sides. I love the fact that on the last turn before the bottom, you are going so fast that you actually bank up a few feet before crashing down again. (sometimes it hurts but it's still a blast).

Is anyone surprised at the speed this "refurbishment" has been needed?
I will quickly admit that I have not been around to see how often other need to be refurbished, but this slide isnt' that old.

Not surprised. Is it not upwards of 5+ years? And with the amount of people it sees over the course of a year I think this is to be expected.

Here is the official word Disney posted:
"Sept. 8-26, 2008: High Rock Spring Pool slide re-gel coating. For Guest enjoyment, High Rock Spring Pool will continue to operate during this timeframe (only the pool slide will be closed). The other pools at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa will also be open for enjoyment."
I'm not a pool repair-person, so I'm not sure how often the re-coating has to be done. I do know that at our personal pool at home, it didn't take too long before the slide started cracking because of the weather, although I'm sure the slides for residential pools and those for Disney resorts are made of different materials. OKW pool slide is set to undergo the same refurb in January.

Do you have a firm date on this? We are staying there in January with 5 kids in our party (9 to 2) We may move our reservations to another resort if this is the case.

I found a website Disney has made with info for travel agents (you have to log in to get all the info, but for some reason, I was able to pull up a pdf file on refurbs by searching google. The file seems to be updated at least twice a month, if not more frequently). This has been the most detailed list I've found anywhere. Here is what is listed for OKW:
"Jan. 5-23, 2009: Old Key West Village Pool slide re-gel coating. For Guests’ enjoyment, the Old Key West Village Pool will continue to operate during this timeframe (only the pool slide will be closed). The other pools at Disney’s Old Key West Resort will also be open for Guest enjoyment."
It is the only refurb currently listed under OKW. I can't verify this won't change (for example, this website lists the refurb on the CR new quick service location as lasting longer than posted on non-Disney sites). However, I have seen the same dates for the slide refurb listed on other Disney discussion boards/websites.

i used the slide back in early june. it definitely needs the refurb. i went down one time, and my back was getting scratched at each of the sectional junctures of the slide. nothing serious, but it was very uncomfortable.
